I came here for lunch on Saturday. There was a long line to order but it went by quickly and the macaroons and baked goods were fun to look at (and tempting!) while I waited in line to order. I liked the high ceilings and big windows that made it fun to people watch on Rock Rose. There are also chairs and tables available for sitting outside. My food was very good and I enjoyed tasting different flavors of macarons. My favorite one was the pistachio! read more

I gave this place 3 tries and I feel like the food and drinks here are mediocre... at best, but the place itself is super cute. Come for the vibes but don't expect good food. Do expect to pay the price of good food though :) Because of how cute this place is, I have hopes the food here is good too but I can't say so as of now. The croissants look so good every single time but it's just not it. It's super crispy so I love that but you don't taste the butter at all. I don't know how they did it but it's like they used just enough butter to make the layers happen and then the oven just sucks up all the buttery-ness. And for $4.5, I would rather spend it at places like Heaven Bakery, Tous Les Jours, or swedish hills. Almond croissant was good if you like super sweet fillings. I like sweets but this was way too sweet. I had to take off some of the fillings. I recommend the Central Market Almond croissants! Coffee. omg. I got a double espresso shots and I couldn't believe it was legal I had to pay for that. Okay I guess they didn't market themselves as a coffee shop but I can tell you my nespresso double shots tastes 10 times better and it cost 1/4 of what they charged. Two things I had there was not horrible are the quiche and the coffee cake muffin. It's pretty hard to mess up a quiche and they didn't. The coffee muffin was surprisingly good. This place is located at the domain so you'll have to park in the garage or you can find limited parking in front of the stores. There's usually a line here so don't expect a quick in and out. I don't want to hate this place cause the interior and exterior is nice! But I'm still trying to find what they do really well here cause if I'm eating out, I want good food/drinks. This bakery is located in The Domain. They do have seating outside and seating inside as well. They have a large selection of very beautiful, artful pastries. I only bought a dessert. The cheesecake. It was wonderfully creamy, little dollops of whip cream on top with slices of fruit. Kiwi and peaches. They service other kitchen foods, like quiche. I didn't see the whole menu, because I was just getting dessert. I will definitely come back for breakfast or a late breakfast next time I'm at the Domain. Wonderful staff, and delicious dessert. Bakery Lorraine is puzzling. It has so many things going well for it, and yet so many things wrong at the same time. I come here when visiting Austin's Domain Northside while on business. It's close proximity to my worksite is really convenient. However, when you place an order online, be aware to do it at least 35 minutes in advance. Even on a weekday they give themselves a lot of cushion to prepare a sandwich. The online ordering is supported by Square, so it's pretty easy to order but the last few times, the online ordering did not include the Domain Northside location, so I called them directly to place my order. One of the times I called a young gentleman answered the phone and it was like he had never taken a phone order before. He was fumbling and seemed to not know what was happening and seemed to go out of his way to make a spectacle on how foreign the idea of a phone order was. Now the food- when Bakery Lorraine brings it- THEY BRING IT! That being said, there is a consistency issue. I originally stuck to ordering the Chicken Salad Croissant- which on the best of days was the GOAT as far as a Chicken Salad Croissant is concerned. The chicken was succulent, the croissant light and flaky- it was the perfect realization of that dish. I ordered this 3 times and it was magnificent! Flash forward to a month later, and I order the same dish- and it's different. It's overwhelmed with purple onions and the chicken is dry. So unfortunate- knowing they are capable of such amazing quality is a totally let down when they serve the same dish but lacking. The bakery itself is bright and has a cute decor. But, all the times I've been in, I've never been compelled to eat here because of the obnoxiously loud pop music I hear. You would think the volume would be a bit more considerate of diners. I certainly don't want ultra-loud music if any kind blaring as I'm eating. Music can be a great enhancement to the atmosphere but the loud volume and not quite savvy music choices make it a dealbreaker for dining in. It's a French Bakery, not a nightclub. As previously mentioned, they like a lot of cushion time-wise when placing an order online. If you go in store to place an order for a pasty, forget it. There are so many people working at this location, yet they seem to be not working in concert with one another. One time I placed an order for a pastry and the wait for other people also just ordering pastries was unnecessarily long. There were many folks behind the counter, but instead of having multiple people work the pasty case, there was only one person. It makes for a long wait when ordering something ready made. Overall, I know Bakery Lorraine is capable of great things. But the lack of consistency and oversight on delivering a great experience is what holds it back for me. I will continue to come here, but always with the understanding that 1.) Ordering ahead will always take an unnecessarily long time, 2.) Don't bother with dining in- the ultra-loud music is a deal breaker and 3.) Expect inconsistencies. It's a gamble, but when it's good- it's exceptionally good! read more

