The elote and duck pasta was different for sure but just felt really heavy and meh overall. The zucchini bread tastes just like banana bread and I think that's the reason we liked it. Also noting for any bigger and taller folks out there that the indoor seating is very cramped and the tables are kinda short and might not fit your legs lol. For casual dining, I give this place 4 stars. We were seated in the back patio, where they had transformed their parking lot into a makeshift outdoor seating area left over from the COVID years. The service was great. The food came promptly, and the server checked on us frequently. We ordered a variety of drinks, but they were all just okay. The food was a mix of hits and misses for us. The zucchini bread with whipped ricotta and salsa macha was a surprisingly great combination. Fun flavors and cozy atmosphere! Came here with a party of 7 for dinner. For parties over 5 or 6 you have to contact the restaurant directly and it was super easy to get a reservation. There is a small indoor seating area and then a larger area outside with additional seating. We were super comfortable sitting outside and there are heaters to keep you warm. The drinks were good, but took a bit to come out as it was a busy night. The margarita and paloma were very good! We ordered 11 dishes and were encouraged to share. All of the flavors of the dishes were amazing and had a great balance of Italian and Mexican flavors. We ordered: - zucchini bread x2 (smaller dish) - spaghetti fritti x2 (smaller dish) - aguachile (smaller dish, would have ordered x2) - chorizo y clams (easy to share, order extra bread if you have 2+ people) - elote agnolotti (easy to share) - huitlacoche cacio y pepe (very earthy and unique flavor) - chile coloradito cavatelli (easy to share) - chicken and mole (easy to share) - carne asada (easy to share) The standouts for me were the chile coloradito cavarelli, aguachile, and chorizo y clams were standouts for us! Despite the dishes being easy to share the portions are a bit on the smaller side and with some of the dishes that came with bread or tortillas, they didn't offer us enough for our entire party, so we had to ask for more bread to go with the clams. Not a big deal, but wish they would have encouraged to place additional side orders of bread (which was soo good btw). Since it was pi day they had two special desserts that were super tasty! One was a peanut butter + chocolate pie, and the other was a banana pudding type of pie. Ideally, it's a good spot for a party of 2-4 in my opinion. Came here on March 23, 2024 and I picked a great day because Telemundo was filming a story on this place and I made the video cut. But that's not what's important, the food is. So, let's begin this overdue review. The evening was started off with a pistacho horchata and zucchini bread. The horchata was non-alcoholic and while it sounded great, it didn't taste like either pistacho or horchata. Feel free to skip this drink. The zucchini bread paired very well with the ricotta but for me, this was more of a dessert than an appetizer. I had to compromise as the other party did not like the other appetizer choices and we were sharing everything but the aguachile. Next came the aguachile with the pasta tostada. This was quite a large appetizer for just one person. I had read mixed reviews on this dish and while I enjoyed it, I feel the flavors could have shone through more. The yuzu and pomegranate could have had a bolder taste but instead they failed to provide that citrusy oomph. I nibbled on the tostada to try it but I predominantly ate the dish without it. The next dish was the elote agnolotti. All of the reviews say this is a must try. I do not like street corn, but I listen to my fellow elites. This dish was very good and reminded me of a somewhat similar dish at Hippo. IFYKYK. The medley of flavors paired perfectly well. Definitely recommend ordering this, even if you are not a fan of street corn. The star of the evening for me was the carne en su jugo. Chef's kiss and I wish I hadn't been sharing. The meat was so tender and every ingredient in this dish fit so perfectly for that perfect flavor combination. I will note the other party did not care for this dish; however, beef is not their preferred dish. I would go back just to have a dish of this all to myself. Lastly, the evening was ended with a tiramisu. Eh, this wasn't anything special but I didn't want to skip dessert at a place like this. Perhaps I picked the wrong dessert but I can safely tell you, you can skip this dessert and try