We went to this restaurant for the first time while my mother-in-law was visiting, and she is an extremely picky eater (limits types of spices, sauces, foods, etc.). We had a late lunch, during which she happily gobbled up the meatballs appetizer; she even scooped up all remnants of the tomato sauce on the plate with the garlic bread, a telling sign of great Italian food! We also ordered the La Bomba Pizza and Gnocchi Gorgonzola. The pizza was a good size for 3 of us, in which we had a couple leftover slices considering we ate the entire delicious pasta dish. Good crust on the pizza. Fabulous texture and flavor of the gnocchi and white, cheesy sauce! Absolutely phenomenal service. The food came out amazingly fast! At one point too, my mother-in-law and wife talked incessantly with one of the employees behind the counter, and he had a ton of knowledge on the menu, history of the restaurant and the owner. They had a tall shopping rack with various, shipped-in, quality Italian foods such as Tre Marie Pandoro, Lavazza coffee beans, and foreign types of Kinder chocolates. Been here a few times for takeout. Easy enough to find off Monserrat but parking can be tricky as the lot is small and people frequent various eateries. I love that there is an online ordering option (always will prefer this). Years ago we ordered online and the restaurant didn't receive it so boo no food, but since then we've had success and much more positive experiences. Street parking is available in the neighborhood, especially on Leahi Street , so walking a bit may be an option. Initial visit, I ordered takeout online - they have their own site. I got the special of the week: Penne Tutti Formaggi, penne pasta with gorgonzola sauce. Side portions of grated parmesean and chili flakes are provided. It was good, better with the parmesean and chili. On my second takeaway online order...got their lunch combo. Pairs a pasta dish with either bruschetta, salad, or dessert. They offer a dinner combo, which is different in that options are available. We came around lunchtime and although Aroma Italia itself wasn't busy, there was only one parking stall left in the Diamond Head Center parking lot so definitely keep in mind that parking is limited here. Service was a little slow, and it looks like they are short staffed (who isn't?). If Yelp would allow half ratings, I would give a 3.5 -- we were excited to try out this restaurant from the reviews that we read, but weren't very impressed. We ordered the Arugula Salad, Funghi Pizzetta, Linguine Pink Scampi, and the Lobster Mezzaluna with Pink Sauce. Out of all the dishes, we enjoyed the pizza the most - this alone would be a 5/5. I tried Aroma last week with some friends before a concert at the shell. It was packed I think because of the concert. People were circling the small lot for a parking spot too because there were many customers for the next door acai place. But my friends said that if you come here on a normal night, there are open tables at aroma, so maybe the parking lot situation is better too. We waited about 30 minutes for a table (they had lots of reservations, even though the reservation process is kinda weird). Aroma is byob, so make sure to bring a good bottle of wine. They provide extra glasses and a cork and I don't believe they charge a corkage fee. We ordered the bruschetta for an appetizer. It was just ok imho. I'd try something else next time. I ordered the clams and mussels appetizer as my entree. It came out with the bruschetta, which I understand, but it was a little awkward to have my food come out before everyone else's. The clams and mussels were delicious though and the sauce was light. I think next time I might get the seafood pasta. I tried a bite of butternut squash ravioli and it was good, too. We ended dinner with tiramisu. It was possibly my favorite dish of the night, very light and airy, but full of flavor. The service was friendly and they did their best to accommodate everyone there before the concert. There were basically two front of staff people and I'm not sure how many people in the kitchen. They did their best I think and they were very nice. The inside is a little hot and a bit more casual than a fancy Italian restaurant. The parking lot was full the entire time we were there, so be prepared to look for street parking if you come on a busy day. This is one of the better Italian places on Oahu (there aren't that many), so I'd suggest checking it out if you're searching for Italian food. read more

