These 1 star reviews were puzzling. I rented a truck through Budget. The woman who helped me during the reservation was super friendly and helpful, gave me all the necessary information and a couple helpful tips on refueling as I am not familiar with diesel. She even upgraded to a longer truck with a lift for no charge, which I was completely grateful for. I couldn't return the truck on time that day, so the manager let me know that I could simply park the truck there after hours and return the key the following morning when they opened. Reserved a truck for Friday morning at 9am. I get there at 9:15 and the lady at the desk tells me that they are out of trucks and they have nothing left in inventory. The lady then proceeds to tell me that there are other people too, besides myself that won't be getting a truck. My biggest complaint is why didn't they call me when they opened? instead i have to drive down there and find out they don't have any trucks. Also why would it allow me to reserve a truck and send me a confirmation email, only to find out the day of my move that there are no trucks available. Obviously this business isn't managed well, and they can't keep track of inventory. I ended up driving around Fullerton to find a truck to rent last minute. I ended up using Uhaul, and will never use budget again thanks to them causing me a big inconvenience and more stress on my move out date. read more

Maybe the previous reviews got unlucky. As I was on my way to pick up our rental, I was reading reviews and I got a little worried. We arrived, it was open, and we were taken care of immediately. We were conversing with the lady helping us about what we had planned for the weekend, a trip to San Francisco with five people in a sedan. She sounded a little worried that we'd be too squished so she mentioned to us that she had a cancellation on a van and offered it to us. +1 for them! The difference was about $15 a day which wasn't bad. I had booked online and paid $75 (snuck in some coupons), and at the end of our rental paid another $110. Sadly, my dad fell into the sales trap of buying the insurance instead of just relying on our own. She made a lot of sense though... As we were 'checking out' the van they made sure they got every little scratch and dent on the van to make sure we wouldn't be responsible for it when we returned it. Very tedious work but better safe than sorry. I'd give them another +1 for this! Returned the van with no problems. Farther than many other rental car companies for me but I would probably rent from the again if need be. FYI though, the morning we went to pick up our rental, apparently one of the cars that had been left there by a customer got broken in to. So don't leave your car there. read more

I am almost confused reading some of these one star comments: totally left field. I rented a car here for two days. I called 2 hrs before my pick up and asked for a ride from my hotel but she said she was short staff and cannot do so. I thought that was definitely reasonable so I decided to run there as a cardio work out. When I arrived, the female manager apologized to me immediately and she was in fact the only one working. The manager gave me a free upgrade and was very apologetic. Returning the car was an ease and she actually gave me a ride this time because she had employees to man the counter. Give this place a shot, they must have improved by a bunch or the 1 star reviews are bogus. read more

I got a great price, it's in a centrally located area that's easy to get to (although a little industrial), roxy and niry (sp?) were really nice and helpful. i went to drop off a car today and the woman there was so rude and unprofessional. she tried to overcharge me for the pot smell in the car that was there when i picked it up from bakersfield - which was documented. she refused to call bakersfield to confirm and yelled at me loudly, insisting that i pay. when i asked her to follow up she refused. she then called next avis rent a car on harbor and asked them to do the same, which didn't happen. she should be fired. NYREE was a total jerk and obviously has an attitude that should be nowhere near management or customer service. read more

The ladies who work at this location are awesome. It's a strange location on Orangethorpe and it's half a truck detailing/cleaning shop. They also rent out Hertz trucks. I always rent from this location unless they are closed. They aren't open on the weekends, and close early in the evening. First time I came here, I wanted to pick up my car one day early. No problem there, just had to wait a bit for the guy to finish cleaning it. The woman working there added another driver on there and waived the fee. Also took a debit card as the deposit even though she said they aren't supposed to. (I think most places can, they just don't want to?) Upon return, I was low on gas about 1/8 of a tank, and the girl who was there told me I was low, and asked if I wanted to go fill up the tank before she checked it in, otherwise I'd be paying $5/gallon. Wow! I had my bike in the trunk to ride back, and she even watched my bike while I went to fill up so I didn't have to take off the rim again and put it back in the trunk. I just wish they were open longer hours, on the times I've decided to go somewhere on a whim and need a rental. I can't stand going to other places. read more

