Have been waiting for months for this place to open and I must say, it was worth the wait! From the outside, the restaurant looks small (QC is known for smaller locations than in Gilbert/Chandler/Mesa), but this place is a great size...they have a main dining area, a huge inside patio, a long bar and large outside patio area. We arrived around 11am (Saturday) and did not have to wait for a table...they were about 50% full. While we had to wait a long time for our food, our waitress (on the receipt said her name was Alyssa) did a good job of keeping our drinks refilled and chips and salsa coming and was super nice. We also received a $6 discount for the long wait (without even asking). I am not going to scrutinize the long wait too much as they just opened less than a week ago and are still working things out. As for the food, I wont make a blanket statement and say this is the best Mexican food I ever had, because 99% of the Mexican food I've had is from the north. I will say this is some of the best southern Mexican food I've ever had. I went for the Azteca enchiladas and the wife went for the California enchiladas. According to the waitress and menu, the Azteca is one of the most flavorful dishes on the menu. Lots of complex flavors, a mix of sweet and spicy and earthy and creamy mixed very well together...not a single complaint with either dish. I can't forget to mention that for one of the sides, they have friggin chipotle mashed potatoes! OMGOSH, they are sooooo flavorful! As for the drinks, the Dr. Pepper had an average surup-to-carbination ratio, but are a bit pricy at $3.75...make sure you are going to take more than just a sip at that price. I highly recommend trying the El Camino. It's the drink of the month and made with two types of reposado (Avion and Delirio Mezcal). It also has lemon juice, Azunia agave & velvet falermum, topped with a Barrio spiced rim and grilled lemon! A few observations: 1. We didn't do the "guaca time" cart where a server comes to your table with a push cart and makes you fresh guacamole...seemed a bit gimmicky. 2. The wife absolutely loved the music playing from overhead...so much so, that she had me Shazam like a half a dozen songs. 3. The hallway leading to the restrooms had some vibrant Frida art work on the wall...almost like an homage to the surrealist painter. 4. The chairs are super heavy duty and made of solid metal. While some have arms on the side, they are very wide and relatively comfortable. 5. If you can't figure out the theme of the restaurant, just Google "dia de los muertos" (aka Day of the Dead) and it will all make sense. In conclusion, this seems like a great place to do a happy hour with friends and co-workers. Experience is a bit on the upscale side (something much needed in the QC), with a casual, laid back vibe. With all the unique dish and drink options, I am already looking for our next visit! read more

We've been here in the past and had OK service, but today's was exceptional. Sebastian took care of us. He greeted us with a smile, had a really good, upbeat personality. He knew the menu like the back of his hand made recommendations and was very thorough in his care for our table. We had the margarita flight. We also had the pineapple house. Margarita, both were delicious. We also tried the pork chili some thing that was on the happy hour menu that Sebastian recommended, and it was amazing and then shared a Baja burrito along with some fresh guac. After another 20 minutes she says they are out and walked away. We finally flag her down to order and the food was truly awful. Cold and shrimp tacos had one piece of shrimp each. Carne so tough. I tried this place today for the first time and decided to do Togo food. The food quality was great! My only recommendation is to not plate Mismatch tacos togo I got the quessa Birria and nopales taco and both were boxed together and all the consome of the Birria got into my nopales taco, both tortillas were different texture so it was a soggy mess. The elote was great but too much liquid was inside of my container so maybe the elote wasn't drained enough The churros were delicious and the ice cream was great too! When I went into the building I stood by the hostess / togo stand for 5 minutes and I saw all of the employee's in black shirts just stare at me and walk away they made eye contact but no one approached me just to acknowledge me and say "someone will be right with you" and then the host was a gentlemen in a white shirt and he comes up and asks me if I've been helped with but the answer was a direct No As I had been standing there for 5 minutes. The bartenders and servers saw me, I saw employees at the expo area making eye contact with me too. Just zero acknowledgment of someone standing to be helped with. Maybe the business owner can help guide their team with fixing this issue because it's not attentive service. read more

I normally like Barrio Queen, but I went the other day and it was pretty disappointing. The service was incredibly slow (and we went on a week day), to the point where I had ordered a second drink before entrees came out and got it after we were done eating, and didn't really want it anymore. I ordered three tacos and the tortillas were completely uncooked; I can't recall if that's just the standard, but I think even a small amount of oil/heat/sear would make a big difference. I also only had two shrimp on my grilled shrimp taco. I have always been a fan of and vouched for Barrio Queen, but this experience seemed to align with what I've heard from some other people before. read more

Went to dinner on a Tuesday night around 6 pm the restraunt was so dead and we somehow waited 25 minutes on top of our 15 minute wait. We had a big party but the restaurant was so dead. I am a former server so I understand why wait times stretch and whatever. The host was rude and seemed she had an attitude problem , no smile. Bartender took forever to get our drinks. Takes forever to be seated almost anytime you visit. The last time we went, my husband and I had already been waiting for 40 minutes. The couple who checked in before us decided to sit at the bar and ended up getting their food there. When their name got called, another couple had just walked in, and they gave their table to that couple. The hostess knew we were next and looked uncomfortable with the situation but still sat them before us. I just found that unfair. Took about 50 minutes to finally get seated. Servers are hit and miss. I've had very attentive servers and others that vanish after giving your order to you. The food is subpar overall. Their salsa is very unique and not my favorite. That's a personal preference, but it has a really strong aftertaste. My husband and I both noticed that our stomachs feel upset every time we eat here. I think it's because of the oily food and chips. The environment is louder, and it can be hard to hear others in your party. Not very good, and we've tried it close to 10 times since there aren't many Mexican food places in QC. read more

