Pretty solid dim sum spot Gets very busy of course, so be prepared to wait if you have a big crew The steamed dimsum was pretty good if I may say so myself The fried however was not so good as I think their oil should be changed as there was an oil stench on all the fried items we ordered Service was attentive and food came quick (except for the shrimp dumpling - - but this is a good sign that it was made to order) Congee was made very well and nice and fluffy consistency

I was invited to dinner by a friend at Asian Pearl Kitchen. I've been here for dim sum before but never for dinner. Apparently they now serve dim sum for all meals. It is pretty typical chinese restaurant decor. But it was nice and clean. The service was good although I think my friends frequent this restaurant often and do get treated well. There was so much food and it was all very good. The dishes kept coming and coming which all arrived very quickly and piping hot. I would highly recommend this restaurant for dinner and/or dim sum.

Oh no. I am sad that after 16 years , the original chefs left . My family could taste the difference that after the remodel, it no longer tastes the same. It used to be delicious , authentic Cantonese cuisine, now every dish lacks flavor or is missing something. We ordered: Yang Chou fried rice ( super dry , it needed a lot more oil) this is one of the most basic dishes in Chinese cuisine and I am actually surprised it was bad. Sizzling egg tofu with diced seafood ( didn't taste the same as before , too salty and the egg tofu was fried) Braised fish chunk (not enough flavor and the fish were just fried and thrown in) Crab meat with fish maw soup ( not the same, lacks intense flavor) After dining in, for the next two hours, I was super thirsty . I think they use a lot of MSG. I am fine with MSG , just not this much! On the upside, the service was excellent. Attentive and kind. But I only come for the food and the food has too much MSG and doesn't taste like before.

I've been to all of their locations, and this was my first time visiting the El Cerrito spot. They have an organized check-in process where they manually write down your name and call your number when your table is ready. The wait was about 30-45 minutes on a weekend during lunch, which felt reasonable for peak dim sum hours. The space is quite small inside, especially for a dim sum restaurant, so it can feel a bit tight. That said, the food came out hot, fresh, and flavorful. The servers were quick and efficient, though the service wasn't particularly standout. Overall, it's a solid spot to bring your family for some hot, fresh dim sum.

Came here for a lunch with my grandma and uncle. It's located in Pacific East Mall, so plenty of parking and you can also shop at Ranch 99 after (just dont leave anything in sight in your car!) The decor and service are pretty standard for a Chinese dimsum place with large banquet style tables and a large dining room space. The food is pretty average, and prices are about average or slightly higher than average. Overall, a pretty average spot but if youre looking for a dimsum fix in the area, especially with a large party, this place should fit the bill.

the reality is, there seem to be fewer and fewer sit down dim sum restaurants. The number of places you can get a table and really get high quality, authentic, dim sum fare just seem to be disappearing, with many disappearing post-pandemic. Asian Pearl may not be the best dim sum restaurant ever, but I'm so happy to have a dim sum spot within a 5-10 minute drive from my home in Berkeley. The highlights were definitely the steamed chicken feet and har gow. Both were excellent in terms of flavor and quite large. The purple rice noodle roll was a gamble, it's a unique color but it had great taste and texture. The one to skip was the portuguese egg roll - it was a little too mushy and not up to standards. Will definitely be coming back for the dim sum!

We went for their lobster dinner special. 2 lobsters for$39! Ginger and scallion style was very good. Very meaty and tasty. Will be going back for sure! Also tried the giant clam, one with vermicelli + garlic, both balanced out the clam nicely, very light but delicious. But as much of a fan of the stir fry style, overly sweet and was gritty! Our server was very considerate and informed the manager, who gracious took it off our bill. The service was very attentive, changed our plates 3x during our meal. Will be back to check out their other dinner specials as well.

Found a bug stuck in my shrimp dumpling.. typical Chinese restaurant, not one apology, didn't even acknowledge it, waiter just took it and tossed it and walked away. I had them remove it from my check.

I mean it was okay but not mind-blowing given how many great Chinese restaurants we have!

A very typical Asian restaurant. The food was fine, nothing special and nothing bad either. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but I might stop by if I were in the area and craving something.

Came here at opening on a Saturday. The menu has all of the typical items you would find at a dim sum restaurant. We ordered our dishes and within 10 minutes. They started coming out one by one. The dishes were all good. Portion sizes are good. I wouldn't say this is the best dim sum I've had, but it does the job for the price point. It's a good option if you're craving dim sum and looking for a more affordable since a lot of the dim sum restaurants are pretty pricey now. Service was really good as well.

Standard Cantonese style restaurant. We come here often, since the in-laws like the place because of the daily specials, especially the "Japanese ribeye" or whatever its called but the one time I tried it, it turned out way undercooked. There's a difference between rare/medium rare to just pure raw; no thank you. Everything was overly sweet, with the exception of the soup. Service is stereotypical, the customer is never right & at times a nuisance but its efficient. Dishes are hit/miss so just keep experimenting until you find your go-tos.

    Crystal C.

Overall, it was just okay--not bad, but nothing special. The food was passable, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. One plus was that the food came out pretty fast once we were seated. However, even though we arrived within an hour of opening, there was already a wait. They don't have a digital waitlist, so you have to hang around and listen for your number to be called, which isn't the most convenient.

    They’re on Doordash.

