I never reviewed this place? I thought I did. Hands down the best "Smashed Avocado" I've ever had. The owner (pretty sure he's the owner) Kendu even has his own catch phrase! He says, "Kendu can do it! *thumbs up*" and that was so awesome to see in person. For $4.25, you get a cup of deliciousness. I ordered one for myself and 2 for my parents to bring back to the East Bay. Because I mentioned I would be bringing 2 to go, Kendu mentioned they have a to-go option, which is separating the shaved ice to be added on later so it lasts longer. Genius. He carefully packaged the drinks, sealed them up boba style (putting the cups into the machine to seal them), and then putting the shaved ice in separate bags. It has been years since my first review and it seems appropriate to update my comments now! They have a decent selection of che dessert drinks and a few options for traditional milk teas and smoothies. I tried their dragon tea which is a 50/50 blend of Thai tea and Jasmine milk tea. It's a creative twist to the traditional offerings of milk tea. I've also had their honeydew milk tea which was okay - the drink was mostly ice and I scarfed it down within a matter of minutes. They advertise rice plates on their menu but it's crossed out once you get to the store, which is pretty disappointing. I decided to try their sandwiches instead. The cashier heavily vouched for the shredded chicken sandwich so I assume it's their specialty. The baguette was not toasted throughout, so while the exterior was crispy, the inside was soft and cold. The shredded chicken had a microwaved texture to it, and that was pretty cold as well. The vegetable toppings inside included the usual jalapenos as well as diced (not sliced) carrots, daikon radish, and red onions. The carrots and daikon radish were hardly pickled, and they also heavily coated the bread with soy sauce, which overpowered the other flavors. I never been to heaven but this flavored drink gave me a glimpse of it hahaha. I met the owner, Linda, and she is such a kind and genuine person. I asked her how she made it but she told me it was a secret of course lol. For $4.75, the cup consists of chopped avocado, milk, ice, and various jellies (think halo halo style jellies). Wow, just wow. Perfect sweetness, amazing textures, and if you love avocado - this is for you. I've been craving this every day since I had it. It's located in an asian plaza that's more swayed to the filipino side than anything. I don't think Aroma is even run by Vietnamese as the food and styling screamed Filipino. Small tea shop right across from Seafood City. There's a few seats but I usually take my drink to go. There's hardly ever a line and the drinks always come out quickly (less than 5 minutes). The costumer service is usually good, however, whenever I ask when the Pandan Pudding drink is coming (it says "coming soon" on the menu), they reply with "I don't know." I've tried the jasmine milk tea, cassava halo halo, and the smashed taro. Their milk tea I'd pass on, but this isn't the place you should come for milk tea anyways. Their ché is where it's at!! The cassava halo halo is pretty good but not my favorite. The smashed taro, however, I would drink EVERYDAY if I could. The taro is fresh and sweet! The jellies add texture and more sweetness to the drink. If you like your drinks less sweet you can ask for less sugar! Overall, this is one of my favorite places to get ché/halo halo! read more

I got the opportunity to try this place and I was so glad that I did. I did not even know that they were even located where it is now. To my surprise that there was this whole Filipino mall tucked away right off of Landess. Now I have only tried the Smashed Avocado drink, which was fantastic so I can't give it a full 5 stars just yet. The Smashed Avocado drink is a unique drink. It isn't completely blended like how I am used to having it, but this one has huge full pieces of avocado, pearls, jellies, ice, and coconut milk. This was to die for. It's a small shop located inside a plaza/ shopping mall complex. I've gotten their Vietnamese sandwiches (always get it with the fried egg, the extra cost is worth it) and though it's more expensive than their competitors, it's still really good. The main star of the show is the smashed avocado drink though. Within it is coconut milk, tons of avocado and other types of jellies such as rainbow, boba, and Pandan. Topped with a scoop of shaved ice. It's not overly sweet and the amount you get is huge. In my humble opinion, it's a better deal than milk tea and so much yummier. No nonsense, delicious