We ate here for dinner last night for the first time after MANY trips to our favorite resort. We have always heard such mixed reviews so we were always hesitant. I feel like we found our new date night spot! The ambiance was really comfy and inviting. We loved sitting at the bar because we felt we got the greatest service from the bartender Jake. He really picked out great recommendations based on what we told him we were looking for. His drinks were also a highlight, but his humor and friendliness were the best parts. Thanks, Jake! The hamachi carpaccio was one of the best I've had. It was so fresh and brightly flavored, we wish we ordered two. The rainbow roll and triple delight rolls were great. My wife loved the triple delight because it was creamy. I preferred the rainbow roll because I like simple. We also indulged in crispy rice which I always love. We were staying in the resort and made a rezi for Friday night. They have limited seating inside and most people sit outside. Even though they have some outdoor heating, it is pretty chilly so make sure you either dress appropriately or request inside! Our server, Mike, was super cool! The food came out super fast, too. Good for us because we were hungry and we don't love lingering in a restaurant for too long. In addition to menu items, we each had a sushi roll and they were awesome!!! PARKING - Valet, Self Parking ATMOSPHERE - Beautifully located at Terranea. You can not beat the view. I always feel like I'm on vacation when I am on the property. We sat on the patio and the weather was nice, sunny and a perfect breeze to keep us nice and cool. SERVICE - Excellent. Our server made a celebratory meal special. The staff was patient with the children in our party. She also helped with picking out dishes that everyone would enjoy. FOOD - We totally scored. It happened to be happy hour when we arrived. So we started with some rolls which were half off. We had the spicy tuna tataki and dragon roll. Highly recommend it and actually craving it as I am writing the review. Other items we had were oysters on the half shell, shakin beef, garlic noodles, calamari and some other rolls. Oh and the whole snapper in black bean sauce. Went to Bashi we dined outside and had a perfect view, easy to get a reservation. Living in Southern California we are very spoiled with sushi so ordering sushi here we were slightly underwhelmed. We ordered a couple of other items like the lobster kimchi fried rice which was very tasty, huge portion and the calamari salad which was also good. After leaving another restaurant located within the Terranea compound (and which I already yelped about), we were walking by this cute little place and decided to step inside. From the outside, it has a cute patio, Asian style theme with welcoming large glass doors that lead inside from the patio, as well as a front main entrance. We had already eaten so we headed to the bar. Very, very interesting decor. I would describe it, but you really have to see it. The bar stools and the fabric on the bar table seating is .... Well, it's glittery. I know, I know.... sounds like a bad 60s acid trip, but it is done so well, I actually wouldn't mind having those bar stools in my house. It wasn't very busy at this point. Maybe two other people sitting in the bar area, though a few diners were out on the patio. The bartender is a really cute guy with these thick frame black glasses and an unassuming, helpful demeanor. We are beer dorks, so he accommodated us with information on their kind of limited beer selection. They are trying to clearly stick with the Japanese theme, so some Japanese gems such as Hitachino Nest... But also a few other locals. But he did a great job of pulling our heads out of the keg, and ultimately convinced us to try their unique Asian inspired martinis. Good job, Sir!!! I rarely RARELY drink anything but beer! You have no idea how much sales talent you have! And his martini making talent cannot go without word. We each had two, and none of them were the same. Needless to say we were back the following week. This time we tried the food. YUMMY!!!!! YUMMY!!!!! I can't remember EXACTLY what we had, but one was Ahi tuna and the other was a steak dish. Both were Tapas style, and both were absolutely amazingly delicious!!! Asian inspired, unique and tasty. Again, we tried completely different martinis guided by the bartender. Actually very tasty Had the garlic noodles, lobster vermicelli, green beans, lettuce wraps and duck salad. All actually tasty. The noodle dishes were a good portion.sushi was not so good. Pricey since they recommend you get several dishes and share them. Each dish is like $10-25 each. Our lunch server,LG, was great. Nice and attentive. Had dinner there as well and server, David, was not good. Unresponsive. Didn't bring the items requested and rarely was around. Would choose those over the Catalina place next door. read more

