Came here to kick off our pub crawl with roughly 30 total people. The wait staff was a little overwhelmed but I don't believe they had much notice at all. We only ate a couple apps, brew pretzels and buffalo cauliflower, and both were delicious. As for the beers, the wheat=average, the ocktoberfest = terrbile because it was basically just an IPA but the Bourbon Meyer Stout = FANTASTIC!! Always a mandatory stop when in Columbus. This place has "been there" for years...like way before other breweries popped up. The beer wall always has something good available. But the food is great! I typically order their grilled wings. But, this time I got the bratwurst sandwich and it did not disappoint. First, I asked if it was a "white" brat. Because sometimes brats and metts get mixed up and I wanted to be sure that I was not getting the "red", spicy, and salty mett. The kitchen could not answer. So, I rolled the dice and ordered it anyhow. It comes with one side and I picked broccoli because the discription said something about a sub bun or something to that effect. I did not want a ton of carbs with the bread and a side of fries. The sandwich comes with a cabbage slaw on top which was delish! It was purple cabbage that must have been soaked in beer because it had a beer flavor to it. It was so good. On top of that was a squirt of a dijon style mustard. It was subtle and did not over power the sandwich. The bratwurst is sliced longways and grilled. It was white in color. So, I was pretty happy knowing I got what I wanted. My husband got a burger and fries. I picked off about 5 of his fries and they were crispy on the outside but soft and potatoey on the inside. I was glad I got the broccoli instead of the fries because it offset the big sub bun. They add a garnish of home made pickles. They look like bread and butter pickles but they are something else. Maybe a garlic pickle? They are not sweet but they are not overwhelmingly dill flavored. I scarfed down the sandwich; even eating the entire bun which I never do. Wish we had a Barley's in my neck of the woods in Southern Ohio. Until then, Barley's will continue to be my favorite Columbus stop. read more

Fall at Barley's is the BEST, one of my favorite beers in the City is on tap...Bourbon Meyer Buckeye Stout! Barley's always has a great selection of beer, something for everyone, good seasonal options too! Lots of seating at the bar and plenty of tables. It has a classic local bar feel that I love. The perfect place before a Blue Jackets game. Food amazing, Portions huge, the roasted brussel sprouts were best we have ever had. Great brewery and craft beers. Service was astounding. I have my burger cooked medium and have sautéed mushrooms, sautéed onions, tomatoes, lettuce, pepper jack cheese, and mayo added to it and I LOVE it. I have ordered it several times and it is always so yummy! The burgers always seem so fresh and tasty! * The pierogis are my fave! I believe they are just filled with potato and cheese. They are sautéed with onions and served with a side of sour cream. SO good! - Brewcadia is right upstairs! We usually like to head up after we have eaten! What's better than enjoying a nice meal and drinks and then topping it off with more drinks and old video games?! Ummm, yes please! (Kids are not allowed). - They actually have a kids menu! Stopped in for dinner while attending a conference across the street. Tried the pretzel sticks, which were excellent. The beer cheese was very good as well as the pale ale mustard. I had the shrimp and grits, it was excellent! The grits were very good and the shrimp were spicy, almost too spicy at times. Luckily I had a good beer, the Cerveza de Mercado. Stopped in during a Friday night out with friends after we had a couple drinks upstairs at Novak's. It was nice that it was a Friday night and we could easily sit down right away with a group of 6 people. Although, the restaurant was fairly empty and dead for a Friday night. Not the most lively atmosphere. Service was slow despite the lack of customers. Food was OK, nothing to write home about. Was driving through town and decided to come back after not being here for over 20 years. My husband and I got to know each other here when we went to grad school eons ago. Remembered the food was great. We were not disappointed. It was busy. Service was fast and very attentive. I had the turkey nut burger with broccoli. My husband had the veggie burger on the Greek salad. Hottest wings for my nephew and Mediterranean pasta for my son. Hummus appetizer. Everything was fresh and yummy. I first went to Barley's about 10 years ago and am so glad we went back! The space looks like it expanded and added more seating or maybe it was just so packed the first time that we sat in a small corner. Either way, there's plenty of booth and bar space. We dropping in after the first Crew game at the new stadium and it was perfect. My husband and I had the Brew burger and it did not disappoint. The patties were so juicy and cooked to perfection and the fries were hot and crispy. I remembered loving their garlic aioli sauce and had it with the fries. So so so good! After a long hot day, we mostly had water to drink but my husband did grab an ale to pair with the burger. The beer selection isn't the best but the food does not disappoint. read more

