**Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 16/100** What do you do when you're hungry, hungover, and broke? Head to Birdie's! Started coming here in graduate school because one of my classmates lived down the street. Kept coming here because the food is AMAZING, coffee flows freely, and the prices just can't be beat. Also, the waitresses are the sweetest. Located on the Alhambra golf course, it's a little difficult to find this cafe sequestered in between the clubhouse buildings. However, once you do find it, you will be treated to a clean, simple set-up. It's nothing fancy, but it's seemingly never crowded (which I'll never understand) and usually you can sit pretty much wherever you want. Views are primarily of the golf course; sometimes you get some people watching at the bar. Overall, very mellow vibe. You can get a 3-item combo or $5.95. (Um, what?) This includes either eggs cooked your way, biscuits, sausage, bacon, toast w/ butter/jam, pancakes... there are probably other options too. All the food is DELICIOUS - basic breakfast fare done so so well. Coffee is good and they make a point of keeping you topped off and happy! They do have a full bar as well. Service is also awesome. They are so sweet, attentive, and they never judge you for the swipe of mascara that's run all down your cheek that you don't notice until 3 pm because you have friends that enjoy watching you look like a moron in public. Everybody gets bad service from time to time. Today was our turn. 1. The coffee was burnt. 2. I had to ask for cream for my coffee three times until my wife got up and got it herself. 3. I had to ask for hot water for my burnt coffee four times. 4. I was never offered a refill of burnt coffee. 5. The table next to us ordered after us, and ordered similar dishes received their food prior to us. 6. When we would wave down the waitress, she would act like she didn't see us and turn away. The food came out steaming and smelling great and was delivered to my table which was outdoors and overlooked a beautiful and scenic golf course with a lake and a fountain. I've had my fair share of chicken fried steaks and I'd say this one is put on a pedestal. Everything from chicken, gravy and toppings tasted fresh and made from scratch which made it even more satisfying to eat. The flavor and texture were both phenomenal. I also ordered a side of hash browns which were made to perfection. The picture attached to this review does not serve the justice this breakfast deserves. The customer service was superb as well, I was greeted and seated by Nicole who walked me through the menu and made my experience even better. We tried this place for the first time a couple of weeks ago. The french toast was amazing and the prices were very reasonable. Our server Dolores was friendly and extremely helpful. We will definitely be adding Birdie's to our go to list for restaurants. read more

It was once one of my favorite places for breakfast, but it has since gone downhill. A steep, lengthy hill. Staff less attentive. We got a cup with lipstick on it. Portion sizes went down while prices went up. Menu options are a bit more limited now. Sad see something so good change for the worse. read more

Been going here for years and now they decide to change the menu to not being able to get lunch at anytime. Really? The whole reason for me coming was to get the tuna melt during my breakfast business meeting. Depending on who's on the grill, they usually can't fry an egg correctly but do fine with burgers, tuna melts and fries. Now I will be taking my weekly business meetings and my clients to Bun n Burger where I can get lunch whenever I want. If it's not broke don't fix it. read more

In all of my years living here, I never knew this place existed! I was running with my friend Mary at Almansor Park when we decided to grab a quick and easy breakfast located just two blocks down. Moments upon entry, you notice a worn-down Birdie's sign but you don't mind, older restaurants can have a certain charm to them. Seating, ranging from indoor, patio or bar counter, was mostly full, so we opted for the latter. The giant, big-screen TVs inundate the visual senses but are outdone by the loud, raucous crowd made up of older gentry, golfers, and the occasional family. Eyeballing the simple breakfast and lunch menu, I ordered a machaca burrito which consisted of pulled beef, eggs, cubed potatoes, and a side of salsa. The portion was very big and hearty, but the supple potatoes overwhelmed the palate. My friend got a French toast and hash browns, yet only liked the crusty parts. Both of our meals took 20 minutes to arrive and came out to ~$11. Overall, the restaurant was a convenient choice, service was welcoming enough, and prices came out to dirt cheap. You get a nice view of the golf course from the restaurant and parking is relatively big, but gets surprisingly packed due to the banquet hall next door which services itself to job fairs, weddings, and other festivities. read more