Are the Dim Sum carts(if they still have them) only for weekend Dim Sum,or during the week also?

No more carts, you order from a menu.

What happened? Didn't this place used to be open until like 2am? ETA: Daimo was my backup for after Asian Pearl closed for the night so don't tell me I'm mixing the two up.

Daimo restaurant is the one that's open till 3am.

What time is dim sum served until?

I was able to order dim sum at 9pm...so I guess they serve it all day throughout

Last time, we got the $88 dinner and added three dishes. This time, I ordered the $168 dinner. I found out after I placed the order that instead of picking from the left side for the less expensive menu and the right side for the more expensive menu, we can select from either side for either menu! We also added one dish because my wife insisted that we needed more veg! Our server presented us with a bowl of House Soup. It was a great way to get our stomachs ready for the deluge of dinner about to happen! Whole Roast Duck - 3 - We had dinner the previous night at another Chinese restaurant and had a Peking Duck. It was odd that the Peking Duck was more moist than our Roast Duck. Yes, the fatty parts were fatty but the non-fatty parts were dry. Braised Beef Stew - 4 - Lots of beef. Excellent sauce. Missing Tendons and Daikon. Honey Walnut Shrimp - 3 - Even under the flavor of the sauce, I could tell that some of the shrimp weren't as fresh as they should be. No one else said anything so I let it go. Peking Rib - 5 - If I drank beer, this would be an excellent dish to nosh on while doing so. Crispy Fried Flounder - 4 - The flounder was okay, but the fins and tail didn't get super crispy so we could enjoy them as chips. The other thing that may have made it better for us might be a sweet and sour sauce. Chicken with Mixed Mushrooms - 4 - Yep, I'm a mushroom freak. I could care less about the chicken, but mushrooms? I'm there. Stir-fried Clams in Black Bean Sauce - 4 - These were okay. My wife said she got a bunch of empty shells. That happens sometimes. No idea what other people got. Chicken Chow Mein - 5 - got the skinny noodles fried soy sauce chow mein style. Yummy! Snap Pea Beef - 4 - Beef was tender. Could have used more snap peas. Overall, a decent dish. I also included pictures of the two "set" menus. Note that $88 comes with a 1/2 Royal Chicken while $168 comes with a whole Roast Duck. Service was okay. Food came in spurts. Soup. Wait. Two dishes. Wait. Wait. Wait. Most everything else. Wait. Last three dishes.

We ordered hot and sour soup, steak and mushrooms, yang chow fried rice, and the bbq pork chow menu. The fried rice came out quick and was flavorful with shrimp and bbq pork but a little oily. The hot and sour soup was definitely spicy and could serve at least 5 people. My father in law didn't like that there was so much tofu in the soup but I didn't mind it. We ordered the small size chow mein and easily would have fed 5 people as well. However, the chow mein lacked flavor. I added soy sauce and it was better. The steak and mushrooms was very good and included 3 different types of mushrooms. Steak was nice and tender. Something strange was that we were never offered water then looked around and not one table dining had waters.

We were lucky to find a parking spot right away but there seems to be ample parking since there are several lots in front but we did overhear someone did have to park "far away" which led them to have a long walk to meet their party. With that said, since we have to put in menu orders with waiters, it does add to a little more lag time from the food getting delivered to the table and eating. If you end up ordering some of the fried stuff, there can be extended wait times as a lot of the stuff seems cook to order. Ended up order siu mai, har gow, shrimp rice noodle, and house special (Hong Kong style) pan fried noodle which were good and flavorful. It's actually a popular, higher-end Chinese restaurant in downtown Berkeley, and judging by the number of people waiting to be seated on a weekend only 30 minutes after opening, it clearly does very well. One note: I often see long weekend lines forming even before opening, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation or arriving early. We came here with one thing in mind: Peking duck. It was prepared beautifully, with the exact nostalgic flavor and crispy skin I was hoping for. I also loved the way they presented the thin pancakes--half-folded and slightly overlapping each other--so you didn't have to worry about peeling each layer apart and accidentally ripping them. The dipping sauce and green onions were provided on the side, though I do wish they included thinly sliced cucumber to complete the experience. My husband also ordered the fish, which turned out soft, delicate, and delicious. It was a nice complement to the duck and rounded out the meal really well. My only real critique of Great China is the pricing. You're definitely paying a premium here, but the food does taste authentic and well-executed. Given the limited competition in the area, I can see why it feels justifiable if you live nearby. That said, it may not be as worth the splurge for people who already have easy access to more traditional, old-school Chinese restaurants.

But it was lunch time so not surprised by the wait. The lunch menu was found on their website. Pretty pricey but the flavor to the Orange crispy chicken was good and simple fried rice was tasty. The wait area is small - all counter barricaded by plants, tables & boxes.

There's no indoor seating at the moment--I think they closed it during Covid and never reopened. It'd be great to dine in one day if that changes. I usually call in my order, and the food is always ready quickly. The ladies who work there are incredibly kind and always toss in a few free spring rolls when I order a lot--which is often! My go-to dishes: honey walnut shrimp, combo fried rice, combo chow mein, sesame chicken, chicken wings, black pepper beef, and broccoli beef. Their menu is huge, so there's definitely something for everyone. Honestly, everything I've tried has been tasty, which is why I stick to my favorites. I love supporting neighborhood spots like this, and I'll keep coming back whenever I'm craving Chinese.
