Thought the first time the service was a fluke, or we were just imagining it, but after the second time, there was no doubt. I typically never post negative reviews, like most, I just never return and tell everyone I know to never go there. It's just painful because I love ice cream and my husband and I go to dinner 3 times a week in this area, so we pass it all the time. And pass on it is what we do. Our experience is EXACTLY the same as many others. Hispanic girl taking the order, leaving out ingredients stated on the board that are included, then trying to upcharge for them. African American male in back shouting the "f" word when you come back up to the window because your order is wrong and then they slam the window shut. It's happened twice in the past 5 months after 7pm. Idk what kind of scam they are running out of this location, but I've never seen anything like it in Arizona. When you are wanting dessert and me being nice says "let's give it just one more chance" and him saying "I'll NEVER take you back to that place after what happened last time" says a LOT. read more

I came here for the first time tonight after driving by the cool looking store with an outside walk up. Their menu is full of so many options it's overwhelming at first. Since I love ice cream I had no idea where to start. The prices are higher than most but that's to be expected for a non large chain. Tip: there isn't a speaker to order so take some time at the menu board before getting to the window. You order there. I ended up getting a regular concrete pb cup and cookie dough. I first noticed that there isn't a lot for mix ins at the top. I think they all automatically sink to the bottom. It's mostly ice cream for the top half of it. With that being said, the ice cream is super creamy and fresh tasting. The employees seem friendly as well. I'd come back and try again. I really want to come back and try other options. read more

The seasonal apple pie concrete was not good. It seems like they only put the crust of the pie into the ice cream. I had a bite of crust, another crust bite and no apple pie flavor at all. It took literally two seconds to make and was very over priced at 7 bucks plus. read more

Dropped by Andy's when I was having a serious frozen dessert craving and left with my craving satisfied many times over~ The menu is quite extensive in regards to concretes, aka custards with different toppings and sauces mixed in, sundaes, cups/cones, sodas, and malts -- I opted for a concrete because I wanted something a bit more substantial than a sundae. I grabbed the Bootdaddy - aka Andy's vanilla or chocolate frozen custard blended with Oreo®, creme caramel and hot fudge. The small size was more than enough for me and honestly I could have shared it with another person quite easily. Pricewise it was $5.54 which was fair for the size and the amount of custard and toppings involved. The custard was good tastewise, definitely good enough to buy again. My heart is saying frozen custard but my waistline is saying for the love of god woman, drop the sweets. It's been over a month since we were here but I'm still dreaming of that turtle banana split. From now on, adding toasted pecans to any sundae or banana split is a must. We all loved our treats, they were great but my inner Karen must bring up the serving size issue with our James brownie funky jackhammer. We ordered a small but it was only 2/3 full. (see picture) What the heck? One of my pet peeves is getting ripped off on food I payed for, specially if it's for my kids. Other than the serving size on that one item, we really enjoyed our frozen custard. We were hoping to try the apple pie or key lime sundae but they are seasonal. I grew up on Culver's and being told frozen custard is superior to ice cream (and living in Arizona most of my childhood made that mindset very difficult since frozen custard didn't really take off for a while). Anyway, when I moved to my last apartment I was so excited to have not only a Dairy Queen but Andy's down the way. I will admit sometimes I couldn't resist the urge of a Dilly Bar but I 100% Andy's is better and worth the trip. You can get as creative or as classic as you'd like. I'd highly recommend their seasonal flavors as they are always outstanding. My two favorites are the blueberry chocolate in the summer and the apple pie Sunday during the winter. The walk up window is convenient and nostalgic on nice nights. The only issue is, due to it being frozen custard but is much more expensive than you're likely used to paying but it's truly worth it. read more

Had the Bootdaddy Concrete and a Chocolate Malt, I know it was hot outside about 105 degrees but it would have been nice to have the concrete a little bit more solid than it being liquid at the beginning. The Boot Daddy was suppose to be vanilla custard with Oreo along with caramel and hot fudge. I think they made something else because all i could smell and taste was peanut butter. Good thing I am not allergic to peanut butter like my daughter is. Soggy concrete, adding items that is not supposed to be in there, I asked the people how long they have been open and they said a couple weeks, but need to get their act together. I drove from 56th St/Bell Rd to Ahwatukee for a disappointment of custard concoction. Don't know if I will be back, too many good places around than to drive that distance for something that bad. I think the only other place I have had custard is Freddys and it was years ago so I don't think I can provide an informed comparison. With that said I do like Andy's. Creamy is really the only adjective that I can use to describe what I had. Good vanilla flavor that didn't taste like processed additive. It's a walk up window with no indoor seating which kinda has a nostalgic feeling to it. Lots of menu offerings but I like the simplicity of the vanilla custard. read more

