I am writing a review for my most recent experience with Allied--my move from Boston to Los Angeles. I should have done more thorough research about the company that Allied Moving Services was contracting out to. It was terrible--and Allied would take no responsibility for the bad service that company provided. I had a wonderful cross-country move the first time I used Allied, so I trusted that they would vet the Boston company handling the first part of my move with the same care. Shout out to Beverly Hills Transfer and Storage, who did a great job with my original move from LA to Boston in 2014, and who delivered excellent service on the end of this move, even though they had to make up for the poor service of the Boston company. Allied contracted out to ABC Relocation Service, and the salesperson who came to my apartment was personable and reassuring, and each time I reached out to him he answered my emails. HOWEVER, in the end, neither Allied nor ABC Relocation took responsibility for the terrible service I received. The communication from the start of move was incredibly flawed--no one could nail down a time; the movers were 4 1/2 hours late on pick up and took a smoke break on their arrival despite being so late; they made mistakes packing my items: three items that they packed arrived in LA broken and many of the boxes were crushed; and I also received two boxes of SOMEBODY ELSE's belongings. Thankfully, I did not pay extra to have ABC pack my belongings, as everything I packed, even the fragile things made it without a scratch. The items they were responsible for did not get the same attention. The LA company receiving my goods on this end were so surprised by the poor packing job from the Boston end that they actually took a picture of the storage block so that I would know what it looked like before they touched it. I immediately reached out to Allied and to ABC with my concerns and detailed explanations of everything that went wrong. Each company passed me off to the other, no one would take ownership of the issue, and in the end, they dropped out of conversation. I understand that sometimes things don't go right with moves, but when there are multiple, compounding issues, the company needs to own that. While it was the ABC folks who offered such bad service, the person there said, "we're all Allied," so Allied's brand is all over this problem, too. I would have been satisfied with a heart-felt apology and a token discount for all the mistakes. But they could not even do that, hence my review and my warning to others: LOOK CAREFULLY AT WHOM ALLIED IS HIRING TO DO YOUR MOVE! Allied should do better. ABC should do better. A friendly salesperson is not a salve for a really terrible experience during a move, which is already stressful. Allied needs to do a better job making sure that ALL their subcontractors are high quality and reliable. read more

We used Allied Van Lines to move us from Palmdale, CA to Madison, AL. The actual movers did a fantastic job. The packers were another story. They packed things that they were specifically told not to pack and didn't pack things they should have. They stuffed sweaters into a box like they were rags and then added two artificial flower arrangements with sand in the bottom to the same box. You can imagine the mess when that box was unpacked. I had a small wooden box with some cards inside. The box arrived empty. No idea where the cards are. I had packed some locking plastic bins with precious things. They wrapped all of those bins including Christmas decorations in brown paper. By wrapping these plastic bins which were locked they were able to count it as a "box packed". They used an inordinate amount of paper on DVDs but not nearly enough on pottery. The kitchen utensils and silverware were already in wooden boxes. They separated the silverware and utensils from the wooden boxes instead of just packing them all together. They used more material than necessary, wasted time and supplies just so they could charge us more money. If you choose Allied for your move, DO NOT let them do the packing. They made a real mess. I have never used a moving company before my company paid for me to move from Louisiana to Los Angeles. So for starters the guy who was moving my stuff quite and left all of my belongings in another state the only way I knew that something was wrong is when the date of arrival had passed 3 days ago and I called to find out what was going on. Next my boxes where incorrectly labels half of my boxes had multiple numbers on them and the other half did not have any numbers, still have the boxes and pictures as proof. I had a missing box and when I told the driver he said that I had to sign the paperwork and then file a claim and asked about this 3 time and was told that same Information and the driver was admit about signing. During my talk with the driver I felt pressured in to signing but he assured me that it would not affect the claim so when I filed the claim the company said that they could not reimburse for the missing box That had over $500 worth of items but because the paperwork was signed. I had the worst experience and will not be recommending them for any further moves. I am also reporting this to the company I work for that employed them. They have over 100 thousand employees across 50 states this is not good for allied. read more

