To sum our experience at Aunt Catfish.... Disappointed! So many great reviews but we didn't experience that. Very mediocre service. Waitress wasn't even sure if they had the 3 flavors of catfish on their entree. Took a while just to get drink order. I felt like they were just trying to get through the shift and push the customers through the restaurant. My fish was VERY bland. I had the 3 types and catfish, hush puppies. They all taste the same and not that great. I get better fish from Lake Erie. My wife got chicken fingers and fries. They were huge and not very warm. Fries were cold. After you order they send you to the side bar area for all the fixings and cinnamon rolls. The baked beans was the best thing I had. After eating sides, it spoils your dinner which I guess was fine in this case since the food wasn't very good. The manager did make the bill right. With all the positive reviews I would hope this was an off night. We sat outdoors which was not very pleasant beside the highway. I have been going to Daytona for years and have never heard of this place until our recent trip. Everything was phenomenal, we went on a Thursday afternoon for lunch and ordered the salt and pepper catfish basket and the pecan crusted chicken sandwich. Both were amazing! The all you can eat cinnamon rolls made fresh were also delicious and hard to stop going back for more. I liked how the sides are served buffet style and that grits were an option on the buffet! Our server was attentive, sweet and very helpful as we have a baby and needed a high chair and other items for him. Can't wait to go back! Very busy place! Service was excellent and food was delicious. The place is a bit noisy, and the help yourself "Fixins Bar" is usually crowded at dinner time, but staff keeps refilling as needed. The night we went the plates were so hot because they just came out of the dish dryer. Anyway, if you want to eat clean/ healthy, this place is probably not for you. If you want truly delicious comfort food, and don't forget the Cinnamon Rolls, you will not be disappointed! Personally I did not like their cole slaw recipe. My parents took me here on a family vacation when I was a grumpy teenager. I'm now a grumpy adult - and I've never forgotten the great meal we had there. So when we decided to go all retro for our family get-together, I INSISTED we go back to Aunt Catfish's. It was almost as good as my memory. You need to know - it's really hard to get in here. We called at 4:30 pm for "call ahead seating" on a random Wednesday night in June - NOT during Bike Week or Truck Week... and at 4:30 the wait was already over 2.5 hours. No kidding. So we planned ahead for the next day... made the call for "call-ahead seating" for a 4:00 PM time at like noon (they don't take reservations but they will "put you on a list"). We managed to snag a spot and only had to wait about 15 minutes when we arrived. It's a popular place. The location is beautiful. Right on the river (hence the name). And they managed to seat our party of 7 with a great view. It's not a huge place - and that contributes to the long wait times. It's worth it. But plan ahead. Their salad bar is divine. This was a retro trip so I loved the salad bar touch - you never see that anymore. And this one is good. Fantastically southern with that rich RED "French" dressing. Fresh, homemade croutons. Delicious cornbread. I was full after the delicious salad and bread. But there is also the "fixins bar".... OH MY... beans, fried apples... so much southern lovely things. Yes, this is everything from my memories... Entrees come with the cinnamon rolls. Have mercy. And then the hush puppies... delightful. It was an abundance of goodness. I had the shrimp and grits. A bit too sweet for my taste, but still super fresh shrimp. And I was so full I could only take a few bites before I had to ask to have it packed up... for later. My parents really enjoyed the catfish. My niece got the salmon from the kids menu... beautiful. She ate it all. My Sister-in-Law didn't love the pineapple fluff with the sweet potato fries as much as she thought she would - but that's a weird concept to begin with. Service was fantastic. AND BONUS - since you really need to come early to get in here, they have a discounted menu for "early birds"... so prices are surprisingly reasonable. Very popular place. We arrived on a Thurs evening at around 7. We were given a beeper and told it was a 40 min wait. Hubby grabbed us a few of the most delicious margaritas I have ever tasted. The wait was only about 20 min. They have a lovely dock area where you can wait. There are benches. We were seated by a window (yay!). They have a salad bar and I must admit that I didn't think I would go for it. I walked over for a preview and WOW.....I went for it ! Every meal actually includes the salad bar. It wasn't too big of a bar. The items were fresh and the bar was well kept. I enjoyed the salad very much. Hubby has a love for catfish (which is why we came). The catfish did not disappoint. He said it was delicious and well cooked. I had the fried shrimp and it was also delicious. Green beans for my side made me feel a bit on the "healthy" side. Wish we had room for dessert. Told it was