I'm from cali here visiting AZ due to unfortunate circumstances. It was our last day and we decided to stop there for lunch it's was the WORST decision EVER ! We had a big party again due to unfortunate circumstances and we only had one waitress attending our whole table. It took her an hour and a half to receive drinks and upon receiving the drinks the waitress spilled a cup of soda right off the tray onto my 3 year old nephew. Food was horrible! Tortillas weren't even cooked all the way ! By the time our food got to our table it was ALL cold ! They totally forgot about my daughters order she was the last to eat and her fry's were not cooked all the way felt frozen still. Overall the service and was horrible would never recommend this place to anyone visiting Queen Creek Arizona. I'm visiting from out of town and wanted to try something that I can't get at home. So glad I went here! My friend and I were seated in about 5 minutes, they were busy but the service was very fast. Their tortilla chips were something from the heavens! Fresh, warm perfect amount of salt and the salsa was great too. I ordered the Marisco enchiladas. They were something very off the wall for me but I figured why not! Honestly they were so good I want to go back again before I leave and get more. My friend got the 3 tacos plate. The nice thing with their tacos is you don't have to get 3 of the same you can pick any 3 you want and they had tons to choose from. Came in with the family for dinner on Labor Day and enjoyed our meal. I started with a chingonarita after seeing a friend order it last time and always wanting to try it. For those who don't know it's a margarita with a coronita flipped upside down that slowly pours into the margarita. I really enjoy cocktails with beer in them and this was no different. I will say BQ has probably the best chips and salsa- and even my son who is super picky gobbles them up. I ordered the quesabirrias as it seems like my Instagram is flooded with them and I've never tried them but they look so good and wow was I, (and Instagram) right! They were so delicious and the consomé was awesome. To me it's almost like a Mexican French dip- but better. My wife's avocado salad with carne asada is the reason for one star being removed. At $13 for a very basic salad (which in no way would fill you up without adding a protein) it was extremely overpriced and underwhelming. The added $9 carne asada she enjoyed but she still remarked that it was not a lot of food and the presentation was not good at all (a lot of white space on the plate it came on probably made it look a lot smaller than it was- or it was just a small portion). Our kids had typical kids meals which they enjoyed- it's pretty easy to please them though! All in all I'm sure we'll be back as it's close, the drinks are good, and the Quesabirrias are awesome- but I'd avoid the avocado salad if you're hungry. read more

Delicious lunch spot. Looks like a newer place and the decor is unique. Stopped in and had a skinny margarita which was very good. Indulged in a few shrimp and fish tacos grilled, with a side of rice. The tacos look small but are surprisingly filling. The wait staff and the manager on that day were super friendly and accommodating, it's a great place to stop after shopping in the area. My dad, and sisters came in for lunch today- monday afternoon. We were seated quickly, and got the ball rolling with margaritas,waters,and chips and salsa. The regular salsa is super mild, like no heat at all, so we requested the habanero salsa. That was way better, but not very spicy either. The chips came out super fresh, hot, yumm!! All the margaritas were tasty. My ginger one was delicious!! We all pretty much got tacos. Dad got a torta. The tacos all looked great, and tasted delicious!! We all are foodies, and can be unhappy if food isnt up to par, but nobody complained, and all plates were cleared!! We very much had a great experience, and enjoyed our first timevisit to Barrio!! We had reservations and the place was pretty empty so I was very optimistic however I was wrong. We preferred tacos. 3 a piece. The server who took our order never wondered why the place was filling up and people who got there after us were already eating and done and we still didn't have order. Then unfortunately the food runner came to table after about an hour and a half and all but one of us had the wrong order! She seemed irritated which understandable and said she would talk to our server. After about ten minutes she came to check still no tacos and the. Said she would have them up immediately. Our friends left a cash tip how to would not have left her the generous amount mostly because of the wait and the fact that she was running around but didn't think to see where the heck our food was. This wasn't my first time to BQ, but it was my first time at this location. The place looks really nice and there is plenty of parking. The lot is a little goofy, but that seems to be a result of some shopping center aesthetic: straight lines bad. I had the cochinita pibil ... to go. It was good, although not as good as eating there. Like many of us, I've had to reset my expectations during the pandemic and look forward to getting back to normal. (If I find something these days that is good, I can imagine it'll only be better "not to go"...) My sandwich was flavorful even though the roll's toasting and crispness of the included fries suffered a bit of the expected "to go tax"... a highlight was the spicy ketchup included for dipping them. The savory pork with the crunchy onions made a nice combination. You will pay more to eat here than at many Mexican restaurants, but the ingredients, execution and variety are what you're getting. My wife and son had bean and cheese burritos, which they said were a little disappointing since the pictures showed the tortillas grilled to a bit of crispness, but theirs were obviously not and the cheese wasn't as melted as it could have been. read more

I ordered the Pescado Asado tacos, when I received my plate, it looked as though they ran out of fish and I literally had a marble shaped piece of fish on each taco that was hard/stale and cold. I was highly offended just looking at it. The service was not as good as in the past either. Instead of clearing the table before receiving the entrees, they decided to pack them on top of each other! The ambiance was very loud and uncomfortable to the point that we were yelling at each other instead of having great conversations and feedback.
