Super cute and cozy cafe in the heart of Old Town! My friend and I came here a few days ago (on a weekday) around 9:30am. There was already a line going out of the door! Thankfully the line went by pretty fast though. The interior of the coffee shop is nicely decorated with warm tones and a beautiful lit Christmas tree. Staff are kind and efficient! There is very limited seating both inside and out, so if you're coming with a group of more than a few people, I wouldn't get your hopes up for finding a spot. I ordered a hot Honey Lavender Latte and the Avocado Toast with a fried egg. The drink came out almost immediately, while my toast took about 10 minutes. My latte was good except.. it was lukewarm temperature. It was the temperature you would expect if you left a hot drink out for twenty minutes, except it shouldn't be like this if it was immediately given to me after ordering. I do understand that it's the holidays and they were very busy, so I'm hoping this was just a fluke. My biggest pet peeve is hot drinks that aren't hot, hence the 4/5 rating. However, I was obsessed with the avocado toast so I'm forgiving of this flaw! The avocado was fresh, egg was so oozy, and the aioli and seasoning were just the right amount of spice. I feel bad because this place does have insanely good coffee, and they have one of the best breakfast burritos in Scottsdale. That being said, you will wait 30 minutes for an iced coffee. The food also takes forever. One person works the register and is constantly taking orders to get money in the door meanwhile they have only two people working to pump out coffee and it just doesn't add up. All the coffee they have to make sits off on a counter and just piles up and you can tell they have no exact order they work in. Either slow down taking in business or it's time to expand, right now it's the slowest coffee shop in all of Scottsdale. Go some place else. read more

The cafe is a small space but the seating is perfect to fit folks comfortably at the bar and at tables. It's a small but very busy place. We were willing to wait 30 minutes for the coffee because of the great reviews in Yelp. Unfortunately this place let us down. My husband ordered a matcha and it was ok but in his opinion it was no matter than Starbucks. I ordered a vanilla latte with oat milk. It tasted terrible to me. I wonder whether the oat milk or syrup made the latte tasted sour. I drink expresso coffee with oat milk every day. Never a time that I needed to dump it after two sips. That was how bad it was to me. Also the drinks are just warm, not hot. They were quite pricey. Two 12 oz plus a muffin costed $15. Just wanted to let our experience be known. read more

Gosh, this place has stole my heart recently. I came here and fell in love with the coffee, but what I didn't expect was to fall in LOVE with the staff. They are truly unicorns and the driving force in which I continue to return. I have told all my friends about this spot which also is very aesthetically pleasuring to top it off. Found this place from a recommendation. Really is hidden and love that not many people know of this small shop. Located near Goldwater in Old Town Scottsdale. They serve handcrafted drinks, food and pastries. The Lavender Latte and the Breakfast Sandwich are a classic fan favorite. I find that this experience is far more superior to any chain coffee shops. Bardena's source high quality coffee beans and ingredients for all their menu items, and you can really tell! This was our first impression of the town of Scottsdale, and boy were we impressed. Early at 8:30 on a Saturday morning, I wanted to find a cute little spot that wasn't a sit-down big-brunch place, but also had unique coffee drinks and breakfast bites. I found just that in Berdena's. From the moment we stepped in, it was very busy, but the service, attention to detail, and kindness was amazing. The man taking our order was super sweet and it was an all-around a pleasant interaction. We ordered an Americano, Honey Lavender Latte, Cinnamon Toast, Avocado Toast, and Yogurt Parfait. They were all so surprisingly out-of-this-world. The yogurt has some orange zest in it, which really set it apart from all other parfaits I had. Oh my goodness, this little gem is a walk from my job which is both detrimental to my waistline and my bank account. The cappuccinos are fantastic, they even add the heart-shaped foam with cinnamon sprinkles which is gorgeous. I've had their lavender honey latte which was recommended and delicious, and I don't even like lavender! I've also had their avocado toast, which they won an award for, but by far my most favorite was the breakfast sandwich. I am not sure how I ate it so fast, I think I chewed it, but, was likely lost in a transcendence euphoric moment and cannot recall! Highly recommend! I also really enjoy their pegged wall of plants. Decided to go for a walk to get coffee this morning, and have had coffee from here several times, as it's relatively close walking distance. No real disappointment so far. However this morning was another issue! The place was full of people without masks on.. considering the current pandemic requirements, there was NO social distancing being enforced (or recognized by any of the patrons who were there). There were more people outside wearing masks lining up for average coffee! My wife ordered for both of us, so as usual, I waited outside - as I wasn't risking unnecessary exposure to anyone who may or may or know they had the 'Vid' by reducing the floor space area to almost nothing. The place had over 15 people inside - seated or standing, and considering the tiny space, 6ft distancing could never be enforced no matter who small framed anyone was. On to the coffee itself... The coffee was so over-extracted and burnt that it was extremely bitter (and sour). We're talking about in-your-face bitterness. Screw-your-face-up bitterness Not amount of stevia or raw sugar would have fixed this. Coming from a very coffee-focused country that has been strongly influenced by Italian, Greek, Turkish and French coffee culture (), it has been is certainly a big enjoyment for many people (and myself very much so) and you very quickly understand what quality coffee is when done right. I had to tip this out within a few minutes of leaving. What a sheer waste. Extremely disappointing that this was supposedly 'great coffee' when clearly there is a lack of barista knowledge on correctly extracting coffee or just a lack of correct execution in preparation. This over extraction killed any flavour of the actual coffee, turning it into a lifeless and bland brew. While there are many reasons for over-extracting coffee, I'm not sure of what went wrong in the cafe. Could have been for several reasons; You brew for too long. You agitate too much. You grind too fine. You use too much water. You don't remove the filter on your pour overs (big killer). Keep in mind that all this information goes to waste if you're starting off with over-roasted, naturally bitter beans... and always check they are freshly ground! I'll be continuing to look for a cafe that is a coffee mecca around Scottsdale - unfortunately this place just isn't one... yet. read more

