I ordered Bafang via Grubhub and was pleasantly surprised by the value (of course this is relative to other Bay Area restaurants, it doesn't compare to Taiwan prices). Every dish was packed nicely and the order came in a very nice paper bag, although I had hoped for tamper resistant stickers/sealing, which was not present. I tried the sesame noodle, old fashioned noodle, signature dumplings, signature potstickers, and the spicy wonton. I enjoyed every dish, but I particularly enjoyed the noodle dishes more than the dumpling/potstickers (maybe just because the latter just aren't as good as takeout?), which I was surprised by. Also the potstickers made here just weren't as good as the potstickers I've had from Bafang in Taiwan. The dumplings were solid and heated better as leftovers. The spicy wontons were alright, but not particularly special - I prefer the wontons from Duan Chen Zhen instead. Both noodle dishes were tasty and I enjoyed the texture of the noodles, but the old fashioned won for me. All in all, I like Bafang dishes, but I likely wouldn't go out of my way to stop by (or order from here) unless I had a very specific craving, given it is a tad far and the menu isn't too large. Stopped by Bafang Dumpling and really enjoyed it! The restaurant is clean, bright, and welcoming, and the potstickers were absolutely delicious with a crisp on the outside and a good filling. For all my dietary restriction buddies, the ingredients for the signature potstickers contain pork, cabbage, and green onions/chives. I actually had to dissect one to figure it out since it wasn't obvious at first and the ingredients are not listed on the menu. The first Bafang in California opened near the run down Puente Hills Mall. I've been there a couple of times. I knew that they were like a fast food restaurant serving up some fast and cheap food. It surprised me that we decided to try them while on a recent business trip because I've never been impressed. I was impressed with this location. They are located in a nicer shopping center in Santa Clara with a Whole Foods and lots of nice restaurants. Surprisingly I visited twice on a recent business trip because I wasn't too hungry and didn't want to spend too much. Parking is almost impossible for this restaurant. Bafang was less then 5 minutes of driving from my hotel, but took over 20 minutes of looking for a parking spot. The dumplings and potstickers have a pork and cabbage filling. All the Taiwan natives in Southern California say it reminds them of Taiwan. I'm not a native. I think they are okay and won't go out of my way for it. Their combos are nicely priced for a cheapskate like me. With the hotel feeding my wife and I half a dinner, we didn't have to order much. I liked their noodles more than their dumplings. I don't like their cabbage filling. When you want cheap, you get cabbage. They are in a good location where you can't park in the evenings. The food is cheap and okay. This is another one of the chain that I had to round up the score as I couldn't give it a three half star. Been meaning to check this out for a couple months now. Decided to come by after catching a movie at the nearby theatre. Very spacious and clean place with a fast food/self service business model. You ordered at counter, pickup the food which comes in paper containers that you can dine there or take it to-go. Their signature noodle was really good in terms of the noodle texture and flavor. Noodle has the right level of chewiness and thickness which I like. It was very flavorful with mild spiciness and not too oily. I also had their veggie potstickers. It was not bad - a little on the oily side and I would love it if they had it more crispy on the outer wrap. As for dipping sauce, they have multiple sauces (garlic, sesame, vinegar, soy) on the counter for you to mix to your liking. The only thing I would not recommend ordering was their hot & sour soup which doesn't look nor taste like a hot & sour soup at all - in fact tasted weird in my opinion. I made a DoorDash order and I was excited to try them out. I've never been to Bafang, based on what I heard about the congested parking situation and the crowded patrons, so I'm really glad that I can give them a try without the burden. The experience with the food was just ok. I ordered a mini wonton soup and a pack of 6 signature dumplings. The wonton soup tasted ok, the soup got the umami flavors as you get from MSG, but I had no MSG reactions afterwards; unfortunately, all the wonton were broken. The wrappings were thin, but they all broke, leaving the meatball fillings floating around. The steamed dumplings