I like breakfast and I love impromptu breakfast. We found this breakfast spot because of yelp. What a nice view. I love waking up to a good view. It was so nice to have breakfast at a golf course. Not the best golf course, but it's relaxing to eat your "BITE" your pancake and drink a "CUP" of coffee at this hidden gem, puns intended. Orange juice ($2.45): it tasted like Minute Maid OJ IMO. Two eggs, breakfast ham and 2 pancakes ($5.75): the eggs were okay, but I didn't really care for its ham. The pancakes were not good. McDonald's pancakes are better than these pancakes. Two eggs, 1 french toast, 2 bacon & 2 sausage ($6.75): I regretted not getting the bacon and sausage. This combination was better than what I got. The workers were super nice, but not helpful. I had to ask her more than 3 times for recommendations because she kept saying everything was good. No...what I got wasn't good :( A cheap, relaxing breakfast, overlooking the golf course. That Saturday morning felt like a Sunday morning for me. 3 stars!! 2 stars for the food and 1 extra star for my morning view. Birdie's is almost yummylicious!! read more

This place was a little hidden gem! It's located inside of the golf course entrance with a plenty of parking. We had a seat outdoors overlooking the grounds and it was a gorgeous day outside. Service was awesome from the hostess and breakfast was absolutely delicious. Completely unassuming spot! I even had a spicy Bloody Mary with breakfast. Food came out fast too! I will definitely be returning here for my breakfasts. And I can't wait to try their lunch food. read more

Birdie's is located at the Alhambra Golf Course & Driving Range, aside the Almansor Court & Banquets. The dining area is spacious and clean. With large windows, the restaurant has a wide view that overlooks the golf course. The two flatscreen TVs took up a large section of opposite walls. Not sure why they were set to 'close captioning', since the screens were large enough where I could read their lips. :) Sonya was covering the entire floor and did a wonderful job serving our table of 9, as well as taking care of all of the other patrons this morning. We only had the opportunity to try the breakfast here, before heading to a Volleyball tournament, held at the LA Convention Center. Prices are reasonable. Good quality Bacon, which was cooked nice and crispy. The Create Your Own section of the menu advertises only 2 slices, but we got 4 each. My fiancé's Corned Beef Hash had a top layer of brownness and was cooked just right in the inside. Not mushy, just the way he likes it. My Over Easy eggs though were not flipped Over long enough, as its muculent eggs whites ran into my bacon. One of my nieces opted for whipped butter melted atop a stack of well-cooked, browned Buttermilk pancakes, drenched with maple syrup. With the exception of my dad and brother, most of us are not golfers, but you don't have to play golf to come here and have a good first meal of the day. read more

Great experience on a Sunday morning, we were seated promptly and Dolores was very helpful when she took our order. She is bilingual(spanish and english) which was extremely helpful becuase our uncles were visiting here from Oaxaca. The food was served delicious and hot! Just how we love it! Highly recommended. I heard the chips and salsa at Birdie's was commendable, so I decided to give this place a shot. It was 3:10 when I entered the establishment and the server did not notify us that the kitchen was closed. Instead, she proceeded to take our drink orders without telling us... Keep in mind the kitchen closes at 3pm. It would have been nice if they had written this info on their business page. Needless to say, I was left a tad bit upset. My next comment is on the interior. Heavy wooden tables and chairs, no booths. It looks like an outdated dining room. Needless to say, I probably won't be back for the chips and salsa. read more

This restaurant is located inside the Alhambra Golf Course. They serve breakfast and lunch only from 7am to 3pm. The food is typical American breakfasts such as omelets and steak and eggs. Their lunches are sandwiches and salad items. The food is average and the service is a little bit slow. I had the omelet and the best part is how cheesy it is. read more

All of the good reviews & pics convinced me to give Birdie's a try, and I was not disappointed. Actually, I'm kind of upset with myself that such a great breakfast spot has been hiding in plain sight, and it took me so long to try this place. The inside might have recently been remodeled, because it's really nice. There are 2 large TVs and a small one in the corner, a bar & nice tables & chairs. The build-your-own-breakfast is a very clever idea of a mix & match of probably 10 things to choose from. Baby C & I shared scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage, ham & an English muffin. Mrs. C got the omelette, but unfortunately that doesn't come with anything. The pricing is pretty reasonable & thanks to the Yelpers for highlighting this place, or I would never have known about it! read more