We moved from California to Ohio. They quoted about the same price as the other companies but they gave my husband a guaranteed price even if the weight was off so we went with them, unfortunately. We had 3 movers pack up our house in California no problems if went fine. We get to Ohio get possession of our new home and call to make sure out possessions were being delivered the next day we are told the truck had mechanical problems it's delayed 3 days, my husband call the driver who was kind enough to give him his cell he asks what happened to your truck? the driver who was in the dark to his company's lie says what do you mean? they rescheduled me. So allied tells us go to hotel we will pay. At this time Joel the money collector starts sending emails and texts so I'm going to go ahead and bill you ok, ok, ok ,ok so annoying my husband tells him you have all our shit! Your in charge here buddy what am not going to pay you so stupid.they had said final Payment is expected day before stuff is delivered but now with a 3 day delay they wanted the rest of the money?!?! Wth So finally our stuff gets to Ohio again we have 3 guys unloading only this time 2 of them are racist, they make fun of the driver who is their supervisor they mock his accent and tell him to shut up and no they won't put anything together and how they live two hours away and have to go after 3 hours ,they also keep telling me to call and complain about the supervisor and all I could think was after 20 years your still just movers and after 5 years this guy who according to you hates America (yes they said this) and is a "f'in Mexican",,,, is your boss Lol,who should I complain about?!? In the end Allied would only pay for one meal a day for their 3 day delay, they lied, 10 dishes broken, and my husbands golf shoes expensive and specially packed were stolen.all the boxes by the Ohio guys put in the wrong rooms despite bold writing where they went, I have a lot of books we told them every box marked books goes n the guest room where the bookshelves are they put them all in the basement despite asking like 20!times where do books go, after they left we had to make at least 15 trips up to the 3rd floor with book boxes which after paying $8,000+ seems ridiculous, we worked harder then the Ohio movers hands down,bunk bed hardware lost, and my husbands very expensive ladder gone. They said when we called they have a warehouse full of lost ladders and they will look for it no word back ummmm his name is engraved on it and if you have a warehouse full of stolen ladders send one or pay for it. The only good part about allied was the driver who was honest, trustworthy,nice and a hard worker. Do not use them and I hope the driver gets a better job he should not have to deal with that abuse. I was inquiring about how much it would cost to move and the agent hung up on me!! Would Not recommend this company! I wanted an estimate over the phone and I guess they didn't like that as opposed to them coming out and doing a home inspection. Very unprofessional! read more

Moved from Bridgeton, New Jersey to Claymont, Delaware November, 2018 through Bayshore Allied of Delaware. A "Bob" from Allied gave us an estimate of $14,000 for the move. Once the move started, we heard nothing but cursing ang complaints from the mover's team leader, "Shane" (i.e. "Bob doesn't know what the "F-Bomb" he is doing and this move should have cost $10,000 more). After the horrendous move, with a multitude of damaged irreplaceable and costly items, missing money, expensive men's colognes, and a prescribed CDS medication we then found that a "team leader" gets paid per job whether it takes a day or weeks and he pays his crew. This is why we experienced a very shoddy, rushed job (i.e. using a "cardboard ramp" sliding boxes and bins down Bilco steps onto a concrete floor). This with the "team leader" prompting the crew to "hurry up." The "independent" appraiser came 08/20/2019 since our estimate of damages was over $10,000 and I await to heard what Allied has to say which may prompt our call to another appraiser and legal support. BTW, I was also informed by Allied that there is a $500.00 deductible even though they did the damages. read more