It's understandable to be busy, but to not prioritize the correct orders that were put in almost an hr prior or to not even CHECK when my pickup order is going to be ready is beyond lazy. Just telling someone a general time while being snippy doesn't work especially when I can see that you haven't even checked where it's at in line? On top of all that, I get the order and it's NOT EVEN CORRECT. The Avo toast I received is a great indication of the type of service I got today. From the moment I walked in I felt super welcomed and they didn't just ask my name for the order; they repeated it a couple of times during my stay, with the last one really making me smile from ear to ear. It's the little things. In addition to exceptional service, I had a wonderful honey lavender latte and avocado toast with fried egg. Lavender lattes rarely hit the mark for me, either no enhanced flavor at all or I feel like I'm drinking an entire flowerbed of the stuff. This latte had a good nose to it so I could tell there was lavender in it but the drink wasn't overrun by the flavor and the honey was a nice complement to the floral notes. The toast was hearty and although they boast that it's sourdough, it was either very subtle or the spread was bountiful enough to where the bread didn't overwhelm the dish. Honestly this is one of our favorite coffee shops in the area but probably won't go back until the pandemic is over. One of the baristas was sipping coffee and didn't wash her hands before serving us. Another barista just didn't have a mask on whatsoever. I didn't say anything because I assumed he would put one on before making our drinks. He did not. I then asked him to put on a mask politely which he acknowledged but didn't put it on until he had already made our coffee. When we addressed this they didn't apologize. Also one of the other baristas showed up outside from the kitchen without a mask so assuming he doesn't wear one when he's not in the view of customers. If you're concerned about your health, probably best to avoid for the time being. read more

Iced honey lavender latte on point. My biggest pet peeve is when lavender syrup is way too sweet or bitter. Berdena's avoids that with their perfect balance of sweet/floral! I notice they weigh out the syrup in the drink, which is great for consistency. I can appreciate that. The drink was so good that I wished I got a second one. They offer almond, macadamia, and oat milk! Unfortunately they were out of macadamia milk, but the oat milk sufficed. Great service, cute decor. They are this super quaint little coffee shop in old town with some delicious healthy and most important.. FRESH breakfast options. One of my all time favorites being their avocado toast and house yogurt that has a delicious blend of citrus flavors. I am currently on the Whole 30 and was still able to order my favorite Avocado Toast.. hold the toast and it was just as delicious! The avocado is so great, with light chili flakes and spritz of lemon zest and the right amount of salt to make your mouth water! Quaint spot for coffee! Ordered a cap and a blueberry muffin. The cap was a bit acidic, but presentation and creamy texture were appreciated. Service could've been friendlier or more helpful- there were, I'd say, two men preparing coffees and manning the register, with at least one more walking in and out of the kitchen/back. Chocolates and teas wrapped in heavy paper with colorful ink were on display and for sale. Space is very tight indoors; However, this cafe shares courtyard space with other shops, and it also has a couple of tables pour in the front, plus cute public benches situated close by. I was most impressed with the blueberry muffin: the cake had the texture and flavors of butter pound cake, which I love, and the blueberries were gigantic!
