Amboy is in the Far East Plaza right across from Howlin' Ray's. Do they have one of the best burgers in town? Well, LA is blessed with exceptional burgers and this one is in the conversation. DH: First, you pick the style of the burger. I got the DH, a hefty 10-ounce dry aged beef patty - medium rare. Next, you select the accompaniments. With the Amboy, there are caramelized onions, American cheese, sliced pickles, Amboy sauce, and a toasted sesame bun. The beef patty is thick and plump, extra crispy on the edge (maybe slightly too much so). It is a bit too salty on the outside, while needing a bit more seasoning inside. It's medium on the edges, but nice pink and juicy in the center. Also, 10 ounces is huge, you're probably better off with one of the smaller patties or going with a double. The fries are tin and really crispy. They're nice, get them.

Saw this place ranked in the top 10 burgers in the world and, being a lover of great food, I had to give it a try. So hopped in the car and drove over and got in line. First, the place is located right across from Howlin' Rays in Chinatown. So parking is all around, which is nice. There was a line, to be expected with a top 10 burger, but the line moved pretty fast. I ordered the Amboy DH burger, which is their dry aged patty with American cheese, caramelized onions, pickles and burger sauce on a sesame seed bun. To be ranked as high as it is, my expectations are through the roof and, because of that, it did not meet the expectations. The never is very good, very thick ass well, and the bun had great flavor. What threw it off, for me, was the pickles. The pickles just did not mesh with the other flavors. The pickle is just very potent and dampens all the other great things going on in each bite. Bites that did not have the pickle were so much better. So I would say to get it without the pickle and I feel it will be exponentially better. The being said, while it is a good burger, I feel there are others in LA that beat it in terms of flavo, but I'll put it in my top ten in LA for sure.

Recently being one of the top chatted spot for burger in town! Has seen people posting that thick juicy patty all over social media and obviously I didn't wanna miss out. Taking place in the same plaza as Howlin Rays and Lasita in Chinatown, you could certainly tell how busy it was in holiday and weekend. The line has constantly been long and despite there's online pre-order option, it's intermittently off and the price's marked-up. We took prolly good 30mins in the line but once the first bite of their DH Burger hit, it felt totally worth the wait. The medium rare dry aged patty was so juicy that you could even see as you sliced through it. Cooked medium rare certainly nailed it. That sesame bun people have been raving about was indeed so good being crispy and buttery; and their housemade Amboy sauce was just succulent! Made it even better, go for extra bacon for sure and get their fries on the side.

Food: If you're going to order the DH, I would suggest getting it Amboy style. The steakhouse was good but kind of too sweet. The patty itself was cooked perfectly, with a nice crisp in the ends. The amboy double smash was really good, I would add chilis to it next time for some spicy and acidity. The hotdog was all good amboy style. The bun was nice and crispy but the dog itself was average. My expectations for this place was 8/10 and the reality of it was also 8/10. Good but nothing blew my mind. Service: I think they need to hire one more person. The cashier was also serving the food so she was only taking 3 orders at a time, and then serving 2 orders after so the line took about 40 mins to order. She was doing amazing but I think it's a disservice to the customers and employees to have only 1 person running the front. Because of that, it makes me a little hesitant to come back.

Believe the hype this place is legit. All of the press that claimed this restaurant was one of the best for hamburgers were correct. I got the DH which is the dry aged thick burger. It was so juicy my hands were wet. Thankfully there was a public restroom near the restaurant. They don't validate parking, the only downside.

Decedent burgers in a Chinatown strip mall. Went for lunch, got there about 20 minutes before they opened and glad I did. The line went about 30 deep when I turned around. Ordered the amboy DH, along with some cheese fries. Took about 15 minutes to come out. It was very rich and delicious. I'm glad the bun holds well with the sauce and melted cheese. The fries were pretty good too, but I don't think there was much room left in my stomach for fries. I'm not one who waits in line, but if I can get there a little early to beat the wait, would be happy to come back again.

Basic small french fry. Not crispy at all.

Amboy has been on my radar for a bit, and then one of my Filipino coworkers found out it was Filipino, and then recently I had a lot of good press and then became a social media, darling, so it was finally time to try it! We're not far from the Chinatown location, but too far to walk/eat/walk back in time, so we ordered up DoorDash and it would still be relatively fresh by the time I got there. They are right across from my all-time favorite, Howlin' Ray's, so I know exactly where they're at, but I will have to get down there eventually and check out the ambience of the location and the service quality of the staff. Since it was my first time, I decided to go with the basic Amboy burger, so I could taste the base foundation; and even though I didn't think the fries would travel very well, I decided to get a small order of those, along with a chili dog so I could get a good base level sampling of the menu. Overall, with all the hype recently, I thought it was good, but not what I was expecting from the hype. I'll Order again though and try some more of the menu The portion sizes were good and very filling. The fries really need to be fried crispier because they were pretty flaccid and lifeless when they arrived. The bun was firmer than I anticipated it would be; fresh but somewhat dry. Maybe one of the burgers with the juicy or toppings would help. The hotdog was large and stuck at each end of the bun, probably 3 inches, the chili I liked better than Tommy burgers and overall it was a decent hot dog, but I would love to try fresh at the store one day. One of my Filipino coworkers loved his meal, and the other was just 'eh', but overall we enjoyed it and we would eat it again.