something else. Many reviews have stated that this place is more hype and while I enjoyed the meal, it definitely was not one of the most memorable meals but it still deserves a five star rating for its overall uniqueness and presentation. If you're a foodie, this is a definitely a place you have to at least try and evaluate for yourself because of its unique fusion. Very small but they also have a cute patio and all is well decorated. I was called by this place's fusion of Mexican and Italian food. The food was good! It just wasn't...great. To start, the space itself is nice. A small indoor section with a large outdoor patio. Loved the decor. Also loved the service! My server was so attentive, knowledgeable, kind, and a real joy. The food was like some others have noted...meh. It's not that it was bad, per se...just didn't meet my expectations. Started with the zucchini bread which was sweet, and soft, with some great accoutrements. It was too sweet without the salsa macha on it. I've never started a meal with a sweet element so it felt a bit strange. The Margarita and Paloma were fine. Didn't taste the tomato water in the Margarita which I was looking forward to. The Paloma didn't taste any different than usual. The Noprese Salad was good! Loved how fresh the tomatoes were and the addition of nopales worked well. The Panzerotti was probably my least favorite. On the first bite, it gave samosa and I think that's just the dough chosen along with the potatoes. Chorizo and potatoes are very Mexican but the dish itself didn't have those flavors at all to me. The tomatillo salsa is what made it bearable. The Carne Asada was by far my favorite as it was tender, juicy, savory, and full of flavor. They need to give you more than one (albeit large) tortilla. The vegan options are amazing. The pop of flavor from the finger limes really is dreamy in the Elote Agnolotti dish. I love the pasta chips for the sweet potato ceviche, airy and lots of pockets to hold the flavor of the bright bite. My date loved the zucchini bread, it was buttery and lovely all on its own. They had a special salad of endive and candied pepitas that we enjoyed. We'll be back one day or order for pick up instead. Only issue is the tables are extremely close together (it was cold outside) in the teeny indoor space. I once ate out back which had way more room. Walked in early on a Friday night and got a two top. The food is a Mexican and Italian hybrid and completely works. This is a wine/beer only spot, not a cocktail restaurant. Below is what I tired: Fried Brussels - 4 1/2 Stars. Cooked extremely well, rich in flavor and great crisp to the sprouts. Spaghetti Fritti - 5 Stars. This is their take on an Arancini ball, but with spaghetti inside. Great flavors and good texture to the Fritti. Elote Agnolloti - 5+ Stars. Favorite dish of the night, this was insanely good. Fabulous pasta, rich elote flavors, all served in a tasty sauce. Duck Mole - 5+ stars. I'm not a big Duck person, but this was fabulous. Loving this cute little Mexican-Italian restaurant very much. Indoor seating is super tiny. There's an outdoor back patio that's partially covered. It was a little nippy on the night we were there and could have used a little more shared heat. Had my first try last week and I definitely want to come back to indulge in the other creations on the menu. Our server recommended that we get 4-6 shared plates for our party of 2. We averaged our choices with the following 5 and were pretty full at the end of the meal: ZUCCHINI BREAD - House made Pine Nut Salsa Macha, whipped, Homemade Ricotta - ooo, that pine nut salsa matcha was surprisingly spicy at the back end. Whipped ricotta gave a nice creamy saltiness and tempered the salsa. I would have enjoyed a little more char on the zucchini bread. Don't get me wrong, we liked it and didn't leave any leftovers. ARANCINI - Chicken Tinga stuffed Rice Balls, Mozzarella, Calabrian Tomato Sauce, Cilantro powder (GF) - think Spanish rice made into a ball, stuffed with a morsel of cheese, rolled in a hearty breading (curious if that was crushed tortilla chips) and deep fried. In my book you can't bread and deep fry anything wrong. I enjoyed the flavors and crunchy texture but would have liked the inside a little moister. INSALATA D'AUTUNNO - Endive, roasted Honey Nut Squash, Cameo Apples, candied Pumpkin Seeds, fried Requeson Sphere - delicious salad, that dressing is to die for. Because I'm a glutton, MORE requeson spheres please! ELOTE AGNOLOTTI - Our "street Corn" filled pasta, Finger Limes, Cotija, House made Tajin (V) - a little sweet, a little tangy, great al dente pillows of pasta. A little sweet corn foam around the edges might have taken this over the top for me! The use of Tajin was excellent. SHORT RIB - Braised in Barbacoa Spices, Mexican Crema Mash, Potatoes, pickled and grilled, Chayote, crispy Leeks - the short rib was braised PERFECTLY! The Mexican creama mashed pulled this dish together SO WELL! For dessert they were out of my first choice, the Horchata panna cotta, so we ordered the seasonal pumpkin pie. The filling was light and creamy and delicious but I'm not a fan of this pie crust. it was a rock hard and I had to work hard to cut it with my spoon/fork. Street Parking is your only option here. I am a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder, as well as an American Express Platinum cardholder, and I actively use dining credits associated with both cards. Because I needed to use my $150 Sapphire Reserve dining credit before the end of the year, I reviewed the very limited list of participating restaurants near Pasadena. Unfortunately, the options were extremely limited and, overall, unappealing. Due to time constraints, we chose Amiga Amore solely because of its proximity--not because the menu or concept was attractive. The pricing was outrageous relative to the quality and execution of the food. The restaurant attempts a Mexican-Italian fusion that simply does not work. As someone of Mexican descent who genuinely loves both Mexican and Italian cuisine, I found the food disappointing and poorly conceptualized. This was the kind of forced, overpriced fusion that is all too common in Los Angeles, without delivering on flavor, authenticity, or value. I dine regularly at high-end restaurants and have no issue paying premium prices when the quality justifies it. In this case, it did not. Had I not been using the Sapphire Reserve credit, I would never have chosen this restaurant based on the menu, pricing, or presentation. Even the photos and reviews online were not compelling. Let me preface this 1 star review that the food was great; maybe a bit salty at times but the variety and flavor of dishes were such a treat. The quality and presentation of each dish and in totality make this a place to objectively visit. But of course why the 1 star? Sadly it was customer service. Perhaps it was because of how busy the night was, potentially being understaffed or something else entirely. We came as a party of 4 on a busy Friday night and it slowly snowballed from there... Food/Dranks - 5/5 As stated above the food and dranks were fantastic. Generally small-medium portion sized that are meant to be gathered 2-3 plates per person and shared with the whole table. On this day we ordered: Sweet Potato Ceviche; Noprese Salad; Chorizo y Clams; Elote Agnolotti; and Chile Colorado Rigatoni. They forgot to put in our Al Pastor Pork Belly order, but twas okay because we were gratefully full. For dranks we ordered: Spicy Watermelon paloma; mocktails - I love Yuzu; and Aguachile. Our collective favorite dishes were the Chorizo y Clams and Elote Agnolotti. I personally enjoyed the variety of ingredients in the clams - pinto beans, lemon, butter, and homemade bread. And the elote was a fun take on a nice street food dish. I really enjoyed my spicy watermelon paloma - not too sweet but very flavorful. And who can hate watermelon? I did not try the I Love Yuzu but was told it was rather smooth. The Aguachile was a fun mocktail - tasted like those Mexican candies I would get from the ice cream truck as I came home from school. Customer Service - 0/5 I believe that customer service isn't marked on what you can do on a daily basis - i.e., pleasantries, filling water, taking plates quickly - but what you do in a challenging situations. The average 4 stars is enough to show that on an normal day Amiga Amore is a fine establishment. What sadly got to us is how they approached us when we inquired about any alcohol in their mocktails. Our party have an Asian background and thus 3 out of 4 of us are allergic to alcohol (thank God I'm not hah). While not deathly allergic, they are allergic enough to be affected by fermented drinks (e.g., kombucha). Symptoms include redness, hot/itchy skin, sometimes constricted throat, etc. After drinking about half of the two Agua Chiles, my GF and friend began showing symptoms. We asked our waitress "Hey is there alcohol in these mocktails? Because we are showing symptoms". She simply dismisses us without acknowledging their cases and states "No there is no alcohol in these mocktails. They are batch