I stopped by on a recent evening at about 6 pm. I went to the bar for a cocktail and nibbles. The bar was dirty. I waited 10 minutes for somebody to acknowledge me; this never happened. The menu is labeled incorrectly as some of the rolls listed contain crab. However, after receiving them, it was huge strips of imitation crab. YUCK! The salmon in the roll also wasn't fresh, as it tasted very fishy. Fresh salmon never tastes fishy. I also ordered the tuna sashimi, which I order frequently from other places. As soon as I received it I could tell it wasn't fresh. It was brown in color, which means it was heavily oxidized. Also, the sushi "chef" also didn't know how to cut it, as it contained heavy amounts of the blood line which made it crunchy. I took one bite, and it was completely inedible. The manager was extremely nice, apologetic, and handled the situation well. However, he had the sushi chef come over. This was a huge mistake as it was obvious he didn't know what he was talking about. He advised that big eye tuna is always brown in color, and that it's impossible to cut sashimi from this fish without getting the bloodlines. The last disappointment was the kobe beef burger I ordered. It was only $15, so I should have known better. It for sure was not kobe, it was overcooked, and it wasn't even seasoned. The inside of the restaurant is nice, but it's a shame they don't have a good sushi chef or fresh fish. I definitely wouldn't eat there again. read more

4 stars for the food. 2 stars is for the loud bartender... I'm not sure what I was supposed to expect. It was my first time eating there (normally order to-go). The waiter was very courteous and attentive. I was looking forward to a nice little dinner with my boyfriend, but instead, all I could hear was the bartender chatting it up with a group of guys at the bar. I know it was a Friday night, but come on. There is no need for your obnoxious conversation to overpower all other conversations in the room. Perhaps the background music was turned down too low or something? I don't know. Irregardless, it was extremely distracting and ruined what could have been a romantic dinner. If I wanted a loud scene, I would have gone to a bar. I must say, though, that the food and presentation were both great and drinks were good. I came here with a large group from work for the hibachi experience. Everyone left happy, well fed and nicely lubricated from the wine and beer selection. The hibachi "show" was on par with just about every hibachi restaurant that I've ever been to. The food was delicious. The servers were attentive and helpful. read more

Bambu is my favorite place to go for sushi in the Danbury area. I started going to there years ago, but since they have changed ownership they have improved tremendously. I typically order the Sushi / Sashimi combo, or the India & Nauroto rolls. Those two rolls are a nice mix because the India role is a delicious roll with spicy mayo, fried banana, and the Nauroto roll is a refreshing cucumber roll with salmon and tuna on the inside. It creates a nice balance. The menu is creative, the flavors are delicious, the sushi chefs and managers are extremely friendly and it is always a very pleasant experience to go and sit at the sushi bar. I also always appreciate the complementary Kani salad with mango which the sushi chef gives the customers at the sushi bar while they are waiting for their meal; That is a nice touch. I enjoy Bambu about once a week and love bringing friends and business associates with me. read more

I love this place. It's our go to place for sushi and hibachi. I love it so much I can't believe I haven't reviewed it yet. The food is always fresh. They always have interesting rolls to try as a special. If you like crab and jalapeño try the Hawaiian roll. It's not on the menu but awesome. Great selection of sushi and sashimi. Highly recommend the spicy edamame. The hibachi guys are always entertaining. And I like that this place doesn't get loud and crazy like Ichiro. Our favorite though is to eat at the bar. Best bartenders in town are Nate and Bobbi. They are so friendly, can manage a crazy bar while still talking to everyone like they've been friends forever. And it's always a fun scene. This restaurant I guess changed owners at some point but kept the name because most of their food portions got way smaller, yet stayed the same price. Bad service from waitstaff (which I absolutely hate admitting), it took them an unusually long time for them to greet us and prepare our food. The only redeemable quality I feel was the taste of their foods.This is the only place I've been to where the shrimp tempura sushi roll is cold instead of warm. read more

I can't comment on the food - because after waiting over an hour and a half for our "reserved" table we had to leave and go elsewhere. We were lied to about the status of our reservation a few times and were offered to be seated at tables on opposite sides of the room. I was in the neighborhood and since I had frequented the previously owned establishment "Kabuki" for ...oh I'd say...it had to be about 20 years...I'd try the new incarnation.."Bambu". I walked up to the front desk and no one was there..so I walked into the restaurant and someone came out of the back to greet me. Since there was a good ballgame on I thought I'd sit in the bar. The place was nicely remodeled with separate sections for the bar seating...table seating and the Hibachi. The first thing I noticed was a piercing mixture of laughter and screaming (almost painful) and euro disco music in the bar ....so I decided to sit behind a pole in the standard dining area to dampan the volumne. It worked to a degree. I asked the waitress for some sparkling water to which she replied "They didn't have any". I thought she might check...and sure enough they did. I then ordered some sushi...some Mai Fun without Curry or Peppers and then asked " if the ribs were like Spare Ribs ( Pork and Full size)". She had to check again and replied they were. So I ordered them. After about 25 minutes (we were 1 of 2 sets of costumers in the whole non-bar area) she delivered to us Short Ribs (not Spare Ribs) Sashimi (not sushi) and Mai Fun with a full array of Curry and Peppers. When I voiced my displeasure ...she replied "That's what I ordered"...but that's obviously not what she brought. I had a few words with the Manager who made the entire interaction seem like "run of the mill". I summation the food was not worth the price...the service level or the noise from the bar. This one ranks with one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. read more

