My husband and I had two dinners at this location within a pretty short period of time. This branch is convenient for us as it is only about 20 min away from our house. We also were pretty happy with the service and the food the first time, we decided to come back. During those two visits, we ordered pretty much the same thing with small changes. We ordered a catfish basket the first time and tried the cod fish basket the second time. The catfish basket was definitely our favorite in comparison to the Cod. We felt that the cod was not seasoned well and was lacking salt in particular which brings me to a very good point, why is there no salt shakers on any of the tables?? We also ordered shrimps. In both times, we chose the trifecta sauce, mild, but the second time, they were flexible and accepted to offer that to us with the shrimp boil as I am trying to avoid dairy (the regular sauce is a butter based sauce). Between the two, really, butter is better! We also always order corn. It also tasted better when it was in the butter trifecta sauce. This time, my husband decided to try their Angry Edamame. I didn't try any but my husband said they basically use the trifecta sauce on it and he said it was pretty good. My absolute favorite order here is their fried calamari. It is always crispy, fresh and seasoned perfectly. We always enjoy it very much. Our server in both times was Lita! She is very attentive and is always close to her tables without being annoying. Her service was excellent! I always say to myself that I will order trifecta with extra garlic the next time and I keep forgetting. One thing I love about a competing restaurant is the punchy flavor that is always spot on. We come 2x a week to this location and love their lunch specials. We promised our daughter to come here after she had to get 6 shots at the dr. We arrived at 2:20pm and they said it would be just a minute. We asked the manager if she could still honor the lunch specials since we arrived with plenty of time. They sat us at 2:57 and said that they couldn't honor the lunch! The manager came back over and said "oh I misunderstood, now it's 3pm" We are absolutely disappointed and will no longer return here. So, I guess I should have researched this one a bit more before opting for delivery. I was really craving seafood, but the Southern boil style caught my eye!I had never been to an Angry Crab Shack, nor did I understand this was nothing short of the REAL deal. The delivery (via Grubhub) was relatively quick! Definitely less than the estimated hour. And, while it wasn't bad at all... I probably won't opt for this again. It was actually more of a pain than assumed, and I'm still a little freaked out. First- I don't suggest you opt to pay for extras. It isn't worth it. I felt like $1.00 extra for two SMALL (size of a golf ball) red potatoes was a rip off. And $1.50 extra for 1 corn on the cob. What irked me was paying for a side of cornbread. That teensy little DRY piece was a disappointment. Thank goodness a packet of honey was included- made it slightly more edible. And, I'm not sure how long that melted butter sat out, but it tasted rancid. Want clam chowder? Don't get it from here. Minimal clams & a questionable "lumpy" consistency that solidified pretty quickly into what looked like glue. But- the portion was not small for the cost! It was definitely enough to serve 2 or more. Let's get to the crab. I'm born & raised Alaskan, so I actually KNOW what GOOD seafood is. And, I'm never too eager to find that down here in the desert. Not wanting to spend too much, but not wanting cheap snow crab- I settled in the middle for the 1-2 lbs of Dungeness. Figured it would be a couple clusters & some claws. Well... I got the ENTIRE CRAB! Holy crap! I mean, it was a surprise. Not a "bad" one. But- I cannot get over the sad face of the crab. I really cannot get the face out of my head, now. I'm deleting the photos as soon as I post. But what is worse than receiving the entire crab in-tact... having absolutely NO way to crack that sucker open! Cheap scissors do not cut it. You'll take a finger off attempting to knife it. Beating it w/ a hammer makes a huge mess. Pliers? Also no bueno. Couldn't find the dang nut cracker we used over the holidays. So... I'm kind of left with this sad faced crab in my fridge now. Moral of the experience: dining in is probably a better idea for this one. We normally patronize and Angry Crab Shack that's further away from us. We learned through a delivery app that we actually have one closer! That's it! Easter dinner is served! Non-traditional to say the least! The menu is a bit pricey, but we wanted to have an array of different items to share. At $3.99 a bowl, the clam chowder had good quantity and was decent. It was a little peppery for my taste, but was a creamy, filling addition to our meal. I didn't taste a lot of clams in there, mostly potatoes. However, the soup tasted hot and fresh. The menu available for delivery is a bit different from their normal in-store menu. That said, many of the items that you have to get are either fried or grilled. Mr. P ordered some fried oysters. For the price, you get six tiny fried oysters, which was a bit disappointing. We also ordered the clam strips. Now this quantity was impressive. They were a bit overcooked though, and called for a little bit more chewing! A creature of habit, I got my favorite alligator nuggets. These were extremely salty, and a little bit difficult to eat. About half of them didn't seem fresh, and were chewy as if they were