Never.Ever.Again..Took over an hour to get most of our food. Our server disappeared 20 minutes in to our dining experience. Had to cancel part of our order because it was taking too long. Got there at 6:30, ordered by 6:40, my food came out around 7pm, husbands food came out at 7:30, by 8pm we gave up and cancelled the rest of our order. Surrounding tables were experiencing the same issue and we're having their food boxed togo because they couldn't wait around any longer. I asked for the manager but he/she didn't even bother to come out of the kitchen to speak to us. Just sent out the bill and told the waitress(who was friendly and I felt bad for her) to just offer us complimentary icecream which we declined cause we just wanted out of there. My family and I have been going to this Japanese restaurant location since it was showgi many years ago. It has since changed names/management to ninja sushi and now to bamboo sushi. This was the first time and probably last time I will be coming to bamboo sushi. Showgi's and ninja sushi were almost always busy but today when I walked in, the place was mostly empty. I thought this meant we could be seated quickly. After waiting 10 minutes with plenty of open seating, we were told it would be another 10 minutes to setup a table....we had a party of 5 and told them this when we first came in. We could have driven to and started eating at Almaden sushi before we would have been seated here. We left and went next door to the Thai restaurant, seated promptly and had our food ready within minutes. read more

My wife, 13 y.o son and I went last night on a recommendation of a friend. I had the Temptation and Shark roll, son had two rolls and the wife had a dinner plate. The bill came to $81 Once again the food is really good and you will pay for it as well. So if you have a teenager that can eat his weight in gold I would suggest you pre-party at McDonalds to keep the bill down. read more

We were a party of 5 adults and 1 -5 year old. the Sashimi was fresh. 2 of us got our dinners in about 10 minutes and then it took the other 2 about 10 minutes later. my 5 year old ordered Chicken Teriyaki, it's been about 25 minutes, the remaining 2 have not even received their food!!! This place is located in the shopping center behind the new Mo's in Almaden (former Sonoma Chicken Coop). They remodeled the old Teppanyaki and Sushi place that used to be there. They did a good job in the remodel and the sushi bar is nice. The seating area has good elbow room. The food just doesn't have enough umami and the by the dishes that we had, it seemed to me that there is just a lack of experience and understanding of what makes a great dish. The chicken and salmon we had were overcooked and tough. The positive was the teriyaki sauce was pretty good. The sushi was on the lower scale of average because the ingredients used in the rolls were not balanced - not enough eel or too much imitation crab. The wasabi was not powerful which is a signal to me about the possible inexperience I mentioned above. It's very easy to serve up good wasabi. The miso soup was decent but the salad was too watered down - need to serve the salad crispy. The overall portions are good and the sashimi cuts were good size. The fish they use for sashimi was good. Server was attentive but mixed up the order. This is a new place so hopefully it will get better with time. The dinner prices for average about $18 and run into the high $20's for sashimi dinner plates. read more

Didn't get to taste the food. Wasn't even acknowledged when we walked in. When I finally flagged someone down to put my name on the list, I was told they don't have a list. I was handed a piece of mail and asked to write my name down on the back on the envelope. I put my name down and after waiting about 15 minutes, I noticed tables of unhappy and impatient patrons that either still haven't ordered their food or were waiting for their food. Me and my wife occasionally coming here for dinner. Place in general is good and fresh . Stuff is nice and friendly. Service is also good but could be a little faster. My favorite here is Salmon sashimi and orange blossom roll . The also serve a good sake. read more

I don't know where all these people ate at. I just got back from there with a couple of my friends and I have to say it was the worst experience I have had. The food was not that good(only ate a bite of mine and so did my friend) the fried calamari was worse than if I made it from scratch myself. My daughter cant eat sushi so she got a pizza from next door so she could still eat with us, but the owner said she couldnt eat it inside. After some arguing they eventually allowed it only that one time. I would recommend sushi from Safeway instead. read more

I liked this place because on Valentine's Day I showed up with my family and we were seated at a reasonable time frame. However I show up today on Saturday evening and I am told I have a 15 minute wait. Another party of 10 shows up and they get seated in the back area while I wait with my family. The waiter informs me and I nod that is fine - he lets me know a table will be opening up and I am next. Another party of 4 shows up and I hear the party stating that she has a reservation and wants one of the booths. This booth happens to be the table I am to be seated at. I ask the same waiter and he says yes they are next. Upset I leave with my family. Saturday nights can be very tough but expectation setting is key and they failed miserably. The staff was super rude. No greeting. We weren't escorted to our table, the hostess/waitress just rushed to a table in the back and slammed the menus down. Luckily, it was a loud enough slam we were able to find the table. Awkward vibe, the staff wouldn't even acknowledge us being in the building. The waitress was slow to bring out waters. She took our orders shortly after that. After about 15 minutes we hadn't seen any of our food or appetizers. My sister and my niece went to use the bathroom. The floor was soaked. She assumed it was freshly cleaned. Then discovered the toilet seat was soaked. She cleaned up the water off of the seat so my niece could use the toilet. She flushed the toilet and the water spiraled out of control like a goddamn tsunami and soaked the both of them. After that we walked out. Upon exiting, we notified two of the staff. They looked at us like we had giant dicks on our foreheads and didn't say anything. Fortunately, we had put in our names in Mo's prior to walking to Bamboo Shit. We decided to try Bamboo Stick because the wait was long for Mo's. Went to Mo's, had a great experience there with friendly staff. I will never even consider eating at this place again. Went in after work yesterday, literally some of the worst dinner service I have ever experienced. Sat myself at the sushi bar, it took 5 to 10 minutes after I sat down to get acknowledged and even longer to get a menu to order food from a staff member. One girl started to serve me, and after she took my order she made me feel invisible as she wouldn't even look at me for the rest of the night. I ordered a beer from her and ended up asking for it from the sushi chef because she forgot about me. Then a 3rd person brought me my check, when I had to ask for it 20 minutes after I was finished eating. Maybe I smelled bad? (Doubtful) Maybe she ignored me because I was wearing a Giants jersey and she was a Dodgers fan? Blows my mind because I was extremely nice, even when I was treated like I was a ghost. I'm pretty insulted because every time I have come here I tip at least 30% even when the service has been sub par in the past. This time it was atrocious and I tipped 10%, plus they lost me as a customer and I will not be going back. I would have given nothing. However, I work in the service industry so I couldn't find it in my heart to do that. I'm giving 2 stars because the sushi is good. Should hire some servers that care about customer service though. I know how it works, i'm a blip on the radar screen because I am only one person. I will gladly take my $75 to $100 I spend every time I come here elsewhere though. read more

