It's really hard to find a table here anytime between 10am and 2pm. Any seat is prime real estate. Cooks has everything conveniently labeled which is super handy if you're vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, etc. The vegetarian pho is actually vegan! I love COHO! Especially after their renovation, I have to admit. I do find myself going to the CoHo more and more. Their design and overall environment is quite cozy, and best part is the food here isn't fast food. They have assorted choice of food, such as pizza, pastry, hot food, sandwiches, salads, sushi, pho, and mexican food. Normally I go for the Taco Salad, it's inexpensive and does it job in filling you up. The hot food changes daily and their menu is normally pretty good. The only thing about the CoHo is sometimes the workers can get too into their chit-chatting and slow down in making the food. But they do have quick service during the rush hour. Then again, they have too since there's such a big crowd there. I love the food and the environment, great place on campus to get some lunch :D read more

I'm actually obsessed with the food in Coho and I'm disappointed in myself for not discovering it until Spring quarter of my junior year. Now I only got a year left to eat here :/ I come here before my 8ams to grab a cup of iced coffee for less than $2 and a delicious, freshly baked pastry. My total comes out to be around $3. Obviously the coffee isn't as strong as Mishka's (or good) but it'll get the job done and it's c h e ap. Cooks is my absolute favorite place to eat here. I get the Chicken Tet which tastes like a dry version of chicken noodle soup. The quiche is packed with flavor and I always get a side salad to compliment it. There are daily specials so you can expect to see different things on the menu everyday. And that's not even the best part. Everything is cooked fresh from local ingredients. It's about $4+ for a small which is kind of pricey compared to the others thing you can get, but you get the idea. You can't eat anywhere that's better than Cooks on campus, in my opinon. On my broke and starving days, I get the Taco Salad from TexMex. No tortilla, no meat, and extra pico please. Total comes out to be $2.40 and I'm FULL off that meal. If you're feeling extremely hungry, get it with the tortilla so you can carb load your body!!! The only bad experience I had was the black beans being drenched in salt. Could barely finish it but it's not something that happens everyday. I would suggest you get the refried beans since I haven't had a bad experience with them. The bagels are pretty mediocre, but I get the asiago cheese bagel with Sun dried tomato cream cheese. Super filling, but never warm...which is a down side. I ask for it to be toasted every time and they don't seem to do it. Maybe it's just not a thing there? Overall, this is the best place for cheap food that's fresh and with lots of variety! read more

This place is gross honestly. If you are in Davis and you are on campus, go to the Silo or the south coho or literally anywhere else. Just bought a coffee that tasted like burnt water and they are extremely unfriendly. I felt like ordering an ice coffee was like the worst thing in the world for the cashier. The food is also really gross and kind of pricey for how jank it is. I really understand why students prop up and study there, but spending money there is beyond me. I'm glad that UC Davis employs students, but these students should learn how to roll a burrito! Almost 100% of the time, my breakfast burritos and chicken burritos are not rolled very well. They do not mix the burritos well so one part will have egg, another part with beans, another with sausage, etc. I just got a chicken burrito today, and they didn't put any rice in it. I looked at the menu and I know that the burritos include rice in it. Please train your students! They also raised prices on breakfast burritos. Before, it was one size. Now, they have the regular and especial. The regular burritos are very small (see photo) It looks like the restaurants are owned by the university so there is no motivation to be above average. If you're short on time, and you want a mediocre burrito or bagel, then come to the MU! The pizza place is okay. The acai bowls at the pizza place are pretty good. Nugget of wisdom for fellow broke college students: you can get a HUGE meal that can be portioned into lunch AND dinner, for less than $3. Yes, people. Two meals for $3. I present to you the Regular Taco Salad from the TexMex station. Get it without the tortilla (makes it even cheaper), extra black beans, extra pico de gallo, extra cheese, and it comes out to around $2.35. Great source of fiber from the beans (shout out to Prof Applegate for that tip), vitamin A from the tomatoes, and plenty of lettuce. If you want extra protein, you can add in tofu, chicken or beef for a little extra (comes out to like $4 I think). You know you've had the undergraduate experience when you have eaten or bought something from the CoHo! Compared to the old CoHo (yes, kids, I was an undergraduate when the old CoHo still existed, was there when they were constructing the current one and lived to see the grand opening of it), this CoHo is different...in good and bad ways. Organization & Layout- Modern and more spacious than the old CoHo! There are more seats and tables for sitting & eating...and sometimes napping! I also like how the different "cuisines" (I use this lightly) are sectioned so there isn't a huge buildup of traffic during rush