OMG Amazing!!! For context, I was born and raised in Pakistan so know about Pakistani/Indian cuisine very well. We started with beef samosas which took us back to Pakistan! We tried chicken bihari roll then which was wow! Chicken melted in the mouth as soon as I had it. Finally on to the entrée, we had nihari and paya nihari. The taste was spot on! Since I moved to USA, I haven't experienced such a wonderful NIHARI specially Nali & Maghaz Nihari at Ashar's Kitchen. The taste and texture remind me of Jawaid 's Nihari in Karachi. Tandoor fresh Naan with heavenly tasteful Nihari was all amazing and unforgettable. Staff was very efficient and good in hospitality. Mr. Ashar personally met our group at the table and collected feedback from us. Very positive attitude. Literally got one chunk of meat in the Nihari I had ordered. No doubt the food tastes good, but I personally feel the price is not worth the quantity. Not ordering from here again. The food is good - actually very good. But the service is subpar. The staff needs better instruction. The young and clueless girl who took payment was extremely rude. She went over the bill and when there was a discrepancy I explained such in both English and Urdu and she responded with "Are you sure?". Insinuating that we were either liars or cheats or both. What's sad is that the server was very attentive this time (and that's an exception rather than a rule). But the lady that took care of the bill lacked common sense .... or any sense whatsoever. Make people stand in line for 45 minutes and then let other people get through . I had ordered a regular order nothing too much just your standard Nehari, sheik kabob, and chicken boti along with a couple garlic naan. We had called twice and placed the order at 3:57 pm on 6/27/21 I was told it would be read 25 to 30 minutes so I had gotten there around 4:30 to pick up our order. When we got there our order was no where to be found and was told it was going to be another 30 to 40 minutes. Which is ridiculous in my opinion! When we had call back to talk to the owner to complain the employee had hung up on us. We called back again and the Owner answered the phone apologizing and saying the order was written on a different piece of paper. I understand accidents happen but since i was treated like garbage and the employee hanging up on us I will NEVER GO BACK TO THE RESTAURANT ESTABLISHMENT! Never again - no respect for customer's time. -Called to place an order, says it will be ready in 20 minutes. -Arrived after 20 minutes, they say "10 more minutes". -Almost 30 more minutes later I get my food (4 orders of kabab and some naan). No further updates from employees during this extra 30 min time even though I'm sitting directly in front of register waiting and there are at least 4 of them working the register/dining area (wasn't busy, this was 7:50-8:50p). If they had told me when I called it would take an hour, that's fine, I would've just arrived accordingly. They wasted 40 minutes of my time which also made me 30 minutes late to pick up another food order nearby (which was prepared on time, and then cold by time I arrived). Food has always been spot on over years! Never disappointed. But management & service was rollercoaster. When there was women who was manager it was great! Then past year or so without management service was so bad we avoided Ashar's when possible, but couldn't help to go due to excellent food. On our visit last night we were pleasantly surprised by new manager, he was was excellent! Keep asking if items were needed and how food was, think now Ashar's is on path back to its old glory! Have been there couple of times great food every time. We also went there on their famous Wed night Nihari night buffet. Didn't know you need a booking to ensure seating. They let us in anyway as we were early and people were not jamming the place yet. By the time we left there were people lining up outside. I was only able to try 3 out of 5 types of Nihari aNd loved the lamb shank Nihari. I see some bad reviews about their service before going and was concerned. Me, along with my family, decide to try out their Wednesday nihari night (7 variations of nihari with unlimited naan). Parking is ample. Their was waiting of about 30 - 45 mins. We have been to asher kitchen so many times for Nihari, and its now become in Houston everyone knows it, but today we went for halwa pori, its too good I usually eat 2 pories as they are always very heavy but they serve 3 pories and i have eat all of them in one go, it was very lite idk how quantity was more than enough for one person, lassi was even really refreshing and yumm, price is little bit hight as compared to other halwa pori's places .. but in the end I really like the taste of pories.. must try for pories as well !! read more

This review may be biased because the family who invited us to the restaurant were related to the owners of the restaurant, so the service level was exceptional and very different from what majority of folks are suggesting. So 5 stars for sure for service. The food itself was also excellent. We had paratha rolls, bihari chicken, dhaga kabab, katakat (this was something new they were experimenting with), naans, parathas, kabuli pulao, and chai. Also, the food presentation was excellent, the plates, glasses etc were very traditional. I did not eat the pulao, but rest of the stuff tasted really good. Only thing was that Nihari was very spicy, though unlike other reviewers, i would say it looked and tasted like nihari. If the spice level was lower, you would taste it for sure. I've been going to Ashar's since they were located in Adams on westheimer. Their nahari used to be the best in town but from past year or so their quality have gone down, not sure if they have a new chef or what. Their food used to be so flavorful but now it's just oily and spicy. I hope they are able to fix this issue soon and we hope to be back soon. read more
