I enjoy trying new coffee shops in Scottsdale since I moved here, I have never experienced such horrible service at Berdena's out of every place I've tried. The cashier had such a horrible attitude and started our experience here off on the wrong foot. My friend visiting asked "How sweet is the Iced Caramel Latte?", her response was "It's caramel." Thanks for the input. We finally get our drinks and I had to throw it away it tasted like I was drinking straight whole milk. The place looked so nice online, and it was, but I would never recommend this place and will not be coming back. read more

Super cute cafe in middle of Old Town. It's quite cozy- meaning seating is limited indoors. And for my comfort level, I opted to sit outside with Covid still circulating and customers not wearing masks indoors. The pastry selection is lovely- from sweet and decadent to "healthy" breakfast cookies there is something for everyone. The breakfast menu looks good too, but we were on a time crunch and reviews mention that hot items From the kitchen tend to take a bit longer. It also fills up quickly as Berdena's is a small shop, so come here early if you wish to claim a spot. Soon after we got up from our table, another party quickly went over to claim our table. My partner had espresso while I ordered a cold brew. Both drinks were solid and what we needed. The coffee wasn't bitter or too acidic, which was good. In addition to coffee, they have teas and other drinks that are in the fridge, like kombucha. They also have a small menu of pastries and breakfast sandwiches. So this review is long overdue. I ended up at Berdena's AFTER trying to visit another coffee shop near by. That other shop's customer service was awful. Felt as if I wasn't welcomed - anywho I didn't waste time trying to find another location to grab some coffee before taking off on my flight back to Houston. This is where Berdena's comes into play. Just searching shops near me & they were less than a few miles away. Pulled up, plenty of parking & it's a lovely location & scene as you walk in. Immediately I was welcomed & greeted by Kendrick. We spoke briefly & his welcome embraced me. He didn't know about the experience I just had but his welcome made me appreciate him more than he knew. Needless to say great customer service, an awesome vibe in the shop, coffee & bites were amazing. Just what I needed before my flight. I was able to get a little work down also & the view from inside the shop out to the courtyard was peaceful. Love the touches right out front. 5 star all the way around! read more

Interesting coffee shop with a lot of quirks! On this Sunday morning, it was super busy, and if you intend to sit inside or outside it' a hit or miss. There are 3 inside tables, few counter seats and couple of outside tables. So it is definitely not a place to come hang out at. It is pretty small, and even the restrooms are not part of the shop but instead are located at the business next door! Coffees are good, hands down. Pastries are bellow average, and the chocolate croissant I had is on par with the grocery store quality that is a few days old! Service is well bellow average, which is my biggest gripe. I ordered coffee, latte and muffin for dine-in. Coffee came in a mug, latte came in to-go cup, and muffin was completely missed. I reminded the staff about the muffin and was told that they forgot about it, and as it was the last muffin they gave it to someone else who came after! I got the croissant instead and was refunded the cost of it, but the croissant was blah! Coffee refills are free so when I asked for a refill the person pouring it spilled the coffee all around: accidents do happen, more often if you are careless! Lastly I came here in par as it is listed on Yelp as dog friendly. I called to verify but there was nobody answering the phone. After I got situated with my two furry friends I noticed a sign no pets allowed. I asked about it, and was told that dogs are welcome! So which one is it? We placed an order for a "Surprise Bag" on 11/26 for pick up on 11/27 & received a confirmation. I showed up @ the scheduled time only to learn from the lady that was cleaning that they were closed & there no pastries!!! What a "Surprise"!!! We've left voicemail messages & sent messages thru their website & no one has bothered to even reply out of courtesy! They made 2 mistakes; 1 - the order should NOT have been accepted online & 2 - why couldn't they post on their website that they would be closed on Thanksgiving? We wouldn't have placed the order & driven so far just to pick it up & waste gas & my time?! And now they don't even bother to reply!! 3 day later & we NEVER heard from Berdena's Scottsdale!!! Love the coffee here! I came here to study with a friend, and I got the cardamom rose iced coffee. There's also a selection of pastries if you're craving some food! The interior of the cafe is nice and clean, and the baristas are friendly. I do want to note, however, that there's limited seating -- the shop itself is small and only has several tables (outside and inside) and some bar seating. The seats fill up quickly over the weekend, and it can be hard to find a place to sit down. Overall, I would come back to try some of the pastries and sample some of their other drinks. I think this is a nice spot to sit down and catch up with a friend. The availability of wifi allows you to do some studying, but the shop can be loud at busier times and it can be difficult to find seating. read more

