I've had their poke bowl with creamy scallop and spicy salmon in the past and it was just fine. I remembered seeing that they have poke nachos here and came back to try that. I didn't really enjoy the poke nachos here because I felt like there was just too much going on in this tiny container, I wish it was more spread out. I also don't really like how saucy it was and wish we could taste the fish more. If I order it again, I would ask for less sauce. I also found that you needed to consume this asap because the wonton chips got soggy pretty quick. The service was really nice and when I asked to sub the tuna out for salmon, she was willing to do so! There isn't really any seating inside and it's been so hot outside lately, so I would recommend coming here for take out and taking it home. I came on a Sunday for lunch with some friends. I really liked how there's a small size, and you can get half rice, half salad for those of us that love veg! There's so much variety in the poke and toppings they offer. The mac salad was really good and I liked their galbi poke, but I'd love to try their shrimp or scallop. As you walk in, the menu is posted on the board, with the poke and side selection available in the display case. They operate as take-out only, so we chose to picnic at a nearby park. I got the Small Kine which came with one type of poke and two sides; Spicy Salmon, Mac Salad, and Namasu were my choices. Mac Salad was typical and the Namasu was slightly vinegary. I'm not a fan of sides in poke bowls. Authentic poke bowls just consist of warm rice and fresh poke--so the texture and taste of the sides threw off my tastebuds. The Spicy Salmon had a kick to it but I wish it was saucier and creamier. My companion and I felt that they skimped out on the marinade, but the quality of the fish was fresh. Being that authentic poke is virtually non-existent in the Bay Area, Aloha Fresh is a decent in-between. The prices are quite steep for the portion of poke you get, but quality is good. Aloha Fresh has a lot of diversity in their poke options! I was in between choosing the Korean style shrimp or the garlic mayo scallops, but ultimately went with the shrimp and wasn't disappointed at all. The shrimp definitely had a nice kick from the gochujang, and it wasn't fishy at all! I got that in a small bowl with kimchi and mac salad, and while the kimchi wasn't anything to write home about, the mac salad was great. It was also a surprisingly big bowl for a small, and I can say I'd definitely come again for authentic poke (even if what I got wasn't very authentic, heh). Gotta try the scallops next! read more

The Good: *Super fast and friendly service, as we can get in and get out usually in under 5 min. *More than just poke, as they have a slew of other offerings, including fried chicken, Kalua pork, Lau Lau, and sPam® Musubi--just to name a few. *As mentioned above, the fish is always super fresh, and they have more than just ahi and salmon, as they also have scallop, tako (octopus), and shrimp pokes. *You can also pre-order ahead on their website for even faster pickup (and to avoid having to pay for parking). *Rewards program (I believe it's buy ten get one free but not 100% on that) The Meh: *Limited dine-in space *You must pay ($2/hr) for parking (except Sundays & Holidays) if you plan to stay for long. I've been on a hunt for a new poke place since my previous favorite has gone downhill. I've previously heard great things about Aloha Fresh so I decided to give them a shot. Aloha Fresh is known for being Hawaiian-style poke rather than the more American-style and they import their fish straight from Hawaii. Let's see how they stack up. FOOD There are several different bowls they offer with various different things, but, in general, they have three categories: poke, sides, and hot options. For their poke, they have different types of seafood including the standard ahi and salmon, and the rarer scallops and octopus. Their ahi and salmon have different types of marinade options and you can see all their offerings in their display. I've opted for the #1 Poke Lovers bowl, which comes with 2 poke and 2 sides. The bowl comes with your choice of rice, some greens, and is topped with ginger. They also add some sauce into the rice before adding your poke and sides. The poke is very fresh and marinated just the right amount so the flavor isn't overwhelming. For the sides, there are two sides that you have a pay a bit extra, but the sides are generally very good as well and add variety for your bowl. I do wish the crab salad was no extra charge, but they have good alternatives. Food is great. It's refreshing and not heavy at all. You'll leave happy and full! The first time I had this, I forgot to take a picture because i was too eager to try it. Take that as you may. SERVICE It's basically counter service. The few times I've come, there was a line, but it usually moves fast, even as they are juggling online orders and in-person orders. When it's your turn, they'll ask you what you want and then build your bowl. Once it's done, you pay at the register. Utensils, napkins, and soy sauce/hotsauce is self-serve by the register. Service is quick and efficient. Never had a problem with the service. COST For the #1, it's basically $20 after everything. A bit on the pricey side for the meal, but for the quality and the quantity you are getting, it's a great price. Not exactly the cheapest eats, but very reasonable. SETTING No seating is available here, but there are lots of tables scattered around Japantown if you want to eat. Most of the interior is just for people waiting to pick up their order or for the line to build. If you are grabbing this for a date, I recommend walking around town and finding a spot to eat it. Otherwise, this is a grab and go place. Parking might be tricky depending on when you go since it's all street parking. The parking near the restaurant is generally paid parking if it's a weekday, so you might have to park a few blocks over if you don't want to pay for parking. Usually 3 half pounds and a milk tea is about ~$50 after tax. While that may sound pricey, the fact that you really can't get this anywhere else without taking a flight to Hawaii is fine with me. Pros: - EXCELLENT poke, melts in your mouth like butter. It literally feels like you're transported to Hawaii. The fish is super fresh tasting, and the sauces are great. They even didn't put the miso salmon sauce into the takeout container until after scooping it up, so it doesn't get too over-marinated in it. - Really fast service, to the point, you can get in and out pretty quickly. All the workers are really nice and efficient. - Near a bunch of other great food options in the "Japantown" area of San Jose, so you can easily walk to a great mochi store or get other food Cons: - parking can get tricky in this area and you might have to walk a bit after parking in a residential neighborhood. - You can't rack up "stamps" by just buying poke by the half pound or pound, which is kind of unfortunate (they only do it for poke bowl orders) Overall the pros massively outweight the cons and I hope they never go out of business. 10/10 will drive farther to SJ just to get this. read more

Review is for the the Kalbi Ahi, and Shoyu Ahi. Both were heavy on the soy. Kalbi has more sweetness, whereas the Shoyu seems to have a bit of wasabi added as well. I could feel a bit of the nasal pungency. However they were both VERY salty (especially the Kalbi), which made it hard to eat. I had to keep chasing it with mac salad. The marinades were flavorful but not overpowering, and the bed of rice is served freshly warm. The poke lover bowl also comes with two sides; I chose mac salad and ocean salad. Mac salad is something I've never had in my poke bowl; I liked it but would probably opt for a less heavy side next time. I also wish they would ask whether or not we wanted pickled ginger instead of putting it directly in. This way it wouldn't go to waste for the people that prefer not to have it. However, the pieces of the fish were larger in size which in my opinion could've been cut smaller. We also got an order of the butter mochi, 3 pieces for $6. I forget which flavor we got but 2 of the 3 were really good. There was one piece that tasted under baked and was really gooey. Overall, the poke seemed pretty fresh.. and toppings are limited/ and at additional costs.
