In town recently to see family, staying nearby, we opted for this for a fast-ish dinner - our food was yummy and service was decent....once they figured out who was assigned to our table. My son got spaghetti and meatballs (they were HUGE and he was happy), I got crab risotto which was super rich and tasty, and my husband got a snapper special, which he was thrilled with. From the moment we walked in until the moment we walked out, the service was fantastic. I believe our waiter was Jeff? (Or maybe it was Justin) Either way, we were impressed with his detailed specials of the night (which was quite extensive). We were equally impressed with his attentiveness and overall demeanor, as we felt he truly enjoyed his job of taking great care of his customers. The food....oh the FOOD! With prices that were very reasonable, the food was absolutely delicious! The portions were huge, our dinner warm, and each course came to our table quickly. Started off with the Caesar salad and cheese/olive plate. The cheese/olive plate was not as expected: a little disappointed in that I thought we'd get some other types of sliced cheeses, rather than shaved Parmesan and crumbled Gorgonzola pieces, along with olives that didn't seem to have any marinade on them. But for $5, I didn't mind not finishing it all. The main course itself was fantastic. I had the spaghetti and meatballs (2 meatballs, each about the size of my fist!) and my husband had the Babbo pizza. Both amazing flavors and taste! Glad we have enough left over to have for lunch tomorrow. Place was packed by the time we were seated (6:00pm, for which we had no wait time). While the service was quick, we didn't feel rushed by the staff to finish our food, even though people were waiting outside in the cold to get in. First time to this hidden hotspot. Amazing portions with reasonable prices. The Cesar Salad was one of the most ordered items during our visit. The bread served upon our seating was fresh and soft. Their menu is pretty limited, but everything looked impressive. We arrived on Friday night during the rush and was seated without a problem. Wow. We got a lot more than we expected from our first trip to Babbo's! My husband and I ventured out on a quick Thursday date night, and since my husband was congested and unable to taste, we didn't want to go anywhere too expensive or on our list of must-try restaurants. We decided to head to the Valley, since we live nearby and I wasn't feeling any cuisine in particular. Babbo's caught my eye as we scoped out the selection, because a friend of mine had mentioned going a few times. If they've gone back, it can't be terrible, right? Right! The feel is trendy Italian - glass bottles of water at the table and open ceiling with black painted ducts paired with embroidered drapery, wood tables, and candlelight. When you first walk in, there's a spread of wine bottles and glasses to greet you. I found later, that's the wait station. Pretty cool vibe. We quickly were given bread and dipping oil that were fresh and delicious. I was surprised to get "plain" oil with no parmesan or red pepper to dress it up like you'd find elsewhere, but we didn't miss it. And the bread was soft and fresh - yum! We politely declined another serving lest I go on too much of a carbo-load. Our server was terse but helpful. She's was happy to offer me a taste of two different wines when I was deciding on my glass, which was greatly appreciated. I suggest the Pinot Grigio over the house white. Same price, FYI. For dinner, my husband ordered the lasagna, because we saw the HUGE slabs on our way in and were curious, and a del Pietro salad. I ordered two specials - an apple salad and the veal piccata. The del Pietro was a standard Italian style house salad. I didn't think it was overdressed at all, as a previous review stated. Perhaps they've taken comments to heart. I actually noted how well dressed I thought it was. I was a nice departure from the overly saturated salads I've come accustomed to in other Italian eateries. My husband's lasagna was more impressive in size than taste. I do have to admit my mom's lasagna is hard to compete with though. It was still good. I wouldn't tell someone to avoid it. My meal certainly stole the crown for best picked though! The apple salad was AWESOME! I was tempted to ordered another with dressing on the side to go for lunch today. Arugula with Gorgonzola, dried cherries, red onion, almonds, and a balsamic vinaigrette. Seriously - they need to put this on the menu. I'd come in all the time just for the salad. I'm salivating just thinking about it...even after just having ate lunch. The veal piccata was also excellent. The garlic sauce was very well balanced, mixing harmoniously with lemon and capers. I'd definitely order it again. Portions are healthy in size (even the salads), and the price is fantastic, especially with consideration for the aforementioned portions. My husband and I walked away with two salads, two entrees, a glass of wine, iced tea, and the complimentary bread service for $60 with tax and 20% tip - not bad at all! We were very pleased with our experience (well...I'm sure my husband would say so with a working nose...) and if you had covered the windows and plopped me down there, I never would have thought I was out at some spot in the Valley. It is absolutely incomprehensible to me that I haven't reviewed this place before. I've been here at least a half-dozen times by now but somehow it must have fallen through the cracks. Given the other choices in the valley, this one is somewhere to go if you can't get in somewhere better. I find their "no reservations - no call-ahead" policy to be significantly outdated in a world where you can make reservations at some restaurants over the internet or through Yelp. I have similar gripes about the fact that they are generally understaffed and frequently have dirty tables when there is a wait at the door. My last gripe is that tiramisu is their lone offering for dessert. The food usually doesn't disappoint...if you can get what you want. I've attempted to order their special and they were out - more than once. read more