First we were seated near the door where the temperature was equal to outside, mind you it is 17 degrees. Second, subsequently we were moved to a sticky table (and still cold). Third when asked for prominent and popular Japanese whiskey, staff was unaware it existed. Fourth the music at this slightly "hip" restaurant was strictly horrible and watered down EDM, I considered suicide at least 4 separate times. Then my food came, very tasty to bad the ambiance was stuck in 1990's douche bag hip.... I had a very good time laughing and pondering all the truly great places I could be eating at the same time realizing this is not one of them. read more

Hair, not a little, a lot of hair in my food, and I'm no baby. There were several pieces of hair in my food. I get it, English is hard, but my take out order was really wrong as well. I didn't bother to complain to the restaurant, I will not ever go back. The two bites of my chicken hibachi was not bad. Not better than Ichiro or even Koo, but not bad, it was the hair and the poor service that turned me off. The sushi was very normal sushi, it's nothing overly special. The restaurants atmosphere seemed relaxed and organized, I'm just not a fan of incorrect orders or hair in my food. Not a place I will return to or recommend over Ichiro or even Koo. read more

Beautiful decor, however..... The sushi was so bad here that it makes me wonder if I went on an off day & it is not normally that bad. It was the first time in my life that I could not finish eating my sushi & I sat there contemplating whether I should ask them to give me something else. But since I was the only customer there at lunchtime & the Shumai was oversteamed & tasteless I decided to cut my losses & skedaddle. Off I went to Subway. I drive by there occasionally on my way to other places for lunch & the parking lot is usually empty or 2-3 cars which leads me to think it was not an isolated incident. This was kind of a mixed experience - thus the mixed review. First off, Bambu is plagued like the other restaurants in the area with terrible parking. The lot is awkward and crooked, and I am sure on a Sat night, you would have trouble. The decor for the most part is great - it has an upscale, trendy feel. Everything is attractive and modern. The weird part was that they did all of this decorating, but left the broken, ratty bathroom stalls and apparently just slopped some black paint on them. Like the budget ran out. The food was very tasty, and some of the best sushi I have had in the area - and we would go back just for that. However, the edamame ($6) we were served were so over-boiled, they were complete mush. The sushi rolls ranged in price from $5 or $6 up to $14, which is a little high. They were good sized though. The beer prices (Kirin light, $3.50) were pretty good though. Ask for extra wasabi if you like it, we got a drop only. They also use the dyed-pink ginger and have no brown rice. My biggest complaint (and this could be totally isolated) was the dirty plates. I had to send back three rounds of plates, and it was embarrassing that they kept bringing them out dirty - at that point you really examine the plate before bringing it to me. Maybe the dishwasher was broken? It appeared as though they had been through the dishwasher, but that the rice starch was just not washing off. But it was very obvious, i was not being picky. I think it is new in the area and we would probably go back for sushi. read more

We had the worst experience at Bambu! After we were seated and waited approximately 50 minutes at the table, I had to flag down the waitress to take our order! After she submitted the order, she came back to our table and told us (and the other family at our hibachi table as well) that "we would have to relocate because they were expecting a big party!" We all refused to move, because we were settled in our seats. How dare they ask that of a customer? The service was extremely slow. We all received our bill and they added on a charge for white rice! This was not indicated on the menu. In addition, they have never done this before. Their competitors never charge extra for white rice. Bamboo is certainly taking advantage of customers. Wonderful hibatchi dinner thanks to Chef Jason. He made the meal "healthy" as in butter free and what a difference! It was the best hibatchi I have ever had in Fairfield County. My husband is not a hibatchi guy but he said he would return anytime as long as Jason was the hibatchi chef. read more

This place is terrible - food is overpriced and tastes average. The waitress doesn't seem to care and dimmed the light further while we were reading the menus- so it would be more difficult for us to read the extremely small prints. In the end, the same waitress, charged us 18% gratuity fee for tips. Though it was on Christmas but totally didn't expect that especially when the service was POOR.