made. I'm pretty sure" etc. We keep pushing to better understand the drinks because this is obviously strange to experience these symptoms with no reason. She finally shows some sympathy but doesn't offer anything after that. Already a bad taste in our mouths. While we aren't deathly allergic to alcohol we wanted to make sure that if anyone else orders this drink, they're aware of its potential side effects (e.g., add a disclaimer on the menu). After 10 minutes of trying to figure things out (looking up ingredients and such) we ask for the manager because the waitress came off as very defensive and didn't seem to want to help. As a preface, the manager was very nice when he greeted us in. Unfortunately as we explained what was going on, he immediately became defensive citing that his wife makes the drinks and they can't have alcohol. Which can be and probably is 100% true - but fermentation can affect even the most sensitive. We found that the Apple Cilantro Shurb ingredient is the fermentation culprit - which the manager denied. We ultimately requested for the drinks to taken off our bill because our party couldn't enjoy them fully. I ended up drinking the remaining drinks because we don't like wasting food. The manager argued - why would we still drink the drinks? 1) We don't want to waste and 2) they'll throw it out anyways. I understand the argument but hey I still enjoyed it. The last bits that really tied everything together were 1) our water was never refilled; and 2) a staff offered to refill our chips but never came back. And when we asked to refill our chips - which they did not inform us of its additional price - it was an additional $3 on the bill. In summary, we didn't appreciate the defensiveness, the lack of care for our party, and gaslighting. We understood there's no alcohol but a person can't act like they know someone else's allergies. TL;DR - Food is great - Drinks are pretty good too; just watch for fermentation - Customer service is probably good typically; just don't question their food or drinks read more

Review I hardly ever visit Highland Park, but since I was in the area I thought I'd explore. I'd heard about this restaurant's opening via social media so decided to check it out. I came during the weekend, just after they opened and without reservations. There were no tables occupied except for a single person dining alone. We were seated right away. We were given the option of dining indoors or outdoors. My friend and I decided to sit indoors since it's been hot lately. Shortly after, our server greeted us and asked us for our drink order. We got the paloma and margarita. The server asked us if we read the ingredients and I assured him we did. I believe he wanted us to understand that these were not typical cocktails. We already knew this having a brief understanding of the restaurant's fusion concept and having read the drink descriptions. (The margarita contained "tomato water".) The same server returned and asked us for our drink order. We let him know that he had already taken our drink order but took this opportunity to put in our food order. We got the aguachile and two pasta dishes. This little blunder aside, something seemed off about the vibe of this place. The dining room wasn't busy and yet we kept noticing the staff (hosts, servers, manager/owner) visibly staring at my friend and I and clearly talking about us. It was apparent because every time we made eye contact with them, they'd stop and put on a fake smile or immediately look away. I've had bad dining experiences before but not one where there were so many errors or mistakes with the service that we couldn't help feel like it was done on purpose. Especially given their noticeable behavior. We were served our aguachile without the tostadas that came with the dish. When we asked for things, the server kept forgetting. As mentioned, they were not busy. It was all just so off-putting. The food was fine but the service and experience are what made this not enjoyable. Oh, and there were countless flies buzzing around while we were dining indoors. I could expect this outside but indoors? It makes this restaurant seem unclean. And the lack of ventilation/AC for such a small space was not pleasant. As stated, the weather here has been hot so you'd assume that indoor dining would accommodate for this. If you're dining here, hopefully you'll have a much better experience. I love trying out new spots but when it comes to experiences like this, this is why I'd rather stick to the spots in the areas that I know. read more

