    Goodness I.

Came here for the first time! There are so many flavors to pick from-thankfully they let you try as many as you want (I'm assuming there's no limit). There's seating inside and outside, as well as a playground for kids!

Y'all! I was today years old when I found out that there is a Handel's homemade ice cream location here in Austin (620 & Anderson Mill)!! So of course I had to visit and get some of the best ice cream ever!!! I lived in Youngstown Ohio, and Handel's was a local staple! Anytime I visit my family in Youngstown, We always visit Handel's too, maybe two or three times. A traditional Handel's location only has walk up window ordering available. But to my surprise, This location on Anderson Mill had an indoor ordering option. My son and I ordered. He got a scoop of chocolate and then I got the sampler bowl that comes with four small scoops. The sampler Bowl is such a great deal. I ordered the pistachio, horchata, butter pecan, and chocoholic. And it did not disappoint. There is something very special about this ice cream and I am just so excited to have found them here. I talked to the owner while I was there and he told me the story on how they came to open this location about 3 years ago. He also mentioned that he is opening his second location further north very soon. That makes my heart so happy!!! And my belly Anywho, Even though this location is almost 40 minutes from my home, It is worth the drive until they open the location closer to me. Who am I kidding, It's worth the drive no matter what. Next time I'm going to get one of those amazing waffle cones!!!

Fresh home made on the premises and very tasty. Nice and creamy and worth the indulgence!

I'm glad this place is here :-)

Huhhhhhh...I went to the register in front of the clerk and pulled a long 8-10 inch hair out of my ice cream so that she could see herself. By the time I caught it, I was already halfway through eating it. I tried so hard not to vomit in front of everyone. The cashiers at the front were so kind and offered me another flavor, which I took, but I couldn't finish it because of what just happened. We're human and this is purely human error, part of the human experience...but damn. Let's just all be mindful and aware in everything we do. To the workers: I know it gets busy, but please be mindful and present when you scoop, even during the rush hours. Pull your hair back at all times, make sure your hands are clean and PAY ATTENTION. I won't go one star. I still love this place. But I'm dropping it down to 3 stars.

Thank you to the employees for allowing us to walk in a few minutes before they open. They do have new hours for the winter, so keep an eye out! So many flavors to choose from, it's super hard to choose just one. I believe for small items like a cone, you can only choose one flavor, which comes with 3 big scoops. ~ The butter pecan flavor was delicious, super creamy and flavorful. Nice bits and chunks of pecan in it. Definitely my favorite of the two. 5/5 ~ The horchata flavor was a bit too much for one flavor, there was no escape from the cinnamon and I didn't want to keep eating it past the first scoop. It's hard to enjoy the ice cream when it's only one flavor. Definitely not as creamy as the butter pecan. 3/5 Overall great experience, great staff. Plenty of room to sit inside and they also have available seating outside if needed. There is also a playground available for kids if they want to play. :)

Hge flavor selection that can satisfy everyone. If you really enjoy one specific flavor, their small/medium/large sizes are very cheap! But I do like variety so opted for the 4-Scoop Sampler. Which is plenty for 2 people. Flavors usually include a base flavor (cream-based/ chocolate/ pumpkin, etc) and with some toppings (gram cracker/ marshmallow/ cheesecake bites etc.) to make up a flavor. I think it is quite clever. Love their key lime pie and horchata. Not overpowering but enough to taste it. Their ice cream is on a denser and and stretchier side so you can be full from it rater quickly. They have outside and inside seating. The inside was not very clean when I went. Make sure you bring water because you'll need it

When kids are good and need to be bribed, nothing is more effective than ice cream! Delicious ice cream every time. Staff is nice and friendly. Line moves fast and the menu has everything you could want. Pro tip you can get a free baby cone with any purchase

We walked into Handel's and were immediately greeted by a kind worker. I was able to sample some flavors before ordering. The ice cream here is my favorite! I got cheesecake with oreo and it is a perfect texture and a great way to cool off on a warm day. The location is convenient and has a lot of parking. They have a mix of classic flavors and some unique ones. Flavors rotate out every now and then. Highly recommend Handel's ice cream!