Everything was delicious and with a coffee it came out to under $15 and I walked away happy and sated. Only thing that dampened the visit was that I couldn't take any coffee to go. 3 stars because of wait time and food value to dollar ratio. Wait time. With immediate seating we waited 40 mins for our food to arrive at our table. I ordered a 3 egg omelet with chorizo, tomato, chili and cheddar cheese. A perfect order for me on this particular day. It also set me back around $9. The gripe is simple, every other breakfast place includes a side to round out the meal. This place, nothing. My wife had a 3 egg omelet with spinach, tomato, jalapeño and onion. It looked liked they divided the ingredients into pairs and didn't allow the 2 to meet in the middle. The ingredients were not blended. She was not excited. Tip for the first-timer: if you see anyone waiting for a seat and you are wanting a quick bite, leave! It must be a small kitchen. Wait time, small kitchen, small portions for a breakfast place earned 3-stars and will not gain another visit. 2.5 stars is the actual. The wait staff was decent. We came on a weekday morning for your traditional American breakfast on a golf course and the place wasn't packed at all. We only had three people and the food took awhile to get served because the only waitress on the floor was helping golfers at the bar at the same time. The food is decent and affordable. I made my own breakfast combination - 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 French toast, 2 eggs - which came out to about $7. A friend ordered an omelette and another ordered hash browns, potatoes, and eggs. I go to the Almansor golf course all the time, but I didn't know there was a brunch place right next door! Super convenient after a golf hangout and want something quick to eat. However, it is quite easy to miss. This place had really great service and the food came out pretty quick. I got the build your own breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash brown. The proportions are pretty big. It definitely made me super full. The breakfast is simple, but definitely worth the price. It's the perfect place if you want to eat an affordable brunch. The environment was laid back and I had a really great time. I went at around 10 and it wasn't too busy. I would definitely come back after a golf course day, or if I'm ever craving for some classic breakfast without making it! read more

I've driven pass this restaurant quite a few time in the last decade and finally went there today. The restaurant is quite nice and cozy inside. They were fully staffed which was nice, but the staff only came by our table maybe two times throughout our meal. Not a big deal though. The food however is nothing to brag about. It's just your standard American breakfast. IHOP quality food but without the large selection. You can customize your order which is pretty nice, but again, the food is just okay. This is a "one and done" for me. Well I decided to go back to Almansor Grill once again, and again the food was okay. Service wise, the waitress who helped us was friendly, however not everyone is. There is one waitress, older short Hispanic lady, who will just ignore you if you ask questions. She did this on both of my visits there. I'm not sure if there is a language barrier, but she was pretty rude. It's one thing to acknowledge someone and say someone would be right with you, but to just walk by without saying a word as we're flagging her by when she was within 6" of my table is just rude. read more

Another perfect place for breakfast. Inexpensive but incredible small cafe. The great service, nice area, less people so we don't need to wait as always and beautiful viewing are giving us a very nice experience. Our waitress Vicky is awesome. The cafe is very busy today, and she is handling all of the customers with fast and great smile. She is good! The breakfast also great coz you can mix and match your own meal. The size is kinda big for Asian like me, which is good to having a big great meal in low cost. Since they are only a small cafe with less staffs, if you are in a hurry and want to get a quick meal, they won't be a first choice for rush people. I was there this AM. The young girl with Kong black hair serving seemed overwhelmed and was not very pleasant. There were two tables available and she says to wait. Fine, other sever said go ahead and sit where you like it's only two of you. Young server could have sat us from the beginning and we could have patiently waited seated. Older women had more common sense. I ordered chorizo typically this dish automatically is scrambled with eggs because it is a very strong seasoned meat. Therefore I assumed it would be a mix of the two. Literally I was given chorizo in a small bowl along with the hash browns I ordered on the side. I told the young server that the meat was very strong on its own and she said that is what's on the menu. Basically too bad, which I was forced to order a 4th side (eggs) because here they even charge for the tortillas and you are only given two. I would suggest an upgrade on the menu especially on the chorizo because every bite I took there was a piece of tough fat. Pretty much filled the napkin with fat. It would be nice to have enjoyed my breakfast but I was ultra disappointed with the server who'm got bothered with my comment after ordering eggs and my son noticed how she placed the plate of eggs hard on the table no need for that even if overwhelmed due to the busy morning. You signed up for the job and just be courteous and understanding of customers needs. We go to enjoy the outing not to receive unpleasant attitude. It was not an outages ask nor comment so please next time take a breather and be more helpful young lady. Take a little more time when people have questions, don't make one feel so rushed. read more

Awesome service. This is the perfect place for brunch with a view. Our first time and it was active outside. They're having a golf tournament which is pretty cool, the day is beautiful the outdoor seating has a great view and the food didn't disappoint. Our server greeted us right away and was quick with the whole process. Our baby is happy and so are we. Great way to stay the day.! Thank you Dolores for the GREAT service.