also tasted ok. Although the wrapping looked thick, it didn't have that chewy gluten texture that I dislike. I found the fillings tasted fine, but there's this sense of air and space b/w the wrapper and the fillings. My friend echoed my feelings and said she always felt like not eating enough substances when eating their dumplings for hot pot. I also tried one potsticker, not bad, but potstickers are just not great for take-out, as they easily lose the crispiness, and the oil could overwhelm the dumplings. I'm not happy with their take-out packaging, as all the potstickers were left in various boxes without markings. We waited about 10-15 minutes for our food. Everything was delicious and tasty. The potstickers were crisp and the filling was well seasoned and flavorful. The dough wasn't anything to write home about either (not QQ or anything). Amazing place, we were impressed after a long time with many disappointment. Service is self serve but the food come out relatively fast. The inside is very clean and bright, smell good. Even with other crowed group I didn't feel suffocated. Food are amazing, my husband is very picky about food and he loved everything. He usually hate potsticker but he loved this one. It's been a little while since I've popped into a BD - but was a nice surprise here in San Jose area. This was much larger than the one in SoCal (Torrance) near my home - and it was filled nearly all tables at 2pm on a Thursday afternoon- always a good sign! I tried the rice bowl with braised pork belly and it was quite delicious- since I hadn't seen that on my local home menu recently. Food was ready in 2-3 minutes and service was quick and efficient. A great alternative to get something "fast" and yet feel bit healthier than most other places and options. The signature dumplings were better and had a nice chewy dough wrapper. Good with sauce. There was a sauce station for vinegar and soy sauce, etc by the drinks area. The mini wonton soup had tasty wontons, but the soup was kinda bad and very greasy with no flavor to it. The corn chowder is such a skip, very bad, thick starchy consistency and flavor overall. If you ever go to Taiwan, the McDonald's corn soup is leagues better in taste and consistency. The bafang pork chop was okay; tender. Not the crispy type of pork chop, more like a braised texture. I LOVE dim sum and have been yearning for a fast-casual place for dumplings in the South Bay since forever. I literally have a fast-casual option for all my favorite grubs besides dim sum and was really excited when I heard about Bafang Dumpling opening. When I visited, the place was packed with people of Taiwanese decent so I knew the food was going to be reasonably authentic. I got the signature noodle, potstickers, dumplings, and wonton soup. They also have a variety of sauces that are all self-serve, which I really appreciated as it's one of my pet-peeves when places charge for extra sauce. Everything was very delicious and tasted quite fresh, which was a little surprising given that this place is, in fact, a fast-casual eatery. To be clear, I wasn't necessarily expecting the meal to be subpar but I was amazed that the quality of the food was on the same level as the food I get from proper dim sum restaurants. Just to be very clear, Bafang is NOT Din Tae Fung. If you are looking for premium quality Taiwanese dim sum and noodles, you are not going to find it here and you need to drive a little further to Valley Fair. The combos are the way to go! You're basically getting a soda or a soup for $1 when you break it down. Speaking of soup: get the hot and sour soup! The four of us really enjoyed this. The corn soup was boring. Noodles: The old fashioned noodles were good. The mala beef noodles we got were super spicy even though we ordered mild. We actually got this one by mistake, but were too lazy to tell them the order was wrong. The beef was not tender either. Wouldn't order that one again. The fried chicken was tasty: crunchy and seasoned with five spice and served with a spicy dipping sauce. The signature dumplings were great: nice wrapper and the pork and cabbage filling was moist and flavorful. I wish the potstickers were as crispy as they looked, but unfortunately they weren't. I love the condiment self serve bar complete with sesame oil, garlic sauce, vinegar, soy sauce and chili oil. I'm not sure if they've just hired a new batch of employees, but the person today at the cash register was pretty dismal, and could not appropriately take an order... requiring us to return to the counter multiple times. Based on the questions he was asked by others returning