One of the worst dining experiences i have had in a long time, first we were celebrating my friends birthday and were sat at an awful table that was wobbly and next to the server station and nestled right next to the drink handoff station. As a server myself this is a horrible place to sit someone nonetheless someone who specified they came in for a special occasion. Our server was not rude but she would disappear and it took us a long time to get our drinks even though we were watching them sit there for a while as we were sitting two feet away. She would not come back or do her rounds to our table or the table next to us as they were visibly annoyed with her service as well. Since I was right next to where servers grab their silverware rollups and was not given one through the entire service i could just reach around me to grab my own. The food was actually so disappointing, our tacos came out wrong, and even then they were not good at all. The rice was crunchy, tasted old and cold, coctel de elote was soupy when its supposed to be creamy. I was appalled by service and food overall for the price and by looks popularity of this restaurant. I would never recommend, take your money elsewhere. read more

Overall we were quite unimpressed on our first trip to Barrio Queen. We were seated immediately but the service was slow to bring chips & salsa. They forgot to bring napkins and silverware. We waited so long to give our orders that eventually the manager noticed we had been sitting so long that he came and took our order himself. I got some shrimp thing and my wife got an Arizona burrito. The stripy was garlicky and decent, but not spectacular. The burrito was good for a couple bites but quickly was noted to be overwhelmingly drenched in sour cream sauce and diced onion. She barely ate maybe half of it. The chips and salsa were decent, make sure you ask for the hotter salsa if you like that. It had some good heat. Experience wasn't terrible but I doubt I'd go back. read more

Went and tried their Thursday special this week on the fajitas. They were delicious!! $19.99, steak and chicken combo. Great ambiance and service. Went back the following week with my honey and she loved them too. Added extra meat and split them. Will definitely be back! We waited about 15 minutes for a table for 2 on a Sunday night. Our server was pleasant and the guacamole was good but I'm not sure I'd go back because: 1) Service was spotty. We didn't get napkins at all even after getting food and had to repeatedly ask several servers/food runners. 2) Chips were delicious but the ones we got first with the free salsa were so tiny. We ordered guacamole and it was tasty but the tiny chips were clearly from the bottom of the barrel. We asked for new chips and eventually got them - what a size difference. Agua Fresca was good too. I wish we didn't have to listen to the staff of the lolo's restaurant next door's team meeting. It seemed to involve a lot of yelling at the staff, as if we needed another reason to not go there. We have visited this Barrio Queen location in Gilbert more than once. We didn't return for nearly a year after poor service. We came on 4/30/25. The service was incredibly poor. The server and manager were less than desirable. Our meal was served to us on top of our menus that were never removed on the table. Needless to say, I attempted to contact Barrio Queen through their site. I received an automated response 3 times that someone would contact me within 48 hours. It has been almost 3 weeks and no one from this establishment has taken any interest in our experience. It is beyond poor service and customer satisfaction at this point. read more

We have came here 1 other time before and it did take us awhile to come back because we aren't fully impressed. HOWEVER on national burrito day we came back, we order from the "premium" said and the regular tacos. We also ordered 2 kids meals, and two drinks. The michelada wasn't all there, they gave me zero ice, it wasn't flavorful at all. I think the best thing on our table was the beans! Those beans are FIRE!! Took my son out for his birthday dinner and chose our favorite restaurant, Barrio Queen. Sadly the salsa was watery and bland, Barrio chicken had zero sauce. Asked for Queen Sauce and it was watered down with no flavor. Pollo Deshebarado was just bland chicken and no flavor and to top that all off neither the Pollo Deshe nor the Barrio Pollo had cheese which is common at other stores. Also no 20 oz beer glasses available so we had to pay for 16oz drinks, well played screwing me out of additional cost. With a meal for four cost at over $100 I would expect excellent food all around. However that was not the case and will never return to this store again. This is a huge fail for a company that typically provides excellent food and service however the Gilbert store needs to take a hard look at recipes and staff otherwise I will not be the only customer that is lost to better food options. Conversely the Queen Creek store is excellent and the food and service is consistently good regardless. read more

