I had mourned the loss of "the kolache shop" on burnet when they tore down that shopping center to put in apartments. I searched but nowhere could a reference to moving... it appeared to be totally gone. Well, there is this little place on mesa that had some cream cheese kolaches that caused me to have a happy dance,,, they tasted the same as i remembered Yes, they are the same folk! They added a pizza guy and those luchtime slices are so good also!! Rejoice! What was lost is now found!! Wonderfully authentic kolaches and cinnamon twists! And cute little shop. read more

Locally owned. They get all their meats from another local business, Hudson's meat market. I'm so happy they are open on Sunday now! Don't have much time for this review, and if this was the only time service was bad, I may give more than one star. Now then... 1. I get there around 7:40am, so they've been open for less than an hour. The counter lady is chatting away with the customer ahead of me for a few minutes....no biggie, but.... 2. Right when the customer leaves and the phrase "Sausage and Cheese Kolache" comes out of my mouth, a guy from the back walks in and proceeds to take all the sausage and cheese kolaches, of which there were 4 left. So when this phrase finally gets out of my head she says "we re out. There's a phone order" me "but I'm right here in person" her "hehehe"....not even a sorry So nevermind that this is directly because of her talking up the previous customer, but less than an hour after you open you run out? really?? 3. OK, brush it off, very annoying but I'm sure I can find something else for my wife....ham and swiss, so I order that, along with one other kolache and some other egg/cheese/sausage ball/whatever thing. She rings it up and says something like "$13-whatever", I say can I please see that order....after a sec she gets back to the itemized list, and she's double-charging me for one of the kolaches. To which she says "I didn't do that, I don't know why that happened." No sorry, no responsibility, nothing. After several minutes of her trying to figure out how to cancel the order or remove the extra charge (don't bother asking someone in the back for help), I tell her I'll come back later and walk out. I was very happy with these kolaches! The kolache had real sausage and the jalapeño flavor had a great kick to it. The bread is very soft and the flavor is great. I really enjoyed the desert kolache - I ordered the apple flavor and it tasted like a mini apple pie! Recommend this location! It is a little noticeable that the owner is stern with the young worker at the front. Additionally the owner forgot about the coffee i ordered for quite a while. This place is the absolute definition of a hidden gem, almost literally. I actually had a really tough time finding this place and got confused a lot. It's pretty hidden overall. But once you find it, you will be rewarded. I got the sausage kolaches which were great and everything you would hope and expect. BUT the star of the show was the bacon and cheese klobasnek!!! I took it home to enjoy and may have burned it a little in the Air fryer (don't judge me). But it was still amazing! Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and it was not crowded at all. They still had a good variety of kolaches and pastries left too. I got served immediately and got the jalapeño cheddar kolache as well as a ham and Swiss one. Both were really good especially when warmed. 3.5 for me The kolaches were pretty good here. I appreciated that the sausage, jalapeño, and cheese packed some heat behind it. I also liked that the kolaches had real fruit and real sausages. The bread tasted fresh and was soft! In my opinion, saying that these are the best kolaches is kinda stretching it though because they taste like normal kolaches. What was kind of uncomfortable was that I thought the older woman was dismissive to the young worker. She seems really sweet and was just asking for genuine help with checking out the customers here. YUM YUM YUM I was so impressed! I had never been here before but randomly stumbled upon it. It's tucked off burnet but has plenty of parking. The gals inside were so sweet and amazing. *Don't forget to mask up before entering!* but they also have curbside if that's your jam. They took the time to share their favorites and let me know about the local ingredients used in their kolaches! They also carry greater goods coffee and had almond milk. TLDR: Great morning breakfast stop The layout/location is pretty typical for a donut/kolache shop. very limited seating, glass case in the front, small cooler of drinks on the side, etc. It's not super comfortable, but places like this cater more with to-go orders anyways, so no big deal. I had a Jalapeno sausage and cheese Klobansek and a Kolache (not pictured). Both were very good. the bread was fluffy and tender, and the filling on both of theme was great. I also got an iced latte. one word of note on this is that it looks like all they have is a consumer level expresso machine, so the turn around time is much slower than at a traditional coffee shop. If you are here, sure grab one, but solely based on time, I wouldn't recommend coming here just for the coffee. read more

Very disappointed by the gentleman working behind the counter today 1/7 @2:04 P.M. I went to pick up my order from " Too good to go" and he seemed so upset to have to be at work today. He shoved kolaches in my bag very rudely and his customer service was subpar. Warm and welcoming cozy kolache place! The main baker lady is super friendly as well as a girl who is serving. She was so sweet. Kolache has a slightly sweet flavor like Hawaiian bread and it works wonderfully with savory egg, bacon and cheese. Filling was generous and nicely done. It made our day bright on a rainy day. My excitement that this place reopened was dampened by reading the reviews since their reopening, so glad I decided to check it out myself instead of relying solely on those reviews. First off, I would like to address the "doughy and under cooked" reviews. If this was for the ham and cheese ones - that is cheese in there, not raw dough. For the others, I cannot comment on what i have not tried yet - but you can bet that I will be going back. Now that is out of the way, let me continue with - WHAT AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE, as always in the past but even better now. Selection is about the same, yeah ok portion sizes are a bit smaller but not much and this IS a business.... Lots of great selections, great customer service - you get what you pay for. I was torn between 3 stars or 4. Ok so service / Amazing! Literally the nicest woman you've ever met in your life giving you sugar covered pastry's and Kolache. The Kolache is good but the dough is super sweet, even on the savory Kolache. It's on the verge of too sweet for me but not quite. I ordered a sausage and cheese, sausage jalapeño and cheese, the ham and cheddar, a raspberry filled and a cinnamon bun. (Not all for me lol!!!!) The sausage and cheese was sausage egg and cheese, it was good but it's weird to eat cold eggs. The jalapeño sausage was the best. Unfortunately the ham and cheese was inedible- the dough was completelyyyyyyyy raw. We threw it in the oven for like 15 minutes but it was still raw in the center so we gave up on it. Cinnamon bun was amazing and oddly less sweet than the Kolache dough. This is probably a 3 star review but honestly they were so nice I'm still giving it 4. This whole kolaches/klobasniki craze must be a Texan thing because I'm not understanding the magic. I expected something similar to piroshkis, but the dough is significantly less flaky and the fillings taste more Texan than European (so, processed and artificial). Which may not necessarily be a bad thing depending on what you like, but I prefer traditional piroshkis much more. I hated how everything was given to us cold. And everything--sweet or savory, it didn't matter--was all packed in the same bag! So my cinnamon roll smelled like sausage. Ugh. Out of all the klobasniki we tried, the Ham & Swiss was the clear winner (it's also the most expensive). Their cream cheese kolache and cinnamon roll weren't bad either and would probably be pretty tasty if they were heated up...but overall there was nothing amazing about our experience here that would make this a must-have the next time I visit Austin. read more

I found this place after doing a google search for a kolache place near me. I never knew this place existed. It's very hidden and not well advertised. It's in the same shopping center as the old Dallas Nightclub. It's kind of confusing, since the sign outside is Kolache Shoppe and the the name everywhere is Kolache Creation. I came here on a Saturday morning, there was plenty of parking out front. There is not a lot in this shopping center with Dallas Night Club being gone an all, so parking should never be an issue. I ordered a lot of different things because I wanted to be able to give this place a fair try. I ordered the cinnamon twist and it was a little too hard for my liking. The cinnamon roll wasn't anything special. I got the sausage and cheese, the breading was good, but the sausage was tiny, so there was 90% bread 10% sausage and hardly any cheese. I also got the bacon and cheese one and that was good, a ton of bacon in it. The sausage and jalapeno was a completely different from sausage and cheese, like the sausage was not the same. There is one table inside with 4 chairs, but it was being used to hold bread, it was fairly slow so we were able to sit outside on the picnic table and chat and enjoy our items. I guess they don't normally warm up your items, but he did when I requested it. Overall I wasn't impressed with the options and the quality here. Pretty much one of the best kolaches and klobasnek I've had in Central Texas, up there with Dos Gatos in San Marcos. Perfect amount of chew to the bread, fillings are on point, and there's great quality sausage. Curbside was super chill and easy to do too. read more

The best place to get kolaches in Austin (IOHO) is Central Market. These are a secret stash that they only make on weekend mornings and, when the craving strikes, we're usually there in time to snag a couple before they sell out. (You're welcome for this intel, by the way.) But our luck ran out this past Saturday and we had to find a new kolache source, hence we ended up here. The place is small and there's no seating set up and even though we got there in the 10 am-ish timeframe, they were out of most of the stock that we were interested in. We ended up with a cinnamon roll (daughter's choice), a peach kolache (they were out of apricot), and a sausage cheese one. The cinnamon roll was too airy and dry and not that good; the peach one was made with treacly stuff straight from a jar; the sausage one was decent but nowhere near CM-level quality. Normally this would be 3 stars, but we're bumping down to two because of customer service--or lack thereof. There was one person working and she was sssslllllllooooooooow. There were two really annoying ladies in front of us who kept changing their order, demanding more boxes, bags, etc., and it just took forever. When we finally got served (with several people waiting behind us), she apologized for being short staffed, but that kind of excuse just doesn't sit well with us: why do you not have someone else on deck to help you out on what you knew would be a rainy Saturday morning? And why do you have your elementary school grandson(?) running rampant around the tiny space? Just, no. Professionalism still counts! We will not be back, and as much as we love to tout and support local businesses, we would not advise people to spend their money here. read more

Friends of Czech heritage brought me here in the '80's to introduce me to the sweet, light doughy roll of fruity convection. There is also this collapsed cinnamon roll and other treats however I recommend starting with a savory sausage and cheese or maybe the bacon, cheese and egg then moving on to the cheese filled kolache then a raspberry one then...you got the idea! Kolaches are Czech pastries that were brought by immigrants to Texas and became very popular in the state. They are super soft and sweet buns with a filling on the top in the middle (e.g. fruit, meat, etc.). Kolache Shoppe is a hole in the wall type spot within a shopping plaza. As I was waiting in line, I overheard locals discussing the Shoppe and agreeing its kolaches were the best in the United States. Since I have only tried Kolache Shoppe, I have no basis to verify that statement. Nevertheless, its kolaches were definitely incredible. I did not expect them to taste so good. I ordered two kolaches. The first was a ham and swiss, which was like a breakfast sandwich. The second one was fruit: peach. I noticed a lot of peach farms in the area surrounding Austin when I drove around. For this reason, I was not surprised the peach kolaches were top notch. I also overheard the locals raving about the cinnamon twists and sticky buns. It was probably for the best that the last sticky buns on the counter were sold to customers in front of me. I did not want to wait for the next batch. It saved me from eating even more than I did. Nonetheless, I ordered a cinnamon twist to try it. It was unreal how good it was and hands down the best cinnamon twist I have ever eaten. Kolache Shoppe is open from 7AM-2PM and closed on Sundays.