Yum! Handel's is less than a mile from our house, and we always love getting this sweet treat on the weekends with all of their seasonal selections to boot! The employees are so friendly, helpful with samples and do well to answer questions you have. There is an outdoor playscape, indoor and outdoor seating and it's always pretty busy on the weekends, quieter in the weekdays. Finally, get a stamp card and if you continue to go back, you can get yourself a free return scoop! Yay ice cream! My personal fav is the strawberry cheesecake - because yum chunky decadence of cheesecake in my ice cream is a delicious treat! I've had their ice cream sandwich, handel's pop and floats and everything is good! Plus, there's even a walk up window, now that's convenient!

The service was great, with a friendly, smiling staff. The prices are reasonable and I love the extensive choices.

I really enjoyed this place. Wife and I had been wanting to go for a while but it just never worked out until now, and we are thoroughly pleased. One of the taglines of this place is "we never skimp" and they're not lying whatsoever, but I have no idea if they were referring to the quality or the quantity because every portion size is big and so is the taste. And this is coming from the guy who always wants tons of ice cream. I recommend getting small or medium size if it's 1-2 people and large for anything else. The taste of it all was great too. We ended up getting the 4 Scoop Sampler and tried out a few flavors instead of just having one or two. For the record: Graham Central Station was our absolute favorite. I'm looking forward to our next visit already and thankfully I won't have to wait long since it's literally right down the road from us.

Good local handmade ice cream shop with a lot of different options. If you aren't sure which flavor to choose, go for the 4-scoop sampler to get 4 different flavors. FYI: they are 4 big scoops, so it's enough to share with 2-3 people. We got pumpkin cheesecake, horchata, key lime pie, dark chocolate. They're all equally good, the dark chocolate stands out to me most because it's truly dark chocolate with subtle sweetness. Pumpkin cheesecake has cheesecake chunks in it - I think just pumpkin would be better with stronger pumpkin flavor. Horchata is true to the flavor with cinnamony and milky taste. Key lime pie is also good with graham cracker pie crust pieces. This place is a bit hidden as it's in the same big shopping center with HEB. Pricing is cheap for a big portion. However, the ice cream is lacking something to make it creamier or smoother. Bring your water bottle because they don't have free water, they sell water.

Our favorite place to satisfy our ice cream craving!! I think Handel's is the most underrated ice cream shop in Austin; given they have more than 30 flavors of delicious ice cream, different type of cones, and the most affordable price (if you have many children, this place is for you as the whole family can can enjoy the ice cream often without breaking a bank). The best part for me is, I normally cannot handle ice cream/dairy well, but I was fine every time eating Handel's ice cream (no upset stomach). A+ FOOD: Their ice cream flavors are true to the flavor and there are so many options to choose from. You can even ask them for samples before making your decision! Their flavors DO NOT taste artificial. OUR FAVORITES: - Pumpkin cheesecake chunk (so good with so many pieces of cheesecake) - Graham Central Station (YOU NEED IT) - Key Lime Pie (refreshing, tastes like real dessert) - French silk pie - Chocoholic chunk - Black Cherry - Blueberry cobbler - Chocoholic peanut butter ripple TIPS: 1) We always get their 4-scoop sampler(s) and buy extra waffle cones so we can make our own 4-(or 6) scoop cone! Yes, you bet I customized my own ice cream cone! Why you may ask?! It's because if you buy their medium or large cone (3 or 4?scoops respectively), you can only get 2 flavors which I don't like that. I love more options! 2) You can check out their website online (Handel's Anderson Mill) for their available flavors for this particular location before heading over there, so you have your choices ready (save time and you won't hold up the line when they're busy). SERVICE: For our first time, the also told us to ask for a sample of any flavors we would like to try before buying it. We have been there a couple of times now, and every time we went there, their staff were always friendly and knowledgeable. AMBIENCE/LOCATION: it is located in Plaza Volente, a shopping center that is anchored by HEB on FM620, and other restaurant chains like Torchy's Tacos. Thus, parking spaces are not an issue here. Their store is quite small as there are only a few tables inside but they also have seating outdoors and playscape for kids to play as well. PRICE: They have the most affordable price ice cream in town in my opinion given the quality is as great as other hyped ice cream shops in Austin. Even though their scoop is smaller but I don't mind it as you can enjoy more flavors this way and are not too stuffed by the time you're done. VERDICT: All in all, I highly recommend this place. Check it out and thank me later!