asian dessert drinks. Smashed avocado has a pretty thick consistency but has the good avocado flavor in it. Some asian places have "avocado shakes" but it doesn't taste like avocado at all! So i'm glad this place keeps the authenticity of the avocado. The thai dessert drink was my favorite. This is a review of the "Special Smashed Avocado Dessert-Addicting-4-sure" aka Bo Dam dessert listed on the Aroma Coffee & Snacks website. I've heard a lot of good things about this cold dessert so I was pretty excited to try it. Also, I should mention that I'm a HUGE fan of avocado. It's my favorite fruit!! :) The dessert was good but it's something that I could make at home. Actually, I've been making this dessert at home since I was a kid except without the jellies and pearls. As a kid I used to love eating this stuff. I would call it "avocado soup" because I would get a bowl, fill it with chunks of avocado, add milk, add ice, add about a teaspoon of sugar, mix it all up, and eat it with a spoon! So yummy!!! Anyway, I expected this dessert to be a little more special than what I was used to having all my life. I've also had the Bo Dam at Bambu and this version at Aroma Coffee & Snacks is different in consistency. Bambu's Bo Dam is thicker and more smoothie-like. I would have to say that I prefer the Bambu version even though I believe it is a little pricier. I would get Aroma's smashed avocado dessert again though if I was on the go and craving something similar to my "avocado soup." Even though the dessert is good, I still think a couple improvements could be made... 1) Provide a longer than normal spoon so that I can easily reach the deliciousness at the bottom of my cup 2) Don't make the shaved ice at the top so hard Oh yeah, the really big pieces of pandan jelly in this dessert are awesome too! However, Aroma's is more of a drink (more liquid/milky, can consume using solely a big straw), while Bambu's is more of a dessert (very thick consistency, need a spoon to eat). Smashed avocado: Delicious! The drink isn't too sweet and I love the little chunks of avocados. Their jellies are made fresh hourly, so you're guaranteed fresh ingredients in every cup! Chicken wings: Tried the atomic and lemon pepper. It's not as oily as wingstop :) I definitely like the flavor of the lemon pepper a lot more than atomic. Atomic was spicy and sour, but not in a good way. The owner is very personable and nice! Very disappointed! They don't have grilled pork in the menu anymore so the owner told me to try their best selling chicken sandwich. So, I did! The Aroma brand is growing in popularity. There's an Aroma cafe on McKee near Independence High School that isn't too bad, and I heard ownership eventually moved to this location at the Seasons Marketplace. Unfortunately, I don't find it to be that great. They've added all sorts of things like chicken wings and pho to their menu, but neither of these are that great. The clerks also recommend the burger on their menu--it's tasty, but honestly, if I wanted a burger, there's a Jack in the Box and Burger King across the street. The banh mi sandwiches here are pretty pedestrian, and they take forever to make. Lee's Sandwiches is better than this place, and that's quite disappointing considering it used to be better here. I really enjoy Aroma when it comes to their drinks and their sandwiches. However, some of their rice dishes have been hit-or-miss for me, especially the crispy roti chicken meal. In fact, I was downright disappointed with their crispy roti chicken since it was very bony, not very tender, and included what I believe to be the neck of the chicken. As for the sandwiches and drinks, I have not been disappointed and keep coming back for those. The sandwiches are simple, yet satisfying to me. I often opt for the grilled pork or BBQ pork and will add a fried egg when I am in the mood for it. The veggies in the sandwich are always fresh but at times seem rather cold (feels like they may have come from the fridge but definitely not from the freezer). Their drinks seem to be on the sweeter side, but I find that quite endearing. I recommend trying the smashed avocado, as it is a rather novel and tasty concoction that Aroma is known for. Also, one other precaution: when ordering a sandwich or a rice combo, you should explicitly state which you want. One time, I thought I was ordering a BBQ pork rice combo with an egg but was actually served the BBQ pork sandwich with an egg. It wasn't a big deal and there's bound to errors in communication now and then, but I hope you can avoid the same communication mishap. read more
