Autopia was THE attraction that made me love Disneyland when I was a kid. Honestly I think I will be in love with this attraction even when I come back here with my own kids, it just has That Disney magic. People do have to remember that this is a kid's attraction, and its made to fulfill a younger audience's pleasure. The automobiles aren't super fast and you won't be able to experience a racy thrill, but for a kid who's still stuck sitting in the back seat of their parent's car under the law--this is a Dream Come True. If I could get a ticket or arrested for driving like how I do and my "road rage" on this ride, I probably would have a million times over. Never EVER, take this ride when it's hot and crowded. It's just not worth it. I only go on this ride when there's barely a line and at night when it's cool with kids. I used to "race" with my cousins and my brother by just hoping into the first car of the lanes. I also create the traffic jams. Lol. Suckas! The ride itself is nice. I love the breeze and the scenic route that they had made up. I usually don't drive because I already have a car but when my cousins are too scared to drive, I pedal-to-the-metal and don't even bother with the steering wheel. I mean we're already on a rail for god sakes! I actually got in trouble for doing that and of course my occasional road bumping. Good thing I know where most of the cast members are hanging out. I have always avoided this ride at Disneyland. The last time I rode it (Disney World in the 1980's) it was amazing. If you're a kid, the experience of driving a mini-car is epic; however the allure of the "tiny car" on track loses its luster as you age. All that being said, I rode it last time when at park with friend (nostalgic reasons of course) and it was awesome. To stick with 1980's theme, it was like going Back to the Future. Tomorrowland cars are good for kids, but kinda boring for adults. For starters, the line is long and almost completely in the sun, so it can get pretty bad while waiting on hot days. They have FastPasses, but only sometimes. Once you get in the actual car, the gas pedals are hard to pump and I'm always worried about hitting the car in 'front of me. IT'S NOT BUMPER CARS!!! This is one of those rides that will always be nostalgic for me, but I don't need to go on it every time I go to Disneyland. Yes, there is two of us! and yes, that's a Homestar Runner reference. Poor poor poor you. You're so woefully misborn. Not misinformed, mind you, just misborn. My third-grade teacher was named Mrs. Borne. Or maybe it was Miss Borne. In any case, I can still picture her, even though she probably looks nothing like herself now. The old cars were better, but you used to get whiplash. I think my mom did get whiplash. I really want to swim in the old submarine area, before it became Ariel's Grotto or whatever. It was a Kodak Vista Point, and I always wanted my dad to take out his Kodak camera and take a picture for posterity, because when I was a child I really and truly bought into all that stuff, and I'm the most anti-corporate person ever, and maybe that's why I fear for my nieces and nephews' future. That and the end of climatic normalcy, but you know, whatever, we'll just keep designing new iPhones because as long as you're cool, reality doesn't matter, right? Watch the video of the murderer on Muni, and check out all the people looking at their phones as he brandishes his pistol. Not that anyone really could have done anything about it. I know, I know, you can't actually watch the entire video. But you can see lots of it. All I'm sayin' is Autopia isn't as dystopian as it used to be, and that's because people are bigger lemmings/automatons/sheep now than they were when they were just doing their makeup in bumper-to-bumper traffic. I feel really bad for the cast members at this ride...inhaling all of these fumes can't be good... The ride used to be fun when I was a kid, and driving was unheard of for me. I find now that the pedal is so hard to press and the fumes are disgusting. The steering wheel is so hard to control and I don't really want to touch it too much, because it's usually sticky and covered with some gross stuff that leaves residue all over my hands. Now that I drive an actual car, this ride has become a little mehhh for me. read more

