We went to Beard Papa's on Saturday afternoon and H-mart was nuts! So many people. No line at beard papa's and due to some prior strategizing, we were ready to order. We got the original with chocolate ice cream inside and it was my favorite of the three. We also got the oreo with vanilla and a creme brulee. I liked the creme brulee more of those two and it seemed to be the favorite of my brother in law, who got to try the non ice cream options. I was a bit disappointed they were out of green tea filling since its what I was looking to most but we'll definitely be back when we do some shopping at h-mart in the future. The cream brûlée is essentially the regular cream puff but with torched sugar on top. For a dollar increase, the only addition is the torched sugar. They cut off a 1/3 of the regular cream puff and then flattened the filling to dust the sugar to torch. I personally think there was not enough to it for it to be the highest costing puff on the menu. Because it's not a round puff, it's also messier to eat because when you bite into it the cream will get over your face if you aren't careful. I've loved Beard Papa's for years and years and years (since I lived in Asia) and it's not just nostalgia because this one does not disappoint. The pastries here were very crisp and light and the custard cream inside was smooth, cold, and not too sweet. Perfect. I like these much more than regular cream puffs because the custard doesn't feel heavy and is more flavorful. But remember, the sweetness is calibrated for the Asian palate. Actually, that's why I like the original the best. The flavored ones have a suuuuuper sweet topping that isn't very strong on whatever the flavor it's supposed to be. It just tastes like sugar or white chocolate. And to me, that detracts from and overwhelms the cream filling. But YMMV and there are plenty of people who enjoy the flavored ones. read more

The cream puffs are filled with the custard like filling when you place your order. We have tried the original cream puffs which is fantastic and the chocolate eclair one which is also fantastic! We tried the chocolate eclair one with the original filling and also with chocolate filling. both were yummy. I took some to my sister and she really enjoyed them. The cream puffs liner says "best consumed same day" and I agree they probably would not taste as fresh the next day. That definitely would not be a problem in my house. read more

I don't know if the Austin locations are not part of the actual Beard Papa franchise stores or independently operated but I've had multiple bad experiences there compared to others across the nation and their standards DO NOT compare. I bought puffs at the Domain location and waited about a half hour only to drive home 2 hours and find out they didn't even put the filling in them. The location inside of H-Mart CONSISTENTLY doesn't have matcha cream filling and, other than one very sweet employee, won't make any no matter how many you wish to buy. I love the convenience of that location being inside H-Mart, but I continue to be disappointed in their lack of filling selections, etc. read more

The bread has a slight crisp on the outside and very light and fluffy inside. The custard is rich, creamy, tastes like it's extracted from vanilla beans.
