I was craving a fresh baked bagel & decided to try this place (twice) A quant little building located in a small shopping area is very inviting. The smell & display of fresh baked bagels is appealing with a wide variety of classic / unusual. My choice was an energy bagel loaded with nuts, seed & berries. Very good. It's cash only, this is unusual in the day, but they do have an ATM. The servers greet you with a smile & are very accomodating in preparing your order. What I do not care for is other 3 staff sitting behind the counter on bench shelves & texting. Meanwhile the milk is empty, the trash is overflowing & tables are dirty. Please, it's work time, you are not being paid to text. I go to Bagels Plus every few weeks for lunch (I work down the road). I've ordered the exact same sandwich every single time I've been there...yet every time I'm there they look at me like they've never seen me before and ask the same questions about what I want on my sandwich. I certainly wouldn't give a bad review for that - I just find it really odd! Food is fresh and they really pile on the toppings. Yes, the owners appear a bit gruff but when you chat with them they're really quite pleasant. Never had a problem with the college kids working there. Sandwiches have been on the messy side lately, don't know what's up with that. Cash only is a drag. Dine-in atmosphere is usually nice and quiet, marred only by the occasional screaming child, but so much nicer than the crowded, busy lunch places. read more

I had heard from friends that frequented Bagels Plus a legend pertaining to the owner. Apparently the owner actually went to Jerusalem to study the art of bagel making, thus returning to the states with the same penchant for baking up bagels as any hasidic hero of the NY bagel world. Quite honestly I wouldn't be able to compare and contrast to the extent where my opinion should hold any leverage in an argument of who makes better bagels, but I do think these bagels are the best choice in about a 20 mile radius. Plain, Wheat, Veggie, Spinach, Garlic, Onion, Everything, Salt, Marble, are just a sampling of the bagels available at this fabled establishment. The range of toppings, traditional and quirky, combined with the locally provided coffee, all makes for a terrific bagel eating endeavor. They have some really good kefir drinks, and some splendid pickles offered as sides. It can become crowded awfully fast. Equally flustering experiences can come when ordering. Only high school age girls work there. Don't they make everyone nervous and awkward feeling? If none of these peppy gals are present, then you are left to deal with the pilgrimage-performing owner and his wife. Decent bagels and sandwiches. Unfortunately the only place in the area where one can get a smoked salmon bagel sandwich. Bruegers Bagels have basically all disappeared. This is 2020 and they refuse to accept credit cards (MasterCard or Visa) but they will gladly point to the third party ATM kiosk placed in the shop. This ATM charges you $2.50 to take out cash. I'm sure bagels plus makes a percentage on this fee. So instead of making things more convenient for their patrons they decide to swindle them. The owner/manager? is also a pompous grumpy ol grouch. I would go in there way more often giving them more business but because of these two things I refuse go to this establishment. Their loss for avoiding that small credit card fee. Just raise the price of your items by 15 cents if your reason for not taking cards is the fee charged to you. I would gladly pay that over $2.50 to take out $20 because most people don't carry cash these days. read more

This place has excellent bagels an that's it. Don't get the coffee or anything else and certainly don't eat in. I've been a few times in the last month and even though the bagels are great, all the other little things really annoy me enough to not go back. They charge to slice the bagels. Come on! You are selling bagels, I don't know any other place that does this and it's a major turn off. I got a cappuccino and rather than using fresh milk that hadn't been steamed before, the teenager making my beverage grabbed the silver steaming caraffe out of the fridge, swirled it and debated it and then proceeded to burn the ever living crap out of the milk. When I finally got my capo, it tasted awful. And for christs sake, don't assume that the extra change due to me for my order is going in the tip jar. This actually happened twice!!! My order came to $9.25 once and the girl just put it in the tip jar and raced off to get the next order. The second time, I was owed $.15 and the girl shut the register without giving me the change. In high school, bagels plus was one of the places I would go to during lunch or when I was skipping class. Their bagels are awesomely chewy/tasty/ with just enough crunchiness on the outside. The other items on the menu are passable as accessories to the main attraction. Go to the upstairs seating area, and look outside the window to get a little slice of suburban life off RT. 2A while you munch on your awesome bagel and think about escaping the void landscape of Acton. read more

