This was my first visit to Bob's and it did not disappoint. I was in town for a conference at the Omni and was going to dinner with a co-worker and a couple other vendors. Normally, a lot of hotel steakhouses are mediocre. Sure, they have the different cuts of meat, but they can never back up their claims of deliciousness. Bob's is the diamond in the rough. Back home, Bob's is the name of a discount furniture chain of crappy quality knockoff furniture. So, the name threw me. So, when I'm in Dallas, I'll stow might thoughts of garbage furniture and think of mouth watering cuts of steak instead. I started with a wedge salad, but per usual, I removed the tomatoes and that smelly moldy blue cheese and left the bacon and added ranch dressing. This is the tastier way to eat a wedge. And like that meme of a guy with white poster board sitting at a table, change my mind. Anyway, the salad was good. Crisp, fresh lettuce, chucks of bacon, and a sweet ranch dressing. What's not to like? They also provided bread for the table. I think Dallas has yet to start charging for their bread (this is an awful trend as if us paying for an expensive meal now has to include a bread charge for $10-$20 dollars extra). The bread was crisp on the outside and doughy on the inside. Did it need butter? Good bread does not. And unless these restaurants can come up with an equally pleasing butter or spread that enhances the bread, then none is needed. For my main course, I opted for a 16oz prime filet mignon, medium rare, with their mashed potatoes. They provided a steak knife ( a really sharp one, too) and I was able to cut my steak with the butter knife. Eat bite melted in my mouth like ice on a hot plate. The filet was perfectly crafted and the potatoes were whipped to a creamy goodness. And despite the perfection of both the potatoes and the filet. The server was all about the carrot that accompanied the meal. The glaze was good. My carrot was on the softer side of my liking. We did have a vegetarian in our party and our server took care if her masterfully. There were salads, sure, but he took it upon himself to speak with the chef and came up with a dish not on the menu to appease her palate. And appease he did. She had a wonderful meal. As did we all. And in addition to our delectable meals, two of our party decided to also indulge in the lobster mac and cheese. I'm not a lobster and and regardless of the amount of lactaid pills I take, mac and cheese (especially homemade from a steakhouse) would render me immobile for days. However, they said it was rich, and creamy, laden with fresh lobster that it rivaled anything he had on the East Coast. We did gaze upon the dessert menu and while there were quite a few worth ordering; a wheelbarrow wasn't one of them. Alas, we paid our bill and off we went. This is one of the best steakhouses I've ever had the pleasure of visiting and I live in Chicago. My husband and I came here to celebrate his birthday and considering we had heard nothing but fantastic things about Bob's, we were excited to finally check it out for ourselves. This Bob's is located inside the Omni Downtown, and the vibe and aesthetic of the restaurant pair very well with this hotel. The hostesses kindly greeted us upon entry and kicked off our evening by quickly acknowledging my husband's birthday. We also received "happy birthday" branded menus which is always a nice touch. Our waiter for the evening was an absolute gem! He gave us phenomenal food and wine recommendations and was extremely kind, knowledgeable, and personable. We opted for the crab cakes and the scallops with bacon for our appetizer, and even though the crab cakes were great the scallops were "melt in your mouth" delicious. The bacon was a really nice touch as well. For our entree's, I ordered the filet and my husband ordered the bone in ribeye. Both were cooked at the perfect temperature (medium) and of course they both came with Bob's signature mashed potatoes as well as the infamous carrot. We also ordered a side of the macaroni and cheese, and added lobster. To be honest, the Mac and cheese wasn't awful but I personally wouldn't order it again. It had a slight sweetness to it that I didn't prefer. As we were wrapping up, our waiter brought out a traditional chocolate cake with a single candle to end our evening on the perfect note. This was my second visit to Bob's Chophouse, and once again the atmosphere did not disappoint. The dining room has a nostalgic, lively energy that makes it a great spot for a celebratory evening, though it's worth noting that it can get a bit loud--so not the best choice if you're looking for a quiet, intimate dinner. Our party of five had a 7:00 reservation, and overall the experience was enjoyable. The water service was exceptional--our glasses were never left empty, and that attention to detail deserves recognition. The steaks were cooked beautifully and full of flavor, though a bit on the gristly side. One guest ordered scallops, which unfortunately arrived a little cold. Where the evening fell short was in the pace of service. Both drink and food service were noticeably slow, which became more frustrating as the night went on. We had planned to enjoy dessert for a birthday celebration, but ultimately decided not to order it because of the delays. That said, Bob's remains a Dallas classic. The food is flavorful, the atmosphere is vibrant, and it's a place I would still recommend--especially for those experiencing it for the first time. The fresh baked bread with the slab of butter was so good my coworker and I devoured over half of it before realizing that