I contacted Allied Vans for an estimate for my wife's move from LA to Lincoln, Nebraska on Aug. 10. Aaron Anderson of Beverly Hills Transfer & Storage Co. came on Aug. 14 and provided us an Do Not Exceed estimate for $4,195.04. Constant delays and bad communication. First, on Aug. 18, Brittaney Gordon, our "move coordinator" at Beverly Hills Transfer and Storage, wrote an email to tell us the driver was "a day behind schedule." It went into her junk mail folder. It was lucky that she caught it and forwarded it to me. Really, Brittaney or somebody else from the office should have called us with this important information. There was no attempt to say, "we know this is inconvenient and here are the steps we are going to take to minimize the inconvenience." My wife had a flight booked for the next day and would have to reschedule it, for example. Beverly Hills Transfer did eventually agree to cover this--but I think it would have been appropriate to offer this upfront. Moreover, I have a strong suspicion that if WE had been the ones asking for a date change, we would incur a fee for that. Probably a sizable one. The moving day itself was a nightmare. * The driver was supposed to show up during a two hour window in the early morning (between 8 and 10am). He did not show up. It was only when my wife called Brittaney at around 11am, asking her to provide information on when the driver would arrive, did anyone at Beverly Hills/Allied apparently even realize anything was amiss. This initiated a day long process of trying to clarify what the problem was, where our driver was and what was going to happen. Brittaney failed to call back after my wife's first call at 11am. It was only the actions of Aaron, who proved extremely helpful in this regard (especially so given that it's not his job to coordinate moves), that my wife was able to get any information at all. After Aaron's repeated attempts to find out what was going on, it was revealed that the driver had received instructions to pick up our goods at a storage warehouse. This makes no sense as it was clearly agreed between my wife, Aaron, and the driver who had called the previous day, insisting that he bring a shuttle at extra cost to our residence. * I don't know why at this point (around 12.30pm) the driver didn't leave for the apartment but he didn't. Meanwhile, it still seemed like the driver and the office were still not communicating with each other. Brittaney was slow to call us back throughout the day. * Now I don't know who was specifically responsible for this initial miscommunication--whether the driver, Brittaney, or a mix of both of them. Why hadn't one of them phoned the other to ensure that they were on the same page? We hired Allied to coordinate the move but it seemed at that point, we were the ones doing all of the coordinating. This continued to drag on. It seems that at a certain point the driver was refusing to leave. Brittaney and her manager Tripp Pettigrew-Rolapp eventually were able to change that--but probably it helped that I refused to change the date. I was about ready to fly to LA myself and rent a UHaul. * We finally got word that the driver was indeed coming by about 4pm. The driver eventually showed up at 6pm and finished packing at 10pm. That went as well as it could; the driver and his assistant worked hard to complete the loading process but my wife was absolutely exhausted and stressed by the end of this. She had to get to a hotel near the airport and had a few other errands to take care of, so it was a late night for her with an early flight the next morning. We chose Allied precisely because we did not want the headache of coordinating a move. We wanted to minimize whatever kind of uncertainty we could. And we wanted to deal with a professional, proactive organization that responded promptly. We could have certainly contracted a company that charged much less. I had quotes in the ballpark of $1,000-2,000 but from companies we were not confident could deliver on those things I just outlined. So we decided to pay a premium--but I don't think we got the service we paid for. Moving is incredibly stressful. Delays are stressful. Having to spend an extra day in a packed up apartment is stressful. Having to wait in the apartment on move day because it was absolutely unclear if or when the driver was stressful. Ultimately I don't think what was promised at the start of this process was delivered. When we tried to complain, we didn't get an apology, let alone any kind of compensation. In fact, Allied and Beverly Hills Storage passed the buck to one another, each claiming that "only the other" could possibly offer a concrete gesture of apology such as a price reduction. Don't ever use either of these companies. read more

Allied Van Lines has horrible customer service. The so called agent lied about the services that the company provides, and when I asked to speak to his supervisor she was rude, and obnoxious. Both were very unprofessional. They tend to forget that they get a paycheck thanks to the customers. read more

Stay away! I've hired several other movers in the past, and Allied was by far the worst. Their practices are reckless and deceptive. When my belongings arrived, my bookcase was broken in half, my nightstand was crushed, my guitar and its hardshell case were crushed, and two large bags of property were completely missing. The total damage was around $1,000. After several claims (including photos of damage and item numbers) and appeals, they insisted that these damages were pre-existing (which they were not). They refuse to insure anything that's not packaged by them. If you have a guitar in a hardshell case, for example, and it gets crushed, that's not their problem because they didn't double pack it into a cardboard box. So, if it doesn't fit in one of their boxes, your screwed, and they don't warn you about this in advance. I'm currently working with a lawyer to file a suit to recover the damages and report potentially fraudulent practices. read more

Allied Van Lines/Compass Moving out of Denver - STAY CLEAR OF THEM. We had to take them to small claims court (we prevailed by the way) in order to recover a pittance of what was stolen & broken, not to mention all of the delays and unfilled promises. Make sure you have pictures, lots of pictures, copies of all documents, front and back, and read the "fine print". Took approximately 22 days from beginning to end to get our goods moved from three storage units in Littleton, CO to Sun City, AZ. Our move was as nightmarish as most of the other 355 ?? negative reviews about this company. It must be customary to outright lie to your customers. This will probably be our final move and the horrid memory and wonderment of my missing precious goods will be with me forever. We would have been better off selling all of our possessions and repurchasing since they stole or broke many precious items, many family heirlooms and antiques. Drivers being no-shows, having to shuttle goods from here to there, delivery dates being changed constantly so you don't know if you are coming or going. My suggestion would be to STAY CLEAR OF THE BIG MOVING COMPANIES and pay family members, in our case $8500 up front. Our only satisfaction was to take them to Small Claims Court because they had to take time to spend in court (twice) and pay their lawyers and the court sided with us. Also, if you take them to court, make sure you check with the state to get "all" of their alias names so the court doesn't dismiss your case. In our case we had to go back twice because Allied Moving is also Compass Moving, North American Van Line, and the list goes on & on and on. Rotten to the core, from beginning to end.