Not sure about all the haters that have left previous reviews. I found the bagels and cream cheeze on par with other non chain bagel joints. The cash only thing is suspicious putting a dark cloud over the proprietor as to his "tax reporting" intentions. Bagels Plus has the MOST DELICIOUS bagels in the area, period. However, one must go through Dante's Inferno to get them. There is no customer service; rather there's a gaggle of teen-age looking girls who are more interested reconnecting with friends who stop by than they are dishing up these yummy bagels. To stay that they move at a glacial pace would be a lie. In fact, moving that fast would be a vast improvement requiring neck braces for anyone in the shop. This gaggle seems to be mesmerized by the one toaster in the shop. Which I can understand the attraction to shiny objects, but girls - it's a toaster! Together, they put the bagels in and together they watch them come out. Not one of them is able to break their zombie-like stare and actually multi-task. Management, where are you? Do you have a clue as to what goes on in your shop? Can you imagine how your revenue and customer satisfaction would increase if your staff actually moved like they had a purpose? No, hanging out at the toaster is not customer service. No, chatting rather than paying attention to the next person in line is not customer service. So, let's circle back to customer service, in general, as it doesn't thrive here. Imagine the experience that I and others might have if we are kindly greeted by an employee rather than treated like another interruption to their otherwise exciting life. That's right, it means the group worship of the toaster comes to an end. No, I don't stop here for bagels anymore; but my husband does. It's torture for him, but happy wife, happy life. read more

Great bagels, and much much much better than the other local choices (grocery store or Dunkin Donuts bagels). Pumpernickel and spinach are my top two bagel choices here. They also make great breakfast sandwiches. Don't let the employees' ages fool you- although they look to be in high school still, they are friendly and efficient. What can I say about this place... Well a lot! First let me say I am much more of a donut guy. With that said, I do also love bagels. I am a huge fan of Dunkin Donuts. however over time, Dunks has bored me with the bland selection of bagels they offer. My wife kept telling me about this place called Bagels Plus. She swore by it and I kept putting it off. When I finally went with her, I was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't believe the selection of bagels, varieties I never would have thought of. I'm not going to make any recommendations, simply go there yourself and I guarantee you will find something different that you will love. Prices are not bad considering what you get for your money. I go there for Bagels and 9 times out of 10 they are really good. The 10th Bagel is certainly better than anything you'd get at a chain or frozen. The owner needs to get the help to step it up, put down their phones and realize they are there to get people in and out as fast as possible. As far as being Cash Only--Big Deal. The bagels are great. I have a suggestion for the owner regarding the coffee drinks. It's really obvious that there has been no investment in proper coffee standards training. I have never seen any worker steam milk properly. They stick the jug under and turn on the steam for a while, then randomly pull the tip out to make to some bubbles. They never check the temp with a thermometer or by hand. This is "winging it" so I would suggest some actual training. You do not need to spoon out froth if you steam milk correctly. The spoon is the sign of a lack of understanding, I will not order coffee from any place where I see one being used. Secondly, the portafilters are to be stored in the group head when not in use - not on top of the machine to get cold. You can certainly serve coffee this way, but some investment into understanding best practices will transform your product. Pay a visit to a training lab like Counter Culture down in Somerville. It will open your eyes. read more