to the counter, it also sounds like he had difficulty with other orders. There was no oversight over his performance either.. Walking into the place is impressive. The space is big and well lit but not overwhelming. It is also super clean including the restrooms. We ordered the signature noodles with veg dumplings and the beef noodle soup. The person who helped us was very helpful and giving his opinion on what to order. I really enjoyed the veg dumplings. The "meat" inside was more for texture, but still a great flavor and the wrapper was very well made. Don't forget the sauce for the dumplings! It really added so much flavor. One of my now favorite Taiwanese spots in the Bay!! Reason being is because they have some amazing noodle dishes and vegetarian dumplings are so so delicious! Once you circle the block a bit and find a spot to park you'll see that the space is actually huge and there's plenty of seating. I had to check out this spot after seeing so many videos online and luckily, my friends and I were in the area one day. All were delicious, but I would say the standout was their signature. I mean, it's called signature for a reason. I did think for a veggie potsticker, those were nice and crispy with a good amount of flavor. NOTE - the garlic green beans actually have meat in them. I don't think this was very obvious and we didn't discover it until after eating some of it. Overall, I enjoyed the food and spot for what it was: a fast, casual dumpling and noodle spot. While the interior ambience was actually very nice--spacious, clean, and comfortable--the kitchen area appeared somewhat crowded, which raised some concerns. I also noticed that they sell frozen dumplings and potstickers, which made me wonder whether the dishes we were served were freshly made or simply reheated. We ordered a combo that included hot and sour soup, but the soup arrived lukewarm rather than hot, which was another letdown. After taking it home and reheating it in the microwave, the soup actually tasted better, which says a lot about how it was initially served. Similar consistency to hot & sour soup. Light, yet creamy. Slightly sweet yet savory. Very comforting. 4.5/5* All their sauces tasted salty for us..even the chili. They just didn't go with any of our dishes. So we ate everything without them. You bus your own table / trays when you're done. Overall, okay. Good for a casual bite. New in the Bay Area, Bafang Dumpling is a casual spot from Taiwan, known for decently good and affordable dumplings and potstickers. Favorites include beef noodle soup, and crispy potstickers, with combos providing good portions and allows you to try a bunch of items. Food tasted average but I enjoyed the good value and quick service. It was so easy to place order and self collect. However, it is tough to find seats in large groups. I came during lunch time on a Sunday and it was pretty packed. There was one worker at the cash register and the line was very long and slow when there were other working standing around doing nothing. Our food took almost 20 minutes to come out and the people who ordered before and after us already got their food. I ordered the combo 4 to share with another person since weren't that hungry. [Food] Takeout - Combo #1 12 Signature Potstickers + Hot & Sour soup ($14.75): Potstickers were good and crispy. Hot & sour soup tasted a bit bland, sweeter, and more healthy compared to the usual taste in other restaurants. I would get this combo again but would try with the corn chowder since I've never tried that. - Pork Chop with Braised Pork Belly Rice ($12): Interesting as the pork chop has more of a sweet flavor imo. Still good but I was looking for a more savory pork chop. - 6 Signature Dumplings ($6.95): Decent flavor, not too lean or fatty. - Spicy Wontons ($6.95): Oooh definitely got a kick! I'd say this is a true medium spice so if you can only handle mild, maybe skip or grab a drink! Yummy imo though! Great flavor with the chili oil! My favorite out of the whole order. [Overall] - I first had this at one of their Hong Kong locations and fell in love so I was super excited they were opening up a location near me! First of all, I really like the location of this store and how neat, clean, and spacious it is inside. Second, the concept and menu combo reminds me of American fast food chain but serving dumpling & noodles, portion and price were decent as well. Service was quick and staffs seems friendly. I got combo 5: 12 pieces of signature dumpling & corn chowder, a side of spicy wontons, and wonton soup. The dumpling was really good, it was seasoning just right, the taste