My wife and I, and two guests were there for lunch today. Russell took excellent care of us, and the complimentary bread, with cheese and olive oil was excellent. The toasted ravioli was excellent, with the best marinara I have ever had with it. I had the lasagna, which was as big as a football. Well..not quite, but it was huge. My wife got the tutte mare, and there was enough for her lunch, and enough for us to share as a side dish for our evening meal. Prices are reasonable, expecially given the portion sizes. STRONG recommend from all four of us. Our meal was as good as any Italian restaurant on the hill. VERY good service from Russell, who told us that he splits his time between this restaurant and another. You should keep him in Chesterfield! He's perfect for the location. read more

Babbos used to be our favorite, go to restaurant. But over the past year, we've noticed a complete dip from the kitchen, with consistency. What's interesting is their sister restaurant Sugos has always been great. Same menu- but the foods spot on. Babbos must have had a change internally. For example, the last two visits have been awful. The waitress brought us burnt food and pretended to not notice blackened toasted ravioli. She did give it to us free after we brought it to her attention. But waitstaff/management should be checking these things. Second, we were served no sauce on our spaghetti and meatballs. That's pretty incredible, that we need to request sauce. Last everyone congregates in the kitchen to talk and ignores tables. The recommendation is to go to Sugos in Frontenac. Not Babbos. Great spot for a quick casual dinner on a Friday. Caesar salad was okay. I'd prefer a more authentic fishy dressing. The toasted ravioli were some of the best I've ever had. The meat pizza was good, but wish it were a bit more crispy as opposed to floppy crust. The Fungi pasta was probably the best with the rich flavor and the bread was super fresh and delicious. The Chicken Alfredo was a bit bland and super watery (three of 4 pasta dishes were pretty watery/soupy). I'm used to having more thick and cheesy Alfredo. Incredible Italian food that is absolutely way better than anything you can find on The Hill in St Louis. We stoped in on a beautiful Friday evening and we're really surprised to walk right in and get a table. From the time we entered we knew this was going to be good. The smell of garlic invites you in, quick service with water and bread and a simple menu with good selections and specials. The ladies enjoyed a tomato salad over mixed greens with balsamic and goat cheese which they said was delightful. I had a Caesar with generous Parmesan and a fe croutons. For the main courses we ordered Alfredo with chicken, spaghetti with meatballs and Salmon over lemon risotto. We each really enjoyed our dishes, portions are generous, you'll likely end up taking some home. I do not know why the people of chesterfield head into the microwave chain restaurants on the airport road, come on man, get with it and get here as fast as you can. It is a bit pricey, but no more than you would spend at other places nearby and the food is so so much better. Will definitely be back when in the valley. read more

We were looking for something a bit different and we pleasantly surprised. Neither the store front not the interior size adequately represent the gustatory excellence within. The interior of the restaurant is smallish but neatly appointed. It is not dissimilar to some Italian restaurants at which we have eaten in Tuscany. Tables are slightly tight for American standards, but downright loose compared to Italian standards. As with many Italian restaurants it is noisy, but not so noisy as Biaggis. And definitely not Italian wedding noisy, as we can attest from our 2014 trip. The waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and meanings of titles. She was also friendly and checked on us frequently. The parmesan for the olive oil dip was freshly grated and very tender and tasty. I had the chicken spedini. It was excellent. The chicken was tender and well seasoned. The tomato cream sauce was delicious. My wife had the spaghetti pomodoro. The pomodoro wasn't a sauce so much as it was chopped tomatoes over the spaghetti, shaved parmesan and basil. It was also very good. To top it all off, for as large as the servings were, the prices were very reasonable. Our meals totaled under $30, although we did drink water. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good Italian food. read more

What happened to this restaurant? This used to be a thriving cool vibe great service really great food place. It is now basically empty all the time. We went there last night and for one, the bread alone is horrible. They used to have fresh Italian bread that was soft and yummy and served with Parmesan on the table with really great olive oil. But the bread now is small and very dry - Not good at all. They need to get back their old bread. Secondly, they had no sodas available and the waitress brought out a can of soda to refill my glass. So tacky. The food was OK but the presentation is just not the same. I'm not sure if they changed management but I know they have changed ownership and it shows. This restaurant is not going to survive much longer if they don't make some changes. Bring back the Soft Italian bread & bring in a new manager that will get this place in shape. read more
