A little small shop in Palisades Park, street parking. They serve home-cooked style food, according to a friend who lives in the neighborhood, and so we popped in. Gejang (raw blue crab) was excellent flavor for the marinade, a small order had 6-7 pieces and a couple shells for $22. It's not as juicy as the Korean version of the crab, but still well-prepared and pre-cut hard shell areas allowed the soy sauce to enter and enjoy the marination. They included plastic gloves to help eat it, thankfully. O-Sam Gopdol was small pieces of pork and squid a little overcooked with a slightly spicy sauce and over rice in a stone pot - the rice cooked nicely, but the dish lacked the richness of flavor I've had elsewhere. Overall all the ban chan (multiple types) was more bland, so I suppose that's attractive to some as maybe that's more like homemade? Almost all native Korean speakers in the restaurant, though, so it felt pretty authentic. Service was good, the hot and ice barley tea was excellent. read more

Came here for lunch and it was good! My friends got the marinated crabs which they thought was delicious. It definitely is on the pricey end though. There were limited street parking available nearby, but I got lucky and was able to snag a spot right after the meters ended. We got the combo which comes with 2 crabs and the stew. For a first experience they offer a combo of 4 crabs, doenjang jigae and rice for $40. The crabs were a little smaller than I wanted with little roe but still plenty for two of us! After having very heavy meals in NJ, we wanted something light and more homey so we decided to check out Bap Do Duk, which apparently is known to have the best soy marinated raw crabs in NJ. We went on an early dinner time and we were able to be sat right away. The place is pretty small, so it may be busier. It feels like your typical old-school Korean restaurant; nice older Korean ladies serving you and a menu of Korean traditional dishes. We opted to get the soy marinated crab doduk bapsang, which also comes with soybean paste stew. We also got an order of the jju-sam which is marinated small octopus and pork belly. Our food came out relatively quickly, and I was so delighted to see raw marinated crabs. It's really hard to find places anywhere in America that do these dishes well, but they looked so plump and flavorful. We dug in right away and I was pleased that it tasted absolutely phenomenal! It truly is a rice thief because these things are just to die for when paired with rice. I can't underhype the jju-sam either because there was plenty of meat and seafood in the dish and it was marinated/cooked to perfection. Bap Do Guk is a small restaurant in Pal Park run by ajummas; many of the visiting customers are local Koreans and the overall vibe is much more authentic. We came for soy marinated crabs. There are not many places that you can get them around here. I like crabs, but I dislike the process of breaking the shell apart and digging the meat out. With these crabs, you don't have to do any of that! You just suck the meat out (and maybe chew a little on the soft shell). Between us four, we ordered #7 Marinated Crabs (4) and Soybean Paste Stew), #10 Grilled Dried Pollack, #15 Stir-Fried Pork, and #16 Stir-Fried Small Octopus. The crabs were delicious. It had adequate meat that didn't have me complaining but probably not enough roe on the shell, which made my sister frown a bit. She really loves crab roe. The soy marinade was not too salty, so you can still enjoy it with a spoonful of warm, white rice. I liked the pollack dish since I am a fan of fish. For the lazy, picky eaters (oftentimes me), there were bones, but they were thin and small enough to just swallow. Had marinated crab with 5 of us. The next day four of us had diarrhea all day. So we called to let them know, and they did not care and just came up with excuses that they couldn't do anything. According to them, this never happened but they did have cases where people ordered for takeout, and the customer had to throw them out because they figured it went bad. The saltiness was quite a lot though so it was a perfect pair with rice. Service here was incredibly quick and efficient. Although we had to put our name and phone number down for a 40-50 minute wait, we were served food within 10 minutes of placing our order.
