Hello Fellow friends, Let's get into this review. I wanted to eat at a black owned restaurant and went to my trusted Yelp advisory. Allegory was one of the recommendations options. Here we go, parking lot was clean and the front door had easy access. Greeter was very friendly and brought us a menu. We started with friend green tomatoes, wings, corn bread, pineapple juice and water. The friend green tomatoes were fresh and full of flavor. Portion size was very nice and I definitely recommend as a starter. The sauce for the wings I could take home and try on several foods. Don't get me started on the hot, fresh cornbread in its own skillet on the table. Dinner was shared and the choice was catfish, red beans and rice. A big party of friends came in and the crowd got louder so we left. They play music with a live deejay and the music selection is worth moving to the beat. Food options are nice and plentiful. Came in hungry and ready for a vibe... left with a story. We pulled up Friday night and the front doors were locked, so there was already a delayed, awkward entry situation before we even got inside. Once we did, we found out our reserved party room had been double booked. Their solution was to seat the five of us in two round booths pushed together... in an already tight layout where you can barely walk between tables. We still waited about 30 minutes just to be seated there. The place is small but packed with oversized round tables and a mix of decor that doesn't quite land suede booths, mirror tile wall, tropical wallpaper and two dirty fish tanks w/ some goldfishes. Service felt stretched thin. It looked like one waitress, two bartenders, and maybe a cook or two running the whole place. Bless our waitress, she was trying, but we were five people sharing two water glasses at first. My drink (whiskey, honey, lemon) came out as a DIY kit, no ice, no spoon, no straw. I had to go to the bar to fix it myself. When I asked for lemon juice, I got a heavy pour of bottled lemon concentrate. When I asked for ice and a stir, the bartender stirred so aggressively with a straw that ice literally flew across the bar. Food came out at completely different times. My friends said everything tasted basic with random "creative" touches like candied yams with vanilla cream and blueberries in Brussels sprouts. The one bright spot: the sax player and DJ. I went to Allegory Kitchen & Bar last night with friends. The service was good. We were greeted and served well throughout the night. We ordered wings and catfish. The wings were good, but the catfish was better. The ambiance is nice it has a tropical Miami vibe. The music was amazing. I had so much fun reminiscing listening to songs I grew up listening to. I spoke to a server that told me to come back for karaoke on Thursday. I'm sure it's fun and definitely something I will try. read more

Had such a great time last night catching up with my friend! It was much needed! Of course we chose a New Black Owned spot & I'm so glad that we did! From the ambiance, hospitality, food, drinks and welcoming environment we were so pleased with everything! It exceeded all expectations. We were there for 3 hours! (There was A LOT to discuss) We decided to grab a couple of drinks. My friend loves her an Old Fashion & I had a Pineapple Bourbon drink which was & let me tell y'all about those Vegan Collard Green Spring Rolls! O M G with the sticky sweet & sour sauce to go with it. It had the right amount of Sweet & Heat. The Collard Greens Spring rolls were seasoned & fried to perfection! & My friend ate those Lemon pepper Hot honey wings up! She said they were sooo good. It started off very shaky. They did not have any tea or diet soda. The fountain Coke was super flat and had to request canned Coke (which thankfully they had). They did not even have any chicken. A friend and I decided to have a late lunch at Allegory Kitchen and Bar on Saturday. We got there when they opened at 2p. Looking over the menu, there were so many appetizing dishes. The bartender,Nikki, was so friendly. She gave us the happy hour menu to look over as well. We decided to share some of the small plates. First out were the collard greens spring rolls. Now my friend, being from up North (NH) is not a fan of collard greens, but agreed to order them. She is now a huge fan! They were simply amazing. The collard inside were just the right smokiness from the bacon and oh so tender. My mouth is watering just thinking about them! Shortly after, we were served the pork belly brussel sprouts. OMG. First, the portion is huge. Enough for 6 people if eating them as a side dish. They had bits of fried and crispy pork belly, chopped pecans, blueberries,and a delish balsamic glaze. Not too much glaze; just enough to enhance the flavors and bring it all together. While were were munching on those two