Avra has 4 other locations, one being in Beverly Hills and one in Miami; we came to check out this Mediterranean restaurant for lunch, in which they offer a 3-course prix-fixe menu. For the 1st course, I went for the Fish Souvlaki, which were two grilled skewered Chilean sea bass; the bass was flaky. For the main, I went for the Lobster Pasta, which was prepared with light tomatoes, garlic sauce, and linguine; didn't expect to see the actual crustacean there, but the lobster itself was actually super tough and seemed to have been overcooked. For dessert, I went for the Orange Cake; this was a good way to finish what was an uneventful meal. We did order some extra a la carte items, such as a few orders of the Chicken Sausages, French Toast (cinnamon crunch, berries, and cream cheese frosting), the Cheese Burger (grilled sirloin beef, aged cheddar cheese, and oregano fries), and the Fluffy Pancakes (with blueberries and sweet whipped butter). The interior of the restaurant is pretty, with the foliage, the white/off-white booths and tablecloths, as well as the enclosed case of their fresh seafood on display. This is my second time visiting Avra restaurant, but the first time trying this location on Madison and it's still one of my favorite restaurants! Also first time coming for brunch/lunch. I want to say I'm so glad I did. We started off with great refreshing cocktails. I had ordered Persephone's punch and it was perfect for an early day drink. Refreshing, fruity and light. Hummus and chips were complimentary for the table and of course we ordered Avra chips too !! This is a must! We wanted something brunch and sweet so we also ordered the fluffy pancakes and wow these were incredible! I know they are just pancakes but these were so soft fluffy and delicious. As per entree we did the 38pp lunch menu that brings appetizer, main dish and dessert. I really think this was great deal as you're in the city in a fancy restaurant. Be mindful some entree had increase in price depending on selection. We ordered the Branzino which was so fresh and the lamb chops in which was so juicy and flavorful. This is my go-to brunch spot on the upper east side. Perfect for either indoor or outdoor dining (I prefer the indoor, the decor is beautiful). I have always wanted to try AVRA. A beautiful and decadent ambiance with a modern interior with live trees and high ceilings. A very large restaurant with two stories and wine cellar. Menu is not too extensive and they do offer a 3 course lunch menu for $37 which is an excellent deal. I tried the menu, I started off with the calamari, which was crispy and delicious, lightly battered. The entree that I ordered was the branzino with veggies. It was very large and I was shocked at how large the fish was. Parts near the head had a lot of bones so we had to be careful. Dessert we had the fruit plate. Great tomato, and all other ingredients were crunchy except, of course, Feta cheese. The pepper, onions, tomato, and cucumber were crunchy, so we know they're young and fresh! For the entree, I had branzino! Why not! It's a Greek restaurant. They prepare fish the best! Btw, I chose the fish with head and tail on. Fresh and without a fishy smell, that's the fish I like! Hubby had Prime NY Steak. It was tempting to try it, but my fish was more nourishing than the steak lol. We also ordered grilled vegetables with the entrees. After spoiling ourselves with the meals, we had the nerve to order Baklava. That's not all. It came with a scoop of ice cream too! Holy hell, this place was incredible. I was referred there by a client so myself and two of my coworkers went. We had oysters for an appetizer, which, how can you screw up oysters? I had the swordfish, one of my coworkers had Chilean sea bass, the other one had the ahi tuna. Everything was done to perfection with great flavors. There was also a nice, warm ambience. We were served complimentary crispy, thin, warm pita bread with paprika spiced hummus in olive oil, radishes and olives. The pita bread was so good... It had a slight char, was sprinkled with spices and topped with butter. For my first course, I chose the meatballs made with fresh herbs in a tomato and feta sauce. The meatballs were tender, juicy and the sauce was bold in flavor, with tasty melty feta cheese mixing in. I ordered the Fish of the Day for my main course, which with branzino, served with a medley of vegetables, including potatoes, carrots, and peas. The fish was delicious, well seasoned, as well as succulent. There were a few little bones, but I was able to handle it. I really enjoyed the vegetables, which were cooked in a really yummy lemony savory sauce. For dessert, I went with the Chocolate Yogurt Cheesecake, which was an adorable little piece of cake enrobed in deep, dark chocolate with a chocolate square and raspberry on top. On the plate, there was raspberry-rose water sauce, which was quite sweet. The cake was wonderful with rich chocolate taste, velvet creaminess, and simply melted in my mouth. Service was solid throughout. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I would consider returning for dinner, but it's a bit on the expensive side. Visiting this restaurant and noticing the icebox in the center of the room I noticed fresh tiger prawns and Langoustine - there are being sold per pound and I jumped right on that! Cost: came out here to be treated by someone that I know as a group, I never saw the bill however I am pretty sure it was a pretty penny. Has a great lunch at Avra Madison on a late Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was busy the customer flow was well managed. For the starter, we all had the Salmon Tartar which we all enjoyed and for the main course we had the Lavraki (Branzino) and Lamb Chops which were both great. It's quickly becoming one of my favorite spots to have a drink n meet new people. Enjoyed a very good dinner at this Avra location. When we arrived the restaurant was busy but that sat us right away for our 7:15pm reservation. The restaurant is large and has a nice indoor/outdoor flow to it, additionally it is well Lit and easy to have a conversation at your table. We stared with the Avra chips and calamari, both were really tasty. We ordered a bottle of the one from the expansive menu one list. For our entrees we had the sea bass and shrimp and eggplant. Additionally we ordered hummus on the side. Overall the experience was on point. Our waiter was the right amount of attentive and also let us have our business conversation. The food did not disappoint and the bus boys were all over everything else that needed attention. This NYC restaurant while not inexpensive is worth checking out. read more