This place is a staple of Columbus. Barley's was one of the first micro-breweries to open up in Columbus and it's still cranking out wonderfully crafted Ales. It is a small local company and there is something wonderful about that. They offer a little variety of everything and are NOT a brewery that focuses on IPA's. Rather, they have middle of the road options for those that are tired of the diluted pool of breweries offering mostly bandwagon IPA's. They have offerings such as, the Bloodthirst Wheat or the Pilsner, that are light and refreshing. Aiming to please a wider variety of people with these selections. The Bourbon Meyer Buckeye Stout is a delicious, robust and satisfying dessert to end the night. They also just added the Scottish Ale on cask for those with a more traditional nostalgic taste. During their weekly happy hour specials, pints of the typically lower ABV beers are only $4!! I haven't seen none-domestic prices that low in years! So it makes for a cheap post-work watering hole or for looking for a drink while in town for a convention. The decor is vintage with a beautiful mirror framed with elegantly crafted wood. It is an older building and you can see that left some history in tact by the elegant, classic ceilings. Make sure to look up and so get off your phones and take it in. The wings here are the BEST IN TOWN! They grill their wings instead of frying them and that *Char* that comes from a well seasoned grill hits the mark. The sweeter sauces caramelize because they sauce them and put them back on the grill! Delicious! They have a cult following for Columbus locals that know the secret of Barley's. Their menu has recently been upgraded and everything that I have tried outside of the wings has come out with some extra flare. The staff has changed quit a bit since the pandemic, but a few staple faces remain behind the bar. The servers are friendly and personable, and a few are fairly seasoned with a year or two at Barley's under their belts. They are aiming to please and provide the best possible experience, especially when the restaurant isn't getting slammed by a big convention. Have eaten here twice in the last week. A great place for a preconcert or pregame meal. We like the Sauerkraut Balls, a little more kraut tang would be great. The grilled wings are delicious. The peroigies are enough to share as we learned. Everyone liked the onion rings. Did a flight of beers. I like the Russian Imperial Stout best. The peanut butter stout was a hit, too sweet for me personally. I drank all of on my flight. Meal, beers, and tip out for less than $50 a couple. Great deal. Service both nights was great. Maybe one more visit before the end of hockey season. read more

It's kind of a shame that there are so many other dining choices in Columbus as this place gets lost in the shuffle. I had lunch with Mark K. there recently and had their excellent Grilled Salmon Sandwich which came on a Ciabatta roll with a spinach artichoke spread. It came with a side so I choose the mixed green salad. My take on the price vs what you get? That $12.49 I paid was money well spent. I would get it again in a heartbeat. Just for reference: I've also had their Cheeseburger, Reuben, Truffle Mac and Cheese, Fish and Chips and Pretzel Sticks - it's all been good. I've never had a bad meal or a bad experience here. *They are currently putting in a barcade upstairs, should be done soon but for the moment, there's a lot of noise and construction to deal with. I can't believe I haven't already reviewed this. I've been coming since they opened, though not very often. Every couple of years, it's a handy fallback or someone wants to try it out. Maybe the last time was pre-Yelp. Mike G. and I went at lunchtime on a weekday, and they were almost empty. A Dead song was playing as we walked in, which was a good sign, though construction noises partly obscured that and our conversation- they are in the middle of adding more room upstairs, so that might be an issue for the next few months. Service was excellent, start to finish. I was on the way to work so just split a beer with Mike, but the scotch ale was tasty and I remember all of their beers as pretty good. I started with the sauerkraut balls, of course. Bigger than I remember, stuffed with cabbage and sausage, and almost a meal on their own. To keep up the health food theme I had sausage and pierogi next. An assortment of very good sausages, surrounded by great pierogi- pillows of dough and potato, sauteed with onions. Filling and tasty. I'm sure I'll be back; it's just one of those places that slips off my radar when there are so many interesting restaurants nearby. But they have kept their standards high and it is worth a visit anytime. read more

