The cupcakes themselves are amazing, but not the best experience. The last time I visited NYC I went to a different Baked by Melissa and I remember there being so many options. I definitely did not have the same experience this time. There were only 7 fresh cupcake options- the most popular ones and the flavor of the month. It seemed like this locations big thing was already packed containers, so if that's what you're looking for, this location is the way to go. They had vegan, gluten free, latest and greatest, Christmas, valentines, zodiac, tobasco and seasonal- all in ready-to-go containers. Those all had 24 in a pack though which seemed like a ton, so I wanted to build my own of a smaller pack which was hard to do. Inside, the employees seemed to be judging us. Also there is no where to sit and enjoy your goodies- it's definitely a take to go place. They are definitely NOT an all natural company, their cupcakes are full of dyes and chemicals- even the plain white one. The cupcakes themselves are tasty and I love that they are so small and easy to pop in your mouth. It doesn't feel as much as a full sized cupcake even when eating multiple. Unfortunately, my recent experience at this location was disappointing. When I arrived to pick up my order, I was met with a very rude and dismissive response from someone named Karen. When I asked a simple question, she responded with, "IDK, I don't work here," which was both confusing and unprofessional. If she is interacting with customers, she should be properly trained, or perhaps reconsidered for a customer-facing role. My daughter wanted to go here and get the minis to take home. The employees were not that helpful to be honest. We got a variety and we were going to be taking them on a plane. They said they would be ok. After the employee ran my credit card, I saw sign that mentioned the rewards program (which I am a part of). I said please add these for my rewards - to which she replied - I can't do that. I asked her why she didn't ask me this before you rang up my credit card. She was totally rude. I asked for a phone # for me to call to get the rewards added to my account. What a pain. The other employee said - it was an honest mistake - yes, it might have been but she should have made it right. She could care less. So when I got home, I tried calling - but then I emailed and they did get back to me the next day - I had to follow up again to make sure they added my points to my account -which eventually they did. If you have a sweet tooth, this is the place to be for a quick bite. Each cupcake is bite sized, moist and very sweet. $1 for a bite. It is nice for serving the purpose of a quick fix. They used to give you a discount for buying in 6 or more but they no longer offer that. Each bite sized cupcake will cost a dollar even if you get a 25-pack. 3.5 stars Got a box of 12 mini cupcakes as a gift from my best friend! I've passed by this place on several occasions while heading to work but never gave it a try because of the mediocre reviews and because the small cupcakes make them look prepackaged. The cupcakes are actually not bad though. They're all very moist and not dry. I actually like how they're small because then you get to try a lot of different flavors at a time without feeling guilty. All of them tasted good but the flavors that I particularly liked were: - Chocolate chip pancake - Peanut butter and jelly - Tie dye - A white one with a pink cookie on top I think boxes of these cupcakes make great gifts. They're packaged very nicely and they taste good as well. Obviously they're not as good as the juggernauts like Magnolia and Molly's but they still make for great treats. I've never actually been to a Baked by Melissa, but I've gotten their cupcakes as gifts a few times, and I think that for that purpose they make really great ones. I don't know if I would ever buy these delicacies for myself because a dollar a bite (sometimes more) seems excessive, but there's no denying those really are heavenly mouthfuls of sweetness. I'm not super into regular sized cupcakes because I think they generally look way better than they taste, particularly the cake part, which can come out rather dry, but the dainty Baked by Melissa treats are scrumptious. If you've never had them, they're worth writing down as a Secret Santa wishlist item so you don't need to feel guilty about spending that kind of money on baked goods. read more

Super cute! While driving by I thought they were mini French macarons and I was half right. They specialize in micro mini cupcakes, so small they're only $1 each and less in calories. Wasn't able to try any micro macarons, saving room for Ladureé. I only tried the very green Mint Cookie, tasted ok, crisp bites of Oreo on there. Red velvet looked good too. As I was walking down Lexington I decided to stop by Baked by Melissa and try one of these teeny tiny cupcakes! The price was right-$1.00. I wanted one with peanut butter. I don't like jelly so the nice girl at the counter said to try the chocolate with peanut butter inside. I think she called it Scotcheroo. It was so small I took one bite just to see the inside. Then I finished it off! It is really tiny enough for one bite! So delicious! That was my first Baked by Melissa experience. Now today I see they added mini muffins. Excellent. Moist and bite size. Just enough to take with me in my bag. They have a cute little plastic to go box. When I left I snapped a picture of the one I purchased