When u are craving some dessert and don't want to overdo it there is no other place than Andy's for it. The location has a drive through and you could go in person and order too. The set up is very cute with red and white interiors. They had mist around so you could literally hang out over there and eat your custard. I ordered the original Straw- Ana, it was the first time I was trying the custard and I was blown away by how tasty it is. The banana and strawberry added extra flavor. I just loved the whole bowl and finished within few minutes. I would definitely want to try more before giving them a 5 star. They are worth it. We tried Andy's Frozen Custard for the first time and we were so impressed! We happened to be running an errand in the same complex and saw they have a drive thru window, perfect! Don't have to get out of the car in this blazing heat! The menu is very easy to read and follow. With it being our first time we had to get a vanilla cone. SO yummy! The perfect texture and a large serving! My husband, son and I devoured that thing! We also got an old fashioned cherry soda float. They had several flavors, I had to go with cherry because it reminds me of my childhood. This soda float was AMAZING. I got brain freeze because I couldn't stop eating it! Perfect balance of all of the ingredients and there were even chopped up cherries on the bottom! A nice little surprise :) The 2 young men that were working were very kind! This location of Andy's is a welcome addition to this time zone! Based on my wholly unscientific sample size of "Ozarks Turtle Sundae, 1", I can confirm that this franchisee has done the job well! This shopping center has both Andy's and Ezekiel's soul food, the parking lot of Ahwatukee Palms Plaza is now my favorite dining spot in town! I'm in town a few times a year on business, so I'm hoping it will be more often now. :) Having spent my college and post-college years living in Springfield, Missouri, I've been eating Andy's Frozen Custard since there were only two stores in the Home of Cashew Chicken and they were surprisingly close to one another. You'd often be able to talk to Andy himself, but everyone in southwest Missouri felt like you already knew him from the the radio commercials he voiced himself. (Whether this was a calculated or cost-cutting move, or both, was never really mentioned.) He would pay good money to educate the public on the seemingly boring topics like the legal, government approved definition of frozen custard and why on earth anyone would pay $20,000 MORE for a Ross frozen custard machine instead of a regular soft serve. He always made those commercials interesting because you could sense his passion for what he was selling and the people both selling and eating it. It worked. The people of the Ozarks responded with the same passion. Hundreds of thousands of people learned about "overrun" and how he used the most expensive pecans he could find. (Now the very first Ozarks Turtles used melted Kraft caramels instead of a sauce, but then again, they'd have to cost $10 nowadays.) When a new product was launched, you learned the history behind it. Famed Ozarks DJ Woody P. Snow was the creative force behind the Snowmonster. Then, there was the Stolen Brownie Sundae, the story behind Sprecher's Root Beer, the announcement that peaches were in season in the Ozarks, so they were once again offering the Peach Concrete as long as the harvest of local peaches held out. Those commercials forged a personal connection with the wonders coming out the window and gave birth to hundreds of thousands (millions?) of Frozen Custard Snobs. The passion for the product was ladled on as thickly as the hot fudge. Of course, even for the kids who didn't listen, they knew one thing...that Andy's was just better than plain old ice cream. Now, there are other frozen custard shops and franchises, but if it's not Ted Drewe's or Andy's (don't get me started on THAT), it's just NOT as good. A few years ago, someone opened a Sheridan's FC store in Las Vegas in a building that looked too damned close, but not quite to the familiar Andy's design. They weren't open yet, so I knocked on the window and asked "What freezer are you using?" His response..."Where are you from?" He clearly knew where this line of questioning was headed. I said "Guess" and he replied with "Probably southwest Missouri, and I'm guessing you're an Andy's fan. If not, you're from St. Louis." Yup, the jig was up. He proudly displayed the Ross freezer and told me that he looked into an Andy's franchise, but the distance from the distributors made it too darned expensive. It was good. He even had Sprecher's Root Beer for awhile, but it just wasn't quite right. Obviously, no one should eat frozen custard on a regular basis, but if you're going to spend the calories, you want it done *perfectly*. I don't know if the same commercials run now, but for the folks in Arizona who don't know the difference, allow me to provide a crash course. 1. Frozen custard is ice cream, but few ice creams are frozen custard. The FDA requires frozen custard to have at least 10% milk fat and 1.4% egg yolk. Anything less is just plain old ice cream. 2. Ice cream can have as much as 100% "overrun" or air mixed into it to fluff it up. I don't know about you, but I get all the air I need when I breath. It's FREE! I sure don't want to pay some frozen dairy purveyor for it. The special, expensive (and now, custom made for Andy's) continuous freezers only whip about 15% air into the mixture and that's incidental to the freezing process. The air is not intentionally added so that you can pay more to get less product. 3. The higher milk fat and yolk content let the product freeze at a higher temperature than ice cream...so, you taste it better at 18°F than ice cream at 10°F. Unfortunately, that means it's also closer to the melting point. Yes, it melts quickly in the summer heat in Arizona, but it's almost as bad everywhere else, too. Everyone driving down Sunshine St. in Springfield in July is fighting the drip from the cone, too. Everything at Andy's is more expensive because....it's worth it. read more
