OVERVIEW: A casual-cute, family-owned Vietnamese restaurant in North Austin serving up giant bánh mìs, delicious pho, fun drinks, and matcha soft serve! Everything we tried was delicious and I will definitely revisit. A great lunch spot to fulfill any of your Viet cravings. Everything is fresh and made to order. The matcha soft serve was my favorite, but everything was so tasty! QUICK FACTS: - Parking? Yes, giant shared shopping center lot. - Reservations? No, casual spot you can walk in. If you have a large party you can call ahead. - Takeout? Yes, you can order to-go. FOOD & DRINK RATINGS: - Crab rangoons (4/5): Hot and fresh - a classic! You can't go wrong with these. The dipping sauce is perfect. Shareable or you can just eat them all! - Pork bánh mì (5/5): Loaded and thick in the best way. The pickled veggies are so good! Beware of the raw jalapeños that add a spicy kick. The fried egg add-on is $2 and recommended, but personally I could do with or without. Definitely shareable! - Beef pho (4/5): Pretty solid pho. You can choose up to 3 meats for the beef option. They also have chicken, shrimp, vegan. Great portion size and bowls range from $15-$17. - Matcha soft serve (5/5): So simple but so good! A little pricy at $7 but worth it. The sweetest finish.

I'm impressed with their Banh mi's especially the chicken and pork one! It's filled with extra meat and the pate is so good. It's on the pricier side for Banh mi's compared to other Vietnamese bakeries but it's worth it for the meat and toppings! The service was quick and the ambiance is very chill! I'll have to come back to try the pho.

What can I say about this spot! It's perfection, everything you want for your Vietnamese fix. We found this spot through Instagram and the server said they seem to be a bit busier. I was craving a banh mi and this is my first one to find in Austin. It was PACKED and flavorful. Just the right amount of veggies to meat ratio. I will say the bread is so crispy, it tore up my mouth a little bit lol but that's when you know it's good. We also shared the crab Rangoon which were delightful. I want to come back for pho season!

This is only my review for their banh mi since I didn't order anything else. We came on a Wednesday night relatively early so it wasn't super crowded, the server and the whole restaurant staff were super inviting and answered any questions we had. They were also super patient with our table when it came to ordering since you know how it is to get 4 girls in one place at the same time. Anyways, I ordered a limeade and the grilled pork banh mi. The sandwich is probably the largest banh mi I've had in Austin so much so that I had to take the other half home, it was packed with Pate and probably one of the best banh mi's I've had in Austin. Will definitely come back to try their pho since it's conveniently located in a great area of town!

I really like that they give you the drip cup for the coffee. A lot of places I've been to have everything pre mixed. Coffee is strong and just the way I like it. Started with the pork Bao and dipped it in chili oil. Chefs kiss. Very yummy. Pho broth was good and didn't need to add anything to it. The noodles might have been a little over cooked bc they fell apart. Might have just been a bad batch. Also had the grilled pork rice plate. Sauce was great, veggies were fresh, but the grilled pork marinate was a tad too sweet for me. Decor is cute. Service is great. VERY attentive, welcoming and nice. Bathrooms are clean!

We got the Banh bao w grilled tofu, beef pho, banh mi w grilled pork, matcha soft serve. Overall, good but honestly, coming with a viet background, I think the flavors are not necessarily traditional. Pho was the most flavorful and I enjoyed it. It is solid pho, but not necessarily special or the best. The buns were unique but tofu was slightly too salty. The banh mi is probably a pass for me next time. Too much veggie and the meat cut is not the traditional thit nuong (grilled pork) used in banh mis. It seems they reused the pork usually used in vermicelli bowls. The banh mi itself- the bread was very lacking. One of the best things about banh mi is the soft but crunchy bread itself. Bread is super flat. I think these Banh mis were made with the thought closer to american sandwiches which are a lot more stuffed. However, sometimes less is more. The matcha soft serve is good. I'd get it again. I probably won't be back, but I am glad I tried it! Service was great! Parking is spacious. Restaurant is clean. Plenty of tables.