Okay, I understand the appeal of this to anyone under the legal driving age, but why drive in traffic to get to Disneyland to then stand in line to drive a car that goes even slower? Must be the hum and sputter of all of those mini engines. Plus the desire to ram into the toddler in front of you. It makes no sense, but the damn thing is certainly fun. What a waste of gas. It's slightly unbelievable that in 2014 this ride still even exists, as the novelty of driving cars has looooong since passed, but they're still using gas to power these things? This ride is why it cost me 45 bucks to fill my tank yesterday. They couldn't have figured out a different way to get these cars moving by now? Disney's supposed to be better than this. This ride has stood the test of time and even though I hate when rides are replaced, I actually wouldn't mind seeing this one get a huge facelift. It just recently underwent an upgrade after being sponsored by Honda but when we rode Autopia last week, nothing really seemed any different. There are Honda hood emblems on each of the cars now but other than that, the changes are too subtle for me to find. I can sit in slow traffic on any freeway in Los Angeles or Seattle so why would I want to do it on a ride? The kids love it and they especially love it when they are finally tall enough to drive the car by themselves and it is one of those must ride attractions when you visit. I find that if you don't ride something while you are there, you may not ever get to if they remove the ride so you might as well do it while you can. The cars are all limited to a nice slow speed and they say not to bump the cars in front of you however most people don't follow that rule and they do plow right into you if given the chance. There were no real repercussions for the people that did hit other cars so I guess it's okay. They used to give you an honorary driver's license upon exiting the ride but now that they have photo booths that can add your photo to the license, you have to pay $5.00 per just to get one. Definitely not worth it in my mind. If you're looking for go-karts, these really aren't it but if you want to get off of your feet for a few minutes then check out Autopia. The pedal is hard to push, which doesn't make the ride enjoyable. But this is a fun ride if someone else drives & you can just sit back, cruise, & take some action shots! I believe this ride is most fun for kids. They get to actually drive a car around on a pretty, park-like track. Most kids under 5 feet are definitely going to need help with the pedal. They are toy cars and the pedal is really hard to keep down. Like: -the pretty trees and flowers out on the track -fun to drive at night: temperatures are cooler, and it's fun to watch the fireworks while driving. -kids get to drive! -only worth it if the line is under 15 mins! dislike: -the heat during the day -the fumes -don't get a fastpass, it doesn't help much anyway -possibility to get stuck behind a stalled car or really slow driver, especially if they are grown adults lol! read more

A very fun place to drive in cars without having to pay for gas.

Autopia provides kids who can reach the pedal a freeway-like driving experience. One to three riders can pack into a single tiny diesel powered car can on a track to follow a series of freeway like on ramps and off ramps through tomorrow land. The attraction does give sense of going somewhere, however be prepared for plenty of pile ups when the youngest drivers encounter operational difficulties. As a child it was my sister's favorite attraction since she relished the adult like control of driving. I on the other hand, vehemently boycotted it as I already found traffic annoying. A plus is the opportunity to buss around some otherwise unseen parts of tomorrow land. A big minus is that the vehicles completely turn off when you are forced to stop due to traffic. read more

This ride is usually ok, but this time we got stuck for over an hour under the blaring, hot sun! My poor kids were drenched in sweat and exhausted. They did give us all a fast pass for any ride in the park.....but......I do not think I will go back on this again. read more

Autopia - Been stuck behind a stalled car for 20 min :( under this blaring heat!!!! - Amusement Parks Near Me - Anaheim, California

Okay, I don't get what it is about this sacred cow that so many seem to love, but it needs to go to the meat processing plant. A) This is the PAST of transportation, or at least present, not TOMORROW at all. "Wow, these here 'automobiles' are some crazy inventions, ma!" Nothing like the choking fumes that these suckers emit in clouds. SoCal really needs more of that. B) This track takes up about 1/5 of the park! In case you haven't noticed Disneyland is surrounded now. Space is a premium. Just think of all the cool, futuristic things that could be put here to actually make Tomorrowland look like tomorrow. C) This ride SUCKS. Sucks. Sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks, sucks. It's the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. Nearly EVERY theme park has one of these overblown Go-Karts, and you can ride better tracks in little ma & pa "amusement parks" anywhere in this nation. Why on God's green earth would you want to waste your time at the Happiest Place on Earth in a traffic jam? It's slow, it's boring, it's pointless, and it doesn't fit the theme of the area it's in anymore. Get rid of this already and put in something interesting. You want to show people futuristic transportation? Put in a demo ride of that one guy's flying cars he's invented. Put in something space oriented. Put in ANYTHING other than a mini-freeway. read more

At the moment, one of the kid's favorites. The line is always long on days I go. The line wouldn't be so bad if it didn't take you upstairs, around, down a long corridor, through a tunnel, around, through a turnstile and back down the stairs (even on the rare occasion when it's only a 5 minute line). Took me longer to get through the obstacle course of a line than it did to actually ride the ride. Besides that, the ride is fun and allows the kid to get his need to drive out. read more

On a nice sunny day I love this ride! I just got the fastpass with the boyfriend and we drove around to pass the time. It was way more fun when I was a kid because you got to drive along the track by yourself, but going 6 mph can be frustrating for an adult haha. read more