My friend and I had a concert here in Columbus and wanted to get some bar food beforehand. The wings were phenomenal and I eat a lot of wings! I liked how they weren't swimming in the sauce but still have the great taste! I tried the pierogis and they were also delicious. My friend tried the sweet potato fries like she does everywhere we go.. she said they were good and the dipping sauce that comes with it complemented them well. This place became a staple for many years. Great atmosphere, great short north neighborhood and good people. it's a good gathering place for old friends and to watch sports. I love that all the times I have gone it hasn't been too crowded. I also enjoy the atmosphere of the place. The interiors feel like an episode of Cheers with the type of old school look it has. The food are steps up from regular bar food - they have great menu options and the beer selection is great too. I like either sitting at the booths or the bar myself. Not really a table person. I've had their burgers, bean soup or dip i can't remember but it was all good eats lol It's a solid neighborhood gathering place between downtown and the short north. Whenever friends come to town we usually go here or if I'm needing to recommend a place, this place usually comes up as a go-to spot to check out. Was at a convention and stopped in on a Sunday evening. Ordered a double Hendricks and tonic. When it came to the table I couldn't taste the gin. Knife was dirty, took ten minutes to get a replacement. Salad was good, but they took the knife and fork. Fish and chips came out, ate the fries but waited on the fish. Finally got the utensils and the fish was cold and tasted off. Complained so they took the fish and chips off the bill, but overall will never go back again. Shame because the ten or so times before everything was great. Nice response. Never written a poor review before regardless to how poor a service, just paid the bill. And if you asked the help, I didn't ask to remove any charge to the bill, insisted to pay it. Nice business acumen you have there. Excellent tourist location- pretty much next to the Hilton and across the street from the Convention Center. It's deceptively big inside -the front door is on North High STreet, and the back door is a block away, near the North Market, so its like a long narrow rectangle inside. I sat at the bar and ordered a six beer sampler (5 ounces each) for $13. I went with the Barley's Pilsner, Barley's Scottish Ale, Barley's Blood Thirst Wheat, Alexander's Russian Imperial Stout, Barley's Infinity Grand Cru, and a one year bourbon barrel fermented dark. I liked the lighter beers- the Pilsner and Scottish Ale were mild and very drinkable. The Blood Orange Wheat was very good, and was my favorite. I didn't care as much for the other three, but I guess that's just a reflection of my personal taste. I also had a go at a Happy Hour special of six Saurkraut Balls for $6. They are described as "Spicy sausage, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, onions, garlic, and herbs". They tasted like a big hush puppy with sauerkraut inside. If there was any sausage in there, it must have been a few molecules, because I didn't notice anything. The atmosphere at the bar was great, lots of friendly folks on both sides of the bar. Tough choice on 3 or 4 stars here. I'm giving the points on my meal, which was the veggie burger with cauliflower and the house salad. The salad was good, nothing special but very fresh, the red wine dressing only so so. The veggie burger I was so excited about and the sole reason we went here, it is hard to find a housemade veggie burger and I refuse to pay $10+ for a Morningstar or Gardenburger I can make at home. It tasted bland and mushy and was on the small side, so didn't fulfill my need for a fat awesome veggie burger. The cauliflower was barely steamed, tasted raw and cold with a bunch of raw onions. Strange combo and along with the raw onions on my salad and on the burger, I was in for an evening of horrible breath... My son had the lonestar burger which was awesome, great bacon, good meat, a shame he only gave me 2 bites... My husband had the behemoth barley burger and the sam I am and enjoyed both. The chili, also not so great and the fries pretty boring as well. In all I can recommend it for tuesdays half price burger night and stick with the burgers, they are great, the rest really didn't blow me away. Good service & good food! We love Barley's. The sauerkraut balls are delicious, so filling that we ordered small salads for dinner. The small cobb was packed full of warm grilled chicken, bacon, blue cheese, hard boiled eggs- all the good stuff. The apple walnut salad included candied walnuts that were dessert-like while the red onion and apples were an excellent combination. The four stars instead of five were for the aftertaste of the Brutopia (not appealing). The Tour de Hops IPA was great. We also were seated at the booth by the wait staff station which means lots of clanking & chlorine smells. Don't let that deter you, again, the service and food is excellent! read more
