Truly a gem! The place was so cute in the sense of a great atmosphere, great workers, great decor. I have been to the honey cafe down the street and this was definitely better. Although they don't have as many options as Honey Cafe this place is more intimate and cheaper! I wanted to try the cragel or the toast with the egg but I lucked out on timing. Not to worry though because I will definitely come back again. This time around I split an Asiago bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese coupled with a mint mojito. The bagel came out hot and both items did not take a long time to come out. There is the cashier, the barista, and the chef. Great team. As for seating there was more than expected! There are people who come and go on their computers, and others who just stop by for breakfast. A few chairs outside, and one large table that can fit 8 on the inside. Great spot for a breakfast Sammie. Quick service and super tasty. We split a spicy chicken sandwich which is plenty for two marginally hungry people. Oh Beanstalk Cafe, where do I even start? I came here on the first day I came to San Francisco for breakfast with my boyfriend and the expectation and the hype here did not let me down. I have read many reviews here centering around Beanstalk Cafe so I decided to give it a try here. This place is very lovely. The outside was beautiful and it made me look really cute compared to the other buildings surrounding it. Here is my evaluation for it. Basic Facts- - I came here and I ordered a toasted cup and a milk tea. The toasted cup here is what they are famous here for and it is about $4.50. The milk tea here is about $4.00. - My boyfriend got a Polgulgi (Korean BBQ) sandwich that was about $5.50. Pros- - The people there are very friendly! - The seats there is limited but if you find a seat, it's pretty nice to hang out here. The atmosphere is wonderful. One of the best cafe I have seen in a really long time. I wish they had this back in New York City. - The names here for the food is very unique and creative as well. - The food here is extremely good and tasty. Cons- - There are limited seats. Only one table and about 5 other seats near a bar like table. It was kind of crowded in the morning because everyone was ordering and trying to grab a seat as well. - In my opinion, the milk tea was not that good. My boyfriend enjoyed it but to me, it did not taste like the milk tea you would usually get in Chinatown. It was a bit bland and unsweetened. I walked way up hill on mason with my baby and stroller to this place. I was excited to have finally found it! But only to find out that they don't have a high chair. So unfortunately, I had to take my food to go since there was no where for my 8 month old to sit. Anyway, now onto the food. I ordered a cragel with egg and cheese. The cragel was a little burnt at the top but it still tasted good. They didn't go cheap on the eggs I had quite a bit on my sandwich and just enough cheese as well. The price was pretty high for a small sandwich, though. I suppose the prices in dt sf are pretty high everywhere. I would recommend this place if you don't have a little one with you. Coming from out of town, I wanted to try something that I couldn't get back home and I found the cragel sandwich through Yelp. I came on a Sunday morning around 10:00am and the cafe was pretty busy but I didn't have to wait a long time to order. AMBIANCE: - The interior is just like any cute cafe, bright and airy. - There are not many tables only about 6 or so you really have to be on the lookout to see if any diners are leaving their table so you can claim their seat. FOOD: - Cragel sandwich with sausage: This was sooo delicious! The combination of croissant and bagel was even better than I was expecting. The top is croissant-like with it's flaky and buttery taste but the sandwich is also more hearty like a bagel than a croissant. The sandwich is filled with fluffy scrambled eggs, chunks of sausage, and melted cheese. Paired with some hot sauce (which they'll give you upon your request), you have the perfect hot breakfast sandwich! - Drip coffee: I just got a normal black drip coffee to go with my sandwich and it was just your normal cup of black coffee, nothing too special. The staff works hard and are all so nice. It's the closest cafe to our house and I'm so thankful it is such a great spot! Great place to come have a chat or work/read. I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon for a light brunch and thought it was a cute place. There was a short line, and I ordered an egg & sausage cragel sandwich and a cappuccino when I got to the front. I was told that there would be a 10-15 minute wait for my food, which was fine. Note: The cragel is just a croissant shaped like a bagel. Essentially you're just getting a warm croissant sandwich, but the shape actually holds the sandwich together a lot better. I got