of fillings and the texture of wrappers was on point. Between the two soups, I'm honestly prefer the corn chowder better, it tasted a little bit sweet but really enjoyable. Meanwhile the wonton soup was pretty oily, it taste pretty balance and I understand the layer of oil on top were supposed to keep the soup hot for a longer time but it was too oily for my taste. The wonton itself was not good, I think the wrapper they used is the same one with their dumplings, it's too thick for wonton and it got mushy later on. The spicy sauce for the wonton were alright. Overall, it was an Okay experience for my first visit. I definitely will comeback when I'm around the area to try their signature pot sticker and noodles dishes, then update my review. read more

Bafang has locations throughout California, particularly in SoCal. This Santa Clara location is the first in the Bay Area. The plaza has plenty of parking, and inside there is a lot of seating, so it does not feel cramped even when busy, but note they do not have tables for huge groups over 4 people, was funny seeing the group of 6 people squeezing in the table next to me. The soup was good and flavorful without being overly salty, which I appreciated. The portions of meat and noodles felt on the smaller side, especially considering it served in a wide bowl filled with a lot of soup. It does somewhat look generous in portions at first, but it does not quite match the shallow bowl depth. The potstickers were tasty, but were surprisingly tiny. I could easily eat 12 pieces on my own whereas 6 pieces would normally be enough at other spots for an appetizer. Since this is a new location, everything feels efficient and well run. I received my food within 5 minutes of ordering despite the restaurant being packed. The staff is quick and knows what they are doing. The tables are kept clean and the staff usually give some freebie to kids. The restaurant self service, so be prepared to grab your food, utensils, sauces, and to clear your own table. Overall a convenient and organized spot with good beef soup, but the portion sizes may leave you wanting a bit more. read more

Bafang opened up 5 min from work so I had to be there first day of soft opening. I got there at 11:30am and the line was at the door. Took about 30 min to order and food was ready in 15-20 min. My friend's order was ready in 10 min. Fast forward to a month later, they have online ordering available! They'll deactivate it when it's too busy, but order early and you can grab & go! Pro tip: park at the garage across the street and walk over. The place is spacious and bright. Plenty of seating. They have two lines: center is for dumplings, potstickers, noodles, soup, etc. The left side of the shop has a line for the box lunches/dinners. Choose carbs: -fried rice -steamed rice -stir fried noodles *get it "ba so mi" style topped with bean sprouts & braised pork belly! Choose meat: fried pork chop or fried chicken Choose a veggie: -sautéed green beans -broccoli cauliflower -Brussel sprouts They now sell the sweet pickled cucumbers for $4.50. You order at the counter and find a spot to bring your tray of food. Service was pretty fast and efficient I got combo #4, which came with 6 potstickers and the Bafang signature noodle. The potstickers were not good in my opinion, as it barely had a crunch and the filling was pretty flavorless. It was honestly disappointing. The noodles were good. They had a spicy mala sauce and the texture of the noodles was good Overall, I'd give this meal a 5/10. Some bad, some good which balances it out to be average. The total price of my meal was $16.10, so not the worst by Bay Area standards. I would come again though to try something new. We finally tried this new Ba Fang in Santa Clara. I had first heard about this chain when I went to the one in San Diego and the food was pretty good. Today I ordered combo #1 with 12 potstickers and a bowl of Corn chowder and my husband ordered the beef noodle soup. The portions were pretty good. Yes the pot stickers are not crunchy (from another review), but it was still tasty. The beef noodle soup is not as flavorful as Duan Chun Zhen, but I liked that they didn't overcook the meat and the taste is fairly Taiwanese. It was way better than Mian in Cupertino which we just had a few days ago. The soup was not so salty! We got here before 11:30am on a Saturday and parking was not too easy. Next time we may need to try the parking structure across the street. There were a lot of families with younger children and tables were full. I would definitely return and try other items on the menu soon. read more
