So glad I got to experience brunch at Beatrix! We had reservations for 10:30 and only had to wait a few minutes to be seated outside. It was such a nice day and they even had umbrellas to block the rays. We started with mimosas, orange and blue. Very tasty, especially the original mimosa. Then I had the egg white omelette with golden hash browns, sausage and delicious wheat toast. I enjoyed it all! I had no idea sausage could be so good and flavorful and light but juicy. I wish I had a whole platter of it. The omelette was very filling and fluffy and the tomatoes and veggies on top were a nice touch. I asked for the side order of hash browns and am glad I did! Crispy and perfectly complemented the eggs and toast. I definitely didn't finish it all but I tried my best! Maybe I won't fill up so much on the mimosas next time. Most items on the menu are $8-12 and generally a "healthier" spin on brunch. Knocked off half a star because the service is inconsistent - sometimes we get super attentive service, and other times we're forgotten.. My favorite dishes below:) 1) Wonderful egg white omelette - light, healthy, cherry tomatoes, avo. Yum. 2) Braised pot roast & egg sandwich - toasted ciabatta bread with the most tender pot roast so so so so rich and delicious 3) Light & Fluffy lemon pancakes - they taste like clouds. Beatrix has some great food options, although they aren't pictured here. Happy hour prices are a good deal but other than that they are pretty pricey and add a 3% surcharge. Their grab and go and bar options are really expensive. This recent visit was fine but the hostess at my prior visit was incredibly rude as I had left my credit card at the table and realized as I made it out the door before quickly turning around and they refused to let me look for it until the manager got involved which seemed pretty unnecessary. The manager was very nice and helpful though. Overall I would pick woodwind over Beatrix if you're eating at the hospital for a nice dinner or lunch. read more

I stopped in at the dinner hour and was seated immediately. I started with a glass of Pinot Noir that was suggested. I never caught the name but it was very "cherry flavored" which I did not enjoy. I decided on the double dip appetizer and boy was it amazing!! The fresh veggies and the presentation was colorful and fun. The guacamole with the roasted corn was so delicious. The avocado cream dip was so creamy and smooth. I literally ate all of it!!! It is enough to share but you won't want too!! For my main course I selected the green chicken enchiladas. Fabulous presentation with the color and portion size. The flavor made you palate explode! I wanted to hug if not marry the chef. Super filing but I just couldn't stop eating it. Everything on this menu sounds amazing and for the most part, it is. We asked to start with the chia pudding and then to have the other items follow, but we got everything at once. Oh well. The food was absolutely delicious! The side of avocado toast was shockingly huge and only $7. The chia seed pudding was so good! I'm totally recreating that one at home!! I liked the cauliflower grits, but I would have liked it more had there been more brussel sprouts and seasoning. I had to keep adding salt to this one. The latte was very poorly made. It just tasted watered down. Very weak. The coffee was also weak, but luckily they had a second roast to choose from. It was ever so slightly better. I liked the ambiance and the friendly service. I was slightly disappointed because there was a group of four that sat down after me and my boyfriend and they got served first before we got our food. Our appetizer was the goddess *something* and they pretty much added green coloring to ranch and called it healthy. Don't get me wrong, it's still good and I love ranch, lol. This place is swanky. At least beyond what I'm use to. Apparently there's several locations in downtown, including near Fulton Market and River North. Probably a good idea to know which one, especially if you're meeting your friends there. Take that from me. This one is located next to the Northwestern Hospital campus near the Mag Mile. My homies and I ordered the kennebec fries appetizer, which had chilis and crispy lemons garnishing the dish. It was good, and gave me a great preview of the fries that came with the burger I was about to order. This place is definitely $$$ and I went with the Prime Burger, as mentioned above. It came with kennebec fries, house-made giardiniera, and your choice of either aged white cheddar, wisconsin swiss or havarti. The burger itself was cooked at a perfect medium. I'll have dock down one star as the service was extremely slow. Our waters were not filled at all, and when we flagged the staff for a new caraffe of water, it took over 10-minutes. Asking for mustard took close to 10-minutes as well. I don't know whether they were understaffed or not, but the restaurant was moderately busy for a Tuesday night. Not sure what the deal was. I appreciate that the logistics of avocado toast would be pretty complicated for a fast food joint to pull off... which is why they shouldn't even bother! That too-smooth avocado paste is a hard pass for me. Well I hope it's spectacular avo toast at that price point, damn. Lol, I live with someone who despises avocado in all forms so I'm forbidden from bringing any into the house. Just saying the word "avocado" sends them into a rage. I have to get my avocado on the down low while out n about...which hasn't happened since the beginning of the pandemic. I'm glad you liked it and I do agree that this is a nice option for people to pick up quickly vs. having to go to an actual restaurant. I stopped by for a weekday lunch (reservations are recommended!) and ordered the wild mushroom teriyaki bowl ($18.95), along with a mango/orange/pineapple nectar drink ($6.50). The stir-fry rice dish was flavorful with the teriyaki sauce, and the textures of the various wild mushrooms were pretty nice, but I still thought everything was overpriced. The nectar drink was refreshing and flavorful as well, but it was served in a pretty small glass with a lot of ice, so there really wasn't that much nectar -- kind of disappointing for a $6.50 drink. Might be back to try out some of the breakfast or dinner options, but there are definitely some better options for a good meal in the city. read more

