My husband and I really enjoyed the pho here. I tried the pho with beef and brisket and will just stick with beef next time because the brisket was pretty fatty to me. Not at all vegetarian friendly. Tofu pho option is cooked with chicken broth. My review does not reflect the food since my husband and I are vegetarian and did not eat there but the overall service. We called numerous times to check if there were vegetarian options yet there was no answer. We took the leap and decided to go to the restaurant anyway. While we were there we attempted to ask if there were any options for us before we were seated. We were ignored. I got up to ask again to see what vegetarian dishes we would be able to get. I was told to sit back down and wait while he served other customers, who walked in after us. There was a total of 8 people there including my husband and I. When I came in, I waited in line, only to be told I have to wait to place a to-go order after they take all the other bill paying customers first. Makes zero sense why you would do this, but sure. I tell him my order, and afterwards I tried to ask for uncooked noodles but the lady stuck her hand in my face and said wait. She takes an order and comes back, then says how can I help you with an irritated look. I tell her I just placed a to-go order but... and then she cuts me off and says with an attitude -- if you have a to go order, you sit and wait. Now I'm a bit peeved at this point, and tell her that I understand but I want my noodles uncooked for my #10's. Then she looks at me confused and says what am I talking about? I repeat myself, she throws her hands in the air all annoyed and walks away. A different man comes to me and asks me to repeat my order, I said 2 #10, 1 egg roll, 2 spring rolls. He tells me there was a mistake, it's written as 2 #5's, and they'll fix it. This is an old Vietnamese couple ran restaurant that my boyfriend and I found on yelp. I ordered bun thit nuong chai gio (vermicelli noodle with charbroiled beef and egg roll) and my boyfriend ordered pho (beef noodle soup) and a side of egg rolls. We also ordered excess oil and vinegared onions for his pho. The old man was very nice and said in Vietnamese that they don't have it because white people doesn't like ordering them which my boyfriend and I were okay about. The old man went to the back and said that we were Vietnamese and told the lady in the back what we ordered. My boyfriend and I look very Americanized but we speak and understand Vietnamese clearly. We heard her talk about how unhealthy ordering the extras were and how her food doesn't need extras to make it good. She repeatedly said that it was nasty and disgusting of us for ordering the extras. She also complained about having to make the egg rolls and then complained about how making my food was too complicated. Then she asked her husband if I were a boy or a girl and he said I was a girl. I didn't hear what she said after that but she sound annoyed or frustrated. She also complained about other things about us and the food that we ordered. Keep in mind that all of her talking was in the kitchen while we were sitting in the restaurant. My boyfriend said that the pho dac biet broth was more chicken based than beef based which is pretty bland. I thought my food was good. In the end, if you're Vietnamese, save yourself some trouble. Let me give you a little history of his place. This has been in this building for over 40 years. There used to be a Vietnamese grocery store in the middle of this building. Life used to happen here when I was 8 years old.It used to be populated with Vietnamese. Majority of them moved away but my mom is still around. She doesn't live too far away. We come in once in awhile just because we don't feel like driving to Garland for pho. I just always get pho and it's pretty good. Their pho is definitely authentic! SCORE!! served on a warm fresh baguette roll with fresh fixins it was truly yummy. Next we did the Pho..This is one dish I just hadnt quite got the taste for but this place is spectacular. We ordered the first one on the menu (with both tender rare and well done beef ) I am not kidding when I tell you that this broth is delicious. All we added was a little of the rooster hot sauce and it was Puuuuurfect. The more we ate the better it got and we were both full by the end.We did not stop until every last bit of everything we ordered was gone and the dishes basically licked clean. Now for the bonus bit....the price. We ate and drak and our bill was $13.00! what? progressively over the years I have found myself spending more and more on food, which I dont mind but this place ROCKS we both left very full and happy and spent barely enything. The bf and I went to try it based on other Yelp reviews and hoped for the best. It's not much to look at inside. The decor is simple, and there is a old-school TV in one corner, which was playing some NBA conference finals when we were there. But all that aside, the food is quite nice. The times I've had Bánh Mì (sandwich) here, the bread has been tough and dry, which has been a little bit of a turnoff, but the fillings are always so tasty, I just power through it. The location is actually not as terrible as you might be led to believe by other reviews; It's not an Uptown Dallas location, but it's also not in the "ghetto". It's near a mildly industrial area and across the street from a gas station that's surely seen better days, however you won't need to worry about your car being broken into in broad daylight (can't make any promises during the evening hours). Yep.. This place definitely deserved 5 stars. I took my wife who is scared of trying new places and