While shopping at the comic store next door, I literally stumbled onto Anh Em by accident. It is located on West Anderson Lane, tucked into a strip mall near Hop Doddy's. While I planned to have a late lunch with my brother, I decided to grab something quick at Anh Em (according to the store manager Anh Em means brother and sister in Vietnamese). The interior of the restaurants evokes calm and serenity with stark white walls. The restaurant has simple tables and chairs with minimal wall art. Phở, bánh mì, vermicelli bowls...the classics are featured on the menu. Anh Em appears to be the type of place, that you can sit for hours to do work or homework. It has the flare of a casual neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant, the kind of place that becomes part of a routine. I ordered the Vietnamese Spring rolls filled with shrimp and lettuce wrapped in clear rice paper. The first impression...fresh, flavorful and soft to eat. The shrimp rolls came with a peanut sauce. This was not your typically peanut sauce...it was thin liquid with a light peanut taste...so good! Stylish dim lighting, soft music playing in the background and an appealing menu ...the winning formula at Anh Em

I'm on a personal mission to find my one-stop-shop Vietnamese spot in Austin. I hate cheating. I don't want to bounce around town for different dishes. I want to be committed to one Vietnamese spot. I'm talking a veggie + fried tofu pho loaded with vegetables and swimming in a rich, flavorful beef broth; fresh Vietnamese spring rolls served warm with *BOTH* THAI BASIL AND MINT INSIDE; and a proper Bánh xèo AND Bánh hỏi served with a generous dia rau sống/raw herbs and veggies plate that doesn't have me begging for refills/begging for more. I haven't found "the one" yet... but Anh Em Vietnamese Kitchen is a solid option for now. The veggie/fried tofu pho? Good. Comforting. I liked the addition of snappy snow peas. Portion size is a bit smaller than your average Vietnamese spot, but it still hits. I swapped in beef broth for the vegan pho (yes, I'm that person) because I love the collagen and flavor, but this beef broth STILL needed more flavor. Now I HATE OVERLY SALTY PHO, so I respect the restraint with the broth here...but this swung way too far to the other side. Bring it back to the middle and add a little salt cause we need the balance. The spring rolls were SO CLOSE to perfection. They were fresh, served warm with GRILLED meat, and filled with Thai basil, but I was quietly begging for mint to be added inside, too. That Thai basil + mint combo flavor matters to me when it comes to Vietnamese food. The peanut sauce, though? No notes. Perfect consistency, a nice tang, and exactly what it should be. Now... there is no Bánh xèo or Bánh hỏi on the menu. That hurts my feelings. Not a dealbreaker, just a gentle nudge: please consider adding both of them. I just know you could do it. Bottom line: this is not my one-stop shop, but Anh Em is absolutely worth being in rotation. I've got my eye on the bánh mì and that matcha soft serve next time. ***ALSO*** consider adding a strong Vietnamese iced matcha with condensed milk to the drink menu and I'll really stop playing around. 4 stars for now. I'm rooting for you.

This place was sooooo cute! I loved the ambience and the artwork on the countertop. They sold little art prints from local artists as well. I ordered the iced Vietnamese coffee and the Arnold Palmer with jasmine tea. I recommend both, but the jasmine tea Arnold Palmer was game changer. So refreshing. The pho dac biet was okay -- I feel like the broth could have been deeper! The com suon was tastier. I loved their nuoc mam. John was our waiter and he was so sweet.

A good banh mi in Austin is hard to find (especially at a reasonable price point), but I finally found one off W Anderson! The bread is crispy, grilled meat had ton of flavor, a hint of pate and all the pickled veggies, although I don't recall the jalapeños. Regardless, the sandwich slaps. The Chicken Vermicelli was also fantastic. Fresh flavors, same grilled meat with some fish sauce to drizzle on top. Do yourself a favor and check out one of the best banh mi sandwiches in town.