the main course hadn't even been served yet. After another year around the sun, it was time for a birthday steak dinner. I chose Bob's since it has been a Dallas staple for years. Valet was easy, and I paid online. We were greeted and seated early. Water, bread, and butter arrived quickly. Our server was excellent. She was attentive, friendly, and upbeat throughout the meal. Martinis arrived cold with minimal ice, perfect. We started with calamari. The portion was large, and the flavor was solid. I wish the cocktail sauce had more heat. We ordered a filet and a New York strip, both medium rare. Both steaks were cooked correctly. The New York strip only had seasoning on one side and was harder to cut, though not chewy. I ordered a glass of wine. The pour was the smallest I have ever seen. The wine smelled musty and tasted off. I have had this wine before, and it was not right. I mentioned it to the manager during her table check. She did not notice an issue but replaced both glasses. The second pour was worse. The wine still stayed on the bill. I went to Bob's Steak & Chop House for a work event, which was held in one of their private rooms. The room was quite big as it probably had upwards to 100 people at one point. The wait staff was awesome and were on top of my drink orders, which was impressive considering how many people were at the event. Plus when I would go around the room to network, the staff member who took my order was laser focused on finding me to hand my drink. The catered small bites were amazing. I had popcorn lobster, seared scallops, jumbo shrimp, and lamb chops. Everything was tasty, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Back in NYC and the east coast, we have a furniture store chain called " Bob's discount furniture." I thought to myself, is this the same Bob from NYC venturing out? :) LOL. No such connection. The menu featured a diverse selection of high-quality cuts of meat, including wagyu beef. I ordered the prime rib medium rare, and my buddy had the filet mignon. The steaks were expertly cooked to the perfect doneness. To be honest, my prime rib was a bit chewy on some parts, but the overall taste was very good. The sides that accompanied the steaks were spot on. The carrot, baked, and smashed garlic potatoes were delish. The side salads were perfect too. The service was attentive, and the staff exhibited a good knowledge of the menu and gave us recommendations on the perfect spirits. Our server knew the menu, albeit her recommendations weren't what we expected. We had the Orin red blend, it was tart, I had the Bordeaux red from France, much better. The one scallop was amazing. I made a reservation for this location for my husband's birthday since steaks are his favorite! We were seated right away by the manager, the ambiance was relaxing and dark (my favorite). Our server Delton was great, he was very helpful and attentive. We started with cocktails and a shared Blue Cheese Salad. Oh! But I can't forget about the freshly baked bread that was placed on our table immediately after we sat. I really wanted to take the bread home but I knew it would had made a mess in my purse. I decided to order the Seared Duck Breast since I hadn't eaten duck in years. My husband had the Prime Ribeye, both dishes had different styles of potatoes and both were amazing. My husband had to admit that it was a delicious steak, even better than his (he does make some damn good steaks). Exquisite experience at Bob's for our friends birthday! A truly delectable dining delight. The attention to detail was truly superb! Our friend's name was listed on the menu for the night- such a lovely notion- We had great table set up and a wonderful friendly server. He was absolutely amazing and so attentive. My boyfriend who lives in Tennessee came to Texas to visit and of course I said let's stay at the Omni. When he asked for dinner suggestions, as a Texan I was eager to take him to Bobs Steak & Chop House. I put reservations in to put us at a romantic table. I dressed as sexy as I could get away with for him. Unbeknownst to me, my boyfriend said the hostesses were giving me a look up and down. And not in a nice way. They seat us and we ordered filets. My boyfriend's filet came out round like a ball and the waitress did not ask him to cut it open. It was cook rare when he asked for medium. The waitress was not around and we just continued eating. When she finally came back to our table, my boyfriend's expressed the issue to her, and nothing was done about it. I'm so embarrassed they didn't even comp him a dessert or nothing. $400 meals should be perfect. This was a terrible situation to put him through. read more

My husband and I had been to another Bob's Steaks and Chops in Dallas at a different location about 10 years ago and decided we should make time to go again! We were beet pleased with the entire evening. Our waiter, Jedediah, was very attentive and helped with ordering our dinners. The onion rings were massive, and you can see them in the background in my picture. It's a good thing we only got the half order! My filet minion was so tender the steak knife couldn't cut it, it just kind of tore apart! And my husband had his steak with the Oscar topping and he said it was the best crab legs he's had in a long time. When you go, just be prepared to fork over the money! We like to indulge every once in a while and it was a nice evening for us! For a Friday night at 5 o'clock the restaurant wasn't busy at all. In the section we were in, there was only one other couple, so it was nice and quiet. We did move from a booth to a table