Anyway, this place is delicious and as a fan of good Cajun food...I can vouch. The shrimp boulette balls are delicious and great start to your Cajun feast! They have the classics like po boys, boudin balls, and etouffee. But unlike other regular places, they have great dishes like the Anti-oxidant Castle (a veggies dish). The service is good and the atmosphere casual and sometime entertaining towards 1 or 2 in the morning! The next best thing? DAQUIRIS! I didn't expect this at all BUT BB's has some of the best crawfish I've ever had! A couple of friends and I walked here last weekend for quick bite and decided to get a couple of pounds each....one of the best decisions ever (lol). Excellent atmosphere and the food was equally as good. Spice level on boiled seafood was perfect and the drinks had just the right amount of alcohol. Our server was very attentive and even explained how to eat crawfish because it was our first time. There was about a 5-10 minute wait on a Saturday evening so my group was very surprised. Went to check out this place with my son since we are the only ones in the family who would eat Po Boys. I had heard through word of mouth that it was pretty good. Went for lunch during the middle of the week and was surprised by how small it was inside. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. There were so many choices on the menu and so many types of Po Boys. Some of the Po Boys sounded great, although I wonder how authentic they were to the cajun Po Boys I have had in the past. (never heard of a fajitas Po Boy before) I decided to go for the traditional Fried Shrimp Po Boy. Since I rarely eat fried foods, I thought I would go all out on this. The portions are large, so I ordered the half sandwich and it was more than enough. There was a generous amount of fried shrimp and they were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Just right. There was also some lettuce, pickles, tomato and some kind of sauce. The best part about the sandwich was the bread. It was very good. Crusty and firm on the outside, but soft and easy to bite down on at the same time. Just about right for a loaded Po Boy. I did end up adding some Tabasco sauce to spice it up a bit, since I really couldn't taste the sauce on the sandwich. My son had the roast beef Po Boy and it looked delicious. I tried a piece of the roast beef and it was very tender and juicy. We split an order of fries which is very large and it could easily feed two or three people. The fries are very thin and border almost on the shoe string style of fry. I would definitely go back again, and hey, maybe next time I will be adventurous and try one of the non-traditional Po Boys. read more

I regularly (about once a month) eat at the BBs on White Oak and the one on Richmond and there is usually nothing to complain about. Tonight was brutal. We sat outside and it took the waiter about 15 minutes to get to us. When he did he took our order then brought 2 waters for the 3 of us at the table. After another 10 minutes he came back and told us that the computer was on the fritz and that our orders would come out in time but since the computer crashed he wouldn't know where to send our food out to. So we reiterated our orders, Bubba Shrimp Salad, Pollo Bullets, and Etouffe, along with a third water. After another 15 minutes we got our food. The salad was mediocre but they didn't skimp on the shrimp. It was pretty much a lot of iceberg lettuce, a little tomato, about 10 small shrimp, and four lemon wedges. The Etouffe was delicious and the Pollo Bullets were good as usual. I don't know if the computer went out or if tonight was an uncharacteristically busy Monday night, but the service was just really lacking. Honestly, I really like BBs and would be willing to give the server and whoever else the benefit of the doubt for everything I've written so far, but it really bothered me when the server happened to cough or sneeze into his hand multiple times between waiting on different patrons without any kind of washing or sanitizing I could see. read more

The food here is pretty good, especially for somewhere that's opened 24/7 Order the tex-cajun fries! HUGE portion of fries with cheese and beef on top. Love the "Wake & Bake" burger. Bacon & a fried egg in a burger? Yes, please!. Their crawfish is better than most cajun style crawfish that I've tried in the area. It's on the spicy side so beware. First of all, I'm from Southeast Texas which is about 30 minutes from Louisiana. From my neck of the woods, we're more Cajun than Texan, so take that into consideration. The place was really cute and our server was nice. I ordered the shrimp po-boy which wasn't too bad. I did like that the bread wasn't too crunchy because that is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to po-boys. My friend ordered the gumbo. The server even brought us out a sampler before we ordered. It wasn't realllllllly gumbo. It was more of an enchilada soup -a tasty enchilada soup- than a gumbo. I was pretty pumped they served Abita beer. Their seasonal selection is If you grew up eating cajun food and know multiple people who make their own roux on a regular basis, you may be a little disappointed. However, the chances of you finding something better in this area are extremely slim. There is a place in League City called Little Daddy's Gumbo bar which has the best gumbo that I've had in this area so far. read more

