    Strip mall storefront.

This is a high quality sushi joint and I picked up a couple of party trays from here. It's mostly a carryout shop though there are a few bar seats facing out towards their storefront window. Surprisingly, this unassuming looking shop had 5 sushi chefs working behind the counter at 11:15am on a Saturday morning, so business must be good and brisk here. I can now see why as the sushi was fresh, top quality, and delicious. They are also situated in a very convenient strip mall location, just a few feet from I-94 Eden's Lake Street exits.

The homemade chicken gyoza is excellent ! Great sushi! Fast service and very friendly! Their sushi is very fresh! I'm always looking for sushi on the go ! This is the place ! I live in Chicago and I can't really find a good place to grab and go! I heard about this place from my clients. So I was in area and I decided to try it! It's really amazing ! Please try this place and support this business! I will definitely come back! So glad I finally tried it!

I've been told by a few people about how Ao Sushi is a top tier low-key sushi spot in the north suburbs of Chicago. It's pick up and delivery only. I suggested ordering online as the pick up time for us was about 45 minutes. We ordered and picked up which I was actually thoroughly impressed with the spread already. The Dragon Balls had a nice light fried rice flavor blended well with the spicy salmon, but the spicy salmon was not holding up in their packaging unfortunately. The Godzilla roll was top tier and well assembled. The caterpillar roll had a nice crunch and the spicy salmon roll was good quality but average tasting. The Spicy Tuna special roll was creamy and light. Their nigiri is unreal and has the proper amount of fish to rice ratio. Most of the items will be repeats for me.

Top to bottom: eel cucumber roll and North Ocean

This place is pretty affordable and good! Ao sushi showed they closed at 7:30 pm online, but they were still able to take carryout orders at 7:15 pm when I called. I ordered the North Ocean (salmon and avocado) and Eel with cucumber All together I had 16 pieces of sushi for ~$13 and it was very worth it for the freshness and amount of sushi I got. The salmon/avocado pieces were pretty big, so that roll pretty much filled me up. The salmon was fresh, the avocadoes were perfectly ripe. The eel roll was good too! The eel sauce was on point and the cucumbers were crunchy. Everything tasted as expected and I was very happy :) One recommendation I want to make is to use the soy sauce with less sodium. It is much better with the sushi because the saltiness of the original soy sauce pretty much overpowers the sushi. Now onto the atmosphere and restaurant environment. I loved the service during pick up. The workers were very friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere was just very calming and nice. You could basically see the sushi chef making the rolls and even the fish that he used. Everything seemed pretty clean. The other thing I really appreciated was that I could take my own chopsticks, napkins, soy sauce, and soy sauce trays. I loved having those options available to me! I'm glad I found Ao sushi. If I'm in this area again, I will definitely come back!

Had AO Sushi in Wilmette, IL for dinner tonight. It's takeout only and hands down the best sushi I've had in the Chicago land area. The fish is just so damn fresh! And the rice doesn't have that overly vinegar taste that other places sometimes have. It's very decently priced, we ordered 6 rolls for $70 bucks including tip. Dare I say, every roll is a 10/10.

Not that great. Fish quality was poor. The vegetarian roll was decent. Service was poor.

At the end of our meal he turned to me and said "it either used to be way better here or maybe the restaurants in the burbs have just gotten a lot better over time." Our meal last night at Pescadero was just A-OK. Our waiter got the job done, but wasn't overly helpful. Ex: he asked after we put in our entree if we wanted anything else and we decided to throw in some oysters. He then told us he didn't know if he could get them out before our entrees since he already put in the order. Well he asked, didn't he? When we asked if the east or west coast oysters were meatier his response was "they are all the same here." They get a star for having Riesling and it was a pretty tasty one. We had very unexciting shrimp cocktail and oysters for our apps. I would skip both next time, which is sad for a seafood & oyster bar. For my entree I got the scallops special. According to my last review from here i loved the scallops. These scallops (served with risotto) were enjoyable, but would probably order something else next time. And my husband said his salmon was just fine. I love a good seafood & oyster bar so bummed this didn't live up to our past meals here, but it's a nice atmosphere so was still a nice Sat evening out in downtown Wilmette.

Very insightful. The food was so delicious. I came in for lunch and order their combo lunch specials. The dishes oozed with flavor and were all moist and tasty. This review is for a private celebration party event that I attended here.  It was held in their…read moreback party room, with the back being by the mall entrance.   It was a very nice venue for the event and the space was at its capacity for our party of 49.  There were 3 tables of 12 and 1 table of 13.   The wait staff did a nice job of taking and keeping track of drink orders, and attending to the tables in general.  They also kept the space quite cool on a hot evening.  The menu was comprised of drinks (beer/wine) and a family style meal of 4 courses, including dessert.  Each of the courses was in turn comprised of 2-3 selections.  For example, chicken marsala, penne bolognese, and pan seared salmon were all provided as part of the Entrees course.   The Antipasti course was truffle potato skins and roasted meatballs.  The Pizza and Salad course included a house salad, a truffle mushroom pizza, and a burnt pepperoni pizza.  The Dessert course was bomboloni (hole-less doughnuts with sauces) with an option to order other items like tiramisu or brookie skillets from the regular dessert menu.  This place partners with Celebrity Chef Fabio Viviani and like all of his many restaurants, the quality of every dish here is top-notch and delicious.  The bill is also top-notch, lol, and that is also typical of Chef Fabio's places, but you do basically get what you pay for, and that includes the atmosphere, and it's all satisfying and delicious.  This menu and event ran about $100 pp all in and that covered both the menu and the use of the private room.   One of the servers, I think her name was Emily, was really good, attentive, and efficient, and she was one of those who could take 10 separate drink orders, and come back and find you in the crowd!  She in particular was really nice to have around and she made a difference. As far as the rest of the restaurant, it's a busy, vibrant, and loud place.  The fairly lengthy dining space is kind of compartmentalized into different sections, and there is a full bar both in the middle of the restaurant as well as in the back where we were by the mall entrance.  There is also an open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant.  The second bar in the back really is needed for private events.  They also have a small patio area by their mall entrance.  It looks to be a fun date night kind of restaurant.  Overall, I'll go with a 4.49 star rating rounded down to 4 for our private event with the main knock being that it's all on the somewhat pricey side, but also very good.

Woof - what an "almost great" experience!…read more I really wanted to love this meal because the sauces were delicious. I ordered the limone pasta with shrimp and requested replacing the angel hair with a thicker pasta (linguine). My husband ordered the truffle gnocchi. Unfortunately, the kitchen made the change to the wrong dish. Instead of changing my pasta, they replaced my husband's truffle gnocchi (the signature part of his entrée) with linguine, while charging full price for the gnocchi dish. That was a disappointing mistake that should have been caught before the food left the kitchen. My shrimp add-on was also a disaster. For an extra $7, I received five shrimp (plus one stray shrimp tail), which works out to about $1.40 per shrimp (the rogue shrimp tail was an unwanted bonus). On top of that, the shrimp were served with the tails still on. Having to stop and remove shrimp tails while eating pasta really disrupts the experience. Shrimp pasta shouldn't be finger food. The frustrating part is that the food itself was genuinely good. Both sauces were flavorful and well-executed, and I think this could easily have been 5/5 if the order had been prepared correctly. Better attention to detail in the kitchen and more reasonable shrimp portions would have made all the difference.