The three of us each grabbed three flavors (F, E, D--haha, funny, right?) and rated each one with sugary zeal. Roasted Beets & Fresh Mint (F, E) - delicious, subtly minty, with a very creamy, mild beet flavor. I never had such a refreshing ice cream that wasn't sorbet. The mint really made a difference. I'm a huge fan of places that curate exotic flavors (a vegetable, really?) into their menu, which only increased my opinion of this place. Hill Country Honey & Vanilla Bean (E) - one of the smoothest vanilla bean ice creams I've had. It reminds me of a traditional ice milk soft serve. It wasn't the most impressive vanilla ice cream I've ever had, but it was still very good in its own right. Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil & Sea Salt (E, D) - such a great balance to the sweetness of the rest of the ice cream options. I always love little chunks of salt in sweets to cut through the sugary intensity, so this one was an instant favorite. GOAT Cheese, Thyme, and Honey (E, D) - a complete 100% hit. Probably my top, alongside the beets. My BFF said it tasted too much like a meal rather than a dessert and couldn't give it a high rating, but as a charcuterie fan, I know there are plenty of "dessert" cheeses. I mean... cream cheese, for example? But is that really a cheese...? Uhhh. Very Strawberry (F) - a clean strawberry flavor. A bit artificial, but still so great. It far outweighed the Sweet Cream w. Strawberry flavor we tasted later. Cookies & Cream (F) - I never liked cookies & cream before, but this changed my mind. It hits so hard when you get a full spoonful. Probably the only cookies & cream I would eat. My BFF's #1. Chocolate Chocolate (F) - love chocolate? Get this. That's all you need to know. Coffee & Cream (D) - oooh, reminds me of the keto coffee ice cream I had once. Would get again. Coffee notes are always great in ice cream. Was this a STRONG standout? No. But did it do its job? Yes. Sweet Cream w. Strawberry (D) - too creamy for me, not enough strawberry. My top flavors by far are: 1) Roasted Beets & Fresh Mint, 2) GOAT Cheese, Thyme, and Honey, and 3) Dark Chocolate, Olive Oil & Sea Salt. All three were unique flavors that I would absolutely get again. We sat on the little barstools watching the line get progressively longer as the night went on. It was really interesting to see how many people came in for a sweet treat at 11 PM. The atmosphere was pleasant, parking was pretty easy, and while it never got too crowded, the place was surprisingly popular.

While we were there, it was always a packed line so it definitely gets really busy from 8-9PM! We got three larges for a total of twelve flavors, a little bit of overlap: Mine: Dark Chocolate Olive Oil and Sea Salt - Really liked this, the bitter saltiness offset the creaminess really well. Coffee with Cream - A very light but roasty coffee, like a light coffee. I liked this!; Goat Cheese, Thyme and Honey - The herbal flavor is more subtle than I expected! Not too sweet, liked this one Sweet Cream & Strawberry - this one didn't stand out much to me Others: Roasted Beets and Fresh Mint - I really liked this one! The beets and mint hit on the back of your tongue, yum Chocolate Chocolate - Very intense chocolate, not too crazy about it though Cookies & Cream - Surprisingly good! I liked this one Very Strawberry - way more strawberry than the sweet cream. I'd recommend this over the sweet cream and strawberry Hill Country Honey & Vanilla Bean - Pretty light, a classic. Thought it was okay. If I had a tier list it would be: 1) Coffee with Cream 2) Goat Cheese 3) Dark Chocolate Olive Oil 4) Roasted Beets and Mint 5) Cookies & Cream 6) Very Strawberry 7) Vanilla Bean 8) Chocolate Chocolate 9) Sweet Cream & Strawberry Overall, a few hits, a few misses, but it was a fun tasting experience. We paid via inKind with no issues, which made it a pretty solid value.

It has about 3 to 4 times as much sugar as it actually needs. In fact, I was physically ill from eating it. Not only does the ice cream itself taste too sugary in the flavors are too cloyingly sweet, but they then want to mix in additional candies and sugar items which blows my mind. I humored them and tried an ice cream with mix ins and was greatly underwhelmed. Everyone who likes Amy's raves about the Mexican vanilla but honestly, that is also way too sweet and tastes like drinking vanilla extract.