items, the chef brings us the wings and the pork bites. The wings are not battered, which I was happy about. And there were amazingly crispy. So many times unaltered wings still have soggy skin. Not these! And the house sauce was divine. A little sweet, a little spicy, and just the right sticky. You can have traditional buffalo and other flavors, but on your first try, go with the house sauce. You won't be disappointed! For the pork bites, picture thick butterfly pork chops cut into bite-sized pieces, battered with a lightly seasoned batter that has just a touch of heat. The sauce they serve with the pork bites is like a Mississippi Comeback sauce. Oh my! Soooo good. And the servings for "small plates" are not so small. We ended up taking home a good portion of brussel sprouts, a good amount of pork bites, and 4 wings. We ate all of the collard greens spring rolls! The bar is stocked well. We started off with a Moscow Mule served with Gosling ginger beer in the copper mugs. Had a great conversation over the bourbon and whiskey selection. They have some really good Kentucky bourbon, including Four Roses, Elijah Craig, Buffalo Trace, just to name a few. They also have a good selection of wines, tequila, brandy, and Kracken for the serious drinkers! I cannot say enough good things about Allegory Kitchen. We've already made plans to go back with several friends and my husband and I want to go have dinner one night when they have the saxophone player as well as when they have the singer/performer, and comedy night. For those who enjoy Karioke, that's on Thursday night. I am looking forward to trying the shrimp and grits or maybe the catfish over red beans and rice! Will let you know how those are in my next review. In the meantime, if your reading this, just get in the car and go! The service in this place sucks but the food was good. My wife and I decided to go there for happy hour. We came in and noticed there were 2 young ladies behind the bar. There was only 2 couples at the tables and 2 people at the bar. We came in and sat at the table for 10 minutes before we received a menu. The servers/bartender walked past our table and checked on the other guest and not even gave us a glance. The young lady server with the glasses acted very disinterested. She utterly walked off as my wife was in mid sentence. We had to ask for the Happy Hour menu. The bartender was really off. I changed my drink order earlier and when I came back to the bar to order water, she didn't realize I already been up there prior. I guess that's why we wasn't noticed sitting earlier. Simple drink orders even took 10 minutes get. Then if you needed napkins that was another few minutes. Also, on this day they were having AC issues so they brought out a portable AC unit, which was pointing toward the bar and not at the dining area. Top the night off, our bill didn't reflect the happy hour specials, even though we closed out 40 minutes prior to happy hour's end. We make it a point to support black owned businesses but this one I will not be returning. Good Luck! read more

I would like to start out and say this is an amazing place to come out and have a good time, I came out to celebrate my birthday, with my Wife , the Restaurant Staff was very welcoming on arrival, our Waitress for the evening was Nadia, she was amazing, the food was delicious, I had the Catfish & Grits as a meal, appetizer was the fried green tomatoes, just like back in the Day!. My Wife had the Catfish & red beans & rice , we also had the skillet Cornbread as Well, man I couldn't say anything bad about this Establishment, when arriving , it was like wow it's a small place, I really was on the fence about going inside, but they had some amazing reviews posted online, so we went inside, bam they didn't disappoint, Kudos to the Chef , the Staff & the Owner, for having a Black Own Establishment were we can come out and have a terrific experience!. Job well done. The Wife & I , will definitely be coming back again , and also going to bring some people along with Us. Went for a party with friends on a Saturday evening and was pleasantly surprised and impressed! Staff were friendly. Vibes were amazing and the DJ they had playing added to the atmosphere. So, I've been here a few times. 1st time for the drinks. Omg, the bartenders were amazing, very hospitable to the point where I felt to allow them to surprise me with a drink. They were very delicious. Not the watered down foolishness that is happening today. Moving on, I finally tried a meal. I had the catfish with grits. Well, I dont even eat grits.....and I ate their grits with no problems. I could simply dip my catfish into the sauce on the grits because tartar sauce wasn't needed. I am going to enjoy my time crawling through their menu each time I visit. I highly recommend you come out and give them try.