Got there around 930 pm and were seated right away. They were busy for a Tuesday because of St. Patrick's Day but were as speedy as they could be. Ordered 2 lbs or crawfish. Must say they were a very good size and just the right spice to burn your mouth, they were surprisingly very good! Definitely will recommend to everyone and will be coming back!! I've been heading to BB's for a few years now, since perhaps mid-2011. I have seen a number of menu changes and staff shifts, but I am comfortable with the current state of the restaurant. The service will always be hit and miss in such a small, intimate, busy setting, but if the food is good, it is much more bearable. I have sen my share of surly, unattentive, bored, rude, obnoxious, nervous, and altogether out-of-it employees since i've come to this location That being said, there has been one waiter, Colin, who I have actively sought out whenever I see he is on shift when I arrive. While some of BB's staff may be more concerned with chatting and disappearing from responsibilities, I have recognized that Colin is always open to ensuring my experience, and always doing so with a smile and "yes sir" to match. I have reccommended Colin (physical atributes: beard and slightly bigger) to all of my friends, and as long as he is working-- i am confident that I will be happy with my experience. In terms of menu items: the Bullet for the king po-boy is my favorite on the menu-- just needs a little extra ranch and i' good to go. Maybe treat yourself to a wake-and-bake burger if you're in the mood for something different-- Colin actually reccommended that one recently. Parking sucks though, plain and simple. I've only tried two dishes at this place. One was a bowl of red beans and rice topped off with spicy cajun sausage, cheese, onions, and some other stuff. For $7 it was enough to feed two people and it was really tasty. It so good that I haven't ordered anything else as a main course. I also once split their "Anti-Oxidant Castle" po boy with a friend because we felt unhealthy eating a mound of beans and sausage with no veggies. The idea of a vegetarian po boy is almost an oxymoron, but I think they pulled it off pretty well. BBs is definitely worth checking out if you're int he Montrose area and you feel like some casual cajun food. read more

I'll probably update this review later when I've had more of a taste of their menu... To begin, my family and I live very close by, and had never been here, so of course we're going to stop in! We went fairly late, around 10pm, (I had gotten into town very late) so it wasn't very busy at all. We got the Tex-Cajun Virgin for an appetizer. The beef and gravy with the nacho cheese (it seemed like nacho cheese) was delicious -- and crazy filling!! It's not an appetizer to split between just two. Requires AT LEAST three or you'll have trouble lol I had the Rockland Redfish. The fish itself was nicely blackened, but the ettoufee that tops it was very fishy and not enough spices for my taste. The jambalaya on the side was just ok. My brother got the Chalmette Macaroni. He was very reluctant to share! I thought it was delicious. Tasted like jalapeno poppers! My mom just had some red beans and rice and some crawfish ettoufee. The red beans and rice were a disappointment. Very bland. I've had better at Popeye's =/ My sister had the Bedtime in the Bayou po-boy, dressed. Tied for the best with my brother's dish! It was delicious. Perfect bread. Lots of shrimp. My sister is a huge fan now. Their famous daquiri's were also a must-have with us but unfortunately, we were out of luck because the machine wasn't on. My memory is fuzzy, and I was going to say it was off because it was broken, but I just read another review where the machine was shut off at 7pm so now I'm not sure why it was off... I know it's no NOLA, but hey when you live in New England good cajun food is pretty hard to come by. Yelp app in hand, dinner time came around and the search for cajun food nearby began, which lead us to BBs... and we were not disapointed! A cute little spot in a residential area, the outside was dressed up to look like the French Quarter. End up getting half a shrimp po boy and gumbo and it was so delicious!! "Cajun food, YUM!" - My stomach, again. Thankfully I was dining with a fellow eater who decided we should order several things on the menu and share. Perfect dining companion! Let's start with the shrimp Po'Boy. The bread was stale and crunchy, just like it should be, the shrimp was deliciously battered and crunchy outside but moist and tender inside. Shredded lettuce, pickles, fresh tomato and mayo as topping. It was really perfect. Made me feel like I was right back in New Orleans chowing down on some Cajun grub. Then this catfish something. I literally have no idea what we were eating but I know I loved it. The best way I can think to describe it was a catfish Étouffée but that definitely wasn't the name of the dish. The gravy-type stuff had this flavor that I'm craving again a few hours later. Not too spicy, not too bland. But, plenty of choices for hot sauce all over the table ready to kick up what I was eating. And then we had red beans and rice. Just perfectly spicy and traditional with big chunks of sausage and shredded chicken. It was great. We didn't have the bread pudding because prior to eating dinner, we may or may not have split two cupcakes. But, I vow to go back and try the bread pudding - it's the only thing that could make that meal any better! read more

