Came here for a yelp event, where we got 2 free pounds of shellfish and 2 drinks. I also added on the garlic noodles, because that is a must when you have Cajun boil. I chose the mussels and shrimp for the shellfish. The sauce was great and tasty, not too overwhelming. The seafood was also very fresh. Food: -Headless shrimp (5/5) and the regular shrimp (5/5) with the mild backyard sauce - This shrimp boil had an Asian flair and I could definitely taste the ginger and garlic flavors come through in the sauce! I love how they have the headless option. -Lobster fries (5/5) - although pricey ($19), these fries come loaded with cheese, a savory sauce, and lobster pieces. Definitely order this to share, cause it's a lot and feels heavy - with this I wasn't able to finish my pound of shrimp! 100% worth a try!! -Beignets (5/5) - so delicious, doughy, and fluffy, served with a condensed milk drizzle that was FIRE. Ever since we attended the awesome Yelp Elite Event at Backyard Bayou, my husband and I have been coming here on the regular, so I decided to update my review. We checked in via Yelp and the wait time was pretty accurate. The restaurant is on the smaller side and the tables are stacked pretty close together, leaving very little room between you and other guests. This is my least favorite thing about Backyard Bayou. We ordered the Selfie Bucket with Shrimp, Mussels & Clams. It also comes with corn, potatoes and sausage. Unfortunately, our sausage this time was left out of our bag and I had to ask our server, Ivan, to rectify this. The potatoes were also inedible and about a half dozen of our mussels did not open which means they were not good. The best part of our meal was definitely the Sazerac (an Old Fashioned made with Sazerac Rum) and the beignets. read more

Really great service but the sauce they use is a bit on the sweeter side and started to taste more and more like tomato sauce towards the end. I ended up getting flavor fatigue and the spice level wasn't super spicy either. The garlic noodles taste more like parmesan noodles with not much garlic. Their market prices are a bit higher and the items aren't cheap either, but they do have an extensive menu so there's something for everyone. I had a check in Yelp voucher and the waitress was happy to apply it, however when we got the bill it didn't reflect the same offer. We're looking for seafood and decided to come and dine at Backyard Bayou. The place is near Starbucks at Union Landing. We arrived a little after 1 pm and the place had only a few customers. The seafood has a set price per pound for customers to pick. They also have on their menu a package of shrimp, lobster, corn, and sausage. You can also choose the type of sauce and spiciness you want for your seafood. They also have a bar for customers who want alcohol or other beverages. We ordered 2 lbs of shrimp and also corn. We also tried the garlic noodles. The shrimp came inside a large plastic bag and seasoned with sauce. The shrimp are huge and delicious. I like the ambiance of this place, as it's great for date night or families. A couple of tvs, one of which had cartoons on for the kids, which you don't see very often at a restaurant. They've got a full bar as well. They do the seafood boil the same as most other places around here (pick your seafood, pick your sauce, throw it all in a bag). My husband is from the south where it's cheaper and more flavorful than anywhere in CA, so we don't come back here for that. We come for the catfish and grilled gator. I like that the gator and frog legs are not items you see often in CA. They do a good job at them too. The fried catfish is a proper ratio of batter to fish with a nice crunch. The Cajun wings are hit or miss depending whether the batch has enough seasoning. The gumbo leaves much to be desired (especially if you've had homemade in the south), the roux here is lacking something and could use more protein. The turkey collard greens are just okay. Definitely recommend joining the Yelp waitlist from before, they get really crowded and the space is pretty small. The shrimps ($18/lb) were pretty large and the sauce was really flavorful. For the sauce I got backyard style and the spice level I got was hot. My main critique at any seafood boil spot is that it needs to come out hot enough (temperature wise) and the bag came out piping hot. The Cajun fries were a generous portion and really good. The service was good. The food was less than desirable. The lobster roll was over cooked, lacked any seasoning, bread not toasted. The shrimp rice bowl was very small for the price. The shrimp seemed to be frozen tiny shrimp something you would buy at Costco in the frozen section! The dishes all lacked any flavor and was not as expected. Definitely not very appetizing. For the ridiculous price you would be expecting fresh and delicious authentic Cajun cuisine. This was not the case. We came at a very busy time and it seemed to be everybody's birthday. Since it was only the 2 of us, we were seated right away. We ordered the selfie bucket and upgraded to the Alaskan king crab. They forgot the sausage in our combo and they did remove $5 off our order. Ambiance: The inside decor has a nice, rustic feeling with lighting on the darker side. A plus: the location has a fully stocked bar. A minus: the seating is very close and a bit crowded. Service: The service was very good overall. We had a large party of 11 people plus a toddler, showed up at 4:15 pm on a Sunday afternoon; were placed on a wait list we were initially advised of over the phone that we could not do, and then were advised to come back an hour later. When we returned, we were advised it would be at least another half hour if we wanted to sit together, so we broke our party up and sat at separate tables. Once seated, everything was relatively smooth and our server answered all questions and was overall attentive to our needs. Food: You expect to pay on the higher end for this type of dinning experience. We ordered the Bayou Bucket with King Crab legs, crawdad, and headless shrimp, pluss 2 lobster macs, a gumbo, a side of rice, corn, and steamed veggies, plus 2 fountain drinks. This came out to over $200, but again, expected. The temperature of our different items were fine, and presentation great, but the was frozen, not fresh, and it was noticeable. I would not recommend the lobster mac...it did not have any flavor. Overall, it was pleasant experience that we had learned about from an Instagram posting.