Even though I live closer to the River North location, this has become my go-to Beatrix. I work at Lurie so it is so convenient to end up here for drinks after work [well, pre-Covid cold weather] or grab Brunch with friends prior to an evening shift. The food and drinks are always consistently good and the staff is great! I've only had one bad service experience and considering the number of times I've been to this location, that's a very small percentage so basically negligible! My go to's for lunch/dinner are the Straight A salad and the Kenebec fries! For breakfast, I love the pepper and egg sandwich or the eggs your way! The breakfast enchiladas on the brunch menu are SO good!! Their pastries and desserts are incredible and I have yet to try something I didn't like! Overall, SO wonderful!! read more

We recently popped into their Northwestern campus location between a pair of doctor's appointments for a quick breakfast - we were immediately seated, offered coffee and juice, including a $6.50 pineapple/pear juice that was very refreshing. Service was stellar at the "sit-down" side of the restaurant, and traffic was hopping on the "to-go" market side as well. The Pot Roast and Egg sandwich ($8.95) sounded a little strange, but was amazingly tender and very flavorful. The Cauliflower Grits ($13.95) were the surprise hit at the table - creamy corn grits with roasted cauliflower florets and crispy shaved Brussels sprouts with two perfectly frizzled eggs resting on top. Everything was very flavorful, service was spot-on and the location was super convenient. Add a small fresh bowl of seasonal fruit and our breakfast topped out at $38, before the tip. read more

We ate breakfast at Beatrix based on the recommendation of our friends. They told us two things: 1) This restaurant is basically in a hospital. 2) It's a Lettuce Entertain You restaurant. So clearly, I had high expectations, and I was not let down. The space itself is actually larger than it looks from the street. But it is lovely. Modern and warm, with wood interior but still managing to feel open and spacious. It really is a very nice space to eat a meal in. The breakfast menu was not huge but offered plenty of interesting options. As someone who is not a huge fan of spicy food, I was a little challenged but was easily able to order what I wanted with no spice. I started with a fresh-squeezed orange juice, which was just fine and fit the bill as expected. Then I got the avocado benedict, hold the jalepenos. I was surprised (in a good way) when my benedict came to the table. It's basically an eggs benedict constructed sans english muffin. Instead the eggs are nested inside two halves of an avocado. Since I love avocado, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce pretty much more than life itself, this was essentially perfect. The eggs were expertly poached, the hollandaise was creamy and very good. My husband got the belgian waffles, which were cute and kind of coaster sized, and our friend got the lemon pancakes, which probably would have been my second choice and were lovely. We also got the candied bacon, which you should order just because it's bacon (pro tip: ask for crispy). Very nice meal in a very nice restaurant. Recommend. read more