because we were sitting so far away from the table in our seats. Came in a Friday evening for a birthday celebration for my mom and her best friend. All staff were wearing masks at the restaurant. We started with 2 glasses the servers Pinot suggestion and 1 Lemon Drop. For an appetizer we had the onion rings. Thankfully our waiter suggested ordering a small size because they are HUGE! We had 3 (1 per person) and that was a perfect app size unless you don't plan to eat much more. We also had the tossed salad, which was simple but fresh and delicious. Tomatoes, carrots, and iceberg lettuce with a red wine vinaigrette. My main entree consisted of the "Cote de Bouef" bone-in 22 oz ribeye. Cut to a perfect medium, this steak melted in my mouth. Bonus for this restaurant? Each steak comes with a glazed carrot and your choice of mashed potatoes, skillet potatoes with gravy, or a baked potato. I chose baked potato and enjoyed the added service of having the wait staff bring the baked potato toppings (chives, sour cream, bacon, and cheese) table side. Because we were celebrating a birthday we were able to get what our waiter described as the "Birthday treat". It was DELICIOUS, I wish I had taken an after pic. It consists of a chocolate brownie with nuts 3 scoops of chocolate ice cream and 3 scoops of peanut butter ice cream. We learned from our server that the ice cream is sourced from "Henry's Homemade Ice Cream". When I tell you this was some of the best ice cream I've had! Henry's can thank Bob's as they now have a new customer. Overall this was a great dinner and both my mom and her best friend both told me that can't wait to go back. read more

After a two-year hiatus from Bob's we gave it another try. We wanted this to be outstanding, but it was not. Nothing much has changed since our last visit unfortunately. Cocktail prices were astounding at the bar. I am not sure I could look someone in the face and feel good about charging them $35 for Blanton's on the rocks or $18 for Buffalo Trace on the rocks (BT is about $26 for 750ml to give you a baseline) $22 for Decoy Merlot, or even $7 for a bottle of Bud (I mean it isn't a Cowboys game!). Service at the bar was slow and I have seen it far more crowded. Our bar tender was not the friendliest and she disappeared after providing me the check while I waited at least 5 minutes for her to return while my friends were at the table waiting on me. On to dinner. Our server was friendly and sort of attentive, but pushy and tried to constantly upsell everyone. By pushy I mean she pushed us to at least start appetizers. We did, but after a round of drinks was consumed, we still had not seen our appetizers and she was pushing to order entrees. I said we haven't seen our appetizers yet and instead of apologizing or saying sorry they were taking so long, she just stared at me asking what I wanted for my main course. I told her we needed a minute, and she was then fine with it. A few minutes later she was back and we ordered, but still no appetizers. They finally came a few minutes later and I have to say the Quail appetizer was worth the wait and delicious. I highly recommend the Quail. The fried lobster appetizer at $69 was not worth it and you could not really even taste lobster over the breading and crisp. Skip it! All the steaks come with mashed or some type of potato. When ordering, I asked her if she could substitute something besides potatoes (carbs) and she said sure at only half the price of a side. I found this ridiculous and a bit insensitive toward people trying to watch carbs. What's another $7 you say for a different side? Seems like the principle to me. The starter salads were surprisingly small for $12 each, but very good. You can order half sizes as well. Our server pushed a bacon upsell on the wedge. I have to say the special game chili was outstanding and may have been the best tasting chili have had anywhere. It was spiced perfectly and delicious flavor, but the meat was a bit overcooked. Great deal at $8 and highly recommend. The steaks were all prepared as ordered. The bone in ribeye was delicious, as was the 12-ounce filet. Fried shrimp got compliments and the shrimp were huge. The special Red Deer was a small portion at $70, but definitely enjoyed. Our table sides of creamed spinach and sauteed spinach with mushrooms were mixed. The creamed spinach was great and definitely recommended. The sauteed spinach was missing spinach as it was mostly mushrooms that did not have any flavor. I would not order the sauteed spinach and mushrooms again. No one was hungry, but we got the dessert push and could not resist. The Brownie Sundae was huge and for chocolate and peanut butter ice cream lovers a definite treat. We each had a bite, but a chocolate overload for me! So, most of the food we had was in the 4-5 star range. 1 star for overpricing. 1 star for service. Funny how service makes or breaks the fun of the evening regardless of the quality of the food. So easy for them to fix! We might be back next year at the Safari show, but only because by then we will have forgotten how this went. The staff was superrr nice and the service was excellent. Now for the food. Your table comes with jarred pickles and red peppers. You also get a pretty big loaf bread. It's the kind of bread that crumbles everywhere. We ordered a wedge salad which was smaller than expected and the mozzarella and tomato salad which just wasn't worth it. It was just moz balls with chopped up tomatoes (nothing fancy). My friend and I split the 14oz ny strip and got a side of Mac n cheese. If you love salt you will love the steak.