my cappuccino about 5-10 minutes after ordering. It was bitter, and overall just meh. I would get my coffee somewhere else next time. The big down side is that they only had one person making the sandwiches, despite it being pretty busy, and it wasn't until around 25 minutes later that we got our food. Much later than I was originally told. It seems like they could use some improvement in their setup to be more efficient in making the food. The cragel itself was crispy on the outside and worth trying. The filling ratio was mostly egg, so I couldn't really taste the cheese or the sausage as much. A little more cheese or sausage would've been nice, though I love eggs, so I didn't mind too much. Overall, the sandwich was tasty, but nothing amazing. It was too late in the day for their egg cup (sad day!) but their breakfast sandwiches were still an option. These suckers were worth the 9.25 price tag. Large, freshly made, and bread that was seriously swoon-worthy; it was filling for pretty much the entire day. Add in a two latte's, and our breakfast was under $30. The interior is large and bright with a few tables and sofas to chillax on. Super crispy toast parts (almost like a thick pita chip), savory bacon, and perfectly cooked egg went well together. Wanted to try the drip coffee, but opted for the Americano instead. It was perfect with the toast cup! My friend tried their cragel (croissant and bagel), and it tasted exactly like you would think a croissant-bagel would! I loved the unusual texture-kinda chewy like a bagel, but lighter and fluffy like a croissant. Prices were very reasonable! This place is a small but cute gem. I like the aesthetics of the coffee shop, and there are several places to sit and work. Many people come in and out because it is near Union Square, but it isn't too disturbing. The coffee is delicious - I usually go for just an americano or espresso, no milk necessary for their beans! The one downside is that their music is really obnoxious, constant top 40 of the worst pop songs around, and some of the songs were repeated over and over. Literally I had ear plugs in because the music was so horrible. Music aside, it's always a decent experience when it comes to their food/drinks. If I had to guess, I'd say that the entire establishment could only accommodate between fifteen and twenty customers at a single time. Most people seem to substitute cragels for bagels (which they also offer) to form breakfast sandwiches, but the cragels are great on their own as well. Buttery and flaky, their texture on the outside emulates that of croissants. The inside, slightly denser, matches the consistency of bagels, and is even a bit chewy. As for the coffee, it's sourced from Contraband, a well-known neighborhood spot located just a short distance away. Because of their arrangement, this cafe is a rare gem, offering both a good cup of coffee and a solid sandwich or pastry. Love this place! It has the cutest blue/glass exterior that's hard to miss. The inside has high ceilings, comfortable seating, and (I think) 6 tables. Food takes ~10 minutes to come out, but when it does - it's hot and melty and goooooey goodness. My go to coffee shop - for a few reasons... First, it's on my way to work and I enjoy so very much stopping here, having an espresso and then continuing on my way. Secondly, I really like the staff and the coffee. This place makes you feel like at home. They just recently finished their renovations and it's spacious, and bright (with the large windows)! They have lots of food options, great for breakfast and lunch... Or just great coffee options ! Came here for the mint mojito iced coffee and it was okay. I personally liked Philz better but that's just me. Also got the tofu sand which and was good but I think to expensive however this is down town and $15 is about what you pay for a coffee and sand which so I'm not too surprised. My friend got the grilled cheese and that was pretty good. I loved the Cafe itself and how aesthetic it is! Very cute and the service was also nice. I had high expectations for the cragel. The pictures looked mouthwatering, and croissants and bagels are some of my favorite foods, but I am also incredibly picky about both of them. I received my cragel with cream cheese and it was pretty dry and the bottom was burnt in the toaster. That's normally not a problem, but the bread just didn't taste very fresh. Perhaps I got a bad batch, but I came around 8am and thought they would be fresh if I got there so early. I couldn't taste the buttery flakiness of a croissant or the chewiness of a bagel. It was just kind of stale, and the cream cheese tasted like the cheap kind you pick up from a grocery store. All that being said, the cafe's atmosphere was lovely and I would have loved to spend the morning there if I had more time. Plenty of light and tables, and plenty of other food options to choose from next time.