Another beautiful coffee shop in the valley. It's not very big, and has a relatively minimalist decor, with beautiful plants hanging. Some seating inside and a few tables outside as well, but I imagine seating may be an issue during times when it's busier. The food looked really good, especially the avocado toast and the cinnamon rolls (I did not have food and do not know if their food tastes as good as it looks). After coming to Berdena's for years because of the great coffee and vibe, unfortunately my last few visits have compelled me to write a review. I feel like the place is going down hill, not because of the breakfast or vibe but because the last few months the employees have made it more and more difficult for me to keep returning. I think today was the final straw for me. I usually order a cold brew with extra almond milk anywhere I go and here they have you put in the almond milk yourself after the cold brew is ready which is not the norm at most coffee shops but whatever that doesn't bother me. However, they fill the coffee to the brim with no room to add your own milk. So i started pouring the milk myself which was not enough anyways, the coffee started spilling over the cup. Employees reluctantly cleaned it up after i apologized for the mess with no acknowledgement of the apology. Then i went to grab the cup to put the lid on, and more spilled unfortunately and got eyes rolling back behind their head and snarky comment about how napkins are available to clean it up. It's not the first time this type of attitude has happened and I get it it's probably chaotic and they have a lot on their plate because of how busy it is. However, it's no excuse to treat customers like this. Why am I paying extra for almond milk when i can't even put a centimeter of it into my drink myself? Also isn't it your job to make the coffee how it's ordered? Sorry, i don't think I'll be back. read more

Such a good local coffee shop- the only thing I wish both of their locations were a bit bigger it is very difficult to find an empty table and there is not much room to sit. Glad we stumbled upon this place in old Town. Coffees were very fresh, light and clean tasting. Syrups were not too sweet or overly strong. Food was excellent.. breakfast burrito was the perfect size and combination of avacado, egg, bacon, black beans, corn and a very good salsa. I was a fan! I would wait 20 minutes in line and look at all the beautiful people getting their six dollar coffees and I became one of them. They had one vegetarian option, the cookie, which will prompt me to go home, and actually re-create. The straw.... The one that broke the camels back was when a person in front of me was chitchatting with the employee, ( that obnoxious over flirt about nothing/zilch/nunca/nada and when they were done, grabbed his coffee and cut right in front of me while I was standing at the counter. I mean intrusively in front of me. I made a hand of motion as in "what the fuck" type of motion and the bf/fella flirter didn't react. I knew that moment i wasn't a pretty boy and i was not a person in his eyes. I was simply a $20 bill and a $4 tip (cash not credit) .... I was.... One of "those people". Look. I take those starbucks surveys where it asks " did your barista make an effort to know you "? Mine here at pretentious palace ( and i like pretentious places) did NOT make an effort to know us or acknowledge our coffee loving existence! We came here with a large group (10 girls) after a long morning walk. They were PACKED! We waited in line for a bit but the line moved pretty fast, which was nice. Some of the girls ordered food while most just ordered drinks. My chai latte was pretty good. The reason this place gets 5 stars is because their breakfast sandwich and breakfast burrito were AMAZING!!! What an incredibly good find out here in Scottsdale. I am not sure if it was the Synesso machine the barista was operating out of or the freshly roasted beans but what an amazing cup of espresso. I ordered a cappuccino and the Cardamom rose latte because I was told that the syrup was made in-house. The cappuccino had such a rich crema to it and the espresso itself was sweet and delicate. I wish I had asked what beans they used. The Cardamom Rose Latte was definitely a lot sweeter than I expected but the shot of espresso dampens it quite a bit.
