Opening hours with Saturday and Sunday "Sometimes" due to catering jobs

I don't normally post reviews but I felt compelled to today. Today they were supposed to be Closed; however, they made an exception to my 102 year old buddy. He was craving their fried rice that they catered back in Feb 2026 during his wife's memorial service. Personally, I can't remember what I ate last night!!! Jennifer made a lunch plate for him today. I even saw her helped two senior citizens while picking up the food. In addition, she went over and beyond and drove me back to my 102 year buddy. I injured my leg not paying attention to the parked scooter after coming out of the bus. Luckily, we don't have those scooters in Monterey Park. So, THANK YOU Jennifer!

I had Aloha Cafe bookmarked for a while. I finally got a chance to try it out. I wasn't sure what to order so I got the Kalua pork plate. They provided a generous portion of meat. I felt the plate was lacking veggies. There is some cabbage on the plate but not enough. It was just protein and carbs. I also ordered 2 spam musubis. Those were delicious as well.

I haven't been here since they changed their hours changed. They went from open most of the week to only a few days for takeout and catering so was not around when they were open. Today we were looking for breakfast, went walking around and saw on Yelp that they were open. We went in and were warmly greeted. They had a simple menu, mostly lunch items but also had off menu breakfast items as well. We got the Komai breakfast which included 2 of each meats (spam, portugues saisage, vienna sausage), corned beef hash patty, 2 eggs, 2 scoops of rice and 2 bread rolls. Big breakfast. So good.

We were referred by a friend for the catering offered by the cafe. Contact regarding the menu options was easy and clear. We made an appointment to.come taste the entrees and the portions and selections were delicious and generous for a nominal fee. We've booked them for our event, but I'll come back for lunch at the cafe. The items were wonderful!

Don't remember how I heard about this place, but I'm sure I didn't read that it's a to go place only. Which is kind of confusing because it occupies a full restaurant location with tables and chairs. The person who took my order said they mostly do catering. I did order the loco moco. As you can see by the picture it was drenched in the gravy. Really, more like a 3.5, but I rounded up. Not someplace I'd be going back to.

Delightful casual little restaurant that features delicious Hawaiian fare. Exquisitely fresh ingredients. Hubby and I loved the huge Loco Moco (couldn't finish!) , the fruit plate, and the side salad. Service was stellar. Even though they say it's "Take Out" only, there were a dozen or so well-kept tables and booths that were wonderful to sit at. Prices were super reasonable. Highly recommend.

Ask the Community - Aloha Café

Is this place going to stay closed until June 2023 or is Yelp misinformed?

We were there for a private party in December 2022. We are also hoping to have another private party in late February 2023. Not sure what their plans are for regular hours in 2023. Will see if I can find out additional information.

Is there full indoor dining now?

No, as of 3/26 there were only two tables just inside the entrance for indoor seating. The rest of the restaurant is still closed for seating. Take out is still an option.

    Is breakfast served all day?

    Yes :)

Are they open during COVID-19 says open at 8am but no one has answered phone for 30 minutes ? Or new hours?

Yes they are open. Usually by 9am

Why are they always closed? I've went before the closing time of 4pm and they're never open

On sundays they close at 2pm and every other day @3pm

Does anyone know if Aloha Cafe makes party platters?

Yes they have a catering menu and are wonderful about helping accommodate the amount based on your guest count.

    Is it dog friedly?

No it's not. They only have indoor seating.

There were a few parking garages and street parking nearby as it is in downtown LA and all. Plenty of seating when you come in and there's a fe other food stalls inside. When we went up to order, the man at the front was super helpful and nice. We tried a few different things to all try. -Beef Plate Lunch 5/5- The Meat Jun in question, was thin and battered perfectly but still was easy to bite. The sauce it came with was extremely authentic and felt like home. It was served on top a bed of purple rice. One of us paired it with the cucumber which was perfectly spicy and flavorful. The other paired it with a side of the potato-mac salad that was not too creamy and felt complimented the meat Jun well. -Teri Chicken Plate Lunch 4/5- I loved the flavor of the chicken, but some pieces were a bit drier than what I would have preferred. Also served over purple rice with a side -Spam Musubi 5/5- Served with their signature purple rice, which I have never had before. It was loaded up with rice and spam and lots of flavor. It was a nice reminder of home. - Local Breakfast 4/5- I love Portuguese sausage and my only critique is that there's not enough of it! -Kalbi Short Rib Plate 5/5- Was a special that they had for the day and they still had a few left. Very flavorful and easy to tear off the bone, I loved it. Overall, Broken Mouth satisfied our cravings and exceeded all our expectations! Would definitely go back. Also shout out for the complimentary drinks as it was our first time there, truly appreciated! Would definitely recommend and come back when we're in the area!

Will never be the same as eating back home on the islands. Aunty Maile's comes close though. Been here a few times since they moved from the spot over on Crenshaw. I like it here. More parking. Only problem is if you're going in the afternoon, sometimes it's a bitch to make the left turn into the parking lot because of all the traffic. Walk in. Place your order, pay and then grab a seat. Indoors or out. Someone brings your order to you. Not really table side service. But the staff is friendly. Nice - but usually busy so they don't really talk story. Yesterday's visit, I picked up the two item combo and all Mac Salad (no rice). The Kalbi was good but the portion size was on the small side. The Chicken Katsu was a little dry. Not so much that I didn't eat it. And the Mac Salad - for my taste, I like it made with more mayo. I like it to the point that people's arteries start to clog just watching it being made. Anyway, my family is going back home in a few days I got a craving after they asked me to take them to LAX. So, after work, I went and got my fix. Like I said before - it's not the same as if I was back home but for Hawaiian style food in the LA area, this is my favorite.

Everyone was attentive, friendly, and made us feel very welcome. To start I really loved the yellowtail crispy rice. It was one of the best versions I've ever had. The spicy yellowtail was perfectly seasoned, the crispy rice had the ideal texture, and the sauce, ikura, and finishing touches brought everything together beautifully. I also loved that they offered a 50/50 option with Spam crispy rice since that's my husband's favorite, so we both got exactly what we wanted. The tuna poki featured excellent quality fish, although the sauce wasn't my personal favorite. My husband absolutely loved it, though. The dumplings were another highlight and ended up being his favorite dish of the night. You could tell they were made fresh in-house, and the peas added a really nice balance. My only note was that the sauce leaned a little too heavily on the coconut flavor for my taste. For our entrée, we ordered the pan-fried snapper. I completely forgot to take a photo before we started serving ourselves, but it was beautifully cooked. It reminded me a bit of bronzino with its delicate, flaky texture. The fish itself was fantastic, although, similar to a few other dishes, the sauce wasn't quite what I'm used to. The warm rice pudding was also really tasty. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough actual rice pudding compared to all of the toppings because the flavor was so good. For reference, I'm someone who really doesn't enjoy Thai food, while my husband loves it. This isn't Thai food at all, but some of the sauces had coconut-forward flavor profiles that reminded me of flavors I typically don't gravitate toward. Even with that, I still genuinely enjoyed every dish we ordered, which says a lot about how well everything was prepared. There were dishes I'd absolutely order again, and others I'd probably swap out next time simply because there were so many interesting options on the menu. I also appreciated that the menu had plenty of seafood options, which was perfect since I've been trying to eat more fish. Everything we ordered was fresh and high quality. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere. It's on the smaller side, but it feels cozy rather than cramped. I also think it's a great place to come with a group because the portions are perfect for sharing, making it easy to try a variety of dishes. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be back. Next time, I'd love to explore more of the menu because there were so many dishes that caught my eye.
