So the breakfast buffet is amazing, Included in the price are nice fresh, HUGE omelettes. It is a huge spread of food, from cereals and muffins to eggs, pancakes, potatoes. Everything you could imagine for a very reasonable price. The reason this place is getting 2 stars is because of our dinner visit. We arrived and were quickly seated, the waitress brought us our beers and then disappeared for a while. When she came back,we ordered the bbq shrimp appetizer, it was decent, very different tasting. We ordered salads which were good, but had little to no dressing on it. By this point in our meal, our beers and waters were empty, our waitress would walk by our table and not acknowledge us. Finally our dinner came out. I was very underwhelmed. $42 for a steak, it was small and served on top of potatoes. The steak was bland and fatty. We didn't finish the whole meal, because at this point, we were still waiting on refills, and were quite annoyed. The restaurant was not busy, there was some sorority event going on, so lots of tables of young girls, so that may have been the issue, but even at that, we were ignored most of our dinner. They were waiting on us. We were seated promptly and had one of the nicest waiters ever! He stated everything on their specialty menu for the evening and answered any/all of our questions about the menu. There were a few things we hadn't heard of - haha. (Thanks Google!) This is an upscale restaurant , I asked if they had vegan options, they said yes. The only options is a vegetable pasta that they have to hold the cheese on. It was just some pasta with olive oil and vegetables just dumped on top. The vegetables were just peas, spinach and onions. It tasted terrible, no seasoning, just vegetables on pasta. I was there for a conference and had already ordered drinks, so I ate it. However for an upscale place, I expected the chef to make something good to meat. I have eaten at the jw Marriott and the Ritz carlton; the chefs made amazing meals. So to charge $20 for a basic pasta dish isn't worth it. Yes the restaurant made excellent drinks which I did enjoy. Good food! I like the concept and I greatly enjoyed the 2 meals I ate there over 2 days. The dinner salad is exceptional with the creamy green-goddess type of dressing. I had the flat iron steak on nite 1 and the burger on nite 2. Both meals were delicious. Went here for a late dinner (still in the pacific time). Ordered the grilled chicken salad and it was alright. They are really good with the grill but the salad dressing didn't hit the mark for me, wasn't tasty even though the vegetables were fresh. Needed a better sauce. We started with the Shashito Peppers, ask for sea salt. After this our entrees arrived with a side of blistered and braised Brussels sprouts that made our mouths salivate to ultimate proportions. A tomahawk Pork Chop and a baseball perfectly cooked Beef Tenderloin were given our full attention. The rustic fire taste of root vegetables with fire roasted kale and a kale pesto made the plates shine. With service being the only reason for not giving the final star, it's definitely worth a trip for all Dallas locals and anyone venturing to our fare city. We had NYE dinner here. Came in expecting an oyster bar and tapas NYE special dinner, but to our disappointment, they decided not to offer this fare. However, the manager immediately came over and talked to us and explained why. He apologized and comped our drinks! Service was great! We ended up ordering the sea bass, flat iron steak, and scallops. The food is very fresh and delicious, nice sized portions, not too small and not too big. 85% of their menu is Farm to Fire concept. Very flavorful with nice presentation. Prices are reasonable, and they offer a wide range of fresh foods, including what looked like a great lunch menu. The hotel/restaurant offers complimentary valet with validation. This is a nice gem of a restaurant located in the Renaissance Hotel in Dallas. Will definitely be back! read more

I chose three small plates... veggies cassolet, brussels sprouts, and steak tartare. The roasted veggies were perfect... topped with a chimchuri sauce. The tartar was served with an egg salad and sliced bread... a great take on steak an eggs. If you've always hated Brussels sprouts, you have to challenge yourself and the sprouts at Asador. They are buttery good without any bitterness and served with chunks of bacon. Delectable. Service was good. Prices were reasonable. I'm a fan. read more

I recently stayed at the Renaissance hotel and this is the restaurant located in the hotel. It is very nicely done - great decor. In addition to the dining area there is a bar in the back of the restaurant. They had a nice IPA on tap and I had that ,some mussels and a jar of home-made pickles. It was all excellent. The pickles were in a habanero vinegar which made them sweet and spicy. It was a great start and was presented in a mason jar. I will upload a photo. I ordered the mussels because the night before I sat at the bar and a guy was raving about them. They were excellent and full of flavor. They came with bread which I soaked in the juices. I cant comment on the main entrees, but if the apps are an indication then this place is good. I overhead the bartender talking about their new chef from New Zealand or maybe it was South Africa (I think). My take-away was that they were proud of him and that he has a passion for food. read more

While on vacation in the area, we had a taste for steaks and something near the hotel. Doing some research, this placed popped as a place that served steak. Drove over there in the early evening, walking into the hotel and restaurant, noticed that the place was very nice looking. We were seated right away and handed menus, but upon looking at the menus, no steak was to be found. The server who was assigned to our table was new and in training, so she was assisted by a more experienced server. Found out that we were handed lunch menus, but they said it was close enough to dinner to get the dinner menus, which had steaks. Made a couple of requests to our meal and all were met as ordered. The steak was delicious as were the other items. The servers made several visits to our table to make sure things were going well. Will repeat the next time in the area. read more

This restaurant is inside the Renaissance Dallas hotel. I've read complaints about how expensive it is, but in reality the prices are similar to what you would find in a nice steakhouse. During my stay here I got the Wagyu burger, which was amazing. I also got the filet mignonette which was exceptional. Perhaps the best part of that dish is an au gratin stuffed sweet onion. I highly recommend this restaurant even if you're not staying here. They do get overwhelmed with the crowd sometimes, so be prepared for some slow service if there is an ongoing conference at the hotel. read more