Even though most of our food tasted good (except for the Saba Shioyaki) I unfortunately got very sick from this past Friday's Saba Shioyaki and Salmon Teriyaki dinner. From late Friday night to Sunday my stomach was in serious pain and couldn't hold anything in. The service is quite slow even when the restaurant is not full. I had to get up and pull someone to get an extra filling of tea and the bill. It seems like our waitress disappeared in the back after we were served and never checked up on us. Also, be sure to check your order for takeouts as we received the wrong order twice on different occasions. read more

New owners, completely remodeled, food was delicious, the service was fast and the staff was attentive and very friendly. A little on the pricey side, but well worth the visit. I will be back. I've been wanting to try this place since it switched ownership and names. The last place was very pricy like Ninja but their sushi was very good. Nina is very expensive but the sushi was just ok. For these prices I expect a lot more. My son ordered the chicken karage and it was awful. Needless to say this was a one time only trip to Ninja. read more

I haven't been in a worst sushi resto in San Jose this bad, the rice was so hard, the chicken from the bento box looks like Microwave, before I ordered, I asked the server how many slices of the assorted sashime combo, I was told 16pcs, it came back with 9 tiny slices, not a good place to celebrate fathers day with my family. I've been here a few times and it is a few dollars more per item than regular sushi places. The first time wasn't busy and I got seated right away, though after placing my order I received everything out of order and wasn't asked if I was doing ok. I also had to ask for the check. The other times were busy and I had no one acknowledge me when I first came in. I was seated at the bar and had to ask one of the sushi chefs to flag a server down so I could place an order because I waited for a while and no one came around. After that the service was fine, however, the nigiri I ordered was not fresh tasting. Way overpriced for the service, quality and ambiance. I would rather drive out of my neighborhood for better quality at cheaper prices. read more

i used to come here all the time when it was showgi, i miss them! this was my first time coming to the new place, and I thought the food was great (though frickin expensive!!) but they need to sort out their service. it's probably due to being newly opened, but it was absurdly disorganized. things like figuring out they had left us waiting for a table when there had been one sitting empty most of the time, bringing us the wrong orders, bringing my dad's bento box way before my sushi came out, never bringing the water we asked for until the fourth time asking. i'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that though, i know new places need time to iron out the kinks. and i don't really mind screw-ups like that as long as the staff are nice, and everyone was! i had the chirashi sushi, the fish quality and variety was excellent and the presentation beautiful. i also appreciated that the rice amount given in the bowl was manageable, as many sushi places give you way too much and I hate wasting food. my dad had the beef teriyaki bento box, the teriyaki was nothing special but he loved the tempura that came with it. we shared a baked scallop roll (because when we go out for dinner together our eyes are always bigger than our stomachs ahaha) and it was so good! the only problem was that it was falling apart from how much sauce it had on it, which is an issue for the chopstick-impaired like my father. tl;dr: the food was great and would be worth the insane prices if the service was perfect, but it wasn't. i agree with other reviewers that the ambiance is lacking, though the decor is nice. i'll give them another shot, but if the service hasn't improved or the prices haven't gone down, i won't come back. read more

Ninja is easily my favorite restaurant in Almaden Valley. They are family owned and since opening for business, they have continued to improve the interior of the restaurant, offer greater variety on their menu and do it all with fantastic service. The fish selection here is like none I've experienced at any other sushi restaurant. The wide range of clams, variety of salmon cuts, the fresh and amazing ama ebe (raw sweet shrimp), weekly signature specialties and the immaculate preparation of all dishes makes Ninja a must-visit spot. They offer a large selection of sake and beers on tap. The atmosphere is fun, the staff friendly and warm, and they even draw a crowd mid-week for dinner. They recently expanded their lunchtime offerings, which I hope to try very soon. I'm so glad Ninja has moved to the neighborhood. They provide a clearly superior choice over other local spots like Almaden Sushi or Sushi Okawa that lack in both service and seafood variety. read more

I've been to this place a quite a few times now and I'm deciding to write this review based on Vi's review. It's too funny to past up. If you read their menu they do list what ingredients come with it and you shouldn't be too surprise if you don't read the ingredients before ordering. When you ask for extra toppings, that pretty much means extra charge. Why does the waitress get one star because the restaurant was missing a few items? You should be happy she even apologize for the inconvenience which is out of her control considering she is just an employee,not the owner of the establishment. Just because another restaurant gives edamame as a complimentary doesn't mean all restaurant will do that. You have a solid point about it being warm inside the shop, but other than that the rest of your review is a personal issue of cheap and anal. No one should have to apologize to you with that kind of spoiled attitude. I would rate them with this : 4 star for their food 5 star for the staff 3 star for being a bit warm inside 4.5 star for being clean 3.5 star for the pricing Thank you, for forcing me to write my first review! read more