I'm not a fan of 1-star reviews (check my profile, you'll see) but this place earned it! The short version is if you book a truck on-line from this location they will give you a worn-out truck which may leave you stranded. You will be lied to and treated poorly by the Manager and her family which work at this location. But if you call Budget's corporate hot line to complain you will get almost all of your money for your rental back! The longer version: This is for a review of the Budget brand moving trucks they rent from this location (same location as for Avis rental cars). Over the past few years I've rented moving trucks from this location five times (I have a lot of nomadic friends) and have never had a problem, until last weekend when I needed a 16' truck. I booked the truck a week in advance, on-line and received a small discount (this comes into play later). I go to pick the truck up Friday afternoon and of course had to deal with the manager who is rude (the phrase is 'Hello, how can I help you?' That will go a long ways towards making your customers feel welcome). She of course lied about needing insurance "Your auto policy won't cover this truck!" (Uh, thanks but I checked, mine does). Then gives me the Mom lecture about how this is a large vehicle (uh, thanks I drive a larger truck then this everyday for work, did you not notice I gave you a commercial driver's license?) So after getting the third degree (and more lies about when the truck has to be returned by, which went against what was clearly listed on the contract) her surly son walks me outside to the worst moving truck I've ever seen (and I used to rent from U-Haul, believe me when I say I've seen some lousy trucks!) The truck is beat-up with nearly 200K miles on it. It's filthy and when I asked about that I was told "we don't wash trucks on Friday's, just rental cars". Good to know and hey, more great customer service! I drove the truck to my house and checked it out more completely. The cargo area was covered in fine concrete dust, it had not been cleaned at all. The cab (where you sit) was covered in dirt and grease. One of the tires was bald, it was completely out of radiator coolant and the passnger-side door required the use of a strap to close. I called to find-out if I could exchange this truck for another and was told by the surly Manager, "No. That's the truck you get." When I explained about the mechanical problems with the truck (I'm a commercial driver so getting a ticket for bald tires or worse a wreck would cause problems for me at work) and was told that since I wasn't driving it far it would be fine. When I mentioned how filthy the truck was and that I wanted a discount (especially since there are decals all over the truck stating anything returned dirty would be charged a $25 penalty) I was told I'd already received a discount when I ordered the truck on-line. Here's where a sad story gets happier. I contacted Budget's corporate office. These people were great! They apologized for the treatment I'd received from the place where I rented the truck, basically gave me a refund of almost the whole amount I'd paid and waived any penalty for dropping the truck-off late so I wouldn't have to deal with the people at the office again! So will I rent from Budget again? Absolutely! Will I rent from this location again? Uh, no! read more

First time renting from Avis and I can say is it was a good experience. They have very competitive rates and cars in every size. I drove a 2018 Ford Fusion and the car was completely clean inside and out. When I returned the car the process was fast. I ended up paying exactly the quoted price and had zero complaints. Terrible place. I rented a budget truck and returned it, no problems. I'd give them a 4 or 5 based on that experience. But now, 4 months later, I get a bill for $220.00 because the truck was damaged when I returned it. They inspected it when I returned it and signed me out! I am trying to resolve this but I am not dealing with this Budget location, it is a 3rd party claims processor who has no interest in looking at my documents disputing this, only collecting. This is a nightmare and this place is a dishonest racket - stay away! read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Picked up my rent a car today and not only was it gross on the outside, but completely disgusting on the inside. Latex gloves, trash, and other stuff still inside the vehicle. I had to sanitize it myself and get it washed just to see out of the windows. If you're trying to stay safe during this pandemic and renting a vehicle from here, I would wear gloves and bring sanitizing spray before you get in it! read more

