We got caught in one of the big rain downpours that we had this winter right in front of Bento Box and took it as a sign to go in! During the storm (that was totally predicted, but we thought we could beat it) there weren't many people out and about so it wasn't very busy to be expected. There were a few groups of soaking wet patrons like ourselves. We were seated pretty quick and our waiter helped me pick out a flavored Soju so I appreciated that! We were able to order and the food came out altogether in about 10 minutes. We ordered ramen bowls and a roll to share. Everything was very good and we had a really good time! We did however have to head home with the storm going full-blast as it was here to stay for the night, so we really didn't want to leave :) We'll be back again when we're in the area. read more

We came from Los Angeles for an Educator's Conference and were looking for a place to have dinner for a group of 10. Initially, we were going to eat at Station 16 across the street, but when we asked them to provide us 10 individual checks (because we get reimbursed $30 per person, per day by our district), they turned us down. All 10 of us walked out dissatisfied. Looking for a new place to eat we saw Bento Box and thought we'd try it. Worried that they too would turn down our request for 10 individual checks, we sent one of our group to ask before we walked in. The staff assured us they would take care of us and quickly prepared a table for us. The place was clean and had great ambiance. The "beverages" and food started flowing and we all had a great time sharing food and stories. We will definitely be coming back every year for the great food and wonderful service!!! The food here great! I went here to catch up with friends over dinner and drinks and was very impressed by the bento box! I enjoyed it so much I came a second time to try out some more food! I wish I could give them a negative one. This was the worst customer service I've experienced in a long time. The food was terrible. The teriyaki bowl was dry over the rice. In addition to that was supposed to be baked came out oily, and when I complained about it, they said they would not be giving any refunds anything. I would never eat here again. read more

I ordered a few sushi rolls while my buddies ordered some Bento boxes. Those box portions looked nice and big. The sushi was good, but I wouldn't say it's the best sushi I've ever had. The service is HORRIBLE here. There's atleast 1 person who is great but everyone else is rude and impatient. They let you sit at the table for atleast 30min before even bringing water. The food is also pretty good but it's also a hit and miss. The ambience is good too especially being in downtown but it's really sad how bad the service is. Also, don't get something you don't know how it will taste because they will still charge you even if you don't eat it or touch it. They say " you ordered it, so there's nothing I can do about it". Food is okay, nothing to rave about. I had a bento box with teriyaki chicken and shrimp. It didn't say on the menu that by selecting shrimp I would be up charged. One bento box and three sushi rolls was over $100 and they auto-added 18% gratuity AFTER someone at our table found plastic in their sushi roll (which they comped). It's a Friday night and the place was half empty. I refuse to return to establishments that add an auto-tip to the bill and then to add insult to injury, add "recommended tip amounts" at the bottom of the receipt. Pay your employees a fair wage and teach them that a tip is to be earned, not demanded. Didn't see the auto-tip disclosed on the menu anywhere. I guess I'll add Bento Box to my list of places to avoid in the future. read more

We went for a family dinner and were served by the manager/owner. Be careful and make sure you demand a full receipt. He only takes orders on a tablet, and when it's time to pay, he simply comes over and tells you the amount. We asked for a receipt, and he said he would bring it right away, but that we had to pay first. We split the bill among three different cards; we were a family. When he brought the receipt, he only brought the portion that we had split, so we demanded the full receipt for the entire table, and he said, "Oh, it's not possible anymore." We found this very illogical, and he simply ignored us and went to attend to other tables. At that moment, we felt ignored by him, not knowing that he was the manager/owner of the restaurant. The sign at the entrance says 50% off, and I'm sure he didn't apply any discount. The total amount to pay was $580. Keep this in mind when you go to this place. read more