today. This is a take out only place. The space is small. It will fill up with customers. I now have a time of day I go when it's not as busy. I chat with employees. They are really nice! The cupcakes and my muffin today are very tasty. I've been wanting to try this place for so long and I'm so glad I finally got the chance! I got a box of 6 bite sized cupcakes for $5.50. I know a lot of people were complaining about the price but o understand. Yes they are small but they are so intricately designed and obviously take a lot of time to make. New cupcake location? A few blocks away from school and work? In most cases, those facts alone would have me sold. I'd be frequenting this place all the time for sweet treats, BUT i just really don't get Baked By Melissa. Why you so tiny, cupcakes?! No, really. They're just too small, i feel like a strange giant next to them. I honestly don't feel like they're worth a $1 each. If they're the size of the quarter, then they should cost a quarter. Sprinkles is just down the block and they sell decent sized, delicious cupcakes for $3. Much better deal in my opinion. Then again, i could be biased since i LOVE spinkles. I do like that the decor is sleek and modern, all white and glass. Very UES. The flavors are also quite interesting, the tie-dye and mint chocolate chip are pretty tasty. If only i could actually get the full taste, you would need to munch on at least 2 or 3 of the same flavor to even understand what you're eating. Cute concept, but way overpriced! At almost a dollar per piece (depending on how many you purchase at once), these lil suckers are about an inch in size and you can literally finish one in 2 bites. They do have a good variety of flavors though. Here are the ones I've tried just now: Tie Dye Triple Chocolate Fudge Red Velvet Chocolate Dipped Pink Velvet Cookies & Cream Lemon Cheesecake Each lil cupcake was surprisingly moist and all the flavors were just ok... with the exception of the lemon cheesecake (their Mini of the Month), which was pretty gross... way overly sweet and tart.. highly not recommended! As for quantities, you can purchase these in a box of 3. 6. 12, 25, 50, 100 and they get slightly cheaper per piece as you buy more. They also have a bunch of flavors that are chocolate dipped that go over a dollar per piece. I tried the chocolate dipped pink velvet and it was pretty good, but still did not justify the pricetag, sorry! Overall, Baked by Melissa's was fun to try, but I doubt I'd go back for more... especially with Sprinkles and Magnolias right around the vicinity.. read more

I don't know how many of these places around NY can make money enough to keep standing. I guess only one way: Tourists. The miniature cupcakes are a big waste though. I swallowed it in one gulp. Came here last week with my sister to pick up a 20-pack of Baked by Melissa's signature mini-cupcakes. Service was easy and they allowed us to custom built our pack and choose pretty much whatever flavors we wanted as long as they weren't covered in hard chocolate - those cost extra. But whatevs, with such an array of different flavors it's totally cool. We got cookie dough, Oreo cookies & cream, peppermint chocolate (complete with a Junior Mint on top - THESE WERE MY FAVORITE!!), their flavor of the month which is a hot cocoa (topped with a mini marshmallow), red velvet, triple chocolate fudge, chocolate chip pancake and a bunch more. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars, but decided to go with 3 (A-OK) because that's exactly what Baked by Melissa bakeries are. Yes, their cupcakes are tiny, overpriced for what they are and although delicious, after awhile they all kind of start to taste the same to me (except for their yummy peppermint one which is apparently limited edition and only a part of their winter collection, booooo!) but they make for fun gifts and are calorie-efficient for whenever you just want a quick burst of sweetness. The staff at this location were friendly, quick and efficient. I would come back here if I needed to pick some up for a gathering of a cute gift, but not to stuff my face. Yummy good cupcakes the size of a quarter, how wonderful. I love that some have a filling. Each month, there is a new cupcake of the month. $1 each, but also sold in groups of 3, 6, & larger, that you custom select. I wish these cupcakes were bigger-- but then again, these small things are as sweet as it gets. I personally think they're just right. Some find it too sweet, others find it bland. We all have different tastebuds, ya know? So go try it out for yourself! Having it one time just to know what the hype is about isn't so bad. So Baked by Melissa is very interesting to me. I remember it being a little stand in my local mall in Garden State Plaza. I didn't think much of it until the business grew and started to make macarons. I love their gluten free cupcakes and their macarons are delicious. The birthday cake one is to die for! Call me crazy, but I like them a lot more than some of the bougie macaron places' macarons. Oh, one thing you need to try, given that you are not lactose intolerant, their funfetti cake ice cream. Vanilla ice cream with funfetti cupcake which also includes the frosting!!! They also give you mixed sprinkles on the side. You cannot help but smack your neighbor to the right because it is go good! It's great because you can try a bunch of different flavors of tiny cupcake bites instead of committing to a whole cupcake of one flavor.