Outstanding service. Roxy made our family trip happen! I travel several times a year to Northern California to visit family, and often choose to drive a rental car when I go. Though I generally prefer Enterprise, I chose AVIS for this trip because of a very favorable price through Costco Travel. Originally I reserved at the N. Harbor, Fullerton AVIS office, which is very close to my home. I have separately reviewed the abysmal service at that location, which I did not actually use. For this trip, I specifically needed and reserved a full sized sedan-style car that could accommodate my 90+ year old, disabled mother-in-law, as well as sufficient trunk space for her walker and the luggage of four senior citizen ladies, myself and said MIL included. An SUV would not do, as MIL cannot get in and out of a vehicle that high off the ground. Because I knew the N. Harbor AVIS location mostly has SUVs, I went to their office one day ahead of my reservation, to verify I'd get the kind of car I needed and had reserved, NOT an SUV. The counter gentleman made virtually NO effort to assure AVIS could accommodate my specific request. Since this location showed absolutely no interest in being of service, I left to find an alternative option elsewhere. Indeed, I was willing to spend more at another company if needed. Fortunately I didn't have to do that. THIS AVIS office on East Orangethorpe in Fullerton more than fulfilled my needs. When I explained my special request to Roxy, the counter attendant/manager, she got it right away and made every effort to assure me she could help. Indeed, she IMMEDIATELY rearranged her rental car assignments to make sure I'd get a full sized sedan with a big trunk. She also advised I call back later that day to again verify my assigned vehicle. I can happily say that the rental went exactly as promised and our trip was a great success, in part because of the care and service from Roxy at this East Orangethorpe AVIS office. My family and I are exceedingly grateful. read more

I went back and forth for a couple weeks deciding if I should leave a negative review about this business or leave things unsaid, and in the end, I decided that I do not want another renter to go through the same terrible experience I did. I gave this location a try as it was close to my home, and the deal listed on line was excellent. Three days for $85 out the door with unlimited mileage, perfect for a quick trip to Las Vegas. When I arrived at this location I noticed that it was actually a Budget Rent A Truck store, with a small Avis counter inside. A far departure from the Avis' I have rented from in the past, but by no means a deal breaker. When I arrived I was met by a friendly woman who was eager to help me with my transaction. I gave her my reservation number and inquired how much an extra day would cost to rent my vehicle (just in case we ran late on the return day). She explained to me that it would be most cost effective to rent the vehicle at the weekly rate with the option to return the car after just three days, as I would receive a refund for the remaining four days unused. Unlike other rental companies such as Enterprise, Avis charges a $10 fee should you extend your reservation. So, I took the week as it was too good a deal to pass up, and let them run my credit card for the standard deposit. Imagine my surprise when I read the paperwork breakdown - the weekly rate was as promised an an excellent deal, but the NEW daily rate (should I only keep the vehicle for the three days) was now $55 a day, rather than $28 a day on my original on line reservation paperwork. When I brought this to the associates attention and broke the math down - it was clear that her weekly deal was not a better deal. In fact, renting for 3 days would now cost me $165 versus the original $85 I originally rented it for. She proceeded to blame this issue on her computer and agreed to start an entirely new contract for the original $85 for three days once I showed her the Avis confirmation email (guess the week was off the table), but I would have to put another deposit on my credit card and wait for the first one to fall off in a few days. Not convenient to have $500 in holds on your credit card when you are going out of town and need to reserve a hotel room as well. I agreed to keep the car at the weekly rate, as I had been in the office nearly one hour and needed to get on my way to my conference three hours away. She could see I was practically in tears, and to compensate me I was upgraded to a Mazda 3. A fair gesture until I was given the car. It had an unusual gym sweat smell, required a quick interior wash and vacuum (paid for by me) the front left fender was loose and the breaks had a squeaking sound on and off the entire week. At the end of my one week rental I returned the car back to the office. It was five minutes till closing (I had a friend with me who also had the same time on their cell) and was shooed away by the location attendee because she had already locked up and was counting cash. When we explained to her we only wanted top drop the keys (there is no key drop outside) she literally shook her head no. The next day I had to take a half day off of work unpaid to drop the vehicle back to Avis. When I arrived the associate who originally rented the car to me assisted me. I told her what happened the night before and how her employee had locked up early and was well into counting cash on the counter when we arrived. She explained that there was nothing she could do and would have to charge me for an extra day ($55 at the new "discounted rate") and also charged me a $10 extension fee. I asked if she could at lest take of the $10 fee, and she said NO. I tried to reason with her, but she insisted there was not a thing she could do for me, even after all the issues we had on the front end. To add insult to injury, she made sure to let me know this is an independent Avis location, owned and operated by...her family! I was in absolute shock that her hands were then so tied that she had no power to assist me in any manner. I know when I have hit a brick wall and decided to leave an not make a scene. Lucky I took a chance and called Avis, and explained to them the issue with returning my vehicle on time due to on of their associates. Within less than ten minutes on the phone, the extra days rental and extension fee was refunded to my credit card with a conformation number to verify the actual refund in three days time. While I will use Avis again in the future because their corporate office was extremely apologetic and gave me excellent customer service, I would never rent from this family owned location again. Aside from the horrible customer service, their "up selling" tactics are borderline bait and switch. I can't imagine being the owner of a business and not be empowered to resolve any type of customer service situations. Renters, please beware. Use a corporate owned Avis location at all costs. read more