hour (morning and noon). The CoHo is also cleaner than before...which is nice because you don't have to cringe at the dinky little table with old croutons anymore. Food- Not the best but decent when your stomach is grumbling and you don't want to go elsewhere for food! I personally enjoy the pizza from "Ciao" because it's usually fresh and out of the oven! I do miss the buy one get one free deals during closing time because who doesn't love a good deal when you're broke! The "TxMx Grill" offers good burritos when you're craving some carbs...but watch out for the freshness at this place though. Sometimes you get really old guac so your food doesn't look thattttt appetizing. **Suggestions from a very experience CoHo-er: Carne Asada sandwich! The steak is surprisingly flavorful and at about $6, it's a great steal! and love the Combination pizza...the tomato sauce they use is savory and tasty! Price- Overpriced for some items like the salads from "Croutons".... the salad bar used to be self serve and based on how much you put on it so you get to be your own judge! But I can't complain, the CoHo is conveniently located and does offer good selections when you're running to class and need a bite to eat! Service- This place is student run! So that means that the service is always great and man, do they know how to handle rush hour! I've had a lot of friends who have worked here and they always say that the CoHo is one of the best places to work on campus because: 1) the atmosphere is great 2) your coworkers become your good friends 3) free food! Come here during finals week late at night for the free coffee and snacks!! Sometimes I felt kinda guilty eating here because they try and make their food "healthy" or "organic" which you can see in the price since you don't get much food for the price. Sooo many options! I love that the Coffee House on campus offers such a broad variety of foods: Mexican, Japanese, Italian, American... Unfortunately not all their food tastes good. There will definitely be a bunch of hits and a bunch of misses. For example, the stale bread of those sandwiches.... Don't get the bahn mi there -- the bread is soo hard and stale ): They have a large variety of drinks so you'll surely be able to find something to quench your thirst. The Coffee House, also known as the CoHo, is run by the Associated Students of the University of California, Davis (ASUCD). Located in the Memorial Union, adjacent to the Quad, it is at the hub of activity on Campus. Inside, there isn't too much of an atmosphere besides your typical cafeteria, but it is quite easy to take your meal onto the quad and lie under a tree on the grass, watching silly college students or squirrels. The CoHo is truely run by the students, for the students. As a result, student interests are prioritized, like having local organic food and fair trade coffee. Employees are treated well, and as an added bonus, tend to be very attractive. My favorite way to enjoy the CoHo is to grab a sandwich (I'm partial to provolone with avocado, tomatoe, lettuce, and pesto mayo and brown mustard on a french roll or the delicious sourdough, with a FREE side of grapes) and, as mentioned before, sit on the quad. This is typical behavior after my 12-1 MWF Wildlife Conservation Biology class at Wellman, right accross the street. When I have class a bit later, I like to grab a delicious snickerdoodle or chocolate chip cookie (or both), and some nice fair trade coffee. When I have it early, a bagel sandwich, complete with a CoHo made spread, is my best bet. The one negative thing I can say about the coffeehouse is that it closes much too early- around 3PM. I wish I could grab dinner there. Other than that, it's as good as it gets- all of the charm, good will, cheapness, and perfect fit of a college joint, with amazing quality food. Pretty good spot to study and eat! It can get really crowded fast though. Also there's no outlets anywhere, so if you're planning to stay there long, make sure your battery is fully charged! But it's in a nice location, smack dab in the middle of campus pretty much and right near a lot of the popular buildings and the library. There's a huge food/coffee/tea selection too. Plus everyone who works there is super nice! If you're in a rush though, don't count on getting things very fast since it's super crowded. The coffee house is a great place to stop by and grab a bite to eat. Food is relatively cheap and there are tons of choices. They have pho noodles, pizza, tex mex, and of course, coffee! I mean, a place that houses coffee, goodness what else would you expect? There are tons of seating, but takes a while to find one. So be prepared to get into predator mode. It can be loud at some times, but it's still a great place to do work and hang with your peeps. I love coming here whenever I have a break. I just wish it wasn't so crowded. I remember the first months of fall quarter when this place wasn't even open yet. Oh how I dreaded walking either to the Silo or Olson for my cup of joe. Fortunately, not long after fall quarter was coming to an end, the Coho opened. Be warned from the hours of 1130-2:00 this place looks like a pigeon feeding in the busy streets of Manhattan. Students being the pigeons of course and UCD being the feeders! Seats are never available and pushing and shoving is a necessity. What I enjoy at the Coho are: - bagels (MMMM Salmon, cream cheese, and cucumber) - the green curry (ONLY if it's raining outside) - sushi (sometimess..) - sandwiches (probably the best thing