Another classic Disney ride from my childhood, where the memory is better than the actual ride. The cars are slow, and people in front of you may choose to stop at any time. Nostalgia review warning - a current review would be 2 stars. Nostalgia first; as a child I would ride this incessantly. I loved the fact you could drive a car round a track, albeit constrained by a metal track to run along. Part of the skill would be to go round as fast as possible without making contact with the center track, possible but hard as a child. I'd finish my drive and then rush back round and line up again. My poor parents. Could not understand how I could ride this again and again! Brings back a good memory. As an adult, the lines for this ride are long. And I mean long. The cars seem like the same from when I raced them as a child which is not a good sign. Much slower than before, but then more weight to carry round now! :'( I also found that they must have put way more cars on track because traffic jams galore on some of the lanes!! But what do you expect? It runs on gas and its for kids so I don't think they are going to make the ride any faster. I'm sure kids go crazy for this attraction, driving a car down the track that twists and turns its way through Disneyland, under monorails, over unpaved terrains. Honestly, I am surprised autopia still exists now that Carsland is here with significantly better car-themed attractions. Every time I've gone on Autopia, there's been a problem with the car I'm driving, such that it won't accelerate or brake properly, and it basically turns into bumper cars. I guess I get it for little kids who would maybe be scared by how fast Radiator Springs Racers gets, or for people who might get motion sick from all the spinning in Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, but even then, I feel like there are at least a dozen better options than Autopia. I realize that it's one of the original rides at the park, but just because it was there first, doesn't mean it can't be improved upon, or replaced with something better. Don't waste your time here! read more

I havent been on this ride in 23 years. As an adult now, I found the ride jerky and boring. If you have to wait to get back to the loading area, your car will probably die and you'll have to pump the gas. And they wanted $5 for a souvenir drivers license...rip off. read more

My second best ride, not exactly a ride, in Disneyland. Autopia has been around for as long as I can remember as a youngin' and still brings back the kid in me. The line to the ride runs fairly quickly. The road, although rocky and bumpy, really made me feel like I was driving a real vehicle as a kid. The only drawback and unforgettable was the toxic smell of gas or at the bottom. I'm sure it's not run on actual gas, but whatever chemical it's run on, it's pretty toxic. Overall, still a fun ride. read more

Not exactly a fan of this ride. During my experience, the driver in front was driving extremely slow while she took selfies of herself and my car's engine had a few problems trying to start up at the end of the track. We always like riding Autopia. The line was not very long and it went pretty quick even with only one side of the ride going. We used our fast pass which was available less than hour after we got it. All of the cast members were nice and did a great job. My daughter and I had a great time. It did take a little while to unload. We had to sit there in our cars waiting. Ok so we all remember those days as kids wanting to drive a car and this is as close as we could get until we were able to get our permits! With that being said, not a lot of adults without kids ride this but it's still fun to do none the less. There are two lines here and 8 cars per line and there is still a wait (there is no fast pass available here). The car does drive on its own but you need to press the stop and go pedal (keep that in mind parents). They have signs everywhere on the track to make sure not to crash into the other person in front of you (but you can get away with it if you are careful). It's a great and classic ride, you get a fake license that can be found all over the ride so maybe they should stop giving those out as it only causes trash. Oh and yes the smoke on these cars are bad but that's only because the gas tank right behind you. read more

This ride is fun .. kids love being able to actually drive. The ride lasts longer than a lot of other rides and the lines move pretty quickly and smoothly. This ride also always has the nicer staff. The one thing that really needs to be changed is Bird repeating himself over and over. Having to hear that non stop while waiting in line gets quite annoying. I let my daughter do the driving and based on her experience she just wishes the cars went faster. I love the scenery and the few cute car statues through-out. I think it's a pretty relaxing experience and reminds me of just cruising through the mountains. Why is everyone in a hurry anyway?? The line moves pretty quickly since it's a constant flow of cars. I think the really young kids enjoy it since they get to drive; but when your kid is 9 going on 16 they want more of a real life driving experience. read more

As a young boy, Autopia was a favorite of mine. It brings back memories of my childhood. Now that Im grown up, it seems to have lost its charm. I rode it the last time my parents and I went to Disneyland, and it seemed boring and SO SLOW. I know one thing though. For young kids, it will fully initiate them in the magic that is Disneyland. I plan on taking my nephew on this ride, and i am sure he will love it, just like I did at his age. read more

This is an old-style ride with fume-belching cars running on a track, but it is a long-time Disneyland tradition harkening back to the park's early days when "the freeway" was the wave of the future and, though already spreading, was only just really beginning (sadly) to take over the country. It also is a nice chance for little kids to get at least some sense of actually driving a car since they do get to control it slightly even though it stays on the track. It's hardly an amazing experience but it's a good, solid, old-style ride. I was never really a big fan of the ride myself and generally didn't bother with it even as a kid, but for my kids both love this ride and it has always been one of their favourites. I can never get enough of driving these little cars around, and around. I miss the Corvette styled bodies they did away with in the mid-90's, as the ones they have now look like shit. No matter. It's all the same under the hood. The track is much longer as I think they combined the two tracks during the mid-90's remodel. I like that they have an old midget Autopia car statue along the track still. Back in the 50's there was a third track for smaller kids with even smaller cars so they could ride alone without an adult chaperone. The statue is a small reminder of the past. The cars go maybe 5 mph at the most, and if you pull up on the gas pedal with your foot you can lock up the brakes to make a screeching sound with your tires. The ride is still very popular and you can usually expect a 30 minute wait at the least. read more