I have been to bagels plus many times. The bagels and coffee are the best I have ever had. You can tell this is a family run business. Not a chain. Everything is fresh and delicious. Give them a break negative people. It's tough to run a business right now. Everything is EXPENSIVE for everyone. Yes even the owners have bills. Do you want to see the country full of chain donut stores? The food is fresh and delicious with great quality products. Owners are not rude they are trying to run a sucessful business. Bagels plus makes the best bagels I have ever had!!! The combinations of their homemade cream cheeses and bagels are to die for! Bacon scallion cream cheese is nothing like I have ever had before- delicious! Why am I only giving them 4 stars instead of 5? The fact that they don't take a credit card! I very rarely carry cash, and I don't know many people who still do- maybe I'm just part of the younger generation, but they need to catch up with the times. My partner and I were driving through the area and just had to stop in and try some bagels when we saw the sign. Great bagel selection with some interesting flavors like sunflower seed. They also offered a ton of coffee drinks and even kefir smoothies. Cash only but there's an ATM in the store. We ended up getting a bagel egg sandwich, a bagel with butter and a bagel with cream cheese plus a cranberry muffin (way too bitter for my liking) and a regular iced coffee for under $15. 5 stars for MA, 4 stars overall. every locale does a different bagel. it's like pizza. NJ is sort of like NYC, which is airy, crispy, even sourdoughy, depending on the place. CT has no good bagels (if you'd like to challenge that notion, query me). RI does a new england bagel, as does most of MA, which is heavier, bready, and a different creature entirely. with my personal favorite being the NY bagel (i'm biased and this is my full disclosure), bagels plus seems to do the closest hybrid between the MA and NYC bagel. chewy, crispy, a little more bready than what i'd find in my best NYC bagel, a little less bready than i'd get in a MA bagel. can't hurt that my company feeds us free bagels from this place every week. happy. :) read more

Still love this place after more than 9 years of Sundays, and elementary school breakfast buffets, breakfast gatherings and sleepovers . We've tried one other place, and grocery store bagels a couple/three times, only to run right back to Bagels Plus, defying traffic odds on Great Road, (!!***##!!). It's the best eatery in Acton, hands down! I don't even mind the lines on the weekend because they move right along! These are after all, THE BEST BAGELS I've ever had. Always fresh, best toppings, best selection. (Spinach bagel with whitefish salad, onions and tomatoes, egg bagel with lite cream cheese, lox, onions and sprouts) I could leave off one star because my order is quite frequently incorrectly filled-but the quality of the bagels makes up for it. While several of the kids that work behind the counter seem efficient and hardworking, there are always one or two that don't take the work seriously enough to get it done right. It probably isn't a big deal for bagel newbies, but I'm a bagel stickler, and when my order is all wrong, I get grumpy. Guess I ought to open up and check my bagel before I pay for it. We frequently get home a couple of bagels or a container of cream cheese short. That aside, why does the owner only employ young girls on his front end? There are men in the kitchen and the owner is frequently on the front end. There has never been in my experience a young man among the young women. Why? The bagels are good but this place is horribly run. The children behind the counter are so slow and lazy it's unbelievable. The location is convenient as it is right next-door to most of the shopping plazas in Acton, and it seemed like a great place to go based on the reviews I read here. I wasn't all that impressed. Points for the cozy decor and good variety of bagels, coffee flavors and just general menu options, but I was disappointed that they ran out of lox on a weekend morning when that was the one bagel sandwich I really wanted. The most irritating part was definitely the gaggle of teenage girls they employ; nothing against teens needing a job, but their whole system of taking orders sucks. Instead of forming an assembly-like line like some other places, they each take their own order and then prepare it and ring it up, and it only slows everything down. It took probably 10 minutes for the girl to make an egg and cheese bagel sandwich and a chocolate latte. As for the food itself, the bagel was pretty good, the egg/cheese was ok, and the latte was fairly decent. It's really too bad that they don't take cards but it doesn't seem to slow their business down at all despite that inconvenience. I'm new to the area so I'm sure there aren't many other places nearby for good bagels/coffee, but I think it's worth a shot to find one. I think if they hired some older/more experienced staff, fixed their wobbly tables, made sure to order enough lox for the Sunday morning breakfast crowd and started accepting Visa, I'd probably become a regular. read more
