We walked right into the cool and cozy no-frills donut shop and was greeted by the friendly staff. She even threw in a few delectable donut holes. I got a cake donut, but my companion got a regular glazed. I'm pretty picky with my glazes, which is why I default to cake when trying new donut places as most classic glazed donuts are pretty stale by the afternoon. But to my surprise, their classic yeasty glazed donut was incredible moist and not too overly fried. This is the mark of an excellent donut shop. We were looking for a little something sweet, so asked for a lemon jelly donut. I pointed to another big one and asked what it was. The woman behind the counter tongue-tied herself trying to say "crumb-coated cinnamon roll" and laughed which was extremely adorable so I had to get it. And yes, they gave a couple of surprise donuts which we didn't know was a thing. Everyone is tense and crabby these days (for good reason), so such a small move can really make someone's day. And yes, all of the donuts were excellent and fresh! I normally wouldn't order a cruller because they are always chewy and flavorless. Now I get it! This might be one of my favorite kinds of donuts now! I'm going out of my way to buy donuts from here in the future.

I have read about Grand Mission Donuts & Bakery recently and frequently get my Lattes from Linea, one bock away. I went this morning around 9:30am and there was a short line (4 in front of me) but the petite Asian lady was by herself behind the counter BUT was very friendly and efficient/fast! With 4 people in front when I arrived, I only had to wait a few minutes (3-4) before it was my turn. It is a very small place with limited seating but the glass case where the donuts, pastries were displayed was very neat, tidy and CLEAN! I asked for a a Apple Fritter but she was apologetic and said they were already sold out :( I saw bear claws (one of my favorite pastry!) and got one try as very few donut shops make them or make them well. I really like it!! It had a toasted almonds on top, was a large in size and had a nice light crunch on the outside and the filling had the right amount, not too much or too little. I especially liked that it was but greasy or oily. I highly recommend Grand Mission Donuts & Bakery and can't wait to try the Apple Fritter next time!!
