We stayed nearby for a couple of nights and I had coffee here both mornings. The first morning was because it was nearby and the second was because the coffee was really good... AND it was nearby. I had a morning glory muffin both mornings alongside my drip coffee of the day. The people at the counter were different each morning, but both times they greeted everyone and smiled a lot, though not in a creepy way. The place is pretty spacious and clean and it is not noisy like some places -- though, at 6-7am, I guess a lot of people are still waking up! :D They seem to get a lot of local traffic, which is a good sign. My wife took some good photos of the place while I mostly sat and enjoyed my coffee. The location is right near the Mountain Road beach access stairs and I took my coffee on a walk down to the water -- it was high tide, so the ocean was all the way up to the bottom of the steps, but there was a nice view and the ocean spray in the morning was refreshing. read more

Sunday morning at 10. Staff was nice. Coffee was good but I don't recommend the food. It wasn't busy. 3 gals up at counter. 1 guy in back preparing the food alone. 4 breakfast items ordered, 1 order after another & came out at very different times. 2 ordered breakfast burritos & one came out 15 min later. He did keep us updated on status of food & apologized for delay. The poor guy needed some help which he didn't get from front staff. And they were not busy, saw them talking to each other while he was trying hard to keep up. I also had to go to the counter & tell them they were out of paper towels in bathroom. My decaf Americano was wonderful. The breakfast bowl was light on the greens, very heavy on avocado mash. Just ok but only $8. Burritos were not very large but tastes ok when they arrived. read more

Our free hotel breakfast wasn't really thrilling us so this place right next door saved the day. The mixed berry scone was truly flavorful and delicious and my husband enjoyed his morning glory muffin enough to purchase it two days in a row. We also were satisfied with our coffee and hot chocolate purchases. The staff here is very friendly and laidback. I walked into this beautiful coffee shop within walking distance to the ocean. It was surprisingly spacious with lots of seating and a couple outlets. Additionally, they have merch, pastries and fresh roasted coffee bags ready to purchase. But in this occasion, I needed to sober up. So I got the horchata latte. The girl at the counter was really sweet and ensured I got my iced latte in a timely manner. It was really good. It was subtle, not too sweet with the perfect amount of syrup and cinnamon. Stopped in for an iced latte and our friends got the featured drink which I think had cardamom in it and we all enjoyed our drinks. The order and pickup counter is so relaxing with some beautiful plants and big windows that let in ample natural light. Great location and very clean and organized inside. The cashier was kind and helpful as it was our first time here. Unfortunately the coffee just was not good... Ok so location is amazing love a cute little Laguna Beach Coffee shop. First time I came here I got their seasonal orange latte (back in April) and tbh not bad i enjoyed it. My bf got a latte with their house made almond milk at the time and it looked like the milk went bad and tasted horrible (picture below). You know what things happen it was just 1 latte so i kind of ignored it and went back a couple days ago. Got their vanilla latte and dirty chai with whole milk cause their almond milk now scares me. My vanilla latte tasted like a cup of milk that they poured next to an espresso shot (i'm talking the la croix of coffees here) and the dirty chai was watered down?? but also too spicy at the same time (this is coming from someone who has grown up drinking Indian chai so spices don't scare me but this one was weird). Now to food: We got their egg sandwich and u know what not bad probably the only redeeming quality of this place so far. Solid 7.5/10 I think, like nothing special but a good sandwich. Was a nice pit stop for us as we did a family drive up the PCH from Dana Point to Newport and back down. I got the matcha, husband got drip coffee and he said it's decent. Will make it a regular stop while exploring all the shops and restaurants up and down the coast. Came into Bear Coast Coffee and it was so cute! It was decorated for Christmas and I loved it! So much seating indoors and very cozy! I got the lemongrass chamomile iced tea and it was perfect without sugar! The Cold Brew tasted light! I got avocado toast added and egg and the oatmeal! 'Twas just another day in Laguna Beach... or so I thought. I stroll into Bear Coast Coffee, Enter Olivia. Barista? No. queen. I asked if there was an espresso tonic that had some sort of juice (a drink that carries nostalgia from a coffee shop of my youth). She informs that they don't have anything on the menu like that so i just ordered a normal coffee. Such a nice welcome to the neighborhood. Been anxiously awaiting it to open! I like the location as it's away from the congested touristy area, and hopefully remains a "local" spot. Space is really open w/ a cool coastal vibe. In terms of coffee, cappuccino was quite good. The nutmeg vanilla latte was good, but way too sweet for my palette. The egg sandwich was a bit disappointing. Egg was over cooked and hard. Lettuce, avocado kinda got lost in the brioche...bread / ingredients ratio = way too much bread. Would probably be way better on white or sourdough. Likely still getting up to speed and adjusting to the learning curve. Would def. Give another try again. read more

This is several months late, but after we lost our home in the Eaton Fire we evacuated to Laguna and went here the morning after. They had an entire counter full of hats, shirts, coffee beans, and more completely free for fire victims. They gave us free drinks. The generosity of this company was completely overwhelming and incredible. Regardless of my emotional state, the taste was also fantastic. I had the caramel lavender latte and it's one of my favorite coffee drinks I've ever had. The toasts were also delicious- we had an avocado toast that was perfect. This is a quaint little coffee shop right next to the beach. Bear Coast always serves decent quality coffee, and the baristas are so friendly and smiley here. My friend and I enjoyed our drinks as we stopped by the beach which was only a few steps outside to enjoy the view. There were more tables and seating than I expected so this may be a worthy study spot if I'm willing to make the drive out ever! read more

I saw a review from what must've been a grumpy single guy. He complained about a children's area which I thought was hilarious -- he clearly must not have children. My daughter enjoyed playing with the Legos quietly while she and I waited for my coffee. It was a great help because us mamas know that our babies sometimes can be hard to contain. I ordered the vanilla nutmeg coffee, and quite enjoyed the balanced taste. I guess the only thing I would say was that I wish the customer service was a little bit more friendly. Finally a great coffee shop arrived to Laguna. I've been searching for a good coffee in Laguna for years so was very excited to see Bear Coast open the doors. It didn't disappoint. Excellent bean picks, perfectly roasted and brewed. Delightful. Their pastries are excellent too, especially the guava/cheese turnover. This location also sells coffee beans to brew at home, and two kinds we tried so far (Rwanda and Ethiopia) were both fantastic. Cannot recommend this coffee shop high enough. read more