I found this place late one night while wandering around Montrose. Looking for something new to eat, I wondered why I had never noticed this small restaurant before. Cajun food sounded good, and I am always glad to find another late night place for a quality bite to eat. Eating in is on my list of things to do, but for my first visit, I decided to get my food to go. When I arrived there with my friend, we were told we could have a seat anywhere, and had a good look over the menu. My first impression was, "geez, this is a little expensive", but I figured portion size must be large. I ordered "Bullet for the King" po' boy, with sausage gumbo, and red beans. Wait time was relatively short, and the staff there seemed nice. While I was there, I realized that the owner was a graduate of the University of Houston's Bauer College of Business' Entrepreneurship program. I thought that was a pretty impressive feat, and I was glad to be patronizing a fellow Cougar's business. When I got home, the first thing I ate was the po' boy, and it was amazing. I can honestly say that this was one of the absolute best sandwiches I've ever eaten. However, the gumbo was only average, and the red beans and rice were a bit bland. Portion size was not as large as I had hoped either. If the other food was consistently as good as the sandwich, and the prices were a bit lower, I'd easily give this place five stars. read more

While it wasn't really late when I tried BB's, I had consumed the requisite couple of drinks, so I think I'm in good shape to review :). As many have noted, its a bit tricky to find and pretty darn small, but who cares, when the food is this good and inexpensive. This was GREAT FOOD! I had the grits and grillades, which had an excellent rich deep broth and creamy grits - YUM! Hubby had an awesome po'boy. I can't believe this place has been around this long and I haven't been there. We also had the Kathie B's Campechana , fresh shrimp, crab, and avocado goodness to tie it all together - it was really, really good (there's a picture of it someone posted on yelp). I've only been here on the late night after being very thirsty. (my boyfriend goes regularly at all times) This place and food definitely satisfy. My cure-it-all dish is the Texcajun-Virgin, I really don't even know what it all consists of but its a big plate of fries and sauce and some sort of meat :? The place is crazy loud - bad acoustics. Bought a Groupon for this place that says it was worth two $10 bowls of gumbo and 2 soft drinks. Who says this is cajun? What's up with the hoagie bread and the rock hard rice in the black gumbo? Sigh, I've tried this place twice. Once during mardi gras and one late night since it was open late. I'm a native cajun and I've eaten cajun/ creole food growing up. It just doesn't taste right. The po-boy is not on the right french bread. The Gumbo was more of a soup and mine had hard rice in it. The Shrimp appetizer i had came close to new orlean's bbq shrimp, close enough flavor but the shrimp was over cooked and dry. The fried seafood plate that my buddy ordered came out extra crispy and very crunchy. Way overdone. The service was out of the ordinary. Our first trip, My friends and I sat at a high top with stools. Before we even got our food, the long haired lady to kept running around tried to bill us and get us out of our seats. Maybe it was because it was during mardi gras time and we were the only ones not drinking but that was pure rude especially since she didn't try to scoot anyone else out. The second time we ate there, the server was extremely pleasant. Though it was late night he tended to all our refills and pre-bussed our tables as we ate and was very sincere. O wow!!!! I just had the most decadent macaroni and cheese, called Chalmette Macaroni, BB's makes from scratch macaroni and cheese, the cheese sauce is rich and yummy and has fresh chopped jalapenos mixed in for both a bit of heat and some crunch. The pasta is cooked perfectly, not overdone and mushy. Then to top it off, there is a healthy layer of their amazing roast beef and brown gravy on the top. If everything is as tasty as this, I will become a regular! I hope that the online ordering goes live soon!!! read more

I contemplated giving this place a three-star review, but I'll have to admit that I was swayed by all the other reviews that talked about their customer service. Then I looked at "A-OK" and thought, "Well, that's more like A-NOT-OK." So that's part of the explanation for the two-star review. Here's the rest. For a place that looks, well, it looks like literally a hole-in-the-wall, you really wouldn't expect premium prices for their food. I know, normally you pay up to an arm and a leg for Cajun food around here, but still. You would think. Yes, I know, Montrose rent is probably sky high, but still. It looks like a hole in the wall. My usual order at a Cajun restaurant is usually the crawfish etouffee. It's been a while since I've had real NOLA food, so I really can't make the ultimate comparison. I can just compare it to all the rest of the Houston knock-offs. It was the most expensive thing on the menu, seventeen dollars to be exact. Nothing super special, but it didn't make me choke. Nothing that will make me crave it at a later time. I also got the boudin balls, which were also of the mediocre quality. The seven dollar Maw-Maw's bread pudding, however, was legit. I'm a baker, so when I come across a quality baked good, I have to give props. I thought to myself at the time that I would go back just for the bread pudding. But I never did. If my review was based on their Chalmette Macaroni alone, the rating would be 5 stars. It's by far the best macaroni and cheese I've had. The Chalmette is Luby's style mac & cheese but topped with roast beef debris, brown gravy and chopped jalapenos. Once mixed all together it's out of this world! I also had the shrimp po-boy and it was just meh. The fried shrimp was good and the portions were very generous. The bread on the other hand left something to be desired. It was chewy and tough. I probably wouldn't order one again or at least anytime soon as there are quite a few other things on the menu that looked delicious, including breakfast. The place is very small, maybe 10 tables. But as an added plus, Lonestars are $1.75 and they have a very wide selection of Abita. read more
