My group of friends called prior and came around 11:40 hoping for breakfast/brunch. From the start we didn't receive water or any drinks for at least 15 minutes. They took our card to "hold it" for the check, not sure if this is standard procedure. Regardless, we were told we needed to wait until after 12 to order food so that they could make us lunch, we agreed even though we called prior to reserve spots for brunch. Then we were told to wait until 12:15 since the kitchen was backed up, then ended up waiting until 12:25 (45 minutes) to even ORDER. Our waitress did not seem to care about the timing whatsoever. Once we ordered, the food arrived in about 25 minutes. The food was very sub par, if this rating was only about the food I would give it maybe 2.5 stars on a good day. Unfortunately the service completely clouded my view of this establishment and I will never be coming back. read more

The calamari steaks were excellent. The salad part was fine, just enough dressing, but way too many red onions, none of which I ate. My Mexican boyfriend got the surf and turf burrito and loved it and the salsa it came with and ordered more salsa to finish up his chips with. The first place we stopped to eat when we arrived in San Diego. Just came upon it as we were looking for another place. We saw such a crowd, that we thought it must be something good. We were right. Sat outside and watched the waves and beautiful people go by. SD has some gorgeous people inhabiting it and it's so much fun to people watch. The drinks were good, but the food was the star. We were staying at the Beach Cottages and Baja Beach Grill was the nearest restaurant to our hotel. We saw their 2 for 1 special on drinks (4-8 pm weekdays) so decided to give it a try. Big mistake. Before you order at this place, pay close attention to the menu. Some items have prices, while others don't. Margaritas and beer have no prices. If you order these during their happy hour, be prepared to pay an outlandish price...as much as $10 for a small beer based on our experience. Be sure to ask about pricing on items that have no price next to them. And if you don't want 2 of something, order one for yourself and give the other to your companion, assuming you want the same thing. Service was good, although our fries arrived ahead of the burgers by quite some time. This surprised even our waitperson. We had a couple of burgers and shared an order of fries. The burgers (which came with chips and salsa) and fries were quite tasty. However, paying about $50 for these plus a beer and a wine seemed like highway robbery to us. Lesson learned We won't be back. One last comment. The restaurant manager seems like a really nice guy who works very long hours, but regularly chose to smoke his cigarettes next to the sign that says "no smoking within 15 feet of entrance." Such a fun place to grab drinks after a day at the beach! There was a bit of a wait when we went but it the got us seated very quickly. We got chips and 3 dips and nachos--the nachos were way too spicy for me with the jalepenos so I suggest getting those on the side if you are afraid of spice like me. Other than that it was pretty much what you would expect of nachos. The margs are pretty sweet but good. The only bummer is that the regular marg in an 8oz cup is $17 dollars so you are easily convinced to upgrade to the 36oz for $2 more. I don't think I will ever be back at this place. The 2 times I have been here in a row have been horrible. My friends and I decided to eat there after walking down the beach in the morning. We were all in a great mood when we arrived, ready to start our day with some food and drinks, and right when we sat down, they told us they would not be serving us. Mind you, none of us had a drink yet, and the host told us that the bartender said we were "too intoxicated" and she would not serve us. The host was very polite, but the fact that the bartender even said that was unbelievable because my friends and I were all in shock. After all, we all just started our day. We were all just confused and left. I'm not sure if it's because we were laughing and smiling while walking in or something, but apparently, this place does not like it when people walk in smiling and laughing. So just know that your server will now keep your card until you're ready to leave. husband and I enjoyed a 32 ounce La Paz Margarita (Patron Silver tequila, pomegranate liquor, Triple Sec, Sweet & Sour, splashes of orange juice and lime.....$18.00). Like, damn. These margaritas are unbeatable. A+ on quality and quantity, these suckers are huge! 100% shareable unless you're a beast and can hold your liquor! For food we shared the Muchos Nachos (a mountain of fresh tortilla chips topped with a melted cheese blend, refried beans, guacamole, jalapeños, sour cream and pico de gallo. ADD grilled chicken or steak +3.69.....$9.99). Not bad, however I'd wish they used queso dip instead of melted cheese because once it cooled and hardened it wasn't nearly as good. Yeah, it's just melted shredded cheese. If you don't like your nachos like this, stay away. I still recommend the Lobster Mac and Lobster Taquitos!!!