twice-cooked. The accompanying french fries were also very salty. I don't know if everything was put in a bag with salt and shaking up together, or what. I don't think that I was prepared with the drinks necessary to wash some of that sodium out of our mouths. Not only was she super friendly and personable but also very hard working, she was constantly checking up on us and quickly corrected our order that was missing a lobster tail. Once our food was brought out, the employee named Jessica asked " do you work at ___ with ____?" my friend and I promptly answered yes Jessica then continues " well tell _____ she ain't shit, (or she can eat shit)". proceeding to slam her serving tray on the counter and walk away. Second chance review! My first time here wasn't the best. I gave it an honest review. They reached out, asked to be given a second chance to show that they were better than my experience. Well, my wife loves shrimp and this time she is beaming with smiles! She ordered the shrimp boil, sausage, corn, potatoes. She couldn't be happier! She is thrilled it's enough to eat a second time. I once again ordered the double burger, cajun fries which I loved the first time as well and I'm still happy. I appreciate them reaching out and letting us know they can cook! So, I normally like this place. Sometimes it's really enjoyable and sometimes it is a bit less tasty, but still ok. Today, I ordered mild, and the shrimp were spicy to the point of burning my mouth, which I don't think makes it taste good. But my stomach really can't handle it at all. These I did not finish. I tried, because I'm exhausted and these are my only dinner option. However, when I called, the manager said that there was nothing they could do because the spices were pre-measured and calculated, and that some pepper was just like that. I understand the issue, but I always order them mild. It goes from 1-6. Wouldn't a person reasonably expect a 1 to not burn their mouth? I could have driven them back to be remade, but I don't have the energy. I'm that tired. I was not looking for a refund, as my husband ate his, and I had half of mine. But I hated them, it's going to burn, and this difference in how they normally taste means they are inconsistent, and that should warrant at least a discount or partial refund or something related to customer good will at least. She was giving me the cold professional response that probably assumed I was making it my mission to scam them out of profit. I paid 58 dollars for two meals, so I think it's fair to want them to be what they've been. I would think they'd maybe want the good will. I will say I definitely overestimated the spicy level as level 2 didn't really taste like anything. I tried someone else's level 4 and it wasn't too bad, had a bigger kick but definitely manageable if you have a higher tolerance. The only reason I gave it only three stars is because when we phoned ahead to ask about reservations but the lady answering the phone didn't bother to mention to us that they were all out of King crab legs. So if King crab legs are your jam, I recommend you call in advance to ask. When we arrived and were seated and ready to order, we ordered King crab legs and it was then that the waitress told us they were all out. Instead she recommended we try the queen crab legs. They were less expensive but much, much smaller. She also suggested the snow crab legs. We saw another party order them. They were really small. I'm glad we didn't. One of the problems with crab legs is that they require a bit of work to crack open to reach the crab meat. We don't mind with King crab because there is a good portion of crab meat to be found. Not true with queen or snow crab legs. After all the work cracking open the legs there is little crab meat to be found. Later the waitress let slip that they did in fact have king crab legs but the manager was saving those for customers willing to order the much more expensive combo bag dinners running about $140 per person. Very disappointing. So be sure to phone ahead to see what is no longer on the menu. read more

Ordered two pounds of shrimp, sides if potatoes and sausage; a pound of snow crab and sweet potato fries for take out. The shrimp was over cooked when we got home, the sausage wasn't as flavorful as other seafood boil restaurants we've tried and for the price I don't think it was worth adding on, potatoes were potatoes. The sauce was good not as spicy as we thought it would be, we could have gone up another level or two so if you like spicy go up a level. Let me tell you we did not waste no time we ate it as soon as our waiter put it on our table. We got a pound of shrimp head on ( one with just lemon pepper and the other with all three sauce.) honestly the three sauce is way better because the lemon pepper was to light for me. I've only experience Angry Crab one time prior to my last visit. The Tempe location. I was NOT a fan, didn't like it at all actually. Everything was steamed entirely too long so it was just a bag of mushy, salty seafood. Fast forward to my last visit at the Mesa location, I'm singing a different tune. I thoroughly enjoyed every single thing I tried. Between the four of us we ordered a pound of snow crab legs (trifecta style - Lemon pepper, garlic butter and hot). We enjoyed a pound of shrimp with the heads off (also in trifecta style), we tried corn on the cob, no potatoes or sausages, Catfish Po Boy and chicken tenders for a kids meal. The kid in my our party liked the chicken tenders so much that he ordered a second batch of the chicken tenders only because he thought the fries were generously seasoned (His 11 year old words, not mine :) The Catfish Po Boy was super good. There were so many pieces of catfish on the roll that you probably could have created a second sandwich. It was slightly breaded a little heavy so we took so of the breading off and enjoyed the Po Boy that way. This time both the shrimp and crab legs were steamed perfectly. Not too long, not too quick. You can always tell of shellfish has been steamed too long by how hard it is to remove the shell and keep the crab or shrimp in one piece. We had no issues here! We'll definitely going back to Angry Crab sometime soon. read more