Amboy Classic was a very good smash burger.

Burgers in Chinatown? Sure, why not. Howlin' Rays sells chicken sandwiches just steps across the narrow courtyard/alley from Amboy. There is some metered street parking available and a giant lot across the street but the lot may cost $10 or more. You have to scan the QR Code to find out. Are the burgers here worth they hype? I would say yes. The meat and the buns are very high quality. The DH burgers costs a stiff $21 but it's a huge fat patty, caramelized onions, cheese, and a little sloppy with the burger sauce (but in a good way). The meat is very juicy and flavorful. It is a delicious beast. The rest of the burgers they offer are smash burgers (single for $10) and the quality of the meat and buns are excellent. That is a very good price for this burger. We tried the cheese fries, too, and they were very nice. They are ordinary looking fries with house made cheese melted throughout them. For $8, you get a huge pile of them and plenty to share. They weren't extraordinary but they were still very good. The sauce is not incredibly flavorful but I liked it well enough. You will probably wait a while after you order so settle in. There was almost no line during our visit (mid-afternoon on a Sunday) but they take their time preparing your order. For quality food such as this, I am fine with it. The line for Howlin' Rays was relatively short and I was tempted to ditch my burger dreams for chicken but I am glad I didn't. These burgers are legit.

LOVE!! NO NOTES. The most perfect burger so good! I normally miss the veggies in the burger if there aren't any but this burger was soooo good that it truly did not feel needed. Also the French fries. Fireeeeeee. I prefer them plain and they were perfect. All the girls working are so friendly and nice too. Wish I lived closer. The only thing is the space is v small and harder to get a bigger party together.

Fancy classic. oasted Sesame Bun, Classic Thinly Smashed Patty, Provolone Cheese, Caramelized Onions, Garlic Aioli.

A pretty good meal here! I got the single fancy smash burger, and it was good. It came on a toasted Sesame Bun, Classic Thinly Smashed Patty, Provolone Cheese, Caramelized Onions, Garlic Aioli sauce and it blended together well. The garlic fries topped with Garlic Confit Oil, Fresh Garlic, Parsley, and Garlic Mayo was very good and tasted fresh and hot! I wanted to add bacon to my burger but NOT for $5 dollars. That's way over price for bacon on any burger. Customer service was ok. This location is right across from the famous howlin rays chicken in the same building the far east plaza. You can actually take the metro and exit chinatown and walk 2-3 blocks and you're there which is nice.

So many reviews of Amboy having the best burger in LA.. let's just say the hype is real. I came to Amboy during the work week and the line/wait time was long (I think most regulars order online for pick up). As for the food let's get into it: - Amboy Burger (7/10) We ordered this with the dry aged patty. Really good burger but wasn't worth the $30 dollars or whatever it was. - The Fancy (10/10) We also ordered this with the dry aged patty, but a much more elevated burger. The garlic confit mayo with caramelized onions was the best combination, def one of the best burgers I've had in California. - Chili Cheese Fries (7.5/10) Delicious, but I probably wouldn't order again. Overall a great experience. I wouldn't want to do that wait again so I'll probably order online or come 10 minutes before they open. Would I go again? Absolutely!

I'm honestly surprised this place is ranked among the top burger spots in the country--it's way overrated in my opinion. The price wasn't bad at around $14 for a burger, up to 21.00. Unfortunately, the burger itself just didn't live up to the hype. The beef lacked flavor, the sauce was good but nothing extraordinary, and the grilled onions were just okay--and there definitely weren't enough of them. The burgers look much better on Instagram than they do in person. After waiting in a long line, it was a little disappointing. Seating is also extremely limited, so be prepared if you're dining there. We also ordered the garlic fries, and they barely tasted like garlic. They were more like fries coated in a mayonnaise-based sauce. The fries themselves were thin, crispy, and cooked well, but they simply didn't deliver the garlic flavor we expected. Unfortunately, they had already run out of the chili cheese fries, so we weren't able to try those. Given we got there 1:45 they ran out. Overall, I don't think I'd come back. For me, this is a burger that's all hype. It wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't worthy of all the attention it gets. See my photos of the burgers we ordered.

OHBOY, AMBOY! If this is not the tastiest, juiciest affordable QUALITY burger in LA then I don't know what is. Service is always friendly and willing to give recommendations! Cute little plaza also, go shopping for some books, a thrifted jacket, or even some dim sum?? Or how about another delicious burger from Amboy? Haha.