Thanks to Julio for the great service and walking us through the delicious menu on Christmas Eve! The kimchi seafood soup, garlic noodles and sticky rice was all very good! The outdoor table was perfect since we had a heat lamp and the weather wasn't too cool. It's great to visit Terranea because you can walk around their beautiful property, watch a sunset over the ocean and get a sense for being on vacation while enjoying your food at Bashi. The hubby and I went here for a romantic date night and the food and drinks were delicious! We ordered their Shaking Beef and it was delicious! Cooked to perfection and the flavor was just right. We also had the steamed chicken dumplings, which were delicious! The garlic noodles (maybe shanghai noodles? was the name) - very very good. For dessert, we had the ginger creme brulee which was probably the best creme brulee either of us has had. The service was also excellent - I believe our server/waitress (what's PC these days?) was Ashley. She did a great job at checking up on us and knowing about the menu. This place is decent. It's one of those places I'll go to, since choices are limited, and I know which items to stay clear of. Their shrimp tempura roll was pretty good. Grilled small green peppers were good, but amount served was enough for 10 people. Calamari was not bad. Sauce served was the same sirachi/mayo mixture..not bad. Tater tots were obnoxious. We have been here a few times and this is the only restaurant in Terranea where I feel like I got my money's worth . The setting is lovely but so is the whole resort . They have am eclectic choice of Asian inspired menu along with sushi Their drinks are great to start with . We had the whole fish which was a visuals and gastronomic delight . Shishito peppers are always a hit . The kimchi soup was a miss with me but my family loved it . My kids love the bento boxes and our whole family had a terrific meal . A great eatery inside Terranea on the same resort level as the Catalina Kitchen. Great bar and sushi with fun bartenders. It never fails for the multiple times my friend and I go catch up that we meet people local and from distant locations enjoying our Rancho Palos Verdes secret spot. Sush! Don't tell anyone that post dinner you can buy a cigar at the upstairs bar and enjoy music from the patio at a shared gas fire pit meeting more people. Fun! read more

Staying at the resort so we decided to try this place for lunch. Garlic noodles were great. My son ordered the kids bowl with beef. The beef was so tender. The whole fish was good too. The skin was crispy with just the right seasoning. It came with noodles on the bottom and pickled cabbages, which I wish they gave more of. The place is over priced, which you would expect from a resort, and not much selection. I thought this was a Japanese restaurant, but I'm not sure. We are here at the Terranea Resort to celebrate birthdays for parents. The resort is very family friendly and this restaurant is right by the pools. We were seated in an outdoor location, the scenery is beautiful and it's very relaxing. The menu is concise with Chinese and Japanese inspired items, they call PanAsian. I am not sure what Anthony Bourdain thought of PanAsian but after going to this place, I realize that I hate it. It's imitation Asian and not in a good way. The master sauces were pretty much the same soy based sauce with garlic. The Kung Pao was not spicy at all and the sauce was the same as the Garlic Noodle sauce. The fried rice was a bit over salted. The mussels were bad quality. The sushi was barely sushi grade fish. I would say if you had to eat here, stick with the cooked items. The shrimp was a highlight, not over cooked and fresh. Otherwise, everything else was overpriced and underwhelming. The sushi is not worth getting. Four pieces of sashimi was steak thick and tasteless. Everything at the resort is overpriced and I can't recommend this place. read more

Sat under patio heaters on the beautiful poolside patio of Bashi for a delightful dinner last night. We started with a selection of nigiri, sashimi and a Bashi roll. The freshness and delicious taste of the salmon was especially notable. We then moved on to two small plate appetizers; lemongrass chicken lettuce rolls and charred shishito peppers. Both of these dishes were excellent. Bold flavours yet subtle undertones of complexity. The portions were generous and perfect to share family style. For our main course we choose two of the feature dishes of Bashi; sizzling shaking beef and bacon lobster fried rice. I loved the caramelized onions and crispy potatoes that lay underneath the beef. The four of us successfully finished everything however we did not have room for desert. After dinner we made our way to the hotel lobby bar and listened to wonderful live jazz while enjoying an after dinner cocktail. Great way to spend an evening. read more