a 45 min wait and we waited 6.....love a host that pads her numbers but that's a little extreme, not complaining though. Bartender was heavy handed so the drinks were a value. So this is a combination between Red Lobster and Denny's. If that excites you, then come on over. Their menu is priced based on and all you can eat buffet of sides. The buffet itself is about 6' long with small plates and about 8 choices of side dishes. The coleslaw and cornbread was quite good. They are also famous for their cinnamon rolls. Three stars because the main course is "reduced" in relationship to the value of what you may eat in the all you can eat side dish bar. I had the crab cake, it had clearly been prepared in mass. It was half an inch thick about the size of a McDonald's hamburger. The hush puppies that came with it were also very average. So for $18 not a great value. We are local and have been to Aunt Catfish's many times. As usual, we had great service. However, we noticed some changes like with the seating area. The other change is lack of salad bar. That salad bar was the best! Now, they have a cinnamon roll area, which was nice but not having the salad bar was a disappointment. Our dinner was 6 fried shrimp and one side plus and the fixin's bar. Aunt Catfish needs to work on how to bring the salad bar back. I'm giving them 3 stars for lack of salad bar. read more

The table next to us had a AC vent that was dripping water (assume condensation) who noted that to their server who basically said someting to the effect that they were aware of this and someone came around about every 15 minute to wipe it down. We decided to stop in on Easter Sunday and I have to say one of the best ever Calm Chowders that I have had. I actually order two bowls because 1 was not enough. I keep craving it too......my hubby ordered the shark and I ordered the fried calms. The calms was the biggest clams I have ever had. like completely YUMMY!!! they are known for there cinnamon rolls too YUMMY and warm. The waiter we had was so informative on the menu. I was at some friends house for dinner when Aunt Catfish was brought up as "The place to eat" when in Daytona Beach. It was described as such an amazing eatery that we made plans that very night to go at a future date, and so we went on a rainy Sunday evening. You'd think that with the rain it probably wouldn't be as busy as described to us. Nope. Actually, a busload of people arrived shortly after we were given a buzzer and told it was a 1 hour and 10 minute wait. In the meantime we walked down the dock and took pics of that cool looking catfish and watched mullet jump out of the water; it was really nice. On weekends they have live music and Steve was pretty good playing the keyboards, guitar, and saxophone all himself. The food It seems expensive, yes, but you know what? One meal can easily feed 2 people especially if your meal includes salad bar and fixins bar. That cinnamon roll was TO DIE FOR, and yet... it's the Catfish that's supposed to stand out as stellar given that the restaurant is named that. I personally didn't think so though. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but I wouldn't say exceptional. I tried both traditional fried and blackened cajun. However, the sauces that came with it were very good so I was able to get flavor in that way. I could easily just order the salad bar and fixins bar as a meal and still leave 20 pounds heavier as most people seem to after dining here. First time here (7/8). Let's start with the good. Our 2 bartenders were fantastic! Very friendly, super efficient and completely willing to adjust the drink to my request. They made recommendations about the menu (which I took) and were extremely professional and projected the exact welcome you would want portrayed in your business. The food was also very good. I enjoyed the recommended blackened unicorn fish. It was cooked very well and had just the right amount of seasoning so the flavor of the fish wasn't overpowered. My husband had the pecan catfish. Also a nice option with 2 large fillets generously coated in pecans. Where there is some work to do. Our server needs a training refresh. Never asked how our food was, didn't remove any plates, didn't refill our water, didn't ask if we wanted dessert. Basically took our order and then literally handed us the check. He was personable enough but just not a great server. The front of the house staff is so important to an overall experience and it's unfortunate how our first visit went. There's a great view while you're dining too. Entrees come with a visit to the hot bar with my favorites being the potato salad, beets and cheese grits. I had the catch of the day, red snapper. I was passing through, heading to Millie's (never been there before either) and saw this spot. It wasn't listed in my top five but I thought I'd try it anyway. Service reps were amazing. In fact I overheard a concern that a customer had with miscommunication on a order up charge. The manager (clay) handle it with exceptional customer care. The food was good but the layout is so bad, it's not my ideal atmosphere. The place need to be remodeled in a bad way! My table felt as though it was going to fall into the lake.