The waitress did bring us extra sauce, which made it edible. I had fried shrimp, which was forgettable. The best thing on my plate was the fries, and I don't like fries but at least it had flavor. If you don't like spicy this place may not be 'for you', but the 'Angry Crab Shack' is certainly 'for our entire family'. We loved the hot steaming bags of shrimp and mussels. Our little guy destroyed a cheeseburger from the kids menu. This restaurant is a sister to the one on Alma School. And just like the other restaurant I got my bag with new potatoes and corn on the cob. I just love rolling the cob in the trifecta sauce and slurp biting the corn off. The Angry Crab Shack is a delicious place to eat, but there are some reasons to only come here under certain conditions, First, the food took forever to get to our table, and our table on the other hand wasn't cleaned to its best before we were seated. Most of the food came out fresh and cooked well, but their shrimp is one of their entrees that aren't cooked very well. Beware! Our family visit of seven (Sun., 5/16) was a birthday celebration, but the first-time experience was disappointing. Seven people, at a cost of $480 (average $70/person) with an "unearned gratuity of 18% (inclusive)", was "the price we paid." The food was mediocre, the clams undercooked (many unopened), corn on the cob soggy, and the entrees overpowered with oil. Staff service, starting with the maitre' d refusing to seat 5 of us until the other two arrived (we waited outside), came across as abrupt and unpleasant. Our table server was somewhat "vanilla" and less-than-friendly, appeared bothered by our menu questions, and forgot to place a portion of our initial order. After 25 years of annual trips to Mesa, this was the worst restaurant experience I've had. I won't go back! (Amended) I've changed my review based upon senior management (Dawn) notifying me on the actions she took to correct and improve the issues I (and my son) raised. Her response was immediate. Ordered 2 lb king crab, a side of potatoes, sausage and corn. I felt the weight of the bag and it felt very light. I got home and busted out my food weigher scale and the 2lb crab was only .7 lbs overall. Not even a pound! We paid $30 a pound- 60 for two and didn't even get a full pound. This was our Valentine's Day dinner and was looking forward to it. I called the store and spoke with manager- I felt it was justifiable since we got shorted. I really really appreciated her wanting to take care of it right away and even tried to look for the receipt. I commend her for that. The only issue was the inconvenience. We had to drive back for the other pound of crab legs and our food had gotten cold. I still felt hungry even after the second bag and was suspicious if it was a pound again. For the meal to be $100 for a small bag of king crab legs and a few potatoes and small corn cobs. It just definitely was not worth it. It really felt like I could have gotten so much more for the price. We go to nice sushi or steak restaurants and don't even pay that much and have an abundance of food. I upped the star for the really helpful manager, I'm sure she tried to make it right, but just can't get past the experience. This was our go to spot for valentines day or crab cravings. After going to many other Angry Crab locations, this one impressed the most. We went today (Christmas Eve), with hardly anyone there, no wait and friendly greeting. Our server, Barb, was fabulous. She was prompt, friendly, and checked on us just the right amount. Unlike the other locations, she brought all of our tools, bibs, bucket well in advance. We had all of our food within 15 minutes of ordering. Awesome. With this location serving BBQ, they also have sides that the non-BBQ locations don't carry, like mac and cheese. This thrilled us, as our toddler doesn't like the fish or chicken strip options of the kids meals but he LOVES him some mac! It was flavorful and different with crumbles of some kind. The hush puppies are amazing, as are the Cajun fries (as always). Our table split snow crab, shrimp and vegetables in Trifecta mild (1 spice). It still has a kick and is such a tasty sauce. This location has a MUCH better vegetable variety, they give you more and actually cook it properly (always limp or hard/raw elsewhere). We also noticed that they double bag for the steamed items, which keeps away the gooey mess. As usual, if going for the crab boil bags, be prepared for a fun mess and have lots of napkins handy. Use the sink on the nearby wall to wash up afterwards. Ask for forks if you get veggie bag. The only slight negative was being offered shrimp with no heads but not being told that it was an upcharge. It actually added a lot of flavor to have it off, as the sauce had a place to seep in. We look forward to heading back to this new location.