This spot has always boasted big power players.- governors, media types etc and the room is lovely. I have my appointments up here, so I pass by here in the early mornings when they're just setting up the beautiful outdoor seating. I keep telling myself if I have the time, I want to stop by here to eat. I finally got the time to come here for a weekend brunch and I want to say the staffs were all wearing masks, but I felt like they weren't enforcing the mask wearing when indoors. People were just casually walking around without a mask going to and fro from the bathrooms. I've been to other restaurants where they have kindly asked the patrons to keep their masks on when not eating and to even put your masks on when their staffs come to your table. I think they should at least keep everyone in a safe distance and enforce the safety of everyone by asking people not to walk around without a mask. They have offered a set course menu, so we went with that and I opted for a freshly squeezed orange juice. We got the following for our meal: Grilled Calamari - I was craving fried ones, but I just wanted some calamari, since this item is not something I would order for delivery. They're version needed more acidity. I found it not cooked well and flavour not great. Salmon Tartare - I love this dish. It was accompany with fresh chips and this was something I wish I had more of and preferred this over the calamari. We waited forever for our mains to arrive. Lamb Chops - The temperature was requested to be medium rare, but what arrived was well done. Usually a slight difference we're not going to bother with sending it back, but this was a huge difference between the temperatures. The well done meat arrived dried and unappetizing and so we sent it back. But when the corrected version arrive, we discovered they only replaced one of the two lamb chops. We only cut into one of the chops, but you would think we didn't have to cut into both chops to let the staff know that both of them would most likely be the same temperature because they were cooked together. Anyways, we just accepted the one well done chops and one corrected medium rare chops. It's just odd that this place wouldn't replace both chops. Lobster Pasta - I want to say this was the better main and I love the presentation and the taste. It was so good and everything complement well with each other and I love how it was shelled and you didn't have to bother to get the meat out. As for their choices of dessert, we both don't care for cheesecake and I also don't like baklava because I find it too sweet, so we both got the fresh fruit. Very underwhelming presentation and selection of fruit, but whatever it is what it is. I want to say the service was great and the manager here was helpful, but the chops and the covid precaution made me give this place 3 stars! I would come back, but just avoid ordering anything that asks for temperature. read more

I don't think I would have minded paying the higher prices if the service was a little softer and friendlier. We ordered the Greek salad which was good but it doesn't have any greens -all vegetables. The grilled shrimp appetizer was good and salmon and veggies were good. When I joked with the waiter that we were too old to sit inside because it was so loud he said with a straight face you are only as old as you want to be. I asked for more water and he filled my wife's glass only. We asked were he was from and he told us a place in Greece and my wife said she has never been and he looked at me and said you here that. He was demanding I take her there right away again with a straight face. When salmon was bought over we had to ask for lemon from another waiter and he was very pleasant. Funny thing is I gave our waiter a nice tip. Maybe that was his plan to make me feel as I didn't belong there. read more

Avra in UES was where my friends took me for birthday brunch on Oct. 30th Saturday and we loved every minute! The restaurant is a few mins. walk from 5th Avenue, Central Park and The Plaza. This beautiful restaurant has been on my bookmarked list for awhile now and absolutely enjoyed everything they had to offer. First off, they gave us their best table by the window. The hostess was wonderful. And then Tolga was our main server and really attended to us well, greeting me Happy Birthday and telling me that they'll absolutely take good care of us. Really started off our experience the best way. Since we we're a big group, Tolga also had some help with 2 other servers and they were all pretty good! We started off with prosecco and cocktails and decided that the lunch prix fixe at $34.50 which came with starters, main course and a dessert was the best deal. I had the grilled octopus for starter (supplement of $14) and it was sooooo good! I'll happily come back for this. Other friends had the calamari and meatball and they were also pretty good! For main course, most of us had the fish and I didn't let the opportunity pass by to have grilled lavraki/branzino. This was fresh, perfectly grilled and simply delicious, topped by some lemon juice. My husband had the lobster pasta (supplement of $17) and it was heavenly as well. For dessert, Tolga and the team offered for us to do like a platter of combined dessert like a sampler of their offerings and they were all delectable, albeit felt expectedly fewer in portions compared to the first 2 courses. The baklava was the standout in that platter so much so that we decided to order another. Later on, we found out that they gave it to us complimentary for my birthday. Thank you, Avra Team! That was wonderful and we felt special, made us realize we want to come back again soon. :) We ended up indulging in a couple more cocktails (they're a little pricier than usual to be honest) and it was a hefty sum overall, but we really loved the ambiance and service. We came to the restaurant on a Sunday for a late dinner around 10 PM. While the food was great, our experience was ruined by our server, George, who rushed us through the entire meal. Our main courses arrived too quickly, and his attitude was rude and unfriendly. When we asked for a coffee at the end, he told us it wasn't possible because the coffee machine had already been turned off. If the restaurant isn't prepared to serve guests properly late at night, they shouldn't seat people. We felt stressed and unwelcome, which took away from what should have been an enjoyable meal.