Must must must dine here. I've only had the brunch a couple of times but if dinner is anything like the incredible brunch I am for sure checking it out. I've tried all of the fresh baked pastries. I was excited to go but this was a miss for me. I just couldn't make sense of the fusions. Mocktail was almost undrinkably sweet, I found the agnolotti everyone seems to like too sweet and the flavors were just confusing, the sweet potato ceviche was just really strange with unpleasant mouthfeel, and the pork belly I was really looking forward to was a chaotic mishmash of drowned pork belly with an almost shepherds pie like vibe with pineapple. The server forgot the salad which was fine but left it on the check even though we never got it (we got it removed). In any case sorry to write a bad review but it was just not a good food experience. Cute place though. read more

We were so excited to try Amiga Amore as the Mexitalian concept sounded way too good to miss. It is a quaint restaurant in highland park that has both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff and ambiance are both very inviting. Much of the menu looks worthy of a try, so we decided to get a few things and do family style. At the moment they have a BYOB, but I love me a nice mocktail menu anyway, so I was intrigued. We ordered an I LOVE YUZU and an AGUACHILE mocktail. Both were good, the yuzu has a sweetness to it, but the aguachile was very refreshing with a nice hint of spice. I'd order this again. Now as far as food, we started with: Zucchini bread, GET THIS. It is presented as a loaf that you may cut in portions with house made Pine Nut Salsa Matcha, whipped homemade Ricotta. A combination you don't expect but it goes SO well with one another. This really shows the chefs creativity. Sweet Potato Ceviche, another must try. This was delightful in every bite and we paired it with their house made habanero sauce and I couldn't stop indulging in this one. The aguachile, unfortunately, this one was underwhelming. Fresh with daily caught fish, wrapped around with cucumbers, Serrano and a Yuzu koshu sauce, this dish was lacking a significant amount of flavor. The pasta tostada it was accompanied with was a true star, though. Noprese salad is very refreshing and enjoyable. The Elote Ravioli, what they're known for is what you'd expect it to be... knodworthy good. With a combination of the Mexican and Italian background, this dish really comes together. As a table we agreed this is better as a shareable dish that if it were to be eaten as an entree. The Huitlacoche cacio e pepe was not noteworthy. The spaghetti Alla chittara was prepared wonderfully but this dish also lacked flavor. Presented with a soft-boiled egg you can break over and mix in. You really don't get the taste of the black pepper, and was just bland. Black ink linguini was my favorite from the pastas as it had a wonderful kick to it and the addition of the Meyer lemon was perfection. I did think they skimped out on the lobster. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and everyone was extremely friendly and attentive. I think the restaurant has some room for improvement but they definitely have something going for them and you can really see the chefs are talented and put heart into their dishes. read more

Very cute place. The inside is small, and from what I can tell, loud. We opted to sit outside, which had a cute little tent, lights, and each table was set up nicely. Perfect for summer outdoor dining, even if the view isn't picturesque. Def get: corn agnolotti, zucchini bread, squash blossoms (order quickly cause they run out) I wasn't as impressed by the short-rib as I thought I'd be, and the salad was just ok. Tiramisu was pretty good. They have some unique fusions, but otherwise accommodate both Italian and Mexican food. Yum. read more

Interesting dishes with a lot of flavor. Highlights were the aguachile, a citrus salad special, and the watermelon highball. Portion sizes are on the smaller side, so if you are sharing with 4 or more, expect a just a couple of bites of each dish. We dined outside in the back tented area which was surprisingly cozy and hardly felt like we were outside. The meal was overall on the more expensive side - there is a 4% pre tax charge (you can ask to remove it) and a 3% fee for paying with credit card, which both factor in to the overall priciness. read more