Oh my where to start, I would not recommend if you want native Mexican food, our experience was food was flavorless just salt and pepper is what I got with maybe a hint of onion or garlic on my end. you don't have to much herbs and spices accompanying the sides even the salsa was just grilled tomatoes with chili and onion. If you are use to bland food this might just be your spot. Unfortunately this was not the best as expected for my family. Love the decor the painting but I'll give that a start. I really enjoyed this place and I was quite surprised by how good the food was. I was expecting a typical middle of the road Mexican restaurant with the basic fair we all have come to expect. But it turns out I was wrong in the best way. To be surprised not only by the quality of the food but also the level of service. I had a great meal and the cost is very reasonable for most budgets. The margaritas are really excellent and have great flavor. I had the Azteca burrito which was totally awesome. It is made with beef short rids which melt in your mouth and have great flavor. Went on a Saturday and unknowingly it was restaurant week. Thought I was getting a good deal with their little 4 course deal but everything about it was bad besides the guac. My margarita flight was so watered down by the time it got to me, the 3 tacos I got were all cold and the service was so slow and bad that I never even received my churro for dessert. We just wanted to get out of there. The server told us the manager approved 20% off our bill as a table of 5 adults and one child, which was something but not enough for an absolutely horrendous experience. I was embarrassed for them, especially it being during restaurant week. They were so unprepared and we felt robbed. I have not had such horrible service in a very long time! My party of five arrived at approximately 6pm on a Tuesday night. We put in an order for drinks and kids' meals right away. The kids' food and drinks arrived and we put in our food order. My five year old granddaughter complained that the ketchup was "spicy." We inquired and found out that the waiter had accidentally served her spicy ketchup. We laughed it off and got regular ketchup. Unfortunately, the evening went down hill from there. We sat, unattended, for thirty to forty minutes. Our drinks were not refilled and no one asked how we were doing. A man who we thought could have been a bus-boy or the manager walked by us numerous times. We finally flagged him down after our waiter was nowhere to be seen. We asked for drink refills and mentioned it had been some time since our food had been ordered. He said he would check on our food. He didn't visit our table again. After another fifteen minutes, I approached the man, confirmed he was the manager, told him people seated after us were getting their food, and their service was abysmal. He said he would speak with our waiter. (Sigh) Approximately five minutes later, our food finally arrived and my pork on my plate was mildly warm but everything else on the plate was cold! The other plates were also lukewarm to cold, as well. There were open tables, it wasn't a particularly busy night. There just was no reason for the horrible service and cold food. 1.5 hours!!! 1.5 hours to wait for cold food. WE WILL NEVER VISIT THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN. BE WARNED. read more

I was really disappointed in this place tonight. We've had happy hour drinks as well as chips and queso here several times. We loved it. Tonight, we decided to order in after I worked at the hospital until 8pm. There was no option to add chips and salsa to the order on Uber Eats at all so we chose an entree that included salsa since we had chips at home. I ordered the grilled quesadillas which were nearly empty and no salsa. Pictures included. My husband got the Arizona Burrito with a side of chorizo beans and it is amazing. In town visiting friends and stopped in for lunch and Margaritas. Staff was very pleasant and friendly. We sat outside on the patio with the heater on since it was a bit chilly. They offer a great variety of food options. There is a little something for everyone. Chips and salsa are served when you are seated. The salsa was amazing made with roasted tomatoes. We started with house margaritas and appetizers. We choose the Coctel de elote and ceviche de Cameron. Both were fantastic. For lunch we decided on a variety of tacos. I ordered the Protein Bowl which was decent, but I feel like I could have gotten a better bowl at Chipotle for a cheaper price. My friend got the Azteca burrito, and I was so jealous. We decided to order dinner online a few weeks ago. We had family over and they placed their order about a minute after ours. Upon arrival they couldn't find our families order and then they found it and said it wasn't ready. It seemed that one slipped thru their orders and we had to wait for them to make it. They also forgot to give us a drink we ordered. I ordered their power bowl and it was really gross. Hard to eat. The flavors just didn't match and the rice was hard. Definitely wouldn't recommend that bowl. The fries we got were decent. My parents got their tacos and loved them. If I came back I would have to try the tacos. Good walking avenues mean servers and customers maintain a good "ass to table" distance as they walk by. I do like bare ceilings that show the rafters. But the art work...... it looks like someone tried to explain Mexican culture to someone who's never been to Mexico and they recreated it from memory. Menu: American Mexican. Don't be fooled. Food: Some of the most inoffensive Mexican food I've ever tasted. This is Caucasian Mexican food from the mountains of Cacuses. This is Slavic Mexican food, vikings from Iceland would enjoy it. This is Mexican food for millenials with delicate palates and 10k Instagram followers. It looks nice on the plate, but the flavor is so Caucasian, you might as well go to Chick-fil-A for some spice. This is Mexican food you take photos of, an Instagram model; pretty to look at but hollow and lacking personality. Service: SLOW. Had to ask for refills constantly. This is my first visit, flying solo. Passed by a few times I decided to finally check it out. I was greeted by the manager immediately. Before seating me he informed me they were short staffed and even the bar tender was serving tables. I appreciate his honesty. I decided to sit at the bar and was given a menu, chips and salsa; faster than my head could turn. I ordered it the Barrio Paloma. It came in a cute, short pottery cup. Great flavor. A tad too much ice for my liking. The chips are yummy love the thickness a great match with their salsa. It's been about 20 minutes and I still haven't received my food... No surprise, since I was warned ahead of time. I've pretty much eaten the whole basket of chips and salsa. Nobody has asked if I'd like to order another drink I finally got my Arizona burrito 30 minutes in.. Nice presentation I was offered more chips and salsa and happily excepted the offer. The burrito was good size, not overly big; which can be the case. The crema drizzle was a nice touch. It was a good burrito. I can't point fingers but I was a little disappointed when I didn't see any rice or beans on the side of my burrito. Looking at the menu after the fact I noticed he did not say beans or rice included however, it would've been nice to be reminded that I needed to order them. The green chile sauce was good what it lacked in spice was overly tart/lemony. I definitely will go back. I like the bar and patio vibe.