I've come to Aroma Italia several times the last 3 months since my discovery. We enjoyed the first few times we came. Everything was cooked well and the service was attentive and friendly. More recently, we came in during lunch time and it was slow service even though we were the only ones dining in. I wanted to update to 3/5 stars because both our pizzas were burnt. The whole bottom of the pizza was black and very crunchy. It felt odd to me that they would just serve burnt pizza like that. We were so hungry by the time the food did finally arrive and didn't want to send it back so we just tried to eat it. Lots of leftover burnt crusts. Our server went MIA for awhile, and another server later came to give our bill. She asked about our food/service and she was apologetic (even though it wasn't her fault). The service was good and I didn't wait too long. Everything was made to order and I love their garlic bread! The garlic bread was reasonable so I added it on to my build by own pasta. I'm a more wine sauce pasta person and not with heavy cream or tomato sauce, but I do love baked spaghetti and lasagna. I decided to try something similar to the La Bomba pasta. So I create my own, although it can add up! I got the cheese tortellini, whole fresh burrata and meatballs in mushroom marinara sauce. It was delicious with a lot flavor. It was filling and brought I home to share some with mom. I did try the cannoli dessert. Cream filled pastry was okay. Not as flaky but next time I'll try the tiramisu dessert! I was in the mood for pizza and we couldn't decide on where to go so we went on Yelp. Donna O posted some photos of Aroma Italia's menu and I contacted her about the restaurant. She said they were good and that the Garlic Bread was as yummy. She sold me on the place so we went to check them out. I called in a phone order for take out and they quoted us 20 minutes. They are located between Health Bar and Oak Monsarrat which is across from Pioneer Saloon. They share the same parking lot as Bogart's Cafe. We arrived around 5pm and scored a stall right in front of the restaurant. The parking here is usually full so be mindful of that. There is a lot of street parking around the area if the lot is full. The restaurant is cozy and was about 25% occupied when I arrived. I immediately walked to the cashier who greeted me and told her I had a phone order. My order was a Pepperoni Pizza grande, a Linguine Pescatore and Garlic Bread. They were still working on it so I paid and was told to wait outside. I did see them finish my pizza as I paid though. Aside from dining inside, they have two tables outside that seat 2 people on each table. The cashier brought out my order as promised. It was longer than the quoted 20 minutes, about 35-40 minutes. On the drive home, my mouth watered as I was starving at this point and the food smelled good. Garlic Bread (4/5) - toasted well and the bread had pieces of garlic on it. It was perfect soaking up the light marinara sauce from the Linguine Pescatore. Great recommendation, Donna O! Thank you! Pepperoni Pizza (3.5/5) - we live only a few minutes away but the pizza was luke warm by the time we got home as it was finished first and sat till all the other items were finished. I think the crust would have been crunchier/crisper if it didn't sit in the box so long. The box was soggy on the bottom when the cashier handed it to me. Taste wise, it was still good. It'll probably be a lot better right out of the oven. Linguine Pescatore (3.5/5) - there was a good amount of seafood on top of the pasta. I found an unopened clam and wasn't sure if I should finish the pasta after a few bites. After looking on Google, I decided that I could probably eat it all and not get sick. I have a pretty strong stomach so I chanced it and tossed the clam. Unfortunately, there was a lot of broken shells in the pasta. Flavor wise, it was quite good. Overall, solid 3.5 stars. Flavors were pretty good. The only cons were the broken shells in the pasta, the unopened clam, the slightly soggy pizza crust and the longer than quoted wait time. Their lunch prices seem quite reasonable and better value. It's probably best to dine in or ask them to make the pizza last if you order a bunch of items so it doesn't get soggy. read more

I came here for a late lunch with my coworker a few months ago. We were both pleasantly surprised at the diverse menu and offerings at Aroma Italia. There is a great range of entrees to choose from, as well as lunch specials. The specials looked up my alley and I did a combination of salad with their vegetarian pasta. It was filling and so delicious. The food is made to order and so plan for around an hour for lunch if you want to dine in. Parking sucks but that's not their fault. So come early and scope out the parking lot and neighborhood streets for some parking. The food was warm, filling, and it's a cute little spot for an upscale business lunch or a catch up date with a friend. I believe they might be BYOB as another table near us was enjoying a bottle of wine. Shout out to our waiter. The young man was extremely friendly & nice. We arrived just as the restaurant was to opened. We placed our orders, as time ticked by . . . Our waiter notified us they were working on a large catering order so our lunches will take a bit to be made (No fault of our waiter) he was extremely apologetic about the situation. He even brought us an order of garlic bread at no charge (BTW, perfectly toasted & seasoned, light and fluffy on the inside), Time continued to tick by (around 45 minutes), he came back to apologize again and offered us desserts following our meal. Small store, slower service (just one employee manning all the tables), and small parking lot. The Caesar salad was great. Fresh and crisp and the dressing, like everything else, is homemade and delicious. The pizzas were delicious. They had so much flavor. I will say, we added chicken to one pizza and I think we counted 6 or 7 SMALLEST cubes of chicken I've ever seen. Not worth adding on for that portion size.