as we pulled up to Ba Le, she looked at me and asked if I was joking.. It looks like a dive place in a strip mall on the "bad" side of town. There were too many good reviews to pass up the opportunity to try. I have been testing out places all over Dallas and this by far had the best vietnamese home cooking I've ever had. Once you walk in the decor is surprising as the outside area is a little sketchy. We were instantly greeted and sat. Food was delicious. My wife said multiple times that it was the best vietnamese she has ever had and told me that I was right for making us try it even thought it looked "divey" from the outside. (Hear that ladies... a guy was right for once.. woohoo.. hehehe) We both recommend you try this place. While we were there a number of vietnamese (locals) and even some super dressed up people came in which leads me to believe that this is a best kept secret type of place. Our meal was great and it was super cheap. This is a little mom and pop type shop so don't go in thinking that this place will be spectacular but I was very impressed by the food and will absolutely go back again. ps.. thanks to the other reviewers for leaving great reviews. Also shared shrimp spring rolls with the friend and thought they were alright...not my cup of tea but glad I tried something new. My wife and I come every chance we get. Its the only restaurant of its kind in the area. Their Pho is always phenomenal. Theyll provide extra basil, bean sprouts or jalapeño if you like. The Sriracha sauce is always plentiful!!I actually prefer their Bun or a great sandwich. The Vietnamese iced coffee is the best I've ever had, by far. Hands down, the best bowl of Bun Bo Hue in Dallas. As a traditional Viet, this captures the aromatics and broth of Hue to a fault. Authentic as can be and completely worth every penny. The broth makes or breaks a good bowl of Bun Bo Hue and this was done with patience for such a delicious turnout. As for the service, it was great! I came to the restaurant not knowing they closed an hour before we got there and the owner opened the door for us anyways! She even grew some of her own fruits and gave me a free bag. I love Vietnamese food and I have eaten it in a LOT of cities. I came here with high expectations from the Yelp reviews and those expectations were completely dashed. Soft-sided shrimp rolls - Of course, I do not know how they make it, but the result I was served had this cold, stale vibe going on, like the difference between fresh sushi and sushi that you buy off a cooler shelf in a grocery store. Every other Vietnamese restaurant I have visited has done a much better job. Vermicelli with grilled pork - This is the dish I most commonly eat at Vietnamese restaurants. This is the worst version I have had. My issues with this dish were as follows: - The vermicelli was mushy and wet, like it was cooked too long and pulled right out of the pot, not drained well, and dropped in the bowl. Or, possibly, par-cooked, blanched to reheat it, then dropped in the bowl without adequate draining. - There was not much of the pickled veggies; they were vastly outnumbered by plain cucumber - There was a lot of lettuce and bean sprouts taking up space in the bowl I hate giving bad reviews, but it is what it is. Of the Vietnamese restaurants I have tried in Dallas, I would go to Dalat (for Pho) or Zander's House (for just about everything) before I came back here. read more

I sought out Ba Le on the recommendation of a friend who claimed to have had a "life changing" sandwich there. It is a little off the beaten track for me, but not so far off that the hassle would be greater than the possibility of a great meal. Ba Le is good, but not great and far from life changing. If you happen to be in Garland, and you'd like some good Vietnamese food very cheaply, Be Le is your spot. I had chicken Pho which was very good. It had a nice broth. Also, I tried the chicken Bahn Mi. The chicken may not have been the right sandwich to order, but mine was very tasty. Total bill $10. Very nice food for very little money. There are some things to recommend it. The local Vietnamese folks, the family-crowd and young hipsters, all eat here. Is there a better indicator of authenticity? Was also given a recommendation for #35, a vermicelli dish, but I had to order Bun Bo Hue since few places serve it around town... and that was my reason for driving to Garland to try their food out. My friend Action Jackson turned me on to this place. It's undergone a bit of a makeover since I first started going there 3 years ago, which really classed the joint up a bit. The food is amazingly fresh and delicious. I can't say whether or not its authentic, but every time I go there, most of the crowd is Vietnamese. Best Vietnamese in Dallas, no contest (I live in Lakewood, and have eaten at them all throughout the metro). Pho is sublime (get the #3 "everything" combo if you dare), and the BBQ Banh Mi is the best sub sammie in Dallas (I recommend a squirt of the plum sauce in the red squeezie bottle to dress it). Prices are crazy low ($6 for a five star pho, and $3.25 for a big BBQ sub/banh mi). Service is "family friendly", ambiance is "vietnamese basic-spartan clean". My partner and I both ordered "large" noodle soups and were disappointed with the portion size. I've eaten at many pho soups around DFW and this was by far the skimpiest I've ever had. It was about a third of a large, but not a third of the price! I had a couple shrimp thrown in and a few pieces of bbq pork. They didn't even try to make up for the portion size by adding more broth or cilantro. Fried spring rolls weren't bad, they were hot and crispy. Service was quick.
