Love the convenience of this place. It is located right along my way to work and they have prepared plates of sushi ready anytime. They are inexpensive but in no way like the ready-grab sushi plates in the groceries or warehouse stores. These are fresh and they taste great. Not bad! Pricing is moderate, sushi is good though not amazing or innovative. You can stop in for a quick fix of prepared rolls (including ones made with brown rice apparently) kept cold, or order some fresh (much tastier). Very quick and convenient, with a friendly staff. Love this place! It is a sushi deli. There are items here that no one else has: rice cake confections, Japanese sodas, sushi grade cuts of fish. I especially love the location which is right off the Edens and across the street from Gordon in Wilmette. If your going from south to north you can get off the Edens. This is basically fast food sushi. If this was a sitdown sushi restaurant I would give them 2 stars. Freshness and quality is similar to grocery store sushi. Prices seemed good until I realized you get 1/2 the fish at 3/4 the price of most sushi places. Rolls are some of the smallest I've seen anywhere. Also apparently they don't know what white tuna is because my Chicago roll had all deep red tuna and was supposed to be 1/2 white. I can't see myself going back unless I'm in a real hurry. read more

I love this place and always run in to grab a sushi deluxe box or 2 to bring home. I know they have a large selection and its all good but I'm usually in a hurry or rushing the kids somewhere so I get the pre-made stuff. We tried the dragon and pyramid roles. The dragon had eel and eel sauce on it. It was very good but the eel was a little fatty. The pyramid was our favorite and it had creamy spicey mayo and shrimp. The mayo combo was surprisingly good! Though it was very creamy. read more

i know that when i come here i get great quality and a delicious meal. The fish is always fresh and there is also a wide variety of sushi to buy. There is pre made boxed sushi and then you can also order custom platters and trays. The prices in comparison to other take out sushi is not really too much more expensive. For the few dollars that you more you get a better meal and i think it is worth it. The service to make custom sushi is always friendly. They also have a wide variety of whole fish , asian food products and also japanese soda. I have come here for sushi since i was a little girl and NEVER had bad sushi, service, or cleanliness. I ordered spicy tuna roll but instead got spicy salmon roll. I ate 12 pieces of this crap and everything was salty. The rolls weren't even sticking together. Never again will I order from this place. If you want good quality rolls eat or to go from the restaurant next door. I think it was aoki Hana. read more

This place has great quality of fish, good rolls and is very reasonably priced. For $50, three of us overate and we tend to eat a lot especially sushi. We mostly bought the basic rolls and at times they were a little bit boring, most of them are spicy. I found their soy sauce though to be extremely salty. Since we do not live in the neighborhood, we ate in and the seating area was very limited. Overall, satisfying and we plan to return when we get the sushi cravings mainly because of the freshness of the fish. read more

The Sea Ranch is without a doubt one of the best kept secrets in all of Chicagoland. I have not been in a sushi restaurant in Chicago that has fish as fresh and well prepared as this. This is a great local sushi joint. The service is fantastic, the cashier is extremely helpful and nice. The store was recently re-done so it is very clean and they also have a small selection of Asian candies/foods as well. The sushi itself is fantastic as well, a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you're ordering for dinner, just make sure you order early because they stop accepting orders fairly early. read more

We get take out sushi here several times a month and have never had a bad experience. Their small "party tray" is the perfect size for entertaining a few friends for a "girl's night", and at under $40, It is a real bargain. Our favorite special rolls are the white dragon and Hawaiian roll and their spicy tuna and California rolls are the kids's favorites. read more

Have done business before with Sea Ranch...they can get whatever I want given enought time...I once bought a $790 chunk of Bluefin tuna from them (I know, I know....I've stopped using Bluefin!). But I like their sushi...fresh, clean, simple to exotic choices...not cheap, but you never want to eat cheap sushi unless you have a personal relationship with your toilet. I know it's only a veggie roll, but they make the best futomaki ever...the correct ingredients, not skimping or missing any (a proper futo should have oboro, kanpyo, picked carrot, cucumber, shitake, and tamago....there should be no spinach, imitation crab, or avacado). I usually go before noon to avoid the lunch rush and to get the best pickins, because I don't order ahead, I just go there and buy what they've already made for the day/hour. Easy in and out. And like someone else said, it's more like a sushi take-out deli, they only have one or two tables to sit. That's fine with me! I can even buy plain uni there! And if you feel adventurous, you can buy all the necessary items (nori, cooked and seasoned sushi rice, fresh fish/seafood obviously, and all accourtromants) to make sushi at home. Or at least try....I don't go to the Sea Ranch in Evanston because of sparse and metered street parking, and, of course, because of the Evanston meter-maid parking Nazis. The sushi was fantastic! The fish was absolutely fresh, and they put quite a bit in the roll I ordered (I've been to too many places that skimp on fish in their simple rolls). Ordered online around 4:50pm on a Friday, then waited like 10 mins and went to pickup the order got there like 5:10. Apparently they send an automated email to you after you pay online that has the expected pickup time. My order placed before 5pm was scheduled for 6:17pm! I figured this out when I had already started over so I thought I would just go anyways since a lot of reviews say they're quick. I got there and sure enough they said sorry we won't have your food until after 6. I said that's got to be a mistake because that's an hour and a half for takeout. Nope no mistake. I see a family in there filling out an order sheet and asked loudly if they would be standing there an hour and a half for food, they said no not really but maybe like 30 minutes 'because we're busy'. Baffled and upset I said just cancel my order because it's ridiculous that I'm told there is a one and an hour hour wait for takeout After you take my money online. Without batting an eyelash they said fine; no effort made to help. This is what I got from them, I'm sure the reviews that said quick were true too but I guess it's just luck of the draw. However if it's already busy at 4:50 then I don't know when it would not be. It is not magic sushi and not worth 1.5 hrs for takeout. Go to Roka Akor or Blue Fin. If it's going to be 1.5 hrs at least tell people that before you take their money. read more

We are always happy to eat here...some great sushi and at a good price point. We don't exactly live on the West Coast, where sushi is guaranteed to be good, so we were happy to find this place when we moved here (thanks to a Japan scholar colleague). I know this little sushi joint as SeaFood Ranch; the short of it all. Out with former name, went the food. The portions are smaller, prices have jumped and at time the customer service is rude. While waiting for my food the manager was giving an employee their performance review. Everyone in the store could hear and it wasn't a glowing review. I used to love this place and it was very convenient to get something to eat for my kids. I still shop fish here. There were good Mexican sushi chefs in the past, and I was very impressed how sushi became universal for anyone to make. When the good chef was off-day, the taste of rice was different, and texture was a little off. After the main chef was changed, things has been declining. It looked like the assembly line of sushi makers, and there was inconsistency in taste. I have lost interests in buying sushi for a while after my daughter felt bad after eating Hotate sushi. However I bought one recently for quick dinner. The taste was disappointing and worse than slightly-off level. It was as bad as sushi from grocery store. As if the sushi vinegar was added after the rice got cold which is a BIG NO for sushi rice. I hope the owner re-evaluate what they are doing since they said they would improve the quality and service. I may try the one in Evanston if Sea Ranch is still there. I may find my favorite chef who left Wilmette to Evanston branch. read more