We have used this family run Avis for years. We always receive personalized service and competitive prices. They have worked hard through this pandemic to provide for their customers. I never feel pressured to buy extras as I do when using rental car companies in other locations. Roxy and Nirey (spelling?) always greet us by name with smiles on their faces. They take the time to answer questions and go over contract details. We will continue to use Avis in Fullerton every time we need rental cars. read more

I would highly suggest NEVER using this location, as it's independently owned and apparently they like to engage in underhanded tactics to meet their business' financial goals. I most likely will avoid using Avis in the future because of the bad experience I had. The Hispanic woman working at the counter will possibly do or say anything to try to suck extra money out of your rental contract once you return the car. I rented a car for a two month period and I assume she was just unhappy that I returned it without an exterior car wash, which is not part of the contract. She asked me where I drove it, because it was kind of dusty or something. I told her how I used it, to drive back and forth to Laguna Niguel about 40 times, which didn't seem to satisfy her. (And seriously? This is drought-stricken Socal... expect things to get dusty, lady.) Then she accused me of smoking in the car, which was completely untrue as I don't smoke, but she claimed she could smell it in the car. I don't know what she thought she was smelling, I can only assume she was trying to crookedly suck more money out of me to pay for an exterior car wash. I objected as one would to the injustice, and she digs in and says I'm going to be charged for smoking in the car. What?! After giving them nearly $2k in my business, this is how I was treated. I left that place so mad. That woman needs to be fired. She was extremely rude, with the low point of the experience being when she threw my credit card at me across the counter. This woman should not be working in customer service, she has no idea how to handle rental contracts and the customers who sign them. She's clearly corrupt. Avoid this location/woman if you want to save yourself from being scammed at the end of your rental period. I rent cars fairly often and this was hands down the worst experience I've EVER had. And they try to call a Nissan Sentra a full-size car. Give me a break. There's so many better places to get a car than this one. Be warned! HORRIBLE customer service! I made a reservation on November 5 for my move tomorrow, November 14th. I've received 2 emails stating my reservation was good to go since November 5th. Then I received a phone call at noon November 13th, the day before my move, telling me they don't have a truck for my one way trip. That they just realized it and will need to change my reservation to round trip, charge me more, and now I'm responsible for double the gas. Furious, as you could imagine, the guy Kal said that it was not his place of business fault for this mix up. That the deal I received was the best they can do. Um, excuse me?!? It is all your fault! The least you can do is give me the truck for the same rate and not charge me for the extra gas I now have to pay for for your lack of doing your job! I then called Budget customer service and they were even worse but I won't get into that. My suggestion? Stay away! Horrible customer service and they could careless about their customers. Do not rent from this location. Horrible service. I went to rent a compact there, a Mazda. The low tire pressure light was on, the guy brings out a pressure gauge says pressure is fine, the same on all tires. Went to gas station, yes, it was same on all tires, except it was extremely low on all four tires. Then went to return the car earlier than the week I had rented for, and the rep would not adjust saying, sorry to bad you signed for week, you pay for week. I showed up, noticed that this place felt more like an industrial truck rental location based on the dingy interior and atmosphere. When I got to the counter after waiting a few minutes for them to finish some issue, I was told that they didn't have our car and only had a small SUV available - which I didn't want and didn't need - what's the point of a reservation? And the best part, I called earlier to confirm our vehicle would be ready because I wanted to pick it up 15 minutes early and was told it was ready to go......don't rent here unless you want to waste your time. read more