The food was good - not... amazing and super great like I thought that it would be. I made a reservation for Valentine's Day and when we came, there was plenty of seating available. We were led into the back where there were a ton of tables and plenty of heaters. Our server was extremely nice and let us know about the special menu that they had in addition to their most popular items. Oysters 5/10: Oysters were cleaned very well! They already put their own seasonings and sauces on top of the oysters. They were slightly sweet and the sauces on top were pretty good. They were a bit on the smaller side - I think I've been spoiled by other restaurants that usually give us bigger ones. I wouldn't get them again. Aguachile 10/10: BOMB. BOMB BOMB BOMB. I wish there was more of it but hoooooly crap this was so good. It was perfectly seasoned and balanced and the pomegranate was so, so so good. I would absolutely order this again and would recommend this dish to anyone who is coming! Elote Egnolotti 6/10: It was good... Just not amazing. Especially after we had the aguechile, this was kind of underwhelming. I think that the concept of the dish was intriguing but it was as if they blended esquite into a mush and then stuffed it inside of a ravioli. It seems popular to the other reviewers though, so I would still get it if you're curious on what it tastes like, but I personally wouldn't get this again. Carne En Su Jugo 5/10: I mean it was good but... ? It didn't really wow me. Honestly, don't really have anything more to say other than I wish it was bigger. The meat was honestly really small and I ate the whole thing in less than 7 minutes. I was going to get another entree but I decided not to. Ague Chile (Drink!) 10/10: Literally so, so, so good. It's a mocktail but hoooooly crap was it good. It really did taste like an ague chile but... drink style! I would 10000% order this drink again. It was refreshing, and had the right amount of tang + fruit... Absolutely wonderful. I had a second one! My partner ended up getting a michelada. We ordered another entree but I forgot which one we got :( Overall, the prices didn't match the plate size. The portions were overwhelmingly small - we were nowhere near full when we left the place. 3 appetizers, 2 entrees, 3 drinks came out to over $185 including tax & tip. My eyes bugged out. I was super excited to try this place but I'm not sure if I'd come back if I'm being completely honest. An almost $200 dinner that didn't get either one of us full is just not worth it in my opinion. Just wow. WOW. Take a bow Amiga Amore. I was seeing a show at The Lodge Room and wanted some place near by. The white trash in me is happy i booked this place and did not really look at the menu. Not the best at looking at adventurous menus. What a treat. The presentation of every dish was a home run. Our server Rain i think was top notch, Thank you. Happy to have gone with folks that just ordered things and i just ate. We ordered: - Pistachio horchata (rice water w/condensed milk, pistachio and Mexican cinnamon): delish - Zucchini bread w/house made pine nut salsa macha, whipped ricotta: so good! - Sweet potato ceviche w/ginger leche de tigre, snap peas, serrano, avocado mousse with pasta chips: this was DELISH especially with the housemade habanero fuego sauce that comes with it - Elote agnolotti (street corn filled pasta w/cotija and tajin): a must, just delish - Cacio e Pepe: this was okay, you need to fuego sauce on top - Elvis pie (peanut butter and banana layer with a chocolate crust): this is super rich, tastes like a reeses, it was too much for us Parking: there's 2 hour street parking and you can park in the neighborhoods nearby. read more

My second time eating here. The food was tasty. Had the Arancini (chicken/cheese breaded balls), endive citrus salad, elote pasta and carne asada. All were full of flavor. Also very much enjoyed the strawberry negroni special cocktail which had a smoky flavor and real smoke revealed when the top comes off the drink at the table. Problem was the second one had zero smoke and little flavor. The server should have taken it back and brought it new one, but he did not. Food service is incredibly slow. Service overall is meh at best. Very little attention. Never asked if we were enjoying our main dishes or needed anything else. Also took forever for the check to be picked up. Dishes are pricey but the flavor for the most part is worth it. Biggest disappointment was that, in the reservation and in a separate message to the restaurant, I told them it was our anniversary. Both notes were completely ignored. Not running back. Seems this place may already be on the decline. If you do go, sit outside. Inside is insanely noisy and crowded. read more