We stopped by on Monday for breakfast, place was pretty empty, just 2-3 tables were seated, so was able to order as soon we entered, ordered cappuccino, drip coffee, blueberry scone and almond Croissant. The lady who took the order dint know they carry stevia until her college said they have it and I requested to add stevia while making the cappuccino, as I hate to pour it on foam and stirring it, but still they gave me as a side, when asked how many oz there cappuccino is, she had no idea, I think those are pretty basic stuffs to know. Drip coffee and cappuccino both were good. Blueberry scone was good nothing special. While staying in The Domain for the weekend, we stopped in here for breakfast one morning. They get quite busy, but there was plenty of seating to accommodate their dining guests. One thing I found odd was that they allow dogs inside a restaurant. I love dogs and have dogs and like that they can go shopping with their owners, but they really don't belong in a restaurant. Bakery Lorraine can get crowded and their service needs some work. I have been here a couple of times and their busy days are quite frustrating because of the waitime for food. But we finally gave it another shot on a weekday when both the wife and I were off of work. And service was better mostly because they weren't as busy. I usually get their croissant sandwich with bacon. Their croissant is so buttery and flakey, highly recommend most of their baked goods as long as you get them early and fresh. Muzak set to top Jazzercise speed. The tempo is meant to attract you into the store. The tempo is meant to get your pulse to move so you eat and drink fast. The tempo is meant to keep you from having a leisurely conversation or working on your computer. They want you out of the store fast so they can sell pastry to the next customer. All of Rock Rose sounds this way with similar up-tempo fortissimo. The music may be commissioned by Simon Properties Or it may be Bakery Lorraine's own production. But that gives you a sense of what Bakery Lorraine is all about. Fast, Glitzy and "Fun Fun Fun". * * * The room is a beautiful room filled with lots of natural light and well decorated. The sidewalk seating is some of the most pleasant in Austin. The espresso is first rate - nice and bitter. * * * The baked goods are terrible. One star at best. They look great sitting in the pastry case. Eating them is another story. My wife hated her croissant. My macaron had bad texture and did not taste good. My cinnamon toast was a godawful "Texas Toast" creation of a monster-sized slab of empty white bread with a "bruleed" cinnamon-sugar glaze on top. Whatever flavor the glaze "might have had" under ideal circumstances was lost in the Himalaya mountains of flavorless white bread. The dish was the perfect illustration of the concept "empty calories". * * * What Bakery Lorraine is perfect for is sitting on a sidewalk in the Domain watching the passing Rock Rose scene. Rock Rose is a great place to people watch. If you just drink coffee, you can do okay with this. It may be that the non-baked foods like the salads or the yogurt parfait are okay. The stock of Bakery Lorraine goes up dramatically if you want to people watch at the Domain and you don't want to get drunk. Alcoholics Anonymous folks - take note. * * * I personally prefer nerd cafes. I bring my computer - and want to get work done. I want the music in the coffee shop to be cutting edge. I want to have to go up to the barista and ask them what is on the sound system. The Domain does not put me in the mood I need to be in to do my best work. * * * Still Bakery Lorraine is a one of a kind institution. It fills a unique niche. If this is your niche, go for it. I ordered my favorite egg tartine which comes with a side salad. The eggs are soft and flavorful with Japanese kewpie which makes them very creamy. The BLT was also crusty with super crisp, non-greasy bacon, avocado, and arugula. I'm not sure what the popular item is that everyone is ordering, but I went with the croque madame to enjoy at the restaurant and ordered a blondie to enjoy later at home. The croque madame was not my favorite. It was a little too salty, and the potato wedges that came with it lacked flavor and were a little too thick. The blondie, however, was pretty tasty. My friend's avocado toast was really good. I loved the brioche bread they used, and they toasted it so the sides were slightly crispy. She ordered lox on the side, and it went very well with the toast. I thought they added a bit too much sugar into her vanilla latte, but I was a big fan of my own chai latte. It was the perfect sweetness, and I couldn't taste any of the chai particles in my mouth. The pumpkin panna cotta was a great dessert. It had some pumpkin seeds and cream, and the pumpkin flavor was very strong. I highly recommend Bakery Lorraine! I saw it more as a pastry shop than a potential brunch place, but it definitely has good food and drinks. I am a macaron lover and have purchased from this company several times in the past, both at Austin and San Antonio locations. Today I went to purchase a dozen macarons---typical order for me--expecting the quantity pricing for a dozen. Instead I was rung in a manner that the system didn't recognize as a dozen quantity order. I was in a rush as I had a lunch appointment nearby and didn't get a chance to review my receipt until later. When I realized the mistake on the receipt, I called the manager to explain the situation. All I wanted was either a logical explanation why I was charged more than the website stated pricing, or a simple admission of a human error on the register. That would have ended the issue for me. Instead the manager, Joshua, defended the pricing on my receipt and when I told him I was charged a $36 last time for a dozen order, he gave me a sarcastic remark "That's a good discount, I would take that".....and towards the end of my conversation he wanted to get rid of me by stating, he can refund the $3 to me. Which I found even more insulting. Clearly this manager is missing the point. I don't care about the $3. Either give me a logical explanation, like our website and store pricing slightly different, or an apology over the incorrect registering. I stopped by their location in the Domain shopping center around 4pm on a Wednesday, and they were already sold out of a lot of items by then. I just realized you can purchase items ahead of time on their website, and I'll have to make sure I do that the next time around. Especially since the person in front of me purchased the LAST almond croissant, sadness. I wasn't expecting the lemon curd filling, but it was actually really good- recommended! The cinnamon roll was just ok. It was a little on the dry side, and needed more cinnamon sugar filling- skip! I will be back to try more pastries and desserts from Bakery Lorraine. Indoor seating is available, and I believe they had some tables set up outdoors.