here) - coffee & tea (they don't have the fancy stuff here like they do at the silo :( ) - bakery good ($1 cookies pretty good) Besides the crowded and overbearing atmosphere of stressed out students, this place basically is your go to place on campus. The COHO is a god send. I'm vegan, and the vegan options they have at the Cooks vendor is a blessing! I'm particularly fond of Cooks because the line tends to move faster than at other vendors! Also, I like their marinara pasta and spicy artichoke pasta. Their Jamaican Lentil Soup is the BEST. Another blessing is the TxMxGrill. The burritos there are SO affordable. A regular sized burrito with rice, beans and salsa is $2.25! The larger sized burrito is around $4 and seriously keeps me full the whole day! The one vendor I'm not too impressed with is the salad bar. Although all the veggies are fresh, the price is expensive -- $5.25 for a simple salad with no protein and seven toppings! I still like getting their salad though, I just wish it was less expensive. Their sandwiches and bagels are pretty good -- except that the main spreads I get on them are avocado and hummus, and they both cost extra :(. Overall though, I really like the COHO! I had a few of my photo students who worked here so they always hooked me up with fantasticly huge amounts of food for like $1. This is an obvious bias since I worked here. Espresso Bar: All baristas are well trained in techniques. Everything is manual, there are no automatic buttons. Favorites: Soy Latte, Dirty Chai Latte, ChocoMango (Iced mocha with mango syrup- an invention by Michelle and I) Tip: The coffee, bakery, and pizza section is open on Saturdays. Not many people seem to know about it. Thus, there are plenty of empty tables and faster WIFI! I never came here freshman year because of the DC, but I virtually spent all of my free time on campus here at the Coffee House during my subsequent years at UCD. They have a wide variety of foods, including bagels, sandwiches, salads, soups, pizza, hot foods, and Mexican foods. There's even a small bakery here. I'm personally a fan of the pizzas, the nachos, and the sandwiches (I always asked for extra mayo from the staff and I never got a weird look... good!!). Salads and bagels are good here, too. Everything is pretty well done for being a completely student-run organization. It gets packed here on rainy days, so seating options can be limited, but it's always fun to come here, grab a table, eat, or just do crossword puzzles with friends. D'awww AND AND AND THERE'S SOYMILK FROM A COMPANY IN SACRAMENTO FOR ONLY A DOLLAR. In the words of honey boo boo, "DOLLAH MAKE ME HOLLAH HONEY BOO BOO CHILD!" Coffee prices here are relatively cheaper compared to Cargo Coffee at Olson Hall . A cup of coffee is 1.50 for 12 oz but if you bring your own mug its 1.50 for 20 oz! Go green! And they have soymilk and cream on the side for those of you who don't drink it black. But I have yet to try the sandwiches, salads or baked goods but I'm sure its same as the coho, but south. Far superior to the measly choices at the Silo, the CoHo is a great place for coffee, sandwiches, bagels, or any other foodstuffs you may be craving. I personally am a frequenter of the Swirlz (coffee), Fickle Pickle (sandwiches/bagels), Tex Mex Grill (burritos, taco salad, etc.), and Cooks ("homey" food like casseroles). I have never tried the pho bar despite its rave reviews, simply because I prefer many of the other choices the CoHo has to offer. I particularly like the fowl salad on my sandwich or bagel, or the AMAZING taco salad from the Tex Mex grill. The fact that they used grilled chicken thighs cooked right to order while you wait just makes my mouth drool thinking about it. I also recently tried the Tikka Masala from Cooks and was not disappointed! My expectations weren't high going into it, but I was very happy with the end result. They lose a star for their service. I understand it is a student-run business, but it is a business. Figure out the flaws (read: specific workers) and smooth them over. Additionally, it's only a sandwich or burrito--it's not that hard to make it like it's supposed to be made and give a little bit of a crap while you're doing it. read more

I have to agree. For a quick bite and (hopeful) seating for a quick review before an exam, the CoHo serves as a social and study/networking hub for students having classes around the quad. I had one class way on the other side of campus and could never trot my way over on Thursdays. The quad is this long rectangular grassy field dotted with trees and provided a break away from all the structural cement.......I was such a loner, so I always spent time in the shade catching up on reading. Typical cafeteria layout, I would usually purchase my smoothie with the spirulina additive and then walk over to the hot foods area to get my favorite item: bread bowls. I'd eat this on a warm day any day. Large sourdough bread bowls filled with either clam chowder or chili. Their vegetarian chili was wonderful, big chunks of zucchini and eggplant. I'd eat the entire contents and then munch on the scooped out core of the bread bowl on my way to Philosophy class. *sigh* those were the days..... read more