Delicious!! The food was as good as other reviews promised. Loved the Hostesses who were so welcoming and gentle as they told us we had an hour wait and then found us a seat in ten minutes. I can't even believe it.. We went there for dinner last night and our sushi got To us before our drinks and edamame did.. we sat there waiting for our server forever. We ended up not even getting our sake and tell we were completely done with dinner.. Then apparently the sushi chef runs the show comma after waiting forever for our drinks and for the servers to catch up we couldn't even order more food.. I'm probably being generous here but wife and I do not get out sans baby and so this place was great. Price: 35usd per person with dine LA. I looked at the other prices and although not cheap reasonable for what u are getting. I would say 2 people with 1 appetizer figure on 75usd out the door. Appetizers I think were less then 20 and entrees like 25. Do not quote me on that as I was doing dine LA. Now the happy hour is every day from 3-5. Rolls will cost about 7 after discount and they were big. Definitely a good deal. Food: Mind u that I am vietnamese and fusion is my favorite cuisine genre. Shaking beef: excellent flavor with a hint of fish sauce and lemon grass. One of the best I have had. They marinated I think with some baking soda so soft, but I dont always like that texture. It was fine here as they did not overdue. Calamari: also very well done. Not overbattered and not oily. Lotus salad. Ok but I like the lechon in it. Quite fatty so my wife is not a fan. Udon: I thought it was ok but Magolian BQ type of flavor. Definitely better done. My wife liked this one but not like amazing Picked vegetables as a side was very well done and simple. Baby bok-choi was an ok side. Dessert: cheese cake nothing to brag about. Green tea float. Apparently it was good as it was gone before I had a chance to taste it. I was on the phone for an emergency and next thing I know it was gone. Wife said she was afraid it would melt. I call BS on that. Overall portions were good. On the dine LA ticket, I think my whole village could have eaten there. We had a full meal to take home. It fed my wife for liunch and then both of us for dinner. Remeber we tiny asian folks. Ambiance: located in a resort it is beautiful. CAnt beleive I am in LA. Feels like Pismo beach/big sur/Half moon bay with the beauitufl scenery and seclusion. Parking is free. I think you could make a day of it with beach and then happy hour for cheap. Surprisingly, i think this would be ok for kids. NOt so fancy that Baby Linh cant run around and scream just a bit. This review is actually giving 3.5 stars. Went for a Valentine's date with the GF here. It had a good atmosphere. The host suggested some great beers. The GF ordered a couple of the signature drinks which were good, but took a while to get to us. We ordered the ahi tartare. It was the best thing we had. It was absolutely delicious. For entrees we ordered the lobster udon which was pretty good. We also order the stir fried garlic noodles with tofu. This was just meh... In hindsight we shouldn't have order two noodle dishes. For desert, we ordered the green tea cheese cake, again just meh... The food was reasonably priced. They get you on the drinks. The signature drinks my GF ordered were $13 and $15. Both of my beers were $12. After dinner, there was a nice lounge on the main floor of the resort where you can get drinks and listen to live music. Also be prepared to pay $10 for parking. I come to Terranea quite a bit to dine and I usually end up at Nelson's or Catalina Kitchen but upon hearing that there was a new Asian restaurant opening up I had to try it out. The menu is quite small and so are the portions but they do let you know that before ordering so not a problem at all for me. My friends and I had the chicken dumplings, ribs, wonton soup, and the garlic noodles with chicken. All of the dishes were tasty except for the wonton soup. For $8 I would like to have more than 2 wontons in the bowl and the broth did taste a little strange compared to other restaurants. That being said, it was not horrible. I also had a signature drink that had vodka, pear sake, etc in it and it was quite good. The service was friendly and it was at a good pace. read more

While staying at Terranea, we ate several meals at Bashi and all were excellent. The Brussels sprouts with mini slices of chorizo are fantastic, I will be craving the dish from now on. We also loved the chicken lettuce wraps (some of the best I've had), and the udon noodles, calamari and snow crab and shrimp fried rice were quite good as well. My only slight quibble was with the seafood curry soup - I found it way too sweet. They told us tonight they are putting new items on the menu tomorrow - we will probably go back for yet another meal! read more

Nothing special about this Asian fusion place. We had the child's Benito box, garlic chicken noodles and salad. Needless to say. ...the edamame was not that good, the miso soup...more like chicken broth. The kimchi apple slices....not quite sure where they pulled that from. Maybe the sushi rolls would have been better. The bar part and the outdoor seating do deserve a 4 though I will give you that. I will say the lady that was dressed maybe like the bartender or manager needs a little training on customer service. We were waiting for awhile with another couple. They finally got seated and we were waiting there and waiting and then she comes out and walks right by without even saying a word like someone will be with you shortly etc. The lady that finally did seat us was extremely nice though.