Standard hotel fare... absolutely nothing special Located in the Renaissance Dallas Hotel, Asador touts itself as a "Modern Farm to Fire" restaurant. Based on this, I was expecting better than the usual hotel lobby restaurant. While the physical space is attractive, the food is rather average. To start, I ordered the Granja chopped salad. It was a little on the skimpy side but did have decent lettuce, overly spicy bacon, olives, cucumber, radish, and egg. The real problem was the ranch dressing; it was profoundly lemony and runny. Not the kind of creamy ranch that you would expect down in Texas. For my entree, I had the wood roast flat iron steak. The meat was good quality, cooked right, and well flavored. It came with au gratin potatoes stuffed into a hollowed out onion. The onion was kind of small and there was not much potato inside. I felt kind of hungry after eating two rolls, the smallish salad, and the steak with a skimpy side of potatoes. I did not try my luck with dessert because nothing about my meal so far suggested it was going to be a special experience. Overall, Asador is just a standard fare hotel restaurant with a fancy name. If you are stuck with no where else to go, Asador is ok. If you can go elsewhere, you should be able to get a better meal. read more

I have been several times for both lunch and dinner and each meal just gets better than the last. The chefs are extremely creative and are not afraid to play with different flavors that may be out of the norm. They always have surprisingly wonderful soups and the desserts are must. The only thing I would change is the service, it is so slow and overall a total bummer. However, where the service lacks the food makes up for it. Also - do not miss the craft cocktails. Words cannot describe how bad the service is at this restaurant. I asked the waiter since you're a tequila bar, what kind of tequila are you known for??, then he recommends the most expensive tequila..but every bar has that tequila. I did buy a round of tequila shots for my friends but little did I know I got charged to get them dressed (lime n salt). I got charged $36 for lime n salt...seriously?!?! The wait staff at this place is all about getting you to spend as much as possible to get a bigger tip. I was with a large party, so he knew he was getting 20%, so he was just trying to pump up the bill. At the end of our dinner service, it took them almost an hour to get us our bill. The manager (Max) stood in the corner looking at us and didn't come over to apologize or anything. Apparently this restaurant does not know what customer service is all about. We went to Asador for the "Mother's Day Brunch" offered at the Renaissance Hotel on Stemmons Freeway. First off, there was no signage anywhere. The valet took pity and pointed us to a set of escalators leading to . . . ball rooms. I finally walked over to two women located a good distance from the escalators to ask if they knew where the brunch was being held? The woman behind the podium looked shocked and said, "Oh yeah, I can take your name." She then handed a slip of paper to another woman who didn't say one word and took us to a set of elevators. She pointed at a table for (6), there were (3) of us, and walked away. And, then the wait began. Finally, someone ambled over with water and that was it. This was more like hide'n seek, than a celebratory brunch. The staff were not trained at all and there was a language barrier with every single person sent to wait on tables. I felt badly for them because no one had taken the time to even train anyone on where to get coffee, spoons, sugar, mimosas (there were three offerings), but again, no one was trained or bothered to show the staff what was being served. The food was good, but at that point, it's frustrating to go to a brunch touted with such fancy marketing, only to find out that there's a lot of management standing around, whilst the customers have steam coming out of their ears. The seating was awkward and cheap looking, and there was one waitperson that we tried to ask for more water who literally took her ear buds out to see what we wanted, only to walk away because she didn't understand what we wanted! (which was water). Someone from management did approach our table, but at that point, it was a lost cause to try and explain that brunch shouldn't be work for the customer. We got our parking validated . . . OH WAIT, no one bothered to tell the shocked lady from the podium that there's a special sticker that should be applied. So, there we were in the rain trying to get the gate to go up, but we'd been given the wrong validation. In all, a ridiculous, overpriced and disappointing experience. Attended an event here; there is a big emphasis on the farm-to-table philosophy. I like that they have some vegetarian options, which they can make vegan if you ask. Cocktails are on point (I had a snow pea cocktail that was well-composed, and all their house cocktails had some original/unusual element). The cauliflower, salads, and seafood are great. Mushrooms need to tone down the salt. I don't even like red velvet anymore but their red velvet cake was DELICIOUS. I stayed at the Renaissance during a work trip, and Asador was the only restaurant/bar in the hotel. I needed a quick bite before dinner and I ordered their pork lettuce wrap for take-out. I was greeted immediately, with a smile, and he said that the order would take less than 10 minutes. While waiting, I had some of their pineapple-infused water, which was delicious. I sat by the bar on my iPad and the host chatted with me and kept me updated about my order. Less than 10 minutes later, I had my food. The lettuce wrap was delicious and the veggies were crisp. I came back to Asador the next day for breakfast and was again greeted immediately with a smiling host/waiter. I had their avocado toast with eggs, which again was delicious. They served me a complimentary shot of their pineapple/papaya smoothie, which was also really tasty. And the whole time I'm eating/working away on my laptop, the host kept re-filling my coffee. Visited Asador for Restaurant week. Food was clean, light, fresh, and well seasoned/prepared. Very good fried chili donuts for dessert. Their Spanish/Mexican inspired components are among the best variations I've had (i.e. tomatillo salsa, etc...). The environment was rather nice but still casual. Service was attentive without being overbearing. The normal menu is bright, flavorful, and very fresh. Lots of potential. I believe they can grow and create a good name/following here in Dallas. The location and lack of marketing for the restaurant are its weak points. Otherwise it warrants a visit and is a good place to chill and grab a few drinks. read more