I love love their turkey sandwiches!!! I have already had it 2 times in a row. Highly recommend their wheat French roll which has some nuts to it. Adds nice touch of crunchiness at the end. I normally get the chipotle sauce on it and its all the sauce I need! It also comes with a pickle and either chips or an apple. Their tuna salad on a croissant is bomb! Who cares if your mouth stinks after, chew gum! Sandwich+pickle+ chips or apple= 4.95! cheaper and probably healthier than silo sandwiches. The food is always cheap. The crowd is great entertainment. I have major doubts about anyone's ability to study here at any time of the day. The coffee/espresso is pretty good here. The breakfast burritos are outstanding. And I mean OUTSTANDING. I wish I had one in my mouth right now while i am typing. The tetrazinni is extraordinary. I no longer partake of red meat - but when I did the meat loaf here was breath taking. I got a friend of mine to set up a program to check their menu everyday and then auto email me when meatloaf hit the menu. It was the bomb. The cookies at the coffee counter are bad. Really bad. I mean vomit bad. Don't try em. Don't even look at em. They might jump out of the case and grab you kind of bad. The Pho' bar is fantastic. They have a nice curry dish every day. You can tell them what toppings you want. Can be vegetarian if you so desire. Also, the pho is'nt too shabby either. If you want cold fresh drinking water, bring your own Nalgene/stainless steel/glass water bottle, fill it with ice at the drinks dispenser, and walk over to the filtered drinking water dispenser b the west entrance and fill up your water bottle. This is also the area of the coho where they have 1, and unfortunately only 1 microwave. The line to heat up your food gets pretty long during lunch so I'd recommend taking a slightly earlier or later lunch if you brought your own food. Either that or prepared to wait for microwave use. In general, the food here is pretty expensive for what you get. To get the most bang for your buck, I usually go to fresh mex to get a burrito. They can run pretty dry sometimes so don't expect too much. The coho does offer a good selection in addition to Mexican such as sushi, indian, pizza, pasta, bagel sandwiches, etc. It's hard to find an open seat here for lunch. read more

I try to go here when it isn't that crowed, but we all know thats impossible. the line to get the food, and the line to pay for the food can get quite long. So, I try to avoid this place as much as possible. It's great when a guy makes my food because they tend to grab bigger portions and that way I get more food. Ha! Beware of not having anywhere to stand let alone sit during the lunch rush. Especially when it's cold or raining outside, students flock to the inner workings of the Coho and every single chair and table is taken. I usually only get either a sandwich, bagel, or pizza here. None of the other food ever really appealed to me. Prices are okay (minus the sushi, which is packaged like the ones you get at a Safeway and for 8 bucks a pop). Make sure you have your idea when paying with card, and bring your own water bottle because it's 25 cents for water (however refills in your prior used cup or own canteen is free). I like to come here to either study or hang around and do nonsense things. THe patio out front is perfect for when the whether is a little bit nicer and you could use some shade. The CoHo, a place students gather to eat, socialize, and get stuff done. That sounds like the perfect place and really, they have done a much better job than most. I have never known a school cafeteria / dining area that I have spent more time in than at the ASUCD Coffee House. Now, the only thing that kept this place from being a 5-star location is the food. I know there are many fans of the food at the CoHo on campus but it's just not that great. I sample a lot of the different foods offered by the CoHo and I have to say that there are only a handful that I have really enjoyed. None of the food is bad, it's just not spectacular. Maybe I'm hard to please... However, I would like to point out that the price for the food is fair and balances out the quality. The food that I do like though: pho mixed with curry, chicken tet, and the sandwiches. Sometimes they have jambalaya which is pretty good too. The nachos and wet burritos are also not too bad. I happened upon this lovely specimen at the UC Davis Coffee House. Made fresh daily in this student run and managed establishment, these cinnamon rolls will fill your tummy and keep your pockets full as well. At $1.40 (tax included), these lovelies are a bargain. The Good - They are cheap (of course); nice cinnamon flavor; great dough; served warm. The Bad - Not as gooey as I would like cuz I love me some icing on my cinnamon rolls. The Ugly - Nothing really ugly; this time the top of the one I purchased probably saw an extra minute or so in the oven but other than that it was delish! read more

The old Coho coffee house was GREAATT! A single cup of latte was $3.15 and they got your order right. I went to the new Coho coffeehouse/ Swirlz and I am really disappointed. REALLY. A single cup of latte is now $3.35. The line was massively long even though they had hella people working. The cashier not only got my order wrong but forgot to give me my brownie. Then after I ordered, I had to go to a second line which was longer than the first line just to pick up my drink. I had to stand there for at least 10 minutes b/c the people making the drinks were getting people's orders and names mixed up. I mean, I can go on and on about how terriable it is. I havn't gone back since their grand opening b/c really, $3.35 for a cup of latte and this isn't even starbucks. The new renovations look great overall but they really need to bring the prices down. read more
