These guys really came through for me. A last minute family dinner caught me off guard; I called BBQ4Life to see if they could sell me a whole tri tip for the event. We wanted to love it. The staff was super friendly. There's duct tape on the seats and the food just wasn't good. The 3 meat platter was cold and tasteless and the pulled pork tacos didn't taste good either. The vegan coleslaw is actually pretty good. My boyfriend and I have driven by twice place since it's been opened and never stopped in until today. I ordered a baby back rib sandwich with a side salad and my boyfriend had a Monte Cristo Mac and cheese bbq tri-tip sandwich with a side of Mac and cheese. When we walked in we weren't sure what to expect. Their menu was nice, interesting take on the vegan choices. We were greeted by the owner, we ate in, and then our server was a young girl (early teens), she seemed to know what she was doing but was very awkward. Now I'm really not a fan of BBQ at all, unless I make it myself or I'm eating at Goodwood. I was really disappointed by the portion sizes, but was satisfied with the meat quality (I am the pickiest meat eater). Their Mac & Cheese alone is worth going there for, but I'm not a fan of their entree's or choices. Their food is INCREDIBLY rich and made me sick for 3 days with only consuming half my meal (which isn't very big to begin with). Their salad looked like they had pulled it out of a $.99 bag of iceberg lettuce and put it in a bowl. I know it's a side salad but I'd like more to it! Overall, I'm not a fan. I didn't try their Vegan selection but I would contemplate going back. But between the OK service and the way I felt for three days after, that would be a hard bargain. read more

LOVE this place! My husband and I both agreed this is the best BBQ place we've visited yet. Myself being a vegetarian, it's tough finding BBQ where we are from. This place has a huge selection of vegetarian/vegan BBQ options as well as many daily specials. I did their vegan BBQ grilled cheese with a side of Vegan potato salad. My husband did one of their BBQ sandwiches with the mac n cheese. The sauces, quality and taste is out of this world. Staff is very helpful and attentive. I've eaten take-out from here several times now and the meat is really good. I always have to ask for more sauce and the bottom bun on the sandwich is usually soaked through with grease by the time I eat it (drawback of takeout) but it's still good. My only complaints are the prices and the selection. I understand that quality smoked meat costs more but $9+ for a normal sized sandwich and a small side is a little high in my opinion. Half of their menu is Vegan which really seems strange and out of place for a BBQ joint but they definitely have the niche cornered and there aren't many Vegan friendly restaurants that I know of in Boise. The other half is mostly the same 3-5 styles of BBQ with different fixings on sandwiches. I've tried several of their sides and the potato salad is my favorite but they all seem somewhat bland to me. Overall not a bad place but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. We were just passing through Boise and got to our motel late. BBQ4LIFE was a mile & a half down the street. The idea that me, the vegan, and my husband, the meat lover, could both have delicious food in one place was intriguing! I had the smoked tempeh sandwich, he had the half and half pulled pork and tri tip sandwich. It was all delicious; he loved his side of slaw and I loved my vegan beans, too. Late lunch, mid week: the service was excellent. The food was disappointing. 1. Ice tea had a musty taste, never experienced that before; 2. Potato salad was mostly potato. Very large chunks of baked potato left relatively small surface area for other salad fixings. 3 Tri-Tip sandwich was nicely smoked and good flavor. Bread was smallish role and 'doughey'. It might have been toasted to finish the baking, but the bread actually stuck to my teeth. The serving of finely chopped beef was meager. For the price paid, I walked away feeling that I'd been had somehow. So, check the tea, somethings wrong. Change the preparation of the potato salad... Smaller pieces of potato have larger surface area relative to mass of potato and favors are enhanced. Change the sandwich roles... they don't make it. The vegan food was just weird. I am a vegan and i can make better food at home than the vegan food here at this restaurant. The vegan mac tasted like chili for some reason. Very disappointed in our food tonight. The bread on our sandwich was very doughy (should have been toasted in my opinion). Portions were smaller than used to be. Hardly any meat compared to our friend's sandwich. Husband and I shared a sandwich and 3 sides and went away hungry. Vegan coleslaw used to be crispy and fresh but was limp and brownish.
