(Note: written by a friend) I have been gluten free and dairy free for 6 years. I have suffered the indignity of Udi's gluten free bagels, which are the best of the worst out there. I saw the gluten free bagel sign in the window over the summer and thought I'd give it a try. I mean, I've already had dry cardboard masquerading as a bagel, so why not? Enter a gluten free bagel that tastes like a really darn good NY bagel. Almost Ess a bagel quality - in fact, I'd call it Ess a bagel's gluten free cousin. Too good to be true? They use 100% gluten free flour, but it's right next to the gluten bagels and they use the same prep area. Works for me, but may not be ok for others. I come here 2-3 times a week for these bagels. A bit spendy, but worth it for me. 5* for the gluten free bagels!!! Note: I can't speak to their regular bagels. read more

Within 2 weeks of opening they've implemented a 6 dollar minimum on credit cards. Good luck with that working out in NYC in 2016 when people want to just buy a quick bite or coffee. Also, all the positive reviews for this place were made by brand new Yelp profiles in which this place is their only review... And made within days of the store opening. 50% off bagels, soup and sandwiches for grand opening is such a steal. The shop has a nice layout. It has a huge selection of food from bagels, pastries, snacks to drinks. I had both the bagels and sandwiches and they taste good. Not like incredibly amazing but good. And the people working there are also nice. Grand opening special , what a steal huh ? not even. The line for ordering is super disorganized. You don't know when it's your turn to order because it's so confusing ! The people that take your order are nice ! however the cashier's attitude is disgusting. Put a god dam smile on your face! The first thing they say to you when you walk up to pay is that card is minimum $6. And I'm not that only one that says that. They should first find out how the customer is paying first before saying that bullshit. How about learning to greet your customers first before saying any of that bullshit. As for the bagels they're just meh ! You can definitely get better bagels else where ! it's too chewy ! We stumbled into this new spot as we searched for some coffee and AC wall units after dinner. Apparently they opened in April of 2016 and some how we missed that! Anyway, the place is nicely decorated and clean and they have various types of bagels and pastries to go with the many flavors of coffee and teas. One star for the great location. Second star for the nice modern design and general concept of this place. Other than that, Bagel Belly seriously needs to reconsider their whole operation! The bagels are mediocre at best. I honestly think Dunkin Donuts bagels are tastier and have a better texture. We went to Bagel Belly three times to avail ourselves of the opening week special discount. Three times they messed up our orders, and every time we pointed out the mishap they blamed us for not communicating our order more clearly to them (?)Sorry but I'm a New York native and if there's anything that I know how to do properly its order a bagel with shmear in this town. If I order a bagel with cream cheese, I should not have to preface as a matter of course that I don't want my bagel toasted. I also should not have to clarify several times that I want nova lox with cream cheese, not salmon cream cheese spread. They really need to get with the local program here. Also, I ordered a garden salad off of their menu and they were out of 5 of the ingredients. This was a salad that they had printed and listed on their own damn menu. To boot, the guy was visibly irked by me because he had already started making the salad before deciding to tell me about everything they were out of, and I wasn't prepared to just pick out all new ingredients on fly. On top of the tasty bagels, they have such a wide variety of cream cheeses, sandwiches, and beverages (tea, juice, and even beer for boozy brunch lovers). We were walking thru the neighborhood on a recent visit to NY and saw this cute shop and decided to stop in for breakfast as I wanted to try a true NY bagel. Hubby and son both had breakfast sandwiches which they said were delish. I had a garlic bagel and smear. Took me forever to decide on a flavor as there were so many temping choices - finally decided on the pineapple. Overall everything was good. Ordering is a little confusing as you start on the left and work towards the register. Also the cashier was rather rude, short and not helpful even though it was obvious we were not from NY and it wasn't even busy when we were there. Good bagels in this neighborhood, and a variety of other products, but they're a bit pricy. The place is poorly designed and confusing, so chances are, many people will pass in front of you before you understand how things work. I ordered catered breakfast delivery for 20 people and it seriously exceeded my expectations! The delivery was prompt, the delivery person was courteous and helpful, and the platters were beautiful (especially the fruit, which was very fresh and arranged beautifully)! This place is terrible. The bagels were small and hard like store bought would be. Very overpriced and they got our order wrong. I ordered an egg bagel with lox cream cheese and after trying to explain a few different times to the guy he ended up making 2 with plain cream cheese and lox. We only wanted one with lox cream cheese bit salmon and wanted to order a different second bagel. I ended up buying the two wrong ones because I didn't want them to go to waste but then got to the register and was charged an extortionate amount for the poor product. 2 salmon bagels and a bottle of water was $30. The whole thing was a shame and I'm furious. They also have real bagels hanging up as decorations and we noticed ants and bugs on the decoration bagels on the wall. I would not go back and I definitely don't recommend it especially compared to all of the amazing NYC bagels and options available even in the same neighborhood. Wanted a quick bite before I caught a train at penn station. Ordered an iced vanilla latte and had to throw it out after a few sips bc I literally just could not enjoy it. It tasted terrible. Our office has a bagel blogger so we've been going around the area trying different bagel shops. I had an everything bagel toasted with jalapeno cream cheese. You know how they say a bagel is the equivalent of eating 6 slices of bread? You can taste it here. The bagel is dense and chewy, and it negates getting the bagel toasted. I wasn't a fan. It's also maybe a dollar more expensive than most of the other bagel places in the area. read more