I'm always excited to try restaurants in the down town area, because more often than not, the food most likely will be good. The menu featured a variety of popular Japanese dishes, including sushi and their famous Bento Boxes. Joe K. ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Sizzling Plate: mixed with bell peppers and onion, served on a sizzling hot iron plate with rice, plus a Miso soup. I got a Bento Box with fried tofu: (6pc) firm tofu, lightly battered and deep fried, which included salad, vegetables and rice. I also got a peach flavored Soju drink as a relaxing addition to my meal. Everything was as expected! The food was tasty and appeased our appetites! Oh boy. Downtown Sacramento eateries are hurting with the pure fact of the loss of their customers due to world pivoting to teleworking due to the pandemic. So it is always a great thing to see restaurants hanging in there. Bento Box is doing just that... hanging in there. I dropped in for weekday lunch a few days ago, the food was delicious. My waitress was great. I enjoyed the spaced out table arrangements and nice calming vibe. It is downtown, so the parking availability is metered street parking and self pay parking lots. I dined in. I ordered the teriyaki beef bento box combo $16.50. It came with white rice, pickled cucumbers, green salad, and fortune cookie. The beef was piled high. It was a lot of beef!! Thin tender slices of grilled teriyaki marinated beef. Mmm! It was delicious! It had a slight deep teriyaki flavor without being drenched in sauce or overly sweet. The green salad had a fantastic homemade dressing. The white rice was fluffy and cooked perfectly. There was a small trickle of customers dining in and picking up orders. They only opened half of the dining room, the half closest to the corner with the large windows which I consider the more scenic side anyway. They only had 2 servers working and took a about 3-4 minutes of waiting to be acknowledged at the host stand. It is understandable considering the current world we live in. Anyway, my waitress was awesome! She was working hard and efficiently. She was buzzing around the place tending to her tables and the front counter getting orders from the kitchen and ringing them up. I was not neglected. They get you in with the sign of "50% off all rolls" but then they Jack up the prices of the rolls to $30 bucks so really you aren't getting a good deal. Clever marketing strategy, but you don't get a good deal at all. The food itself was pretty good, I had the lunch special bento box and a sushi roll. The bento box came with a good portion of food and the flavor was pretty good. The sushi roll was good, not mind blowing....and for sure not with $30 that they had it listed for ($15 with the "discount"). Overall this place is decent, not great but not bad. Mind you, I've ordered California rolls from here before and there has been no problem with taste. I went back to the store to see if they can remake it for me and they didn't want to help at all. The manager has horrible costumer service not wanting to help at all. She became defensive and asked why there was three pieces missing. Like ma'am my daughter had one and complained of the taste, so myself and husband tasted one. Like first of all I'm not trying to get anything for free like I'm just trying to get this remade!!! We ordered kids sesame chicken.... instead my daughter was served chicken Katsu. I asked to speak to a manager and BRIAN who is the manager stated this is "our" sesame chicken. I showed him a picture of what I thought I ordered from their menu and I requested to switch out the meat for the correct kind. He stated he could offer me 5% discount on 11.00 meal instead of making right by their customers and switching the meat for the CORRECT order. Instead, I was insulted with a $0.55 discount offer. I just wanted to feed my child what SHE ORDERED! Instead I felt like I was robbed and had no options but to pay. I use to go here all the time before COVID. I been here a few times in the middle of the day and middle of the week night. I was never impressed. But I recently came back because a friend wanted us to meet here before heading out to the clubs. When I got there there was already food they order a head of time. I was kind of hesitant because of the experience and food choices from before. I gave in and order the sea steak and my partner order an deep fried roll with cream cheese. Surprised, the sea steak was really fresh. The roll was also delicious. My friends had order a stuff mushroom deep fried and that was also really tasty. The sushi rolls she got was also really good. Overall, I was pretty impress considering the last few time I have visited the sushi rolls weren't as fresh. I suggest going on the weekend's for more freshness with the raw sushi rolls etc. The service was really good. Quick to check on us and to take orders. The food came out fast also. The two sushi rolls we tried were good, the chicken teriyaki bento box was also solid. Overall, excellent service, decent atmosphere, good food. Usually order here from Uber eats, nothing fancy but seems fresh and flavorful. Son wanted sushi to celebrate his GFs bday. They are teenagers and eat sushi quite often. Food arrived in a reasonable time, the waitress was nice. Only complaint is when it was time to pay, they trick you into paying a higher tip by not leaving you a check/receipt to show the amount due. Instead the nice waitress comes up with her iPad and "tells" you the total and asks for payment. You only receive a receipt if you ask for one after already paying. As others have stated previously, they greedily add a gratuity to the total without you knowing. Thus paying the gratuity and then tipping on top of gratuity is a scam and they should not be allowed to practice this to their paying customers.