I went & grabbed the food from the bar (to go) and had the manager try and stop me asking if I had paid for my meal. Would they have asked a white person that? I started with the Power Greens Juice (kale, romaine, celery, pineapple, mint) which used great. For my main I went with the Wild Mushroom Teriyaki Bowl which was a good portion size and very tasty. We got coffees to go which the server obtained for us so we didn't have to queue in the coffee shop line. Came for brunch without reservations and was seated approximately 40 minutes after arriving. While waiting to be seated I got a malted Freddo which tasted like iced chocolate milk with a shot of espresso. Being a chocolate milk fan I enjoyed the drink. For brunch I got the light and fluffy lemon pancakes which were indeed light and fluffy. Most places pancakes are so dense and cake like that I can barely finish one. The pancakes here were perfect! Presentation was good and the sweet lemon syrup went great. I do want to come back for lunch and try their Caesar salad with a yogurt dressing next time. A big pricey, but I loved the brunch menu! It was on the corner of my hotel so didn't have to walk through traffic. There are many vegetarian options on the menu and the staff was willing to change or replace an ingredient if allergic or dietary reasons. I ordered the STEAK CHIMICHURRI & EGGS which consist of grilled shishito peppers, eggs your way, golden hash browns. I didn't see the peppers, I'm hoping that it was chopped up. The interior is warm, stylish and inviting. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. I had hot coffee, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and the bougie-as-heck but delicious avocado toast. Local chain in the Chicago area, as there's a few scattered throughout the city. I came here for brunch once with my fiancé. The ambiance, service, and vibe of the place is great but personally I thought the food was just average. The fried chicken sandwich lacked flavor and spice. There was an air of business but not chaos. The space is bigger than it appears from the outside and even from the entrance. As you enter there is a bar/bakery area and to your left is a much bigger dining area, still very much packed. The entire restaurant was very clean and the tables were spacious and sturdy. Our waitress immediately made us feel at home, making a few suggestions and answering any questions we had. I ordered a Latte. Water was brought to us and our coffee shortly thereafter. I ordered the Chimichurri Steak and Eggs. The place was busy so I expected a short wait on the food but it wasn't too long. We enjoyed sipping our coffee and conversation while waiting. The steak and eggs were good. They weren't spectacular and about what I expected. The portion of steak and hash browns were a bit small in my opinion but nothing outrageous. The toast and the chimichurri were fine as well. It was a decent breakfast/brunch for what I paid. Beatrix was a nice spot to sit and visit while having a cup of coffee. I liked the ambiance. It was vibrant but not annoying. It's definitely a place where people go to get together. The food is not spectacular but it's also not disappointing either. I was strolling around Downtown Chicago for the first time and wandered into this gem. I was in town for a quick work trip and wanted to go see the city and what it had to offer. I was not disappointed. I was seated right away and greeted promptly. I tried the strawberry guava refresher and it's was delicious. It was a little thicker in consistency, which I'm not usually into, but the flavors were on point. Maybe put some soda water or something in it. I finished it, Yum! Then I went for the classic breakfast with maple sugar, peppered bacon. OMG that bacon! The hash browns were buttery, crispy, and delicious, and the over medium eggs were cooked perfect. You can tell a lot about a place when they just nail the simple things. The service was prompt and very friendly, not missing a single step. There were many other tantalizing offerings available. Came in over the weekend for a birthday dinner. Made a reservation ahead of time and were seated right away. Interior is nice, nothing too exotic. Ordered the blood orange bourbon and apple old fashioned, both were absolutely delicious although I'm not sure how much alcohol was actually in them. For food we ordered Chicken BeBe (phenomenal), Tortilla Soup (wonderful), and Kennebec Fries (meh). My two complaints were that the chicken BeBe needs a starch with it, even a small bed of rice. Outside of that, the dish is rich and phenomenal. Tortilla soup was wonderful. But the fries, I've never felt so meh about fries before. Overall it was an okay experience. Have been to other beatrix's, felt a bit disappointed in this one. Hoping it was just an off night. read more

Well, Chicago, all I can say as a visitor from your little sister to the north (Milwaukee) is WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU DONT SERVE COCKTAILS UNTIL 10AM. But that aside, this place was wonderful. My husband got the chicken tinga, I got the enchiladas (absolutely smothered in cheese) and when 10 rolled around he had mimosas (one tradish, one "blue") and I had the boozy banana joe.