I had the most horrible experience when i returned my rental here. They did not like the fact i had some sand in the car so they charged me a $25.00 fee. I was told they do not have the equipment nor the manpower to clean the car when it comes in. I was told i could use there vacuum for $5.00 and clean it myself. They also said there was a bunch of dog hair in my car. I never even had a dog in the car. I guess my rate was too cheap that they had to add something on to make it worth it to them. This Avis is amazing. Sunday I came to pick up my rental car at 1pm. Little did I know the place closed at 1pm. Niery was nice enough to stay and look up my online reservation and do the paper work so I could get my car and go on my trip. Today I came in and returned my rental car and it was quick easy with no hassel. This is definitely one of the best rental experiences I've had. Felix has always been the one to help us with the rental and has always been accommodating to our needs, In two occasions they upgraded our rentals with no additional charges, we received clean,maintained vehicles. When I arrived to pick up the rental car that I had already ordered the night before the OPEN sign was on the door but the door was locked and I waited along with another couple for over 10 minutes until a guy named Felix came around the corner from the back. He was NOT friendly and I suggested that he should put a sign on the door stating he would "be back soon"....he was not happy with my remarks and we did not get along from then on! He refused to rent me a car and my ride had already left me there, so I was without a car! I was stranded! To say I have good feelings about this place is a HUGE NO! Instead of helping us resolve this issue, she gives me the customer service phone number. I call it, they tell me that this location should have cars and my reservation should be honored. AVOID this location. Please RUN........ Usually I always support small business, but this place is an exception. Being a family business, they should have more courtesy or friendlier service. Don't be so stuck up. I reserved a moving truck for a day rental and the lady ( owner's daughter ) was very rude and schemed me to buy the insurance that cost more than rental truck. I have no choice coz I really need the truck and don't have time to shop around. It's illegal to force customer to buy their insurance since they are not license to sell any insurance. I always rent with UHAUL and never at any point force to buy insurance. The lady told me to make sure be on time when returning the truck at 8am sharp the next day or otherwise I will be charge late fee. I did come at 7:45 am and lots of people waiting for her to open the store. She came around 8:30am and without smile or apologizing for being late. Very bad customer service and manner. Price is lots higher than UHAUL and truck was old and filthy. Never ever rent from them again. read more

I don't hold car rental places to a very high standard but this one dropped below anything I have ever seen. I rented a car that had ants crawling all over on the INSIDE. I took the car back to location and told the lady I got bit all over and she replied, "you still have to wait in line." I waited, patiently. When she found the time, she said I should have driven to gas station so she has to charge me. I mean...sure....why not feed the ants for another 10 minutes. Frauds. Tried to make me responsible for damage to the car that I know I did not do. I rented from this location and will never do so again. I was scheduled to return my car in the morning: when the store opens at 7. The guy running the place did not show up until 7:20am. He told me, "Oh you could have just dropped off the keys in the drop box." This suggestion seemed fishy to me. Anyway I wanted documentation I dropped of the car. He printed out the receipt and told me I was good to go. I was surprised he did not walk around the car with me. I left. An hour and half later he called me and told me there was damage to the car, and he wanted an explanation! He even lied on the phone saying: "I called you immediately after you left." This was not true. My cell phone record clearly showed he called a hour and a half later. Thankfully I rented the car with a reputable credit card who is taking care of this for me. read more