We came here for lunch during their soft opening and were excited to see a Vietnamese restaurant open in the area. I ordered the pho dac biet ($17). It's definitely on the pricier side, but that seems to be the going rate for pho in Austin these days. I mainly wanted to see how it would compare to other spots I enjoy like Pho Phong Luu and 1618, and it held up well. The broth was rich and flavorful, and it included all the traditional toppings like tripe and tendon. While I probably wouldn't drive across town just for the pho, I'd happily order it again if I were in the area. Overall, it was a solid bowl. Unfortunately, the shrimp rice plate ($17) was the complete opposite experience and honestly ruined the meal for us. It surprisingly didn't include an egg, so we added one, bringing the total to $19. The dish that came out was extremely disappointing. The shrimp were very small, poorly seasoned, and there were barely any vegetables. Even with the added fried egg, the plate looked sparse and the flavors were very bland. It didn't resemble the kind of balanced, flavorful Vietnamese rice plates you typically get elsewhere. For nearly $20, the portion and quality were really surprising--especially for a new restaurant during a soft opening. The dish was so unsatisfying that we actually ended up grabbing Wendy's afterward. If I were rating the dishes individually: Pho: 4.5/5 Shrimp rice plate: 1/5 I'd definitely recommend the pho, and since then, I heard that the restaurant has plans to rework the shrimp rice plate so hopefully this dish is better now.

I've had three excellent dining experiences at Anh Em since it opened - two for dinner and one for lunch. It was quick to get a table each time, but I suspect that won't last - seems like word is getting out about this spot... In terms of entrees I've had the Rice Plate and Vermicelli Bowl. Friends have tried the Banh Mi. Reviews all around have been excellent: rich flavor, fresh ingredients, and particular appreciation for the chicken. The steamed bao buns are also incredible, though perhaps not quite the portions you'd hope for a $10 appetizer. The Viet Arnold Palmer is to-die-for, and we so appreciated the complimentary matcha soft serve for my twin and my's birthday. The staff is all very friendly, and I love supporting a local business like this! I tried to go for the fourth time on Sunday and learned that they'd cleared out their ingredients for Saturday meal service and had to close until the evening to catch up - seems symbolic of where this spot is going!

Glad the choice was made for us -- the ube was perfect on its own. Also happy we skipped the toppings since the creaminess really came through. I also ordered a Heavenly Hash (one of my favorite ice cream flavors BTW) and a Naughty and Nice because I am all about the classics. They were both outstanding. No leftovers. Yes, you feel your cells expand and pants tighten and it is for sure run club pre and post, but quite worth it. These divine donuts have that cakey interior I love so much. We had the Puddin': cream cheese icing, vanilla pudding, fresh bananas with nilla wafers. According to the menu. Ours didn't have any nilla wafers and the presentation was uneven, hence the four stars. I didn't miss the wafers. The icing and pudding were one goopy topping and the bananas slices were half scattered slices and half banana chunk that I had to separate. Side notes: Gourdough sits on a corner with parking spots that are not free. There's a pay via QR code so you'll need a phone or something to scan that. Boo for digital shackles. There was a series of singles getting doughnuts and they were a little done up for the occasion. Who knows. What looked like a traditional milk toast dessert, was literally four pieces of stale bread, toasted and stacked on top of each other. that tasted freezer burnt with lots of sauce on top. No topping between each layer so it was not flavorful or tasty and all you could taste was a weird chemical flavor from the bread. Same thing with the ice cream, so freezer burnt that it tasted of chemicals, cardboard, and didn't even melt despite sitting on the plate for 15+ minutes. The Taro tea itself was fine with the crème brûlée topping, but the brown sugar Boba had the same chemical "going bad" flavor to it. It was super hard and bitter tasting instead of sweet.