Really - if you're going to make the trek to New York and then east village for bagels, there are much better options than this. The bagels are chunky with little oomf in them (they're smaller because they feel more dense). All of the fun stuff (sesame, poppy, etc) that's on the outer side of the bagel falls off easily. Came here after a morning run. It's best described as OK. The bagels aren't terrific, but they are indeed edible, at least as of their opening day. They seem to sell too many things especially when they specialize in bagels. It would have cost me about 4 dollars for a toasted bagel and cream cheese normally but the first day half off deal made the price out to be $2 plus tax. I still would prefer going to Bob's bagels where the bagel itself is cheaper, fresher and tastier. read more

I was excited to try it out bc it's on the way during my daily commute. Got an everything bagel with olive cream cheese. The bagel texture was off, a little dense and stale feeling even after it was toasted. The cream cheese was strangely sweet and I had to wipe it off to enjoy the bagel at all. Overall not great flavor etc... The place itself is nice, but it reminds me of a bodega that happens to have a better appearance. May give it another go in a few months when they have settled in and try something else, who knows maybe it was just my particular order! Tip: they have a $6 minimum for credit cards! read more

This is my experience with Bagel Belly after scoping out 20+ bagel shops in the city: "The Dunkin' Donuts Bagel" Order: Dry cinnamon raisin bagel Bagel cost: $1.25 Wait time: No wait at 3:40pm Friday Friendly server, though he mixed up the order and gave me a blueberry bagel instead of a cinnamon raisin bagel. One look at the bagel bin showed they were out of everything bagels. Maybe they were out of cinnamon raisin bagels, too, and that's why I got blueberry. The bagel itself looks and tastes like a Dunkin' Donut quality bagel: smaller, dense, and not chewy. The saving grace is the luscious blueberry aroma, which could probably be repurposed as a perfume ball. One smell and you'll be hooked. read more

Stumbled upon this place and are very happy we did! We were wanting a rainbow bagel but couldn't find anywhere and this place did. It was super yummy along with the sprinkle cream cheese. We also got a chocolate bagel but thought it was chocolate chips but it was sprinkles...quite upsetting BUT the strawberry cream cheese we chose to go with definitely made up for it. read more

Stopped in for breakfast this past weekend which was the grand opening. 50% off. Right around the corner. Why not give it a try. The outside looking in is nice enough compared to what used to occupy this space. Not sure this place will last in the neighborhood. The bagels had no real taste to them and really sub par for a nyc bagel shoppe. I dont think this will be a long term issue but it was pretty busy that opening morning and the ordering and checkout seemed to be a bit all over the place. This place faces some stiff competition compared to some other nearby established bagel places like thompkins sq bagels and ess a bagel. Ill walk the extra few blocks to either of those for a better bagel. read more

I was initially hesitant to come here after reading the mixed reviews, but was really pleased with the dozen bagels / cream cheese I got this morning. The bagels were still hot out of the oven when I stopped by around 7am and were flavorful and well-made. I also didn't encounter any of the cashier issues other people mentioned, but get the sense they're still trying to train people. Bottom line: they have good bagels (ie much better than Panera or the grocery stores nearby) at decent prices (2 bagels free when you get a dozen and a 10% student discount). I come this place almost every morning to get some fresh juice. Only one complain is casher - system. Owner should put one more person. 6 people waiting too much, after 2 customers left. or train the beagle man flexibly help the casher instead of just waiting. Or hire person who makes yummy juices. Went here for lunch today. I arrived with my friend before a large group and we placed our order. I waited about ten minutes and noticed they were giving orders to those who ordered after us. I asked about my order and was told they gave it to someone else. I asked for it to be made again, and they said yes. I waited five more minutes and noticed they were preparing other food, so I asked about my sandwich. It was then that I noticed they started to make my sandwich! I couldn't believe it. I finally got my order after waiting a total of 20 minutes. When I actually started eating, I noticed the apple that had been cut to put inside my wrap had the sticker on it, cut up into slices. I am so turned off by this place, and I feel it's necessary to get the word out that they are slow and careless so no one else wastes their time. read more

Absolutely disgusting. They were touching tuna salad, chicken salad, then making other bagels without changing their gloves. They also change the prices of their bagels without notice and I ended up having to pay over $5 for a bagel with cream cheese. Absolutely